Miley Cyrus Says Next Album Has A 'Techno Vibe'

After her summer album release, Miley Cyrus wants to take a break from making music. But her fans still have that next album to look forward to before she focuses solely on making movies, like "The Last Song," out Friday (April 2). So what can they expect from Cyrus' next batch of new music?

"My record is coming out this summer," she said. "I'm excited about that. I'm looking forward to that, and then hopefully I can continue to do more films. [The album is] a little different. It's kind of poppier, but then it still has an edge. All of my music kind of has to. I think it's really fun. It's definitely a good summer CD. It's good to blast in your car."

While much of Cyrus' music has been more pop and even touched on country, she said this next album will have a bit of a Lady Gaga influence to it. "My new record has more of a techno vibe on some stuff. It's fun," she said. "You know, I just want to kind of do all different types of music, same as I do with movies. I never want to get stuck in a rut and just do one thing."

In addition to the music on her own album, she has a duet with Bret Michaels, "Nothin' to Lose," for his record. The duo got some heat for the song's racy content, but Cyrus just brushed it off. "I've always been super into his music," she said. "He was the first concert that I ever went to, and it's great when you can find people you can jive with and get along with."

As much as she loves music, Cyrus said she's ready for a break. "I have one more record coming out this summer in June, and then after that, I want to take a step back from music for a while," she explained. "I want to continue to do film. Later in life, another record. But for now, I'd like to focus on movies."

Fabolous Says Exchange Of Twitter Quips With Jim Jones Isn't Serious

'The point I'm in, I'm focusing on career,' Fab tells Mixtape Daily.

The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive

According to Fabolous, the back-and-forth he had with fellow New York heavyweight Jim Jones recently on Twitter was no big deal — just jokes. It's not going to lead into any dis records.

The same day Fab's "Body Ya" video hit the Internet, Jones tweeted about MCs he felt were biting his style. "I just seen another rapper's video that look just like my chain gang n scarf," Jones wrote. "Damn, I'm sonnin these n----az. I guess my style might body ya. Lol.'"

Loso came back on his Twitter page with more comedy, poking fun at Jones' mixtape The Ghost of Rich Porter. "#iJustWannaKnoWhy the competition won't stay #Dead," he wrote. "Maybe I should [release] a new mixtape call #TiNc3 — Ghost of the Competition."

"#iJustWannaKnoWhy ni--as think they invented Louis Vuitton??" Fab wrote later. "#nowplaying — 'You're Only a Customer' by Jay Z."

Jones came back with, "Can I at least get a thank u for gettin ur Twitter acct poppin? Lol. I'm out. I quit. I quit. Pow pow, play dead. Lol."

Fab spoke with us on Wednesday about the situation. He says he doesn't see things escalating.

"I don't know where his comment came from," Fab said. "I joked around with it too. It was kinda subliminal.

"I think it's definitely competition," Fab added. "But you can say things — it gets taken out of context whether you meant it as a joke or not. It could have been his opinion, but it still was thrown the way he threw it. It could have been taken in the context of you taking a shot at somebody. But I had fun with it, I made some jokes. That's it. I'm not looking at it as I got a really big problem or East Coast/West Coast beef. I cracked a couple of jokes about it. I'm not making a dis record about it. The point I'm in, I'm focusing on career. I'm branded as an artist. I'm almost 10 years in the game. Twitter dissing isn't important. My last mixtape states where I'm at — there is no competition. That's on Twitter as well."

Fab's "Body Ya" — in which he kills everyone he comes in contact with just by being in the same vicinity — is just one of many visuals coming from his mixtape The Funeral Service: There Is No Competition 2.

"I just shot 'I'm Raw.' Since we were talking about 'raw,' we went to a meat house in Brooklyn," the BK native explained. "It's also a story line, same as 'Body Ya.' The story line starts off with me working in a meat market. Definitely a great video. It's a great visual for a project that was a mixtape project. I wanted to expand it a little more."

iPad Cheat Sheet: Everything You Need To Know

Posted: 02 Apr 2010 03:51 AM PDT

Apple's tablet will court movie watchers, Wall Street walkers and gamers, but what does it have for you?
By Brian Warmoth

iPad
Photo: Apple

The first iPad reviews are in, and Apple's biggest launch since the iPhone will likely command some epic lines when it lands in stores Saturday. Media nerds want it for the enlarged touch-screen interface; on-the-go business types will have their eyes on its portable work apps; and gamers have a whole new frontier to explore in the iPad App Store.

