The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive

Holla at the champs — your boys have finally decided to get it in on Twitter, so shout us out at @shaheemreid and @mongosladenyc. Let's have dialogue and check for exclusives. Big up to Wiz Khalifa's army, the Taylor Gang, who have been hitting us up about the mixtape Kush and Orange Juice by @RealWizKhalifa. We got something all the Taylors will be interested in real soon.

Now, down to business — we recently brought you clarified word that Lil Wayne appears on Drake's June 15 LP Thank Me Later via the track "Miss Me." But there's more Wayne and Drake in the can. Drizzy sings on a remix of Wayne's No Ceilings jam "I'm Single." Drake was so enamored with the record, he wanted to get on the hook. That version is nestled in the Young Money vaults.

"I love that song," Drake told us earlier this week. "I love that song. 40 produced that record for Wayne. I did that a while ago. I love that song. It's one of those songs I wish was my song. I tried to slither my way on that record. I called Tez like, 'Tez, let me get on that hook.' There's a version with me on it. I don't know if it's gonna get out there. Music is someone else's creation. Once it's done, it's hard to say I wanna be a part of it. But me and Wayne, I get excited when Wayne wants to be on one of my songs. Musically we share that. We like doing songs together. I don't think it's a bad thing when we do songs together. ... So there's definitely a version with me on it. But that song is amazing on its own."

As for "Miss Me," Drake said it's "straightforward."

"It's a pretty straightforward [song]," Drake said. "It's a song about being away from what you love and hoping that when you're gone, doing you, somebody out there misses you. It goes for Wayne in his situation and it goes for me in my situation, 'cause I'm on the road for I don't how long right now."

The video for the version of "I"m Single" that appears on No Ceilings debuts this Sunday on MTV2's "Sucker Free Sunday" countdown and on MTV Jams as the Jam of the Week.

"The thing with Wayne, if you don't get a chance to see how hard he worked on the record and the wit and pizazz he had with it, he wants to give you that same feeling the first time you hear it," said DJ Scoob Doo, who directed the video. "Which he does audio-wise, but him performing it for you in the studio is really what it's about, as far as this video."

Justin Bieber Recalls Hanging In The Oval Office With President Obama

'No one really gets to go in there,' pop star tells MTV News of his once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

In his short career, Justin Bieber has already performed for President Obama twice. He first took the stage in the nation's capital in December, when he performed along with mentor Usher for "Christmas in Washington." And just last week Bieber took part in the annual Easter Egg Roll.

Surprisingly, Bieber is pretty laid-back about the whole experience.

"Basically, we went to Washington. We did the thing for the president," he told MTV News, adding that he called Obama "Mr. President."

While Bieber is Canadian, he was just as honored as any American would be to perform at the White House. "It was great," Bieber said. "[Obama] was really cool, really nice, and I was just happy to be there." As it turned out, Obama's daughters, Sasha and Malia, really love the 16-year-old pop star. "We met them, took pictures with them, took pictures with the first lady," Bieber recalled.

While he has it down now, Obama didn't always know the correct pronunciation of Bieber's last name. "The first time I met him was a couple months back," Bieber said. "And when he introduced me, he said, 'Justin Bye-ber.' " Though, Bieber wasn't really bothered: "Whatever."

As cool as it is to perform in D.C., Bieber used his celebrity status to do one more thing not many people get a chance to do. "I got to hang out with him in the Oval Office, which is pretty crazy, because no one really gets to go in there," he said. "But it was pretty incredible. I got pictures with him."

What would you say to Obama if you got the chance to meet him? Let us know in the comments below!

Katie Stevens And Andrew Garcia Sent Home On 'American Idol'

Despite doubling up on the eliminations thanks to Michael Lynche's save last week, there were no major upsets on Wednesday night's (April 14) "American Idol," as bottom-three regulars Andrew Garcia and Katie Stevens were sent into "AI" purgatory until this summer's tour. It was a surprisingly dry-eyed goodbye, as the two underperforming singers appeared resigned to their fate as "Idol" footnotes.

