The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive

Cash Money/ Young Money, all one big family. The Birdman recently went out to Rochester Hills, Michigan, to be a surprise guest on Drake's Away From Home Tour. Baby joined Drizzy for "4 My Town (Play Ball)," and after the show Drake shared some downtime with the multimillionaire CEO. Sitting in the Birdman's tour-bus lounge, Drake told us about his recent trip to Jamaica where he shot the video for the Kanye West-produced "Find Your Love," a track on the June 15 LP Thank Me Later.

"We went to Kingston," Drake said. "We went to this 'hood. They call it the 'gully' side. It's bad out there, real bad. They had 'Young Money' sprayed on the gates, 'Drake and Wayne,' 'cause I came to shoot the video out there. I'm talking about you drive by people's homes, they had 'Drake,' 'Young Money,' 'Drake, Welcome Here,' 'Drake We Love You' — crazy sh--, man. It was so crazy. This dude was like, 'Original Weezy tha God! You tha boss! Weezy tha God!' It's crazy. They love us, 'cause we show love out there."

It's April 20 — you know what that means. Some people are celebrating green day, and we're not talking about the rock band. In any event, check out these releases — some are celebrating today's theme and some aren't.

The Streets Is Talking: News and Notes From the Underground

No beef, the G's are getting money. We spoke to Brisco and he told us that his feud with Gucci Mane's Brick Squad is a thing of the past. Brisco took exception to one of Gucci's references to him on the first BurrPrint mixtape and disses flew between Brisc and the Atlanta faction. It's all water under the bridge and now these guys are focused on getting money and making music.

"I talked to Gucci two days ago. Everybody is good. Basically, it's just solidifying the greatness of the artists. Some greats clash at the top. I used that as a steppingstone and we put everything behind us and put us in God's hands. It really wasn't no beef and we didn't want it to lead to more unfortunate situations. I feel like it took real n---as to do it without Al Sharpton and political leaders. It's no beef. ... I'm about to do a record with Waka, Gucci, the whole set."

Brisco's Street Medicine LP is tentatively due in June through a partnership with Poe Boy Entertainment and Cash Money Records. His mixtape OG Kush is out now.

Green Day Moved 'To Tears' By 'American Idiot' Musical

Posted: 20 Apr 2010 03:52 AM PDT

'You just abandon hope of a tissue and let 'em stream,' bassist Mike Dirnt tells MTV News.

Green Day aren't exactly the kind of guys you'd expect to shed tears over anything, but the first time they watched rehearsals for the Broadway musical version of "American Idiot" — opening Tuesday (April 20) at New York's St. James Theatre — they did just that.

"I was watching the actors, and I catch the eye of one of the singers, and he just gives me a little [thumbs-up] sign, and so that gave me the courage to look over at the band," "Idiot" director Michael Mayer told MTV News. "And there were tears in their eyes. I saw that what we were doing was connecting to them on a heart-and-soul level, and it wasn't about commerce and it wasn't about business. ... All of that went away, and I saw that these are just three wonderful men who made these wonderful songs, [and] we were giving it back to them as this sort of wonderful gift. I was blown away, and I thought, 'OK, there is something here.' "

Of course, we had to verify the story with the guys themselves. So when MTV News caught up with them at "Idiot" rehearsals, we asked: Did the musical really bring on the waterworks?

"All of us actually came to tears, because you don't get to see Green Day play live if you're actually in Green Day," bassist Mike Dirnt said. "But to see these voices and the way all the cast were singing, you just abandon hope of a tissue and let 'em stream. ... [We were like,] 'No, that's allergies, man!' "

"Yeah, the first night I wasn't prepared," drummer Tre Cool added. "[But] the second night, I brought a little thing of tissues and I drank two glasses of wine."

And while Green Day eventually were able to get through rehearsals without the aid of Kleenex, they're still emotional, even on the eve of the "Idiot" debut. The show is the culmination of many years' hard work, a journey that began all the way back in 2003, when the band was writing the songs that would become the American Idiot album. The bandmates still can't believe it's finally opening on the Great White Way.