The new device will mean different things to different people, but here's a quick cheat sheet if you still haven't decided whether Apple's tablet is right for you:

The iPad as a TV
Apple claims the 9.7-inch, high-resolution display can play movies for up to 10 hours on a full battery charge, which should just about get you through a season of your favorite HBO show, the "Star Wars" trilogy with most of the special features or whatever you need to watch to get through a flight from New York to London. Apple will rent and sell video to the iPad through the iTunes store, though Hulu and Netflix reportedly have plans to get on there as well.

» 9.56 inches by 7.47 inches
» 1024-by-768-pixel resolution at 132 pixels per inch
» Backlit display

The iPad as a Laptop Replacement
The iPad might not overpower your current equivalently priced laptop computer, but it may give your smaller netbook a run for its money, thanks to the large screen and specially designed iWork apps for word processing, spreadsheets and slide presentations available through the App Store at $9.99 a pop. If you want to make the device act more like a computer, Apple also offers an external iPad Keyboard Dock for $69 that props the tablet up to resemble a monitor.

» Custom 1GHz A4 SOC made for Apple by Samsung
» 16GB, 32GB and 64GB hard drives available
» Touch-screen keyboard
» Bluetooth 2.1
» WiFi with optional 3G service from AT&T via micro SIM cards

The iPad as a Game Machine
This book-size tablet won't let you reach anywhere on the screen with your thumbs while you hold it like the iPhone will, but the new format should open the doors for big-name companies like EA and Gameloft to innovate and create entirely new game designs while also opening up a new arena for independent developers. Apple's App Store boasts more than 150,000 apps that will be compatible with or specifically tailored for the iPad at launch. One of the ripest genres for the device, however, might be board games.

» Multi-touch interface
» Accelerometer and digital compass
» Compatibility with most iPhone and iPod Touch apps

The iPad as an eReader
Look out for competitive book prices from the Amazon's iPad Kindle App, but the full-color screen should make books look great and comic books and graphic novels look even better.

» iBook Store Marketplace
» Books downloadable in ePub format from about $12.99 to $14.99

The iPad's Price Tags
The price varies by size and 3G capability, which won't be included for another few weeks, but here's what each of these dollar amounts will buy:

» $499: WiFi and 16GB
» $599: WiFi and 32GB
» $699: WiFi and 64GB
» $629: 3G, WiFi and 16GB
» $729: 3G, WiFi and 32GB
» $829: 3G, WiFi and 64GB

T.I. Says New Album Is 'More Aggressive'

Posted: 01 Apr 2010 03:42 AM PDT

In his first on-camera interview since completing his sentence, rapper says album is 'classic T.I.'
By Shaheem Reid

T.I. in an interview posted Thursday on trapmuzik.com

On Thursday (April 1), T.I. had his first on-camera interview since completing his jail sentence, revealing a few more details about his upcoming album and speaking for the first time about his time behind bars.

"I'm happy to be home," Tip said during the interview, posted on his TrapMuzik.com Web site. "I feel better than I've ever felt. I learned a lot, grew a lot. Now, I think it's time to put all that to good use."

The multi-platinum Grammy-winning rapper has been working on his yet-untitled next album (due August 24) but said that he wasn't feeling creative behind the prison walls.

"I didn't write too much. People might have thought I was doing a lot of writing, but I didn't write that much," Tip said. "I didn't get a lot of time to. It was a lot of activity around me, so I really wasn't motivated to create."

The first song from his album is called "I'm Back." The tone of the LP is vintage Tip.

"I want to maintain the level of success I've been fortunate enough to do over and over again over the years," Tip said. "This album is different in many ways. I think that Paper Trail was a lot more about thoughts; this is more about feelings. This is significantly more aggressive, or at least at this period in production. Who knows? I can do 10 love songs tomorrow and change the direction. At this point, right now, it's going hard. It's going hard like classic T.I."

T.I. was sentenced to a year and a day in jail last March stemming from a 2007 arrest for attempting to illegally purchase firearms.

Are you excited to hear T.I.'s new music? Let us know in the comments below!

Didi Benami Says She Was 'Just Riding The Wave' Of 'American Idol'

Posted: 01 Apr 2010 12:35 AM PDT

'Honestly, I got further than I ever thought that I would,' latest castoff says.
By Katie Byrne

It's been an emotional "American Idol" journey for Didi Benami.