The eliminations came after a season-high 34 million votes were cast and, thankfully, the end came quickly for Andrew Garcia. Host Ryan Seacrest brought him out alongside Casey James and Aaron Kelly near the top of the show, and rather than putting him through the usual torture of waiting nearly 55 minutes to learn his fate, Seacrest abruptly said, "Andrew, it's the end of the road. I'm sorry. America has voted. It's the last chance tonight on 'Idol.' "

That meant James and Kelly advanced, while Garcia — who wowed the judges early on with his oft-cited cover of former judge Paula Abdul's "Straight Up" but never again brought that kind of thunder — was done in by his Velveeta take on Elvis' "Hound Dog." He went out singing James Morrison's "You Give Me Something" from the semifinals.

"I appreciate everything," the often-emotional Garcia said. "I'm glad I'm here. I'm glad I've been through what I've been through. You guys let me experience something that I've never experienced."

The second to go was teen Katie Stevens, whose bluesy, brassy "Baby What Do You Want Me to Do" landed her in the bottom three for the third and final time after Simon Cowell called her performance annoying, shrieky and too loud. Stevens said she'd tell her friends about the amazing people she met and the unbelievable experience she had on the show. Trying to fight back tears, she reprised her cover of the Beatles' "Let It Be," her voice cracking at times.

Joining Aaron and Casey in safety were Lee Dewyze, Crystal Bowersox (who tootled a little ditty on her harmonica in celebration), Siobhan Magnus and "Teflon" Tim Urban, who again escaped elimination and was sent to safety as Lynche and Stevens were left awaiting their fate near show's end.

After serving as this week's mentor, season-eight runner-up Adam Lambert showed the kids how it's done with a smoke-and-lasers new-wave blowout of his hit "Whataya Want From Me." Also performing were season-seven finalist Brooke White and "If I Can Dream" web star — and Miley Cyrus' ex — Justin Gaston, who teamed up for a schmaltzy cover of, you guessed it, "If I Can Dream."

The obligatory group lip-synch included an extra cheesy, show-tuney medley of "Burning Love," "Teddy Bear," "Return to Sender" and "Viva Las Vegas" that would have had even jumpsuit-wearing fat Elvis waddling for the exits.

Next week's theme is "inspirational songs," and the shows will coincide with the "Idol Gives Back" charity event. It has not yet been announced if producers will forego an elimination during the fundraiser, as they did in its inaugural year in 2007; Michael Johns was sent home during the 2008 event.

Among the acts pitching in next week are Jordin Sparks, Carrie Underwood, the Black Eyed Peas, Annie Lennox and Jeff Beck.

Were you surprised Andrew and Katie were sent home? Let us know in the comments below!

When Taxes Strike Celebs: Method Man, Willie Nelson And Other Victims

Posted: 15 Apr 2010 03:52 AM PDT

Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry and Ron Isley have also suffered the consequences of unpaid taxes.
By Kyle Anderson

April 15 is a feared day for many, as it marks the deadline for filing your annual income taxes to the Internal Revenue Service. (If this is news to you, feel free to finish reading this later while you scramble to find your W2.)

Paying taxes as a rock star can be difficult, as you usually have dozens of different income streams, spend most of your time on the road and can't often keep track of your own payroll (or, you know, what month it is). Sometimes it helps to move to a tax-free foreign country, like David Bowie (who moved to Switzerland), the Rolling Stones (France) and Cat Stevens (Brazil).

Though it seems like you could avoid the burden forever, the IRS tends to catch up with everybody. When that happens, they're either prosecuted (like Method Man, who was arrested and charged with tax evasion based on the $33,000 he owed to Uncle Sam) or else you have to come up with a pretty inventive way to come up with the cash.

Take country-music icon Willie Nelson, who through either ignorance or unwillingness never bothered to pay his taxes over his hugely successful career. When the IRS caught up with him in 1997, they handed him a bill for $16.7 million. Unable to pay the government, Nelson quickly released the double album The IRS Tapes: Who'll Buy My Memories? and sold off most of his possessions. He managed to pay it off after settling for an undisclosed amount, and luckily many of the items auctioned off were purchased by friends of his, so he was able to recover most everything.