"You know, I think it's something that goes beyond [all that]. It's your wildest dream, but you never actually thought it would happen," frontman Billie Joe Armstrong explained. "And so, when you start to hear the music in that way ... you reminisce about why you wrote the song to begin with. Michael Mayer knew what the intention of the record was, and to see that start to come to life is kind of gripping."

Adam Lambert Picks His 'American Idol' Favorites, Plans Another Visit

'I hope to come back for the finale,' he tells MTV News.

After spending a week as a guest mentor on "American Idol," Adam Lambert learned a few things about this year's crop of contestants. First and foremost, he wasn't all that shocked to see Katie Stevens and Andrew Garcia get the boot after the pair turned in "sleepy" performances.

"You know, I think at this point in the competition, it comes down to 'Do you want to be there, or do you not want to be there?' " Lambert told MTV News on the red carpet of the GLAAD Media Awards on Saturday in Los Angeles. "You've got to step it up, get some caffeine going. They were a little sleepy."

Secondly, he already has a favorite to win the season-nine crown — or, more specifically, four favorites. He also thinks everyone should start packing lasers, like he did for his performance of "Whataya Want From Me" on "Idol."

"There's some amazing voices this year. I think Crystal [Bowersox], Casey [James], Lee [Dewyze] and Michael [Lynche], for me, those four really stand out as authentic, pure, amazing vocals," he said. "But everyone was really sweet and really friendly and really receptive. I had a great time mentoring, and I had a really good time putting on my laser show. I got lasers! I was so excited. I was like a little kid."

And since he had such a great time on the show, Lambert said he hopes he can make another appearance during the season-nine finale. He wanted to show up for this week's "Idol Gives Back" event, but his schedule won't allow it.

"I hope to come back for the finale. Unfortunately, I'm going to be gone for 'Idol Gives Back,' " he said. "I leave this Sunday. I'm going to be in Europe for three weeks, promoting my album. ... It comes out in the U.K. at the end of the month, and I'm so excited to see how it does over there."

What do you think about Adam's "Idol" assessment? Do you want to see him back on the show for the finale? Let us know in the comments below!

Jonas Brothers Tease Future Albums, Solo Plans

'I think it would be cool!' Kevin Jonas says about making his own album after Nick and Joe's side projects.
By Jocelyn Vena

The Jonas Brothers aren't shy about branching out from their sibling trio. Earlier this year, Nick released an album with his side project, Nick Jonas and the Administration. And after teasing that he was working on some solo music, Joe, along with Demi Lovato, released the song "Make a Wave" from the "Oceans" soundtrack.

So does that mean Kevin is the next JoBro to go it alone?

"I don't know about that. Possibly," he told MTV News at Family Day, an annual charity event that raises money for leukemia, cancer and AIDS research. "I think it would be cool."

But that doesn't mean the brothers are going their separate ways. Kevin reiterated what Nick told us back in January: "As the Jonas Brothers, we are continuing to make music."

So even if a Kevin solo album doesn't happen, the guys say they have plenty of new music catalogued for whatever they end up wanting to do next. "We all have been working on lots of music, and ... it could really be for anything," Joe added. "It could be for other artists or it can be for ourselves. ... It's all up in the air. We just love making music, so we just want to be in the studio all the time.

"We've been in the other room talking about [when we might release the next Jonas Brothers album]," he continued. "For us, we have a big year planned out, [and] that's definitely in the works. For us, we have a lot of music coming up [for the "Camp Rock 2" soundtrack and the "JONAS" soundtrack]. That in itself is two different records."

As for those albums, and any future JB albums, Nick said the musical style they go with next is something they will be incredibly proud to release. "It's all music we love, and we're looking forward to playing," he said. "[We're] trying to figure out which fits us best, and then we'll go in that direction."

'Glee' Stars Get Help From Madonna, But What About Adam Lambert?

'I've only heard rumors,' Chris Colfer says of a possible Lambert appearance.

