T.I. is heating up the promotion for his new street release, F--- a Mixtape. The King of the South and company sent an exclusive trailer to Mixtape Daily on Friday (April 16). The trailer features quick shots of T.I. performing, then transitions into footage of a cassette melting as we hear a brand-new record from the release, "Back to the Trap."

"Welcome back to the trap, and back to the grind," he raps on the chorus of the record. "I'm back on my hustle with an immaculate shine/ Welcome back to the trap, we back to the streets/ Homey, right after I release, see me right back with the heat/ Welcome back to the trap, and back to the grind/ I'm back on my hustle with an immaculate shine/ Welcome back to the trap/ I'm back on my sh--/ This the sh-- that you missin', you'll be right back on my d---/ Welcome back to the trap."

This week, Tip not only announced the title of his forthcoming official LP, King Uncaged (due August 24), but he also revealed his mixtape was coming soon. DJ Drama said the streets should be excited about the special edition of Gangsta Grillz.

"I think this is going to be exciting for the streets — it's a lot of sh-- that is '24s'-type Tip," Drama said, referring to the track from T.I.'s 2003 Trap Muzik LP. "Tip is like a f---ing superstar right now. He makes a lot of big records with a lot of worldly feels — but they gonna love this in Zone One."

Tip recently spoke to Rolling Stone about King Uncaged.

"Some songs talk about my time in prison — how I was affected by that, the way I've grown from that, things I see now that I may have not seen then," he said. "Sometimes I talk about love, some songs I talk about life, some songs I talk about me being the sh-- on every level."

Crystal Bowersox Almost Quit 'American Idol,' Ryan Seacrest Confirms

'Idol' front-runner admits to having 'moments of doubt' about the competition.
By Eric Ditzian

Did Crystal Bowersox really almost quit "American Idol"? The Web was buzzing Friday morning (April 16) after a TMZ story suggested the dreadlocked front-runner had decided to bail on the reality show but host Ryan Seacrest had convinced her to change her mind.

Now Seacrest has confirmed that anonymous report to E! Online and lent insight into exactly what went down. Two weeks ago, following an airing of "Idol," Bowersox had decided the show was too much of an emotional drain and that she missed her young son. Seacrest found Bowersox in the parking lot and got her to reconsider.

"The greatest thing I ever did was make enough money so I could buy my mom a house," he recalled telling her. "You can buy your mom a house."

Seemingly confirming the reports as well, Bowersox posted the following comment on the official "Idol" Facebook page: "We all have moments of doubt. As much as I miss my kid, the big picture is this: I'm doing this for him and my fans. I'm having the time of my life!"

Bowersox has undoubtedly been feeling the strain of life on "Idol." Last month, the show switched the order of the men's and women's performances because Bowersox had been rushed to the hospital with an undisclosed illness. Later, during a post-performance conversation with the judges, she referred to the fact that she has been dealing with personal issues.

Despite these difficulties, Bowersox has established herself as the season's true front-runner. During Tuesday's Elvis Presley-themed show, Bowersox's rendition of "Saved" had Randy Jackson comparing her to the second coming of Bonnie Raitt and Simon Cowell saying, "You chose something that suited you and put your own slant on it and didn't fall into the karaoke trap, which I think a lot of people are going to do tonight."

What do you think about Crystal Bowersox almost quitting the show? Let us know in the comments below!

'Green Day Rocks Broadway: American Idiot' Goes Behind The Scenes Of Musical

MTV gives you a peek at rehearsal footage and interviews with the cast.

The Broadway version of Green Day's "American Idiot" doesn't officially open until April 20, but Friday night (April 16), MTV gave fans an exclusive look into the making of the punk-rock opera when it aired "Green Day Rocks Broadway: American Idiot."

The show detailed the long journey from the recording of the Idiot album in 2003 to rehearsals at New York's St. James Theatre and, at every step of the way, the pressure to deliver the goods was off the charts.

"Right around 2003, I think, as a band, we wanted to have a monumental moment. We wanted to make a concept album, we knew that," Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong explained. "Politically, when we were writing it, American Idiot was trying to make sense out of a big mess. We were trying to find something to believe in. It's about people becoming lost and trying to find their way. And I think that's been going through our songs since 1988."