Nelson was perhaps taking a cue from Jerry Lee Lewis, who in 1984 was face-to-face with a prison term for the $560,000 he owed in unpaid taxes. In order to avoid hard time, Lewis did what any desperate rock star would do: He set up a phone number that allowed callers to hear the Killer tell stories from his childhood for the price of $2.75 per minute. It was lucrative enough to get him out of a jam.

While Lewis managed to avoid doing time, rock legend Chuck Berry wasn't so lucky. In 1979, the government decided that the man who invented rock and roll owed them $200,000 in unpaid taxes. It was the third time the government had told him to pay up, so Berry pleaded guilty to tax evasion, spent four months in jail and put forth 1,000 hours of community service.

That was a walk in the park compared to Ron Isley, who thought that declaring bankruptcy would allow him to sidestep doing time. Not so, as the founder of the Isley Brothers spent 37 months behind bars in a federal prison in Terre Haute, Indiana, for tax evasion. Even then, he might have gotten off easy, as the maximum sentence he could have faced was 26 years.

How do celebs always get themselves in a bind with the taxman? Did we miss any rock-star tax stories? Let us know in the comments below!

Shyne continued to release new music Wednesday (April 14) with his third new set of bars in as many days. On Monday, it was "Messiah." On Tuesday, he dropped his vocals on Rihanna's "Rude Boy." Now comes an unofficial remix of Alicia Keys' "Un-Thinkable (I'm Ready)."

Besides spitting game to a woman, he throws a jab at old rival 50 Cent. More than five years ago, 50 and Shyne traded disses around the time Shyne's Godfather Buried Alive was released, when Shyne was still behind bars. "I need a couple million, f--- 50 cents," he spits on the new track.

As for his wooing on "Un-Thinkable," the Brooklyn slugger raps, "When we first met, I was an outlaw/ Never pretended to be anything but a roller from the streets/ Saying I should change, Ma, I gotta eat/ Ain't gon' be no peace till the blood get a piece."

Shyne was sentenced to 10 years in prison for two counts of assault as well as reckless endangerment and gun possession in a 1999 shooting and was released late last year. He is working on his new album for Def Jam. The music he put out this week has been directed at the streets and the ladies.

"You say you want a rude boy, huh?/ Please/ Let the shotta know," he raps on the "Rude Boy" remix. "This penitentiary pipe will have you singing opera notes/ Lock and load, where you wanna go? ... / This is rock and roll, with them choppers, though/ Tell junior, fall back now that daddy's home."

Scoob Scorsese is getting ready to debut his biggest movie yet. DJ Scoob Doo has spun records at parties and clubs, made mixtapes and stepped out as Lil Wayne's cinematographer in the DVD reality series "The Nino Brown Story." Now he's taking his next step: video director. Scoob helmed the video for Lil Wayne's "I'm Single" from the No Ceilings mixtape, and it officially debuts Sunday on MTV2's "Sucker Free Sunday Countdown" and MTV Jams.

"The thing with Wayne, if you don't get a chance to see how hard he worked on the record, and the wit and pizzazz he had with it, he wants to give you that same feeling the first time you hear it," Scoob told MTV News. "Which he does audio-wise, but him performing it for you in the studio is what really it's about as far as this video."

In the clip for "I'm Single," we see Wayne play and perform the song for the first time.

"I was there, Mack Maine was there," Scoob says. "Mally G was there. This is the first time he's playing it. It's history. When you hear a song for the first time, you always remember where you was when you heard it. Even if the cameras wasn't there to capture it, that's exactly what it would be. That's the great thing about the video, it's authentic. It's your front seat. Enjoy your seat!"

The short also has a storyline element.

"[Wayne's girl was made that] he didn't make it home in time," Scoob explained of the plot. "He stayed out all night. That's the idea I got with the song. It brought me back to watching the film 'A Thin Line Between Love and Hate.' Me growing up watching Martin [Lawrence], it was epic, it was a funny movie. I loved the cinematography in it. [Writing the script for the video], that was me being a fan of that movie and good music and putting it together."