In the "Power of Madonna" episode of "Glee" set to air on Tuesday night (April 20), fans will get more than just remixes of favorite pop tunes. The Material Girl herself praised how Mr. Schuester will use her songs to teach his students a little more about themselves, and possibly change the way they interact with each other.

Jenna Ushkowitz said that her character Tina will use Madge's girl-power pop to clear up her relationship with pal and love interest Artie Abrams (played by Kevin McHale). "Well, definitely in the Madonna episode you'll see [Tina and Artie] interact more, and it's all about women's empowerment," she explained to MTV News at the GLAAD Media Awards in L.A. on Saturday. "And how the boys are degrading and disrespectful. Tina will come back and fight back pretty hard, and then the writers have graciously given us the chance to live out our relationship for a while."

Chris Colfer (who plays Kurt Hummel on the show) didn't shed too much light on the Madonna episode, but did weigh in on the rumors that Adam Lambert may bring his glam-rock voice and style to the show. "He's a sweetheart," he said. "I've only heard rumors, but I've never heard anything discussed with the writers or any of that."

But Colfer was able to speculate a bit on what's next for his openly gay character. "There's lots of good Kurt and Burt [Kurt's father] story lines coming up, and I think next season he's getting a love interest, so that should be interesting, I believe," he said. "They don't tell me anything, but I believe he'll be a student — but that's all I really know."

Do you think Adam Lambert should stop by "Glee?" Tell us in the comments!

'Dancing With The Stars' Recap: Kate Gosselin 'Has No Motivation'

Nicole Scherzinger's 'Pretty Woman' tango, however, earns high praise on 'movie night.'

The drama was upped Monday night on "Dancing With the Stars." Of course, comedy, music and action were in the mix too, given that the theme was "movie night," and the celebs were shimmying and doing the splits to tunes heard in popular films.

Comedian Niecy Nash and Louis Van Amstel, who wanted to come back strong after flatlining on the rumba last week, were up first. The duo performed the jive from "La Bamba," and at a practice before the dance, Nash joked, "I'm looking forward to shaking things I didn't even realize I had." She ended her performance with a big kiss on judge Len Goodman's forehead, but that did nothing to help boost her score. The judges thought the performance lacked the necessary sharpness that should be present at this stage of the game. "You got your personality into that dance, which is great," Goodman said. "There should have been more bounce in your feet. There was plenty of bounce in your bazookas, but we wanted it more in your feet." Still, he thought the approach to her dance was great and an improvement. "On behalf of thick girls everywhere, y'all need to vote for me. I'm tired and I'm hungry. That was a lot," Nash joked. Score: 18 out of 30.

Chad Ochocinco and Cheryl Burke hoped to build on the momentum of last week's touchdown performance, dancing a quickstep to "Jungle Book" track, "Bear Necessities." The judges thought the football player lost the refinement and control that he pulled off the week earlier, saying that the hold and frame were terrible. "It's very unnerving," Carrie Ann Inaba said. "What was lacking most was the body contact." Score: 18.

ESPN reporter Erin Andrews and Maksim Chmerkovskiy took a page from "Pulp Fiction" and channeled their inner John Travolta and Uma Thurman. Goodman said it was a tough routine, though they coped with it really well. "This is your best timing, ever," Bruno Tonioli observed. Score: 22.

Jake Pavelka started his dance with partner Chelsie Hightower with his pants on the ground as an homage to Tom Cruise in "Risky Business." The couple did what the judges thought was an animated and fun cha-cha to Bob Seger's big hit "Old Time Rock and Roll." "You got the guts, so you better enjoy the glory. I loved that dance; the whole package," Inaba said. Score: 23.

Pamela Anderson and Damian Whitewood picked Dolly Parton's "9 to 5" flick and tune for their quickstep and impressed the judges. "Every week you're in character right through the dance. You never lose it," Tonioli said. Inaba suggested that Anderson was so entertaining that she should consider performing on Broadway. "There's something about you that is fascinating to watch," Inaba told her. Score: 21.