When we met the 23-year-old waitress from Knoxville, Tennessee, she told the story of her late friend during a powerhouse audition. Her hot streak continued with an acoustic cover of the Kara DioGuardi-penned "Terrified" during Hollywood Week. But the judges were confused by Benami's all-over-the-map song choices during the live shows, and voters apparently lost interest, too, after her wobbly take on "What Becomes of the Brokenhearted," sending the singer/songwriter packing Wednesday.

We caught up with Didi on Thursday (April 1) to talk about Ryan Seacrest's awkward questions, meeting superstar mentors and what's next.

Q: You were very emotional during your time on "Idol." Is that typical for you, or was it the pressure-filled experience that set you off?

A: Music is definitely therapy for me. It's therapeutic and, I do it as a relief, and it's who I am. And it's funny, because the cameras always catch me whenever I am emotional, which sucks, because I'm not always emotional. I've actually been pretty strong through this whole thing. It's just, whenever something happens and I break down, it's unfortunately right when there's a camera in my face. But it's been an amazing ride, and of course it's been emotional, because this is something that I've always wanted to do, and reaching that place that I got to on the show was really an amazing thing for me, and it was really a big accomplishment. And that was emotional for me, because you work so hard, and you just try to believe and keep the faith and imagine and just know that good things will come, and when they finally do, it's like almost in disbelief. And it's a really amazing opportunity, and it brought me to tears.

Q: Ryan asked you some uncomfortable questions on Tuesday night that you didn't want to answer. Do you think that affected the vote at all?

A: I don't know. There's no way to tell. It was kind of a weird situation. It was a little awkward for me. ... There's a time and a place. I was trying to convey the message through the song, not by somebody asking me why I was singing it. I think it was pretty obvious to people why I was singing it. I don't think that anybody hasn't had that emotion, and I sing the song because I love the song. It was kind of an uncomfortable situation for me, because I didn't want to answer the question, but ultimately, I think I did what I felt was in my best interest.

Q: Simon hesitated while deciding whether to use the judges' save. What was it like to wait to see if they would use it?

A: It was tough. The whole crowd was chanting, and that was pretty cool. But ultimately, regardless, I kind of felt like I was going home. And I thought it would be cool if they exercised the option to let me stay, and I wanted to come back next week for Beatles week and be great. But regardless of what happened, I was kind of in the head space like I was OK either way and I'm not really worried. I've had amazing support from everybody, and it's just been a really crazy, cool ride, and I'm happy, because I'm going on tour, and I have a lot to look forward to, so I'm not at all distraught about anything. I want to put a record together, and I wanna get my music out there too, so it's cool. I'm OK with it.

Q: Was it a relief to make it to the top 10 so you could go on tour?

A: Yeah, I'm relieved I get to go on tour. I don't have to work as a waitress anymore! It's nice. I get to do what I love more than anything, and it's just amazing. The fans that are already reaching out and supporting, it's amazing, it's a blessing and, yeah, it is a relief. It's a relief to know that I will be able to make a living at what I love to do over the summer and hopefully for the rest of my life, so yeah it's been a really, really awesome experience and I'm relieved, yes.

Q: This week, Kara said she thought you had lost your way. Did you agree?

A: No, I don't feel like I lost my way. I feel like they wanted me to do something specific every week, and I kind of went out on a limb several weeks and I did different things and they weren't expecting it, and it was kind of a surprise, and it was just to show that I can do other things. I'm a singer/songwriter and I have that, but I also tap into every single emotion that I have. And that I do very well. That's something that is artistry. Through these songs, I was just showing a different side to myself, and it probably wasn't necessarily the side that they wanted to see, but I have them and I think everybody does, so I was just being me. ... I appreciate Kara, though. I think she was trying to ... I think they were all trying to be really helpful, and I was just doing my thing, and it wasn't exactly what they had kind of planned out for me, I guess.

Q: What was it like to work with Usher and Miley Cyrus?

A: It was pretty cool. I mean, I realized finally where I was, actually being there with Miley Cyrus and Usher. It was like, "Oh, I'm on 'American Idol'! I'm in the top 10!" I was just kind of riding the wave. Honestly, I got further than I ever thought that I would, and it was a really cool experience, so I'm just grateful.

Q: What kind of music do you see yourself making?