The video also stars models Natasha and Tammy Torres (from Wayne's "Mrs. Officer" video).

"Tammy Torres is the mistress," Scoob detailed. "She's the reason Wayne didn't make it home — the reason why he's single for the night. Natasha is the one who has heartache. She's scorned to the point where she turns crazy and deranged. You don't wanna cross that thin line."

Scoob said people shouldn't be surprised to see him in the director chair. It's something he's been pursuing for quite some time, he's just taking the opportunity now.

"It's not something I would call a transition," he said. "This is something I've been doing for a while. I'm excited that we're making a big deal out of it because I've been working hard. I didn't have to change my format of what I've been doing. The people that know me, they are so excited right now. This is exactly what they've been campaigning and promoting for years."

The clip is one of many that Wayne filmed before he began his prison sentence on weapons charges last month.

Scoob has "The Nino Brown Story Part III" coming up, as well as the Birdman's "The Godfather" DVD — there's a video for Birdman's "Bigger Than Life" that Scoob directed in the can as well.

Scoob has "The Nino Brown Story Part III" coming up (available from his Web site, DJScoobDoo.com), as well as the Birdman's "The Godfather" DVD — there's a video for Birdman's "Bigger Than Life" that Scoob directed in the can as well.

Don't miss Lil Wayne's "I'm Single" video, premiering Sunday on MTV2's "Sucker Free" and MTV Jams! "Sucker Free" airs at 12 p.m. ET.

There's an old saying that you can't go home again. On Wednesday night (April 14), however, Adam Lambert did exactly that — and left a worldwide audience welcoming him back with open arms.

"Adam is the King!" read a sign held in the air by an "American Idol" audience member, moments before the season-eight runner-up took the stage in the newest role of his career: music icon. Appearing as a mentor on Tuesday's episode, Lambert reminded the "AI" folks why he's a fan favorite.

"There's someone on the stage they're excited about," Ryan Seacrest beamed as he introduced Lambert, who then took over the show. Performing his single "Whataya Want From Me," Lambert was bathed in green light and smoke, like something out of an early '80s new-wave video. It was an appropriate setting, since the song feels like a hit from the heyday of Depeche Mode and New Order.

"Yeah, it's plain to see/ That baby you're beautiful and it's nothing wrong with you," Lambert sang onstage. "It's me, I'm a freak/ But thanks for lovin' me, 'cause you're doing it perfectly."

Wearing a suit, skinny tie and his signature guy-liner, Lambert gave an emotional performance. When he hit the high note at the end of the song, it nearly seemed like he was on the verge of tears.

"Now that's a performance," Seacrest marveled as he stepped onstage after the final note. "Wow!"

"I brought lasers!" the playful Lambert remarked about his retro stage lighting. "I wanted to do something a little different."

With the crowd still buzzing about his show-stopping performance, Lambert went on to say that "Idol" is the perfect training ground for a musical career. "We worked so hard on this show to give everybody a surprise every week," he explained. "Thanks to 'American Idol,' because it prepared me to make it in the real world. I owe 'American Idol' everything."

The Situation, DJ Pauly D and the rest of the "Jersey Shore" guys recently wrapped an Interview photo shoot in which they hobnobbed with Leo DiCaprio's lady Bar Refaeli. Not to be outdone, the "Jersey Shore" gals hooked up with New York socialite Tinsley Mortimer and etiquette expert Lizzie Post for a spread in the May issue of Harper's Bazaar.

Going in for a charm-school makeover, Snooki, Sammi and JWoww ditched their flesh-revealing duds in one black-and-white photo for elegant gowns from designers like Marchesa and J. Mendel. Other pics have the women attempting to improve their posture, getting schooled in the art of thank-you notes and doing their best to learn table manners.

On that last subject, JWoww remained unimpressed. "I know a couple things about manners. I just don't use them," she told the magazine. Of her breast implants, she said: "I'd do it every year if I could."

