Justin Bieber loves his fans. He's pretty open about his adoration for the people that made him the star he is today, launching him from YouTube sensation to household name and chart-topping megastar. And the 16-year-old is particularly appreciative of their use of a certain social-networking site to keep him on top.

"They make me a trending topic on Twitter every day," Bieber told MTV News. "It's pretty incredible. My fans have made me a trending topic every day. I don't think there's been a day in the past month that I haven't. So, it's pretty incredible.

"I love Twitter," Bieber added. He finds tweeting the perfect way to share his comings and goings and to communicate directly with a few lucky girls whenever possible. "For sure I use it for being able to interact with my fans as well as promote stuff."

So, how does Bieber decide which followers to reply to or retweet? "It just depends. It's kind of, like, it's random," he said. "It's not really anyone specifically. It's just kind of a random thing."

But whoever he chooses, Bieber says they are always surprised. "They're like, 'I never thought you were gonna respond.' And I say, 'You thought wrong.' "

"Glee" is returning to television sets on Tuesday (April 13) with promises of tributes to Madonna and Lady Gaga lined up for this season. And the "Glee" club promised us that when fans tune into the show for this new crop of episodes, anything is possible — there will be lots of hot hook-ups and tons of interesting and unexpected musical numbers.

"Everybody's relationships when we come back are just really different," Dianna Agron said of the characters' love lives. "Different than what you expect."

Co-star Heather Morris added that there will be some shake-ups in the worlds of love and friendship on the show. "We create relationships ... [There are] a lot more relationships," she said. "We start to like a lot more people. I can say that."

And while this season the show will pay homage to both Lady Gaga and Madonna, Mark Salling admitted he had a favorite, telling MTV News he really loved the way one Madonna classic turned out. "We did 'Like a Prayer' in the Madonna episode," he shared. "It's my favorite number in that episode."

There are a number of guest stars lined up including Neil Patrick Harris, with Jennifer Lopez rumored to stop by this season as well. Dijon Talton summed up the ensuing craziness best: "You're gonna see people you never thought hook up, hook up. Songs you never thought you'd hear, you're gonna hear. Dance moves you never thought you'd see [you'll see]. It's like 'Glee' 3.0."

E-40 Says Two New Independent Albums 'Complement Each Other'

'I had a whole bunch of songs,' MC says of the decision to record two CDs, in Mixtape Daily.

Don't Sleep: Necessary Notables

Independent Albums: Revenue Retrievin': Day Shift and Revenue Retrievin': Night Shift

Headliner: E-40

Key Cameos: "Can't Stop the Boss" (featuring Too $hort, Snoop Dogg and Jazze Pha), "Power Up" (featuring San Quinn and Keak Da Sneak), "Whip It Up" (featuring Gucci Mane and YV), "Outta Control" (featuring Dem Hoodstarz and Mistah F.A.B.)

Essential Info: About the only one in the game who can sign the independent-minded rap legend E-40 is his son, producer Droop-E. 40 kept the scrilla all in the fam by inking a deal with Droop's Heavy on the Grind Entertainment, which is distributed through EMI. 40 also made two LPs while paying for the studio time of one.

The Bay Area Ambassador was originally supposed to put out one album at the end of 2009 but decided it wasn't financially sound to drop it during the fourth quarter.

"At first I had a whole bunch of songs," 40 explained. "I was just gonna do Revenue Retrievin'. Then I was like, 'I'mma go ahead and do two of these.' I didn't want to come out in the fourth quarter, because it was just co-op pricing and positioning [in record stores]. All that stuff is double and triple as far as to buy into programs with retailers and have your stuff on the shelf. Because you competing with Christmas songs and all type of stuff during that time — it just doesn't add up. It seems like when you do come out in the fourth quarter sometimes, once that fourth quarter is over, the album is over."

Since he had a delay in his album release, 40 kept recording and came up with an extra body of work.

"I ain't new to this two-CD thing," he added. "I did a double CD, The Element of Surprise, in 1998. That album went gold. That double CD was all contained into one package. This one is different because it's two separate CDs with two separate bar codes and they both complement each other: the Day Shift and the Night Shift. I took them [album cover photos] with the same poses, different locations. I did different poses with different outfits on. The Day Shift songs are things that would unfold during the daytime. Night Shift is what would unfold during the nighttime. So, that's how I put that whole thing together. I did both all on one album budget. We got a whole lot of team players."

40 is not stopping there; he said he's looking to release another LP possibly by year's end.

Donnis Premieres 'Gone' Video Featuring Just Blaze And Estelle

Kidz in the Hall's Double-O is also in the clip, which Donnis says is 'not the traditional hip-hop video.'