A: Didi music! [Laughs.] I'm gonna do my thing. I'm gonna do singer/songwriter type [music]. Like acoustic, low-key, chill, relaxing music. I'm gonna put my heart into what I do, like I do every time. ... It's like acoustic, I guess. Soul acoustic kind of fusion stuff — a little jazz, hint of bluegrass, and it's a little bit of everything that I've experienced in my life.

Justin Bieber's Funny Or Die Takeover: The Inside Story

A writer/producer of the newly named Bieber or Die dishes on her new boss.
By Eric Ditzian

Times are tough in the entertainment biz. Network TV viewership continues to fall, job cuts are a fact of life, and latte budgets are reportedly being slashed in executive suites all over Hollywood. Enter 16-year-old pop throb Justin Bieber, who swooped in to purchase the sketch comedy Web site Funny or Die on Thursday (April 1).

"The timing just seemed right for 'Bieber or Die,' " Bieber said in a statement about the newly renamed site. "No one really cares for 'funny' anymore anyway. I mean, try to define funny and then try to define Bieber, and you will understand completely."

Except not all. It was an inspired April Fools' Day prank that had FOD and Bieber conspiring to rebrand the site and produce a series of sketches in which he faced off against an O-faced kitty cat, took a nasty spill while singing "Baby" and proudly declared, "Sometimes I don't feel like walking, so I make enormous people carry me around. ... Let's go get a lollipop!"

Still sticking very much to the Bieber or Die script, Lauren Palmigiano, one of the site's writer/producers, called up MTV News to tell us about shooting the videos and what office life is like under the reign of the Biebs.

MTV: How did this whole thing come together?

Lauren Palmigiano: Justin just wanted to run the world. He came to us and wanted to buy a Web site, and we realized that comedy can only get us so far. And videos with Justin Bieber will take us to the level we're trying to get to.

MTV: How long did it take you guys to shoot all the videos?

Palmigiano: The production staff for Funny or Die spent the day with Justin on Tuesday, and we just followed him around. He's a really busy guy, and he had a ton of things going on and we shot the videos in a total of about an hour over the whole day. He squeezed us into a day where he had meetings, interviews; he did a surprise appearance with Ludacris. We just hung out and waited for whenever he had five or 10 minutes and pulled him aside and shot the videos as quickly as possible.

MTV: Tell us about the creative process? Did you just pitch him ideas? Did he throw any out to you?

Palmigiano: Little bit of both. We had some ideas of things we wanted to get with him, and once we were with him, he had some ideas of videos he wanted to shoot as well. "Bieber After the Dentist" was his idea. "Bieber Takes a Tumble" was his idea. He really had fun with the "Bieber Takes Over" video.

MTV: So you've lived out the dream of millions of middle school girls. What was it like spending the day with Justin Bieber?

Palmigiano: He's a really fun, cool guy who's fun to work with — and just a talented kid. He's very busy. At the core of it all, he's just a regular kid who's living his dream. We hoped for him to be cool, and he's been cool, since he's our new boss. He took over Will Ferrell's office upstairs. His posse's hanging out. Everyone on staff is required to wear high tops at this point. He's running it, and we couldn't be happier.

MTV: Aziz Ansari did an FOD video poking fun at Bieber not too long ago. Did that ever come up when Bieber was shooting his videos?

Palmigiano: We did talk about it. When we arrived to start the day, we had the actor that played Justin Bieber in [Aziz's] re-enactment with us. There was a little bit of tension there. We were worried because Justin's going to be our new boss, we helped Aziz make that video — are we going to have a problem? Justin was really diplomatic about it. Just a couple lashes, and it was a thing of the past.

MTV: Not to get too much into the contract details, but what did Bieber pay for FOD? Did he pay in Monopoly money or candy corn?

Palmigiano: I don't think I'm at liberty to say exactly, but I will say it's all in sweets and bubblegum.

MTV: What's Bieber like as a boss?

Palmigiano: It's like being in the movie "Big." There's toys everywhere and music playing constantly. He's singing while walking down the hallways. It's a really upbeat, positive environment. Most of us are in our 30s, so I don't know how long we can keep up this pace. We're doing our best.

MTV: Now that Bieber's in charge, are we going to see more of his videos on the site?

Palmigiano: Absolutely. We have some ideas that we're working on. This will not be the last of the Justin Bieber videos. Bieber is just getting started.

What do you think of Bieber or Die? Let us know in the comments!

The fans on Twitter are writing "Free @liltunechi." The fans on the street are screaming "Free Lil Wayne." Any way you put it, the people miss one of rap's most dynamic superstars.

