In the immediate hours following Bret Michaels' hospitalization for a brain hemorrhage, his fans have been poring over various websites looking for a hopeful update on the Poison frontman's health. Now, encouraging word has leaked that Michaels may be better off than initially feared.

TMZ is reporting that Michaels is "awake, in good spirits and talking" as of Friday evening (April 23). This information comes from Ambre Lake, the season-two winner of Michaels' "Rock of Love" reality show. TMZ reports that Lake has spoken with people close to Bret who say he's "stabilized and conscious."

Lake's status update on the 47-year-old hair-metal legend is said to coincide with another unidentified "Rock of Love" contestant who is in touch with the other members of Poison.

Michaels was rushed to the hospital late Thursday evening, where doctors discovered he had suffered a massive brain hemorrhage, a rep for the singer confirmed to MTV News.

"After several CAT scans, MRIs and an angiogram, [doctors] decided to keep Michaels in the ICU and are running several tests to determine the cause [of the hemorrhage]," the source told People. "[It] will be touch and go for the next few days while he is under intense observation."

The next 24 to 48 hours are considered critical for Michaels, and he will be closely monitored by the staff at the undisclosed hospital. Most recently, Michaels has been a contestant on NBC's "Celebrity Apprentice."

Solar Says His Relationship With Guru's Family 'Got Weird In The End'

'Up until that point, there was no tension between myself and the family at all,' he tells MTV News.

The obvious divide between Keith "Guru" Elam's family and his friend and collaborator Solar is as large as the Grand Canyon.

Relatives of the late Gang Starr MC — like his nephew Justin, who posted a YouTube video expressing his concerns about Solar after Guru was admitted to the hospital in February — say he purposely kept them in the dark about their loved one's deteriorating condition. They have alleged that Solar tried to keep family and friends from seeing the MC, who lost his battle with cancer on Monday.

"The funny thing is, it hasn't been all this tension. It got weird in the end," Solar told Sway earlier this week. "Up until the end, it didn't exist, quite honestly. I talked to his father every Father's Day; he came to this concert tribute in Boston. I visited his mother and father; they visited us. The tension really became evident in February. It became the public thing it is when Justin put the video out. It's just an untrue video, and it opened the door for a lot of other things. Up until that point, there was no tension between myself and the family at all. I didn't know [Justin's mother and Guru's sister] Trish at all.

"I have nothing but the utmost respect for his family," Solar added. "It's unfortunate that the rift happened and Justin got caught into this divide in between."

In the wake of Guru's death, a big point of contention was a foundation that Guru was quoted as announcing in his farewell letter released on Tuesday. "I have a nonprofit organization called Each One Counts dedicated to carrying on my charitable work on behalf of abused and disadvantaged children from around the world and also to educate and research a cure for this terrible disease that took my life," the letter read. "I write this with tears in my eyes, not of sorrow but of joy for what a wonderful life I have enjoyed and how many great people I have had the pleasure of meeting."

Guru's family members said they had never heard of any such organization in a statement they released to the public on Wednesday.

"That's an organization started by Guru, myself and my people," Solar said. "Hopefully it'll grow to be a huge worldwide charitable organization.

"There a lot of things that Guru has done in his business and life that they don't know," he added. "He doesn't report to them. He never reported to them. Guru's a full-grown man. He didn't report to them everything he did. They're not his business mangers, and they didn't have that type of relationship."

Solar also said Guru's relatives are in full control of his funeral. "Yeah, I'm done with that," he said. "That's it. I'm done. Totally out of it. That's between him and his family."

Fergie Is 'Perfect' in 'Gettin' Over You' Video, David Guetta Says

'This is going to be my best video ever', DJ/producer tells MTV News of new collabo, also featuring Will.I.Am and LMFAO.

The French house-music DJ/producer who produced last summer's Black Eyed Peas hit "I Gotta Feeling" is planning a repeat chart assault. David Guetta just shot the video for his "Gettin' Over You," a song he's convinced will be the summer anthem of 2010.

"I have no words. This is going to be my best video, I'm sure," Guetta told MTV News when we caught up with him at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, fresh off the video shoot.

The seemingly endless obsession with "I Gotta Feeling" hasn't gone unnoticed by Guetta, who may be following a formula for success by reuniting with some of the song's key players. (The massive hit from the Peas' album The E.N.D. spent 14 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 last year and remains a club staple.) "Gettin' Over You" features Will.I.Am, Fergie and LMFAO. It's only fitting, then, that the new clip includes a nod to the first collaboration that helped make Guetta a crossover star.

"The video is the story of what happened to me when I came to produce 'I Gotta Feeling' for the Black Eyed Peas," Guetta said. "It was my first time in that studio called Record Plant. I was so impressed, and we started to work with Will.I.Am and more and more artists were coming to say, 'Hello,' and were like, 'Oh, this music is different.' And they were staying. Girls were starting to dance on the couch.