Kate Gosselin and Tony Dovolani did the foxtrot to "Don't You Forget About Me" from "The Breakfast Club." Gosselin's partner was frustrated with her leading up to Monday night's show. "Kate has no motivation, and I have to push her every week," Dovolani said. The judges also weren't thrilled. "There is some sort of grace that is developing," Inaba said. "I give you a lot of credit for that. But when I watch you dance, it's kind of like the Charlie Brown teacher. It never becomes a formed sentence or a formed move." Goodman agreed, saying, "It wasn't really a dance, it was a stroll. It had an elegance about it, but you've got to dance out more." They were this week's low scorers, with a 15.

Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger and Derek Hough danced a tango to "Pretty Woman," and collected the night's highest marks from the judges. "Well, Nicole, that for me was your best dance and the best dance of the season so far," Goodman said. Tonioli called them the two players at the top of the game. "The lines were incredible," Inaba said. "You could have taken a snapshot and it would have been art; beautiful." Score: 29.

Olympian Evan Lysacek and his partner Anna Trebunskaya took on the rumba to music from "Armageddon." The judges found their moves sophisticated and Lysacek's hip action fluid. "This had artistry. It had musicality. You got the hip action going. I thought you did a great job, Evan," Goodman said. Score: 27.

B.o.B's 'Airplanes (Part II),' Featuring Eminem And Hayley Williams, Hits The Net

'Since the album is leaking, I want this one to come from ME,' B.o.B tweets about posting song.

There's been much hype surrounding B.o.B's debut album, B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray, which is slated to drop April 27. The album's lead single and surprise hit, "Nothin' on You," featuring Bruno Mars, currently sits at #1 on iTunes' songs chart. But once the album's track listing was released, anticipation began to grow even more, thanks in large part to the Eminem feature on "Airplanes (Part II)."

B.o.B decided to unleash the track Monday afternoon (April 19) via his website, and it lives up expectations. The song features Em spitting another song-stealing verse, rapping hypothetically about what could have been failed opportunities.

"Let's pretend Marshall Mathers never picked up a pen/ Let's pretend things would've been no different/ Pretend he procrastinated, had no motivation, pretend he just made excuses that were so paper thin."

Em continues, listing off scenes from his now-famous narrative of a tortured childhood and his tumultuous relationship with his mother.

"Now pretend they ain't just make him angry with this sh--/ And there was no one he could even aim [at] when he's pissed at/ And his alarm went off to wake him, but he didn't make it to the Rap Olympics/ Slept through his plane and he missed/ He's going to have a hard time explaining to Hailey and Laney this food stamps and this WIC sh--/ Because he never risked sh--/ He hoped and he wished it."

The retrospective track also features Paramore's Hayley Williams on the hook, who was as surprised as anyone by the Eminem collaboration.

"I only found out about Eminem getting on the track like a month ago," she told MTV News. "As if the song couldn't get any better. He just slays me, he's such a genius."

B.o.B told MTV News last week that it was a gift to work with one of his heroes. He said Em's manager Paul Rosenberg grabbed Slim Shady's attention with B.o.B's first mixtape, Cloud 9, and he kept Em abreast of B.o.B's work. He tweeted Monday that he wanted to share the song first, since his album was leaking.

"Since the album is leaking ... I want this one to come from ME. Hear 'Airplanes Pt. 2' ft. EMINEM & Hayley Williams of Paramore."

Lil Wayne Fans Like 'I'm Single' Video's 'Gritty' Feel

'That's part of the reason most people like Lil Wayne, is the realness he brings to the game,' one fan tells MTV News.

NEW YORKLil Wayne's "I'm Single" video, directed by Wayne's resident videographer, DJ Scoob Doo, debuted Sunday, and it focuses on the love triangle between Wayne, his wife and his side chick. A bulk of the video features behind-the-scenes footage of Wayne shot before he began his one-year sentence for gun possession.

Last week, fans out in Times Square applauded Wayne's pre-prison planning, saying the video left them hungry for more. On Monday, MTV News hit Times Square again to get people's reactions now that the video has premiered.

"It looks real," Robert McKutian told us. "It looks gritty. It looks like something he would've made himself, and that's part of the reason most people like Lil Wayne, is the realness he brings to the game."