We haven't sat down with Weezy yet for a new interview, but he left us some more footage of himself before heading to jail last month. In the clip, Wayne is recording songs for his No Ceilings mixtape, and even though the music was coming out great, he wasn't 100 percent inspired.

"It's all right, but I really don't feel it like that," Wayne said, looking into the camera while shooting his "Nino Brown Story" DVD. Someone off camera jokingly yells "bullsh--."

"I swear to God," Wayne insisted. "It's all right. I'm telling you, rappers now, you better get it up while I'm not feeling it like that. Once I start feeling it like that, y'all in trouble. Right now, I'm rappin' right now because y'all ain't heard me in a minute. I don't really feel it like that. But my artists though ... psssh. They'll eat you n---as' lunch. We superstars. We don't battle. We don't want to be compared to nobody. I teach, I preach and I [lead by example]. Superstars. We breed superstars. I teach them how to be superstars first. You don't wanna be a rapper, you don't wanna be a singer, you wanna be a superstar. Therefore you don't have to rap nor sing. You can do whatever, because you a superstar. It's easier."

Wayne recently teamed with another superstar, Eminem. As you know, they filmed the video for "Drop the World" in February, and some new behind-the-scenes pictures have surfaced.

Also, we got a sneak peek at a Wayne video directed by DJ Scoob Doo. They made a movie. Check back soon for more on that one.

'American Idol' In 60 Seconds: Meet New Lee Dewyze, Bizarro Ryan Seacrest

Tim Urban's dedicated fans save him one more time, as Didi Benami goes home.

"American Idol" in 60 Seconds has fast become an MTV News institution, but it goes by so fast that it's not always easy to catch every golden nugget. So, here we present to you Jim Cantiello's bite-size recap of this week's "Idol" high jinks.

This week's "American Idol" introduced viewers to several new characters. We met the new and improved Lee Dewyze, who now has the ability to sing on key! We met Mama Garcia, a feisty "Idol" parent who isn't afraid to (jokingly) get in Simon Cowell's face when she disagrees with him. And we met Ryan Seacrest's evil twin brother, also named Ryan Seacrest, whose style of hosting includes forcing contestants to talk about their dead friends, speaking in offensive accents and urging judges to make out with each other. Bizarro Ryan Seacrest's off-putting antics made us long for Brian Dunkleman. Shudder!

But that's not all that was new. Thanks to the addition of backstage cameras, viewers saw what happened in the greenroom after the contestants performed. Spoiler alert: Most of them sulked. All of them avoided Big Mike Lynche's hugs like the plague.

Usher was this week's guest mentor and the superstar took the job super-seriously. (Occasionally, he even removed his sunglasses!) The U-Man tried his hardest to pick up Tim Urban ("Pretend I'm the love of your life and sing to me!") but the deeply religious heterosexual did not fall for Usher's sneaky charms. Teflon Tim indeed!

Speaking of Tim Urban, the judges came to the scary realization that no matter how absurd Tim's performances end up being (this week's offering had the cult-faced white boy moaning Anita Baker's "Sweet Love" into the camera), their reviews are completely irrelevant. Kara had the toughest time accepting Tim's nonstop giggling, going so far as accusing the Texan teen of being slow on the results show. Stay classy, DioGuardi!

Also classy? Andrew "I'm Going to Cover Chris Brown and if You Don't Like It My Mom Will Threaten to Beat You Up" Garcia. Now that Andrew lived up to his "Straight Up" hype, we imagine the judges will stop mentioning that song week to week. Good news for viewers, bad news for Paula Abdul.

On Wednesday night's infomercial for "Clash of the Titans," Ruben Studdard stopped by to talk about veganism and sing a song with two notes in it. Other highlights* (*not actually highlights) included: Usher proving that Auto-Tune doesn't necessarily keep you on pitch, Diddy-Dirty Money proving that you're never too old to grind up against a backup dancer and Justin Bieber proving that he is a ninja who can promote his #1 album by being everywhere at the same time.

Results-wise, Tim landed in the bottom three for the third week in a row, and for the third week in a row a more talented singer was asked to leave before him. (Full disclosure: This was Katie Stevens' second trip to the bottom three. Rumor has it Connecticut is adding that fact to all state maps. Success!)

It's been fun, Didi Benami! (Only, a lot of times, it wasn't.) We'd say "see you on tour this summer" but ... um ... we're busy ... cleaning our bathroom. And. Uh. Laundry.