"So the inspiration for my video is really that. We're in recording sessions — me, Fergie, LMFAO, [singer] Chris Willis — and then more and more people are partying in the studio. We party in the streets. Partying in the area ... partying in the city."

Oddly enough, Guetta's energetic onstage demeanor is in direct contrast to his comfort level with the acting required for a music video.

"I'm so bad. I can only be myself," he laughed. "I'm such a bad actor, it's terrible. If you tell me, 'Do what you usually do,' it's kind of OK. So I'm producing that record, that's what I'm doing in the video."

But the dance-music phenom could only rave about Fergie's performance. "I look stupid, you know, totally suck," Guetta said. "Her, it's the opposite. They say 'rolling,' and she knows exactly what she's doing, like, the angle, the look, the light. I asked her after we shot, 'Did you have a monitor? Could you see yourself?' Because it was so perfect."

Green Day Contest Winners Rave About Surprise Show

Winners of MTV's 'American Idiot' contest got big surprise at end of musical.

On Thursday night, winners of MTV's "American Idiot" contest were not only treated to a great show — but a surprise mini concert by Green Day, who took the stage to play "American Idiot" and "Basket Case." So, all in all, it was a pretty great night.

"I think I had heart failure! It was the most amazing experience," contest winner Fallyn Ruzzi told MTV News following the show. "I mean, the play was great, and then Green Day played songs, too!"

Ruzzi was just one of the 300 lucky winners who flocked to New York's St. James Theater hours before the performance was even scheduled to begin, waited in line to pick up their tickets to the musical, and then got to witness a post-show performance by Green Day. It took most of the audience completely by surprise.

"We had heard Green Day weren't even going to be here," Ruzzi said. "It was amazing when they came out!"

But what did Ruzzi — and other winners — think of the show itself? Well, as one might expect, they were blown away by the production. But, like most hard-core Green Day fans, when they first heard the band was taking "Idiot" to Broadway, she had her doubts.

"I didn't like the idea of Green Day coming to Broadway at first — I thought it was a bad idea," Ruzzi said. "But then I heard the songs from the Berkeley Rep [performances] and I just fell in love with it."

Echoing those sentiments was Ruzzi's friend — and fellow Green Day enthusiast — Toni Ann Graffigna, who was also skeptical of the album coming to the Great White Way. After seeing the show, she's now firmly a believer.

"I wasn't that crazy about the idea at first, but it's Green Day, you gotta give it a chance," she said. "The whole show touched my heart. I would see it every day, if I could. I almost cried ... I'd recommend everyone to see it, even if you don't like Green Day, just come out and see it."

With so many moments counted down — and with the stars giving MTV News their favorites before "The Hills" final season debuts Tuesday — we've now reached #5 on our list of the most buzzed-about scenes in the show's history. With Lauren Conrad off the show in season five, newcomer Kristin Cavallari immediately brought her own brand of drama.

Since her days on "Laguna Beach," wherever Cavallari goes, the drama follows. When she made her big return to reality TV, she made sure we knew that she was back in full force. As a surprise guest at Speidi's wedding, Kristin immediately hung out with Justin Bobby, much to Audrina Patridge's dismay.

Months later, when the entire crew was hanging out at a rooftop party, the two ladies came to verbal blows over JB. No one could have predicted that during Kristin's first episode, the drama that we've always loved on "The Hills" would be brought to a whole new level.

That fight — in which Kristin declared, "It's on, bi---!" — certainly set the tone for the rest of the season, and Kristin lived up to her promise of bringing nothing but excitement.

"The [moment] that really stands out the most for me was the first episode that I was on. ... The fight that I got into with Audrina and Stephanie was so out of left field," Cavallari later told MTV News. "It was the last thing I was expecting to happen, and it was probably one of the biggest fights I've ever been in."

What are some of your favorite "Hills" moments? Let us know in the comments below!

"The Hills: Final Season" premieres Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET/PT followed by "The City" at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.

Thanks to performances by Carrie Underwood, Mary J. Blige, Alicia Keys and Sir Elton John, Wednesday night's third "Idol Gives Back" charity event raised almost $45 million for a variety of charities, according to figures provided by Fox.

The two-hour-plus show raised funds for U.S. and international charities including the Children's Health Fund, Feeding America, Malaria No More, Save the Children's U.S. Programs and the United Nations Foundation. In addition to powerful taped packages featuring the show's four judges and host Ryan Seacrest visiting charitable organizations, stars such as Jennifer Garner, David Arquette, Morgan Freeman and Annie Lennox appeared in segments spotlighting the work of some of the designated organizations.

The fundraising figure was slightly below the previous totals for the show, which brought in more than $70 million during its inaugural year in 2007, when Underwood, Fergie, Kelly Clarkson and Green Day performed, and $60 million in 2008, which featured Miley Cyrus, Snoop Dogg, Jordin Sparks and Mariah Carey. The event took a year off in 2009 due to the economic recession.

