B.o.B Says Debut Album Has Some 'Surprising Factors'

B.o.B has forged quite a path for himself during his brief time in the music industry. The promising young MC is set to release his debut album, B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray, on Tuesday (April 27) after a year that included announcements of alleged retirements, label squabbling and two name changes (Bobby Ray and then back again to B.o.B). Now B.o.B finds himself with the #2 record in the country and his collaboration with Paramore's Hayley Williams following close behind. B.o.B said that he and his fans are finally ready for his full-length effort.

"Getting to this point and finally getting an album out — I know I speak on behalf of all my fans — it's been a very long wait and I feel like everybody's finally ready for it," he explained. "Even though I've had a lot of music in the past, I feel like now it's timing, because timing plays a huge role in the success of things — especially me, and getting here really took a lot of online presence, a lot of performing. It took a lot of shows.

"It took a lot of building relationships," he continued. "Even with the fans, you have to build the relationship with the fans. Someone may just like one song, but that's just one song. You really have got to build and grow. My music has a wide variety to it, so you can't just understand me with one song."

B.o.B joked that it would probably take the average listener 10 songs to get to know him — his album is eclectic and not short on guest appearances, featuring T.I., Lupe Fiasco, Rivers Cuomo of Weezer and Eminem.

"I think now people know what they should expect, and even still, playing the album for people they're still like, 'Wow, I didn't know it was going to be that,' " he said of fans' reactions. "I think the fans know to expect decent music. I don't think anybody's expectations will be low for it, but I feel like it will definitely have some surprising factors to it."

Nicole Scherzinger And Derek Hough 'Love Each Other,' Julianne Hough Says

'Dancing With the Stars' alum (and Derek's sis) says the duo are 'basically the same person, but a guy and a girl.'

"Dancing With the Stars" front-runners Derek Hough and Nicole Scherzinger probably owe a lot of that great dancing to their undeniable chemistry. Hough's sister, former "DWTS" dancer Julianne Hough, said the pair are just compatible offscreen.

"They love each other! They laugh and have fun," she dished to MTV News. "They're basically like the same person, but a guy and a girl. They have so much fun together, and she's great."

Derek and Nicole have moved on from the romance rumors that were plaguing them early in the season. The Pussycat Dolls frontwoman, who dates race car driver Lewis Hamilton, shrugged off the reports when MTV News asked her about them recently.

"I don't even know where they get these stories sometimes," she said. She even tweeted about the situation: "Been reading the net & seeing the craziest stories ... Derek is like a little brother 2 me. Everyone knows how in luv & committed I am 2 Lewis!"

With Derek out of the picture, is there anyone else on the show Nicole has a crush on? "I have a softness in my heart for Buzz [Aldrin]. I kind of have a crush on him," she said about the astronaut, who was later voted off the show. "I haven't [told him], but I just show it to him when I hug. He's just the sweetest guy, and his wife is the cutest thing ever, people. I don't know if people at home see it, but whenever Buzz is onstage or anywhere near her, she's always so excited."

Do you think Derek and Nicole can win "DWTS"? Tell us in the comments!

Mixtape Preview: T.I., Rick Ross, Young Jeezy, More

We give you a rundown of what's dropping soon, in Mixtape Daily.
By Shaheem Reid

Rick Ross

The Game just released his Red Room mixtape and, true to his word, the project with DJ Skee "feels like a little more than a mixtape." There's a plethora of original material such as "Shake" and "Real Gangstas" to go with the traditional freestyles such as "Ha Ha" (featuring Nipsey Hussle) and the epic "400 Bars."

Game continues the tradition of top-flank MCs such Jim Jones and Fabolous who have earned their stripes but still get funky with their fans and serve up free material. Here at Mixtape Daily, we know with all these MCs dropping product so frequently, it may be difficult to keep track. So here's a quick guide to four of our most anticipated tapes that are due soon.