Armstrong said that, to a man, Green Day always believed that Idiot should end up on the stage, but they didn't think they'd ever find the right team to help that transition. Until they met "Spring Awakening" director Michael Mayer, who took on the project and guided it through an initial run at the Berkeley Repertory Theater in California last year.

"This album is our baby. To see it get put in the hands of other people, it's great. We've always thought that somehow there should be some sort of stage version, because that's what was going on in our heads," Armstrong said. "[And] Michael really stuck to the heart of the album, which are the characters, like Jesus of Suburbia. But he also created new characters by using different, little subliminal things that we put in special packaging. Like the character Tunny, it's a brand-new character. Will, it's a brand-new character, too."

Through rehearsal footage and interviews, we met the Broadway cast, which features "Spring Awakening" star John Gallagher Jr. as Johnny (the so-called "Jesus of Suburbia"), Michael Esper as Will, Stark Sands as Tunny, Tony Vincent as St. Jimmy and Rebecca Naomi as Whatsername. It's a big, diverse collection of talent, but they all had one thing in common: a mutual love for the American Idiot album.

"I can remember just driving around in my mother's minivan, and just cranking that record as loud as it would go," Gallagher said. "And really, just feeling understood, and there was this direct line of communication that I felt coming from that record."

"The album is really like a rallying cry for our generation," Mary Faber, who plays Heather, added.

And though some of the characters were created by Mayer, Armstrong said what resonates most to him about the musical — and, what he thinks fans will relate to — is that they're close to his own heart ... and probably yours, too. And, at the end of the day, that's what the stage version of "American Idiot" is really all about.

"Those people remind me of my friends, and they remind me of myself," Armstrong said.

"I guarantee that what's presented onstage someone will absolutely be able to latch onto," Vincent added.

Ke$ha plans to storm the "Saturday Night Live" stage this weekend, and while it's an exciting time for her, the singer has copped to feeling jittery about the high-profile performance.

"It's really nerve-racking," she told MTV News on Thursday during a rehearsal break. "The first time I stood on [the stage], I kinda felt like I was going to throw up in my mouth a little bit, but then I didn't, so that was awesome."

Ke$ha will sing her chart-topping "Tik Tok" and her latest single and video, "Your Love Is My Drug", on "SNL." "Just practicing a few times [now], I'm feeling a little more comfortable," she said of the live performance. "It's definitely an honor."

Asked whether she knew what she might wear, Ke$ha played coy. "I do know! All I have to say is that it might be really awesome," she teased. "Actually, I'm pretty sure it is."

Ryan Phillippe, who stars in the "SNL" sketch-turned-film "MacGruber," will handle the hosting duties the night Ke$ha performs. The singer has her fingers crossed for the chance to star with the actor in a skit. "We bonded. You can say that," she laughed. "I mean, that would be ideal. I hope that happens."

She even had a sketch in mind. "Well, they're top-secret, so I can't tell you," she said. "But one idea was someone recently told me I smell like shrimp in a diaper, so I thought I could do a perfume skit about me with my eau de perfume being a shrimp in a diaper. It's very sensual."

NEW YORKLil Wayne's newest video, for "I'm Single," premieres Sunday at noon ET on MTV Jams and MTV2's "Sucker Free Countdown." The song is one of the cuts featured on Wayne's 2009 mixtape, No Ceilings, and the clip was directed by DJ Scoob Doo.

The video is one of many clips Wayne filmed before heading off to serve a one-year prison sentence at New York's Rikers Island for weapons charges. MTV News hit the streets of Times Square to show fans a sneak peek of the video and see if Wayne's forward thinking will keep his fans satisfied.

"Even though he is incarcerated, he's still making music, he's still out there, he's still got music for his fans, he's putting it out there, and I like it," Deanna Brown said.

"I think this is something different," she added. "Even with other incarcerated rappers, everybody's like, 'Wait till they get out. Wait till they get out.' And they can't wait for that release. This is almost tiding his fans over until he gets out. It makes you even more hungry, like, 'Ahh, if he's doing this while he's incarcerated, I can't wait to see what happens when he gets out.' "

Other fans echoed Brown's sentiments. Jonathan Edmonston said fans will appreciate Wayne's dedication while he's behind bars.

"It will capture the fans' interest," Edmonston said. "And it will just let his fans know that he's there for them, he loves them. I just feel he's reaching out to them."