"It's definitely keeping his name out there," he added. "It's definitely going to keep people talking about him, so that he's not forgotten by the time he gets out."

Other fans thought it was a little different from what Lil Wayne normally does. Kenya Montasiz said Weezy's videos are typically more involved, but he liked that this video was more stripped-down.

"It's like the bottle without the brown paper bag," Montasiz said. "I think an artist needs to evolve. I think he's definitely evolving. He's definitely growing into his own. You can't do the same thing all of the time."

Other people agreed that the minimalist video is a move in the right direction. Brianna Lee said the change can definitely be beneficial because it's more personable.

"Personally, I think that's a much better decision, because it allows you to focus on the music, which I'm a bigger fan of, as opposed to the video," she said.

Lady Gaga Tweets About Upcoming 'American Idol' Appearance

'Idol' reps have yet to confirm that Gaga will be on the show May 5, as she tweeted.

This season of "American Idol" has featured a variety of guest performers, from Rihanna and Miley Cyrus to, most recently, Adam Lambert, but a potential "Idol" appearance from Lady Gaga really has fans buzzing. On Friday, the singer took to her Twitter to address the rumors.

"See you on American Idol. MAY 5th, Little Monsters," she said in a tweet that was accompanied by a YouTube video, which has since been taken down due to copyright claims.

A press time, reps for "Idol" haven't responded to MTV News' request for comment on the possible appearance.

If she is, indeed, coming on the show May 5, it wouldn't be the first time Gaga graced the "Idol" stage. Last April, the singer put on a show-stopping performance of "Poker Face." No word on what song she might perform, but fans are currently speculating she'll perform her third single "Alejandro" from her Fame Monster EP.

Gaga's music will be heading to Fox prime time regardless as "Glee" has dedicated an upcoming episode to the singer. The stars of "Glee" say Gaga's music and the show go hand in hand.

"Her music and her influence on pop music right now, it's so well expressed by 'Glee,' " actor Cory Monteith told MTV News. "The way that that episode goes with Lady Gaga's music is amazing."

Drake Joins Justin Bieber Onstage At Juno Awards

Although he walked away empty-handed from Canada's Juno Awards on Sunday, Justin Bieber's performance of "Baby" stole the show when fellow Canuck Drake took to the stage, joining him in a surprise appearance.

"I got some big surprises tonight for you," Bieber tweeted before the show began — and a big surprise it was. Bieber's performance was an acoustic rendition of the hit from his recent My World 2.0 LP (currently the #1 album on the Billboard U.S. albums chart), featuring a group of singers and a guitarist, with Drake rapping in place of Ludacris' original (although Drake does appear in the song's video).

"Please put away the cameras, we just in the club getting MC-hammered," Drake rapped. "God forbid I ever trade the wisdom for the glamour/ I know I'm just a boy that a woman could make a man of/ So make me one, I know that she could make me one/ I just want a woman that looks 30 when she's 81/ Please don't give it all away, I hope that she could save me some/ Justin, why don't you tell them where your baby's from?"

Although Bieber lost two awards to Michael Bublé (Pop Album of the Year and Album of the Year) and one to Drake (Best New Artist), he and Drizzy took the stage again for the show's big finale, a performance of K'naan's "Wavin' Flag." K'naan, who was born in Somalia but resides in Canada, won the Artist of the Year award.

The performances weren't the only surprising dynamic of the night: The show was held in the city of St. John's on the Eastern Canadian island of Newfoundland, and ashes from the eruptions of Iceland's Mt. Eyjafjallajokull volcano were causing flights to be canceled.

"This is crazy," Bieber tweeted. "The cloud from the volcano in Iceland is almost here and they are cancelling all the flights ... everyone is trying to leave."

However, the ash clouds luckily did not interrupt Bieber's travel plans, nor his habit of tweeting to fans.

"Getting all the tweets showing love and support 2night. Thanks ... I got the greatest fans in the world. And yeah .. we r getting off this island." On Monday (April 19), the singer tweeted that he was en route to Japan and Australia.