Next Wave of Greatness (In Particular Order)

Artist: Young Jeezy

Mixtape: Trap or Die 2: By Any Means Necessary

Collaborator: DJ Don Cannon

What We Know: The Snowman takes it back to his instant classic and one of the hottest mixtapes of all time, Trap or Die. The sequel has been talked about since last year and there's still no official word why Jeezy chose to go with Cannon over DJ Drama — who was previously announced for this tape and hosted the original — or an exact release date. We do know Cannon, who has produced some of Young's most memorable album cuts, changed the initial direction of the tape by dropping off a batch of new beats in the last month or so.

What We Expect: You better be damn sure certain of what you're doing if you decide to revisit one of the all-time great mixtapes. Why do you think Young has waited so many years? He knows part two has to be just as excellent or surpass its big brother. Still, Jeezy has given us no reason to doubt him — he's one of the most consistent MCs of the past decade and always has a master plan (and a few surprises) in his back pocket.

Artist: T.I.

Mixtape: F--- a Mixtape

Collaborators: DJs Drama and MLK

What We Know: With his endorsement deals, clothing line, Hollywood career and multiplatinum success, some may forget (or just be late on the bandwagon and not know) that Tip started earning his name as the King of the South with his ferocious delivery on the In These Streets mixtape series. He re-ignited his career on the underground and introduced his crew at the same time. Tip's latest effort is mostly original material, but DJ Drama is trying to get him to assault a few instrumentals that the fans love. There will also be high-powered guest spots by the likes of Lil Wayne and others.

What We Expect: Indignant, brazen but a lyrically proficient Tip. He doesn't have to worry about pleasing his large pop fanbase with radio smashes — he can just go in show off. That makes the King very dangerous on this tape.

Artist: Jadakiss

Mixtape: The Champ Is Here (Part 3)

Collaborators: The Evil Genius Green Lantern and DJ Drama

What We Know: 'Kiss couldn't have collaborated with a better duo. Green's mixing is unpararrelled — he picks obscure tracks, produces original sundscapes and keeps scratching alive as well. He's mastered the art of making tapes and has the experience. Drama was 2009 "DJ of the Year" so you already know his pedigree. He brings the best out of the stars in his Gangsta Grillz series of tapes. Whether it's an R&B singer or an acclaimed MC, they know they cannot come to Mr. Thanksgiving with anything less than their A+ game.

What We Expect: Sucker MCs will be on their backs counting the lights — 'Kiss should have another knockout in round three. Like Green told us, there's no album coming in a few months to distract 'Kiss — the tape has been his primary focus and should be more exciting than a pay-per-view prize fight.

Artist: Rick Ross

Mixtape: TBD

Collaborator: DJ Infamous

What We Know: The tape just went into production.

What We Expect: Guaranteed dope. Right now Ross is even better on the mic than he was last year when he dropped his best album, Deeper Than Rap. "Ricky Rose-Zayy" has been on a amazing tear with freestyles over "Rude Boy," "Window Seat" and "Hello Good Morning." The last was so hot, Diddy had to make his freestyle an official part of his single. Simply put, Ross' rekindled love affair with rap is translating into supreme work.

'Hills' Buzz Moment #2: Heidi And Lauren Reconcile

Although they would never be as close as they once were, Heidi and Lauren buried the hatchet on the show.

When you think of "The Hills," the two names that probably pop in your head first are Lauren Conrad and Heidi Montag, as the two girls were inseparable from day one. They were roommates, party pals and each other's closest confidants and remained friends even after Heidi's party-girl ways threatened Lauren's career goals.

But everything changed for the dynamic duo when a certain someone named Spencer Pratt came into the picture. "He's a sucky person," LC once tearfully told her former pal.

When Heidi moved out to live with Spencer, fans of the show figured the two could remain friends despite their very different feelings on Pratt. But once the rumors — presumably started by Spencer — started swirling that LC made a sex tape with former boyfriend Jason Wahler, the friendship fizzled.

"You know why I'm mad at you. You know what you did," LC told Heidi, who seemed to not fully understand why the pair had grown so far apart.

The two remained on bad terms despite Heidi's attempts at a reconciliation, which included the statement, "I really am sorry for all that you've been through." LC's reaction? "I want to forgive you and I want to forget you."