Christina Applegate knows how to keep a secret: She's quietly been engaged since Valentine's Day to her rocker boyfriend of two years.

The 38-year-old actress got engaged back in February, a rep for the actress confirmed to Us Weekly in a statement, but there's no word yet on when the two will get hitched. It will be the second marriage for both Applegate and her 41-year-old musician boyfriend, Martyn LeNoble.

"The couple, who have been dating for two years, got engaged on February 14, 2010," said a rep for the actress, who is currently in Georgia filming the Farrelly brothers comedy "Hall Pass," which also stars Owen Wilson, Alyssa Milano, Jenna Fischer and Jason Sudeikis. "There is no set date for the wedding at this time."

Applegate divorced first husband, actor Johnathon Schaech, in 2007.

It's the latest in good news for the Emmy-nominated actress, who recently overcame a bout with breast cancer, following a double mastectomy. Applegate co-stars with Drew Barrymore and Justin Long in this summer's "Going the Distance."

"I have a small but mighty support system, and Martyn has really been an incredible part of my life," Applegate told Us last May. "Without him, I don't know if I could've gone through any of it. He came around at a time when there was a lot of loss in my life on many levels, so he's been a really incredible help."

Netherlands-born LeNoble is a founding member along with Perry Farrell of the group Porno for Pyros.

Death Cab For Cutie's Ben Gibbard: A History With The Seattle Mariners

Posted: 16 Apr 2010 04:17 AM PDT

From childhood fandom to playing at Monday's home opener, Gibbard shares his Mariners memories.
By James Montgomery

The tale of Death Cab for Cutie performing at the Seattle Mariners' home opener on Monday is actually an act in three parts, starring avowed baseball nut (and DCFC frontman) Ben Gibbard. It's a story of soaring highs and crushing lows, plus amazing feats of skill. It's such an epic adventure that we figured it would be best if Gibbard told it himself.

Here's the first act, in which our intrepid hero embarrasses himself at a Mariners/ White Sox game in September 2008.

They asked me to throw out the first pitch, and, of course, I said yes. I don't want to toot my own horn, but I have a pretty good arm. I'm not like a 90-mph fastball kind of guy, but I can hit 70 on a radar gun. I hit 70 one time on a radar gun at one of those pitch-and-throw kind of things. ... I have a pretty good arm for somebody who's not a baseball player ... so before the game, I'm down in the catacombs of Safeco Field, and they got a ball girl out there, and I'm throwing curves, I'm throwing sh--ty knucklers, I'm throwing from the full 60-feet-6 inches. ... I'm just smoking it in there.

So I was like, "OK, I'm not going to try and throw it as hard as I can, but I don't want to throw one of those lollipop first pitches." So I go out there, and I'm on a mound, and there's like 30,000 people out there, and also, I hadn't thrown in, like, 10 minutes. ... I'm thinking, "Maybe I'll throw a four-seamer, just throw it right in there." And then I start second-guessing my grips. I'm thinking, "Maybe I'll throw a two-seamer instead." And I threw to [Mariners pitcher] Ryan Rowland-Smith, and I threw it and it was low and outside. It just went to the backstop. ... I felt like such a dumbass. So after, Ryan Rowland-Smith is signing the ball for me, and he's like, "Throwing the heat, huh?" And I was so embarrassed.

And now, the second act, which also took place in 2008 and saw Gibbard redeem himself with a rather amazing act of dexterity:

In the spring of 2008, I went to a Mariners game with my mom. And a foul ball comes into the stands, and I catch it with my hat. I have the video to prove it. I'm not making this up. ... The ball comes into the crowd ... and I'm like, "Uh-oh, look out," and I caught it with my hat. It was amazing. You think of that moment happening every time you go to a game, ever since you were a little kid. So I had our management contact the Mariners, so they could get me the footage, because I know no one would believe me. I have it on my phone to show people, because they will never believe me.

All of that led to up to last Monday, when Gibbard once again set foot on his field of dreams, to perform a medley of baseball-themed hits — John Fogerty's "Centerfield" and a somber version of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" — joined by his Death Cab mates. We're not going to lie to you, there was a lot riding on the performance — and Gibbard was understandably nervous.