It's not quite freshman hazing, but when upstart MC Donnis is joined at a party by the likes of Just Blaze, Estelle and Kidz in the Hall's Double-O for his debut video for "Gone," things get out of hand fast. The trio livened things up so much that a groggy Donnis wakes up in the clip (presumably the next morning) and tries to remember what happened the night before through a series of "Memento"-like flashbacks.

"The video is basically a party gone backwards," the rapper explained on the set of the BBGun-directed project. "People haven't seen that in a long time. It has a lot of twists to it. It's not the traditional hip-hop video. We tried to do things a traditional hip-hop video wouldn't do. The club [scene] is a little bit in the vein of hip-hop, but the house party is very different from what you usually see."

In the opening scenes of the video, Donnis is seen picking up his tie from the previous night and reaching for his sunglasses, which are damaged. As he's walking across the bedroom floor, flashes of last night's proceedings appear onscreen: a female friend writing her phone number on his hand, the rapper bumping into a club-goer and Donnis' face through a peephole as he's knocking on an apartment door.

As the music cues and he attempts to catch a cab back home, a clock pops up onscreen running backward, and Donnis begins reaching for the previous night's memories. The bump caused his glasses to break. The girl's apartment he just left was in the cab with him and another female the night before, who were, uh, just as friendly with each other as they were with him.

The video is a montage of different club scenes that help to explain Donnis' night before the end of the clip, when Just Blaze does his best Dame Dash impersonation by pouring champagne everywhere and then Estelle opens the door to welcome the rapper to her house party.

The track "Gone," released by A-Trak's Fool's Gold Records, was produced by Needlz and appears on Donnis' mixtape, last year's Diary of an ATL Brave, and also on his upcoming mixtape Fashionably Late.

Donnis is featured in the April issue of XXL as a part of the Freshmen 10 class and is working on his Atlantic Records debut, Past Visions of the Future.

"Glee" fans, or "Gleeks" as they like to call themselves, took over the Grove in Los Angeles over the weekend for a free outdoor advanced screening of Tuesday's (April 13) season premiere. Fans seemed just as excited about the stars in attendance as they were for the twists and turns in the plot of the new episode.

"It was awesome, 'cause it's finally back," one fan told MTV News on Saturday.

"I thought it was really good — I thought it was really shocking," another fan added. Another fan enjoyed the music the most. "The songs! I can't wait to hear more!" she exclaimed.

One fan simply shouted, "I'm a huge fan of 'Glee'! I love them! I love them! I love 'Glee'! " Another fan voiced their shock over some of the plot twists, saying, "The relationships that I thought were pretty solid from last season are just kind of thrown out the window!"

While the consensus was that the episode was "awesome," one fan added, " 'Glee' never fails to surprise me! I'm always so surprised to see it every Tuesday! I'm there!"

According to some of the cast at the event, life is about to get more complicated for the Glee club and their pals. "You're gonna see people you never thought would hook up, hook up. Songs you never thought you'd hear, you're gonna hear. Dance moves you never thought you'd see [you'll see]. It's like 'Glee' 3.0," Dijon Talton said.

Rick Ross has announced June 29 as the release date for his new LP, Teflon Don. The rap heavyweight released the first official single for the set on Monday (April 12), "Super High." The record is produced by beat legend Clark Kent and features Ross' Def Jam labelmate Ne-Yo.

The drums are smothered in '70s soul funk, and Ne-Yo brings his Grammy-winning vocals to serenade the ladies and make the fellas jealous as he brags about his spoils. "All these cars, all these stars all around me/ ... To the sky, that's where you'll find me."

"We doing it big, it's going down at 11," Ross raps. "I'm doing it big pulling up in the 911/ ... Baby girl, it's now or never/ Got the condo on the beach, so our storms we shall weather/ F--- the marketing, look at what I'm accomplishing/ I'm beating n---as by margins bigger than Fran Tarkenton."

Later, Ne-Yo gets his own verse: "Women of a caliber you only see in magazines and calendars/ And I'm sitting with Miss October, because my birthday's in October."

On Monday afternoon, during a conference call with Def Jam, DJ Clark Kent called in to salute Ross. Production team the Remedy co-produced "Super High" with Kent.

"I wanted to congratulate Rick Ross," Kent said. "I said, 'Please listen to this song. It's not for anybody else. It's for you.' I said, 'This is for you. Don't put none of your friends, no other artists on it. This is made for you.' I wanna say thank you for f---in' with it. What you did to the song, I wanna say thank you."

Ross has been on a rampage as of late, with highly touted verses on remixes by Diddy ("Angels"), Waka Flocka Flame ("O Let's Do It") and Erykah Badu (the unofficial "Window Seat" remix).