"The only thing really missing in my life is you and I don't think that's gonna change anytime," Heidi explained to LC.

However, fans were shocked when Heidi showed up unexpectedly at LC's party, facilitating a tearful reunion. "My favorite stories are my stories with you," Heidi cried to Lauren. "My favorite memories are my memories with you."

Although the two never got as close as they once were, Lauren managed to put aside her feelings for Spencer to attend her former best friend's wedding. LC told Heidi, "I just realized regardless of everything that happened I'm just — I really am happy for you."

LC later spoke to MTV News about why she made a cameo at the wedding. "We don't really have a relationship," she said. "We're friendly with each other. I don't have a problem with her, but, you know, we're not great friends."

What are some of your favorite "Hills" moments? Let us know in the comments below!

"The Hills: Final Season" premieres Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET/PT followed by "The City" at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.

Miranda Cosgrove sings about boys and crushes on her debut album, Sparks Fly, out Tuesday (April 27). The "iCarly" star admitted that the album's lead single, "Kissin' U," is about a real-life love interest.

"The song's about your first love or thinking you're falling in love, so it's just kind of a really happy, sweet song," she told MTV News. "I did write it about a guy, and I'm afraid he might have heard it and he's going to figure it out!"

Although the unnamed guy was also the inspiration for a few other tracks, luckily for him, Cosgrove's favorite song on Sparks Fly, "Disgusting," is not. "I love songs that are a little tongue-in-cheek," she said of the song.

The project is a follow-up to Cosgrove's five-song EP, About You Now, which found her working with a number of hitmakers, including Claude Kelly, Dr. Luke and the Matrix. With that in mind, MTV News asked what fans can expect of her sound now. "Pretty much all the songs are pop/rock," Cosgrove said. "I got to co-write on a lot of the songs. I was trying to find my musical style. I've been playing guitar since I was little."

As for the album's title, Cosgrove said it came from the first verse of "Kissin' U": "The reason I ended up naming it Sparks Fly [is because] those are the first two words you hear when you pop my album in."

Bret Michaels' Type Of Brain Hemorrhage Is Survivable

Posted: 26 Apr 2010 12:09 AM PDT

Neurologist explains that first few days after a subarachnoid hemorrhage are critical.

The next few days will be critical to Bret Michaels' potential recovery from a brain hemorrhage he suffered late Thursday, according to one of the nation's leading stroke experts.

"He had a subarachnoid hemorrhage, which is not the most common type of stroke," said Dr. Joseph Broderick, a member of the American Academy of Neurology and chair of the University of Cincinnati Neurology Department.

Broderick, a specialist in the treatment of acute stroke and the genetics of hemorrhagic stroke, is not treating Michaels and does not have first-hand knowledge of the singer's case, but said that based on the information made public so far, the case is very serious but could be survivable. (An unnamed source told People that Michaels suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage, or bleeding at the base of the skull, and on Friday, a rep for the singer confirmed that People's report was correct.)

"This kind only happens in about 5 percent of cases, where you have bleeding from the artery at the base of the brain, a kind of explosion of blood around the base of the brain, and it can be very serious," Broderick told MTV News, noting that 30 percent of patients die from this type of injury within the first month. However, many are able to survive and live relatively normal lives afterwards.

He said the major risk factors for the kind of stroke that Michaels suffered are smoking and drug use, specifically cocaine, but it is unclear whether Michael is or was a heavy cigarette smoker or cocaine user.

As of press time, Michaels, 47, remains in an intensive care unit under 24-hour surveillance, and further testing was planned to find the source of the bleeding, according to his website.

The singer is reportedly suffering from slurred speech, blurred vision and dizziness as a result of the hemorrhage, all normal side effects of the traumatic incident according to Broderick. "These are pretty common things you'd see after this type of stroke and it can get worse," he said about the blurry vision and speech difficulty. "The arteries can go into spasm after four or five days and get worse over the next week or two."