I mean, [the Mariners] had been floating this idea of us performing since last year, and I always said I would do it. I've loved the team since I was a little kid. I got [former Mariners slugger] Alvin Davis' autograph when I was, like, 9, when he was on the ferry. This was ingrained in who I am. So, yeah, I was kind of nervous. But we went out there and played, and it was great, man. It was sort of like all the things I like the most, aligning into one. Since it was opening day, it was a big production. There were fireworks, and they had set up a little stage behind home plate. We played, and it was pretty amazing. I would definitely do it again.

So there you go. Ultimate redemption. Dreams coming true. Who said baseball isn't a magical game?

Fans are eager to see Betty White host "Saturday Night Live" on May 8, and now it seems that comedy's most favorite OG will be joined by hip-hop's biggest star: Jay-Z has been tapped as the musical guest for the show's May 8 episode, according to multiple sources.

Both will appear on the Mother's Day episode, which will feature appearances by a number of female "SNL" vets including Tina Fey (who hosted the show last weekend with musical guest Justin Bieber), Amy Poehler, Molly Shannon, Maya Rudolph, Ana Gasteyer and Rachel Dratch.

Jay-Z, who will headline Coachella on Friday night (April 16), has appeared as a musical guest on the show several times before, but this appearance will mark White's first turn as "SNL" host.

"Years ago, I turned it down three times," said White, who's been enjoying a career resurgence thanks to her role in "The Proposal" and her buzzed-about Super Bowl Snickers commercial from earlier this year. "It's so New York, and I'm not New York at all. But my agent said he'd divorce me if I didn't do it, and I love my agent.

"It's lovely, and at my age it's certainly unexpected," she added. "I've got so much energy, it's ridiculous. I love working. My schedule is a feverish one, and I'm used to that."

In an interview with USA Today in March, "SNL" executive producer Lorne Michaels admits he "always wanted" White to host the late-night comedy program. "It took on a groundswell," Michaels says of a Facebook campaign that began in response to White's Super Bowl ad. "It isn't something we would have said no to," but the campaign "validated that — 'Oh, that'd be fun.' ... It was the outpouring of affection from fans, and we feel the same way."

Are you pumped to see Jay-Z on "SNL" again? What song should he perform? What kind of skit could he and Betty White do together? Let us know in the comments below!

'Sky's the limit on this one,' Green Lantern says of The Champ Is Here Part 3.

Jadakiss is enlisting the services of DJ Green Lantern to close out his recent mixtape trilogy with the final installment, The Champ Is Here Part 3. A new name has been brought into the mix as well: DJ Drama, and the project will be a Gangsta Grillz invasion.

Both Green and Dram spoke to MTV News about the project.

"Honestly, everything you could think of in the sense of creatively coming together, mapping out beat selection," Green Lantern said of expectations for the mixtape. "There's original production on it. There's what you would call freestyles, getting on other people's beats. There's some nice guest appearances on this one. It's time to spice things up. Part 3. We didn't really touch the guest appearances to much in the past outside of the Lox ... I think that would be a welcomed gear shift to explore how that would sound. He's ready to go.

"One thing I would say — both times before he was in album-promo mode," Green continued. "So, the things that maybe rushed a mixtape or maybe wanted somebody to hold back a little bit, because they didn't want to cloud an album, is not the case here. He's really going all out. As you hear from the music, sky's the limit on this one. There's no cap like, 'I don't want to make this crazier than the album.' That's not the case in this one."

"When I got the call, it kinda made sense," DJ Drama offered. "Me and Green had been talking for years about doing a project together. When Green brought the idea, it made sense. This being the third tape, this being a classic series, the timing ... it just made perfect sense. I'm just added flavor to it. It was already full of treats. You add me to the mix, who knows what we could expect.

"We probably about 70 percent done. Per Jadakiss, it drops May 1. We know the situations with artists and dates, that's why I say, 'Per Jadakiss' it's droppin' May 1. Drama has brought up the date to me about 36 times so far. He's like, 'You know my situation with these dates, man — I can't have another one.' From everything That I've seen, [Jada] is really, really looking at getting us the music well in advance. There's work in the pre-production side that everywhere from vibing on beats, creating new beats on the spot, I've been doing lately for the thing. ... It's looking like we should be good for May 1 as far as having music well ahead of that."

Green says all parties are looking at routing a mixtape-release tour and there will be videos shot for at least a couple of songs off the tape. We have the first trailer of the mixtape , featuring all three heavyweights in the studio.