Last year, Ross explained his Teflon Don album title to MTV News: "You gotta understand, I feel like I overcame so many things. Not only in music, but in my everyday life — being a young black man, being an entrepreneur, being a father. I learned a lot of things. I'm turning right around, putting it back into music. It's still a lot of things I deal with. Still a lot of negativity. That's what it is, and that's why I feel the title of my next studio album is so appropriate."

On Monday afternoon, Ross announced that he has rejoined Jay-Z in the studio for the album. "Jay-Z, he's on Teflon Don," Ross said. "I'mma just leave it right there. It's magic." Jay previously appeared on Trilla's "Maybach Music."

Besides Hov, Ross revealed that his new friend Sean Combs is working on the project as well. "Diddy is producing on the album," Ross said. "One of my best memories is when Diddy took me to [his studio] Daddy's House and let me record in the same booth Big used."

Ross said recording in such a historic place gave him even more motivation and inspiration for the lyrical precision on the album.

Drake's 'Over' Video Shows Struggle Between 'My Past Life And This New Life'

No more waiting; the video for Drake's "Over" premiered on Vevo Monday morning (April 12).

The clip starts off with Drake, dressed in white, sitting in a room on a bed, reflecting on his life these days. Images of explosions and time-lapsed cityscapes are projected on him and the wall of the room. From there, he launches into a heavy performance.

"This is my first video," Drake said on the set of "Over" in early March, though he's made clips for "Successful," "Best I Ever Had" and some of his guest stints. "I've shot a lot of videos before, but this is my first attempt to establish myself as Drake the artist. Shooting the other videos I've done has been great. I really don't care what other people think about them, they were great experiences for me. I've learned a lot from them. Today, I'm shooting with somebody I really look up to and respect. I'm shooting with Anthony Mandler.

"We talked colors, we talked epic, emotion-evoking visuals," he added. "The story is actually interesting. The song is so aggressive, and it's sort of a love story in the video. It has a lot to do with the album [Thank Me Later]. The album is about finding love, feeling, 'Have I sold my soul?' as far as, 'Will I ever be able to gain the trust of a woman? Will I only be able to be around the dark, evil women? Will I ever find that pure love?' Those elements are in the video. I look strong, I feel great, my knee's feeling great. I'm jumping around, doing all kinds of stuff."

Toward the end of the video, it looks like Drake has to choose between two beautiful women. One, played by Roc Nation singer Rita Ora, appears to be a more wholesome girl, while the other lady looks more dangerous as she dances provocatively in the background.

"It takes the song to another place," Drake said of the video last week on the opening night of his Away From Home Tour. "It offers up a whole different look for the song. The song — to a lot of people — is ignorant, it's club. This video is what I was really thinking about. The song is like a bad dream — but it's not a bad dream, it's not a terrible dream. It's a little evil. The video really reflects that. It's a struggle between the purities of my past life and what this new life has to offer. Even in the video, you see me looking back and forth between the two and deciding. At the end of the video I don't necessarily make a decision, but when you get the album, you'll see what choice I make."

'Jersey Shore' Brings Seaside Heights A Fiscal Fist-Pump

Posted: 12 Apr 2010 09:01 AM PDT

'We can't even calculate the economic benefit,' local business exec says.
By Eric Ditzian

Seaside Heights, New Jersey, has beaches not heating up until after Memorial Day weekend begins.

All that has changed since the emergence of "Jersey Shore," MTV's hit reality show about a group of tanned and gelled kids partying it up in the Heights.

"Ever since it aired in the beginning of December, the phones have been ringing earlier and more often," Maria Maruca, executive director of the Seaside Heights Business Improvement District, told MTV News. "Now that the show is coming back, we can't even calculate the economic benefit."

That's right, Snooki, the Situation and the rest of the "Jersey Shore" cast are headed back to Seaside Heights for part of season two, and the owners of hotels, restaurants, bars and other businesses in Seaside Heights couldn't be happier. Filming for the first season flew mostly under the radar on a national level, but the town benefitted greatly in terms of hotel stays and catering for the show's cast and crew. Now that the show's a hit, Maruca said Seaside Heights has been busy over the winter and is positioned for an epic summer.

"There's the curiosity factor," she said. "Celebrities draw crowds. That's going to give us an edge that we didn't have before. The exposure that the show brought to Seaside Heights — when every late-night host is talking about Snooki, when Leonardo DiCaprio is talking about the show — we could never have afforded that type of media. This is more than we could ever have asked for."