Though those spasms can cause the other, more typical type of stroke, an ischemic one where blood supply to the brain is interrupted by a blocked artery, Broderick said doctors should have a better sense of Michaels' chance of recovery over the next two weeks or so. "Patients typically die within the first couple of days or a week from this kind of stroke," he said.

Michaels, who was diagnosed with diabetes as a child, had an emergency appendectomy earlier this month, an event he called a "wake-up call to be a little bit more diligent on keeping control of my health" in a blog post. Broderick said it's not clear if the diabetes could have any relationship to the hemorrhage, but lingering inflammation from the appendectomy could have links to the brain injury.

In 10-15 percent of cases, doctors are unable to find the source of the bleeding in cases such as Michaels', but Broderick said if they do, then cutting it off is relatively straightforward. "If it's an aneurysm, they cook it or put a clip on it where it comes off the blood vessel and isolate it," he said. "If you can't find the cause, then you wait for the effects to wear off and you don't really do anything but observe."

Eve Talks Interscope Split

'They promised me the machine,' she tells Vibe of why she left longtime recording home.

Eve's "Tambourine" stopped shaking awhile ago when her album Here I Am was shelved indefinitely by Interscope. The Philly rapper confirmed a rift with her longtime recording home when she tweeted back in January that she had left the label.

Now, she's opening up about her reasons in an interview with Vibe. The former first lady of the Ruff Ryders alleged she didn't get the proper backing from Interscope for what would have been her next LP.

"They promised me the machine," she said. "The machine is basically the rollout. It's 'Yo, when ["Flirt"] comes out, we'll give you this, we'll give you that.' And that's what made me mad. It'd be different if we didn't have a meeting where people promised me sh--. If they were just like, 'Oh, we're going to put the album out and see what happens,' that would be one thing.

"But they were like, 'No, we're making sure this happens. It's coming out on this date,' " she continued. "It was concrete. But it's all good. Everything happens how it's supposed to, when it's supposed to."

For the stalled Here I Am, Eve recorded with Swizz Beatz, Sean Paul and Robin Thicke. Back in 2007, she gushed about working with the blue-eyed crooner.

"The Robin song is called 'Fantasy,' " she told MTV News. "My lyrics are basically talking about ladies — how when guys see you in a club but [aren't] ready to talk to you. Like a guy who sees you in a club and he wants to do all these things to you. ... You're his fantasy. It's real. A guy might be looking out from across the club like, 'Oh my God, I love her,' but you might not even know he's looking at you."

Currently, Eve is unsigned and at work on her next album.

Last month, Lady Gaga took to her Twitter account to express her gratitude for a nine-minute "Happy Birthday" message created by her fans all around the world.

"I've never cried so hard in 24 years, from pure joy and unconditional love," she wrote of the YouTube video, conceived and edited by Gaga superfan Ryan James Yezak. "Tears still streaming."

Well, on Monday (April 26) she turned on the waterworks yet again, this time for a fan-made video called "Project Gaga 2010," which featured her minions — the so-called "Little Monsters" — thanking Gaga "for giving us a voice."

"So many tears, [you] make me whole Little Monsters," Gaga tweeted. "Without [you], I would have no voice. Thank you."

The clip, posted on Sunday, is the largest fan-made Gaga tribute video to date, featuring 268 Little Monsters from around the world (the U.S., U.K., Germany, New Zealand, Greece, Brazil and Italy, to name just a few spots) decked out in their Gaga-iest getups, holding up personalized signs thanking Gaga for inspiring them, providing them with the courage to be unique and, most of all, giving them a voice.

"We have come here today to thank you, Mother Monster, for giving all of us a voice," a voice-over at the beginning of the video states. "We thank you and salute you ... for you have made us all free bitches, baby. Hail the Queen of Monsters."

So far, the video has been viewed more than 35,000 times and early Monday morning the creators of the clip took to their Twitter account to thank Gaga once again — and share the love with the Little Monsters who helped make the project possible in the first place.

"We did this video all together, like true monsters do," they wrote. "We must have all had an amazing Mother Monster, Lady Gaga."