Michael Jackson Doctor Conrad Murray Fights To Keep Medical License

Murray is charged with manslaughter in the pop star's 2009 death.

Dr. Conrad Murray, who is being charged with manslaughter for the death of pop superstar Michael Jackson, has said in court papers that he must be granted the right to continue practicing medicine, otherwise, he won't be able to pay for his defense in the case.

Murray was responding to a bid by the California attorney general to suspend his license pending trial, The Associated Press reports. Attorneys for the doctor say if that were to happen, the results would be devastating for the financially strapped Murray.

"He is, without fear of overstatement, hanging on by a thread," the attorneys wrote. "His ability to pay for his own defense depends almost entirely on his ability to continue to treat patients."

Murray, who is due back in court on Monday, has pleaded not guilty to the involuntary-manslaughter charges brought up against him in Jackson's death; the singer was administered anesthetic propofol and other drugs by Murray.

Should he be suspended in California — where he no longer practices — his lawyers fear there might be a domino effect in Texas and Nevada, where the bulk of his practice is.

"If Dr. Murray is unable to practice medicine in Texas, and especially Nevada, he will likely be faced with the inability to adequately defend himself of the charges facing him in the Superior Court of California," his lawyers wrote. "The case with which he is charged will require intensive attorney work and fees. In light of the fact that much of his defense will be scientifically based and involves the death of an internationally famous decedent, expenses for his defense will be considerable."

Lawyers for Murray also say that should he be suspended, he'd struggle to pay child support.

The AP also reports that court records show financial woes aren't new to Murray, and they date back to when he signed on in May at $150,000 per month to keep Jackson healthy through a series of comeback shows planned in London. At that time, he owed at least $780,000 for settlements against his business, outstanding mortgage payments on his house, delinquent student loans, child support and credit cards. He also faced near foreclosure on his Las Vegas country-club home.

In January, he made a payment of $1,003 on a $15,500 child-support debt involving a California woman and her 11-year-old son. The next month, he failed to appear at a Las Vegas court proceeding and was found in default on a $132,000 debt related to office and medical equipment and services.

Paul Oakenfold On Working With Madonna, Brittany Murphy

When MTV News caught up with British DJ and producer Paul Oakenfold last weekend in Miami, he was right where we expected him to be: poolside at the Raleigh Hotel, both a fan and an artist amid the many revelers and dance-music industry types making their annual pilgrimage to the Winter Music Conference.

Even for a dance-music icon, Oakenfold has seen and done it all: He's toured around the world and worked with U2, Madonna, Justin Timberlake, New Order and dozens of other stars. He's scored films and video games; he's held club residencies in England, Spain and now Las Vegas.

Still, with such a rich past, it was pleasing to hear Oakenfold say how exciting dance music is these days.

"The great thing about Madonna, when I produced 'Celebration,' she understood that the way forward was through electronic music," Oakenfold said. "Hats off to her for realizing that. With the rock singers, we've always been involved in some respect, because a lot of rock records have been remixed and done really well in Europe and the rest of the world. It's more the urban world now is knocking on the DJ's door." For proof of the latter statement, look no further than the work of French DJ/producer David Guetta, who's recently worked with the Black Eyed Peas ("I Gotta Feeling"), Akon ("Sexy Chick"), Kid Cudi ("Memories"), and Kelly Rowland ("When Love Takes Over").

For Oakenfold, it's all par for the course. Over the years he's worked on songs with Nelly Furtado, Pharrell Williams, Ice Cube and even the late, legendary writer Hunter S. Thompson. And he's got a similar team of A-listers on his forthcoming album, Pop Killer.

"I have some interesting people, actually," he said. "From the Red Hot Chili Peppers to Ryan Tedder, the lead singer of OneRepublic, and Cee-Lo, who's in Gnarls Barkley."

Not appearing on the album but certainly another notable name that the producer worked with is the late actress Brittany Murphy, whose Oakenfold-helmed dance hit "Faster Kill Pussycat" (from the producer's 2006 Lively Mind LP) was a showcase for the actress' largely overlooked talent as a singer.

"That song did really well," Oakenfold said. "It's a shame, because she was not only a wonderful person but a fantastic vocalist. She was very open to embracing someone else's material, and she was the first actress I had worked with in terms of directing and producing a piece of music. She was very open-minded. The world never got to hear how good of a singer she really was."