Maruca hastened to add that the town remains weather-dependent and that sunny skies are hugely important to its financial bottom line. And there are, of course, those who feel the increased exposure comes with negative costs stemming from what some feel are unflattering impressions of both Italian-Americans and Seaside Heights.

"There's always people who see the glass of half empty," Maruca said. "The show isn't about Seaside Heights; the show is about eight individuals. It just happened to be filmed in Seaside Heights. And when you look at Seaside Heights as a backdrop, our beaches look spectacular; our boardwalk, our amusements look great."

An unexpected tourist destination has become the "Jersey Shore" house itself, with folks snapping pictures in front of what Seaside Heights business owners have come to call "the most famous garage door in America." And then there are the bars and clubs, like Karma and Beachcomber Bar and Grill, that were featured on the show and which stand to do big business when the summer season kicks off. Maruca didn't have exact figures for the increase in business over the winter or for what's expected in the coming months, but expectations are running high.

"The anticipation for the summer season has been heightened all around, from the tourism business to the business community," he said. "To see the buzz and the activity is beyond exciting."

Conan O'Brien's Fans Weigh In On TBS Move

'I'll watch him anywhere,' one loyal Coco fan tells MTV News.

In just under a year, Conan O'Brien has gone from the host of late-night TV's most venerated institution to a guy attempting to launch a new show on a basic-cable channel that only recently got into the late-night game. It's quite a turnaround for the floppy-haired comedian, and it remains to be seen if his move to TBS leads to a resurgence or irrelevance.

Only time ... and ratings ... and talent bookings ... and continued pop-culture relevance ... and any number of other factors will tell. For now, all we can do is follow Conan's live theatrical comedy tour, read his tweets and wonder what might be.

Joining MTV News in such speculation are some of Conan's fans, who were roaming Times Square after the TBS news broke and who shared their thoughts on the move with us.

"I don't really know what a TBS is," deadpanned Kenna Udemba, neatly encapsulating Team Coco's biggest problem as they try to attract eyeballs for the November launch of the new show. "I never really heard of it. I don't think I'll be watching it."

Others, however, have vowed to seek out O'Brien wherever and whenever he pops up on the boob tube. "I will totally watch Conan on TBS," Jierra Clark declared. "I'll watch him anywhere. He was always my favorite. I think he's hilarious, and I miss him."

Adam Francique seconded that all-for-Coco-and-Coco-for-all sentiment. "I think he had a specific audience, not just the NBC audience," he said. "I think his crew is going to go straight from NBC to TBS."

And once there, viewers will find a channel that's strived to brand itself as a destination for comedy, from its syndicated offerings like "Family Guy" and "The Office" to the original show "Tyler Perry's House of Payne" to its burgeoning late-night lineup of Conan at 11 p.m. and "Lopez Tonight" at midnight.

"I think it's a good double-header," Jessica Dubé said of the O'Brien/Lopez pairing. "I've seen some of George Lopez's comedy stuff on Comedy Central, and he's hilarious too."

So what will Conan's new show be called? No decision has been made, but some of Conan's fans had some suggestions.

" 'Conan O'Back,' " Francique suggested.

" 'Where in the World Was Conan O'Brien,' " Clark offered.

" 'The Artist Formerly Known as Conan,' " Udemba proposed.

Justin Bieber chills with Drake and Ludacris and he's even gotten a shout-out from Lil Wayne — how does he feel about being embraced by the hip-hop community?

"I like hop-hop a lot. I'm really glad they've taken a liking to me," he told MTV News recently. "Having Luda [on my song 'Baby'] and having Lil Wayne give me shout me out on UStream and, like, you know — it's cool."

He added that unlike many of his contemporaries, including pop stars Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers, he didn't need the House of Mouse to get ahead in the industry. "I think it's because I didn't go through the Disney route," he explained. "I didn't go corny, but, like, at the same time I've been cool and collected."

And while one of his musical icons got his start on "The Mickey Mouse Club," Bieber still looks up to Justin Timberlake and his mentor, Usher. "Well, basically I look at people like Usher and Justin Timberlake and how they went from being a child star to blowing up and doing what they're doing now," he said. "I look up and see what they do and see that's what I want to do ... and things that I want to do that's different and things that I wanna do that's working for them."

And although he's working for Usher these days, he admitted he wouldn't pass up the chance to work with Wayne. "I would love to work with him in the future, but nothing so far," he explained, adding that despite all the hip-hop in his life he's actually got a lot of friends who are strictly pop.

"I mean, I just hang out with whoever. I'm also friends with Selena Gomez. I hang out with everyone," he said, adding any rumors of a swagger coach have been greatly exaggerated. "I mean, it's just a joke. It's just something we made up. ... I don't know; I'm just myself."