Before Bret Michaels was admitted to the intensive care unit after suffering a major brain hemorrhage late Thursday, he was a leading contender on the new season of "Celebrity Apprentice." His co-stars on Donald Trump's reality competition reached out to the Poison frontman on Monday (April 26) hoping for the best during his medical emergency.

"I am hoping for a speedy recovery," fellow '80s musical superstar Cyndi Lauper said, according to E! Online. "He is a strong-willed person, so I am feeling very positive that he will pull through like a champion. My thoughts are with his family."

While Australian chef Curtis Stone had it out for Bret during a previous "Celebrity Apprentice" challenge that involved a country-star makeover, he had nothing but kind words for the rocker. "He's a nice man, and I've got great wishes for him," Stone told E!.

WWE Diva Maria Kanellis is also pulling for the "Rock of Love" star. "All you can do is hope and pray for him and his family," she said. "He's a strong man, so I hope he recovers very quickly."

As for "Celebrity Apprentice" boss Donald Trump, he told TMZ that Michaels is in "big, big trouble and the prognosis is not great."

"He turns out to be an amazing competitor, and ultimately, that is the thing that could save his life," Trump said.

The latest update from Bret's camp on BretMichaels.com said the singer's condition hadn't changed: "As of now Bret remains in ICU under 24 hour surveillance. Further testing this week will help locate the source of the bleeding."

Gang Starr's DJ Premier 'Salutes' Guru During Two-Hour Radio Show

Posted: 26 Apr 2010 12:23 AM PDT

DJ also questions Solar's claims about Guru's health during final weeks.
By Jayson Rodriguez

Gang Starr's DJ Premier took to the SiriusXM satellite airwaves over the weekend to salute Guru, his late partner in Gang Starr, during a lively tribute show that featured calls from original members of the group and Guru's nephew, and plenty of memories of the late rap star.

Preemo, who released a statement about Guru's passing late last week, was upbeat throughout his weekly two-hour radio show.

The producer shared his experience of visiting Guru in the hospital, recalling how taken aback he was at the sight of his sick friend. The anecdote, like many of the statements throughout the night, was coated with underhanded shots at Solar, the controversial figure who worked with Guru in recent years and took care of him in the rapper's last months.

"When I saw him, it really f---ed me up," Premier said during the show. "When I saw him, it was so ill to see — because from what I was hearing about him waking up and tweeting, there's no way [he could have done that]. He looked so gone.

"And on top of that, if you with him and you love him, why did his nails look longer than a ruler? And he had an afro. I've taken care of people in the hospital: you can wash their hair, clean their nails off, or clean their feet. His feet were swollen, his toenails were really disgusting, so because of that it really f---ed me up. I went in there and took the logo of my shirt off, rubbed it against his whole body, and then I told him a message from me about how much I loved him. We were for life and we'll always be for life. Then I kissed him on the face to let him know that I'm gonna miss him, because he looked like he was already gone."

Gang Starr, as a group, hadn't released a project together since 2003's The Ownerz. Premier and Guru reportedly were estranged at the time of the rapper's death. In Guru's last testament, a "farewell" letter released via Solar , the rapper allegedly directed some harsh words at his "former DJ."

Premier, however, declined to address the comments in the statement he released last week, saying he would cherish his memories of their time together and "never remove him from my heart and soul."

Premier praised Guru many times during the show, which he stressed was a "salute" to Guru's life and musical contributions and not a tribute to his untimely passing.

Premier also said that Guru's body had been cremated last week and the ashes returned to his father in Massachusetts.

Guru's nephew, Justin Elam Ruff, who first alerted fans to the divide between Solar and the Elam family via an emotional YouTube message, called in to thank fans for their support.

Big Suge, who appeared on Gang Starr records throughout the years, told the story about the group's formation. Originally, Suge wanted him and Guru, who then called himself "Keithy E.," to go by the name Gangster. But Guru suggested the two, along with Suge's DJ brother, tweak the name to have a positive slant — and thus the Gang Starr Foundation was born.

What do you think about DJ Premier's tribute to Guru? Let us know in the comments!