When it comes to her appearance, one thing Snooki does every day is show off her signature poof — that swoop of hair that rises high over her sub-5-foot-tall head and has become an indelible part of pop culture. "It was a teen guidette thing, and when everyone grew out of it, I just kept it," she said. "I'm launching the Snookit," she said of a Bumpit-style accessory that will enable anyone to rock a poof.

Everyone, of course, can't rise to her levels of post-"Shore" fame. "I can't go out without being noticed," she said. "I still go to Dunkin' Donuts ... [but] oh my God, it's hard work."

What do you think of the "Jersey Shore" ladies' makeovers? Sound off in the comments below!

Season two of "Jersey Shore" premieres Thursday, July 29, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. Be there!

Eminem Announces New Album Recovery For June 22

'The music on Recovery came out very different from Relapse, and I think it deserves its own title,' Em says.

When Eminem says "soon," he means it. On Wednesday morning (April 14), Em tweeted that there was no Relapse 2, and he promised last month that big news was coming soon. Well, the MC has already announced a new album and release date.

"I had originally planned for Relapse 2 to come out last year," Eminem said in a statement. "But as I kept recording and working with new producers, the idea of a sequel to Relapse started to make less and less sense to me, and I wanted to make a completely new album. The music on Recovery came out very different from Relapse, and I think it deserves its own title."

The new album — which features production from DJ Khalil, Just Blaze, Jim Jonsin and Boi-1da, among others — will drop June 22.

Last week, Blaze told MTV News that he'd been working on new songs for Eminem, saying of the album: "It's getting there, but we still got a lot of work." Though he was sworn to secrecy, Blaze did reveal that "a lot of good music is being made. ... He's really back spitting. The wordplay is crazy, the metaphors are crazy. He's really back on his game. He had his ups, he had his downs, he's back way, way, way up. This is definitely going to be up there with the best of his albums, for sure, for sure. The fact that he's branched out working with a lot of different people now, collaborating in a lot of different ways that he never has before, I think he's going to surprise a lot of people."

Last year, Em told fans Relapse 2 was "extremely close to being finished. It just depends on how many songs I wanna put on it."

The project was pushed back until this year, and he took to Twitter on Wednesday to tell the world he had changed his mind. "There is no Relapse 2," he wrote. It was the first tweet from the rapper since March 29, when he promised, "Don't worry. Some big news is coming. Soon."

Snoop Dogg, Kid Cudi Join Forces For 'That Tree' Video

Dressed like Cheech and Chong, the rappers get goofy in their ode to evergreens.
By James Montgomery

Great minds think alike. So, when Snoop Dogg and Kid Cudi — two men who share an affinity for, shall we say, herbal remedies — get together on a track called "That Tree," it's a pretty safe bet neither of them were thinking about conifers. If they were thinking at all.

"Tree," a new cut off the reissue of Snoop's Malice N Wonderland album, isn't about forestry at all. It's a classic stoner jam, a light 'n breezy ode to the sticky green stuff, featuring a hazy, loping beat courtesy of Diplo. The accompanying just-released video is appropriately laconic and bedheaded.

Directed by Erick Peyton, the clip for "That Tree" is basically a four-minute stoner comedy, featuring brightly colored, slightly goofy set pieces like dancing two-dimensional trees, women dressed as lumberjacks and a big, shiny sun. You know, the kind of stuff that looks like it was lifted from some smoked-out dude's dreams. It's a sly interpretation, made even more impressive when you realize that Snoop and Cudi are actually dressed like Cheech and Chong, circa "Up in Smoke" (no word on if their van is made entirely of weed). And, much like all great stoner comedies, there's (sort of) a plotline involving the accidental ingestion of pot, a misplaced vehicle and a deer. Or something like that. These things tend to make more sense when you're baked.

The video is also amazing because it's the kind of thing you usually don't see from Snoop: It's goofy and good-natured. In the past, even when he was being positively ridiculous (like, for example, his VHS-ified video for "Sensual Seduction"), there was a snarl to his performances, a bit of the braggadocio. In "Trees," he seems content to just grin and watch the world drift by. And he looks like he's having a blast doing it.

And, really, who can blame him? Never underestimate the power of the trees, after all.