"Once again, I am over overwhelmed by the generosity of the 'American Idol' viewers, our sponsors and our special benefactors. I am so thankful to all of the celebrity guests and performers who appeared Wednesday night to support 'Idol Gives Back,' " said "Idol" creator Simon Fuller in a statement. The $45 million figure is likely to go up when the totals are in from the iTunes store, which will donate net proceeds from the sales of the top seven finalist performances to "Idol Gives Back." A select number of performances from Wednesday night's show will also be featured in the iTunes store.

Also performing on the show were Jeff Beck and Joss Stone, the Black Eyed Peas and Lennox, who unveiled a touching new song about the struggles of underprivileged children entitled "Universal Child." Among the actors, comedians and dignitaries who pitched in were President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, Victoria Beckham, Wanda Sykes, George Lopez, David Cook, Russell Brand, Jonah Hill, and Bill and Melinda Gates.

Donations are still being accepted online at AmericanIdol.com and by telephone at (877) IDOL-AID (877-436-5243; toll-free).

Bret Michaels In Critical Condition With Brain Hemorrhage

Late Thursday night, rocker Bret Michaels was rushed to an undisclosed hospital, where doctors discovered he had suffered a massive brain hemorrhage, according to People magazine. A rep for the singer confirmed to MTV News that the report is accurate and said they will not have further information until more testing is done.

At press time, Michaels, 47, was reportedly in critical condition. A source told People that he was first taken to the hospital after complaining of "an excruciating headache," and upon examination, doctors learned he had suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage, or bleeding at the base of his brain stem.

"After several CAT scans, MRIs and an angiogram, [doctors] decided to keep Michaels in the ICU and are running several tests to determine the cause [of the hemorrhage]," the source told People. "[It] will be touch and go for the next few days while he is under intense observation."

Earlier this month, Michaels — who is also diabetic — was admitted to a hospital in San Antonio with what he believed was a stomach flu, but doctors diagnosed him with acute appendicitis and rushed him into emergency surgery. Following the procedure, his spokesperson said Michaels was "doing well and beginning the recovery process."

Michaels remained in the hospital under his doctor's care and then was transferred to a rehabilitation facility that specializes in diabetic patients. While in recovery, he wrote a note to his fans thanking them for their support and expressed his desire to return to the current season of NBC's "Celebrity Apprentice," which he is still in the running to win.

A statement posted Wednesday on Michaels' website once again thanked fans for their well wishes and said that he was rescheduling the shows he was forced to cancel after undergoing the appendectomy.

Tim Urban Says Shirtless Picture 'Helped More Than It Hurt' On 'American Idol'

Tim Urban might have lasted on "American Idol" longer than fans expected, but those extra weeks actually gave him a chance to redeem himself after being lambasted by the judges week after week.

But he reached a little too high with his cover of the Goo Goo Dolls' "Better Days" during "Idol Gives Back" week and was sent packing Wednesday night.

During a conference call with reporters after his elimination, he opened up about his good attitude through all the criticism, Vote for the Worst's support and that shirtless picture.

Q: Simon complimented you on your attitude in the competition, that you took everything positively. What did it mean to you that they recognized not only how you grew as a performer, but also appreciated the way you came across?

A: That's actually something that was my goal on the show. It was not just to improve as an artist, but to just be a very good contestant and to take what everybody was saying and to just treat the situation — not let it get me down, but to take what they were saying and work at it and improve, but also, not to really complain or to talk back. Just take the criticism and work from it. It was cool to get that recognition about that. It's something that I'm very proud of.

Q: What would you say to your critics who thought you only lasted as long as you did because of your good looks and charisma?

A: Oh, wow. I don't think that I would respond to that. It seems that people just like to take somebody and then find something that they don't like about them and talk about it. I get that. It's part of dealing with the industry. It's part of being in the spotlight. So people are going to say that, but people are going to say that about pretty much anybody. You'll find people that don't like any artist out there, and so you have to deal with it, shrug it off. I don't perform for the people who don't like me; I perform for the people who want me to be onstage, so those are the people that I try to worry about.

Q: What did you think when the shirtless picture of you hit the Web?

A: I kind of knew it would come out eventually. I didn't really expect it to be as big as it was, because it kind of blew up really fast. That was kind of a little crazy, but I just took it in stride. It's part of the show. Everybody is looking for something in the backstory. Everybody is looking for an extra story, so it's just one of the stories that people decided to run with. I just try not to worry about it too much.

Q: Do you think it helped or hindered you?

A: Kind of both. I definitely heard that it helped, but then there are also people who might see that and not take me seriously, just because of that type of thing. I don't know; I think it probably helped more than it hurt, but I don't really know for sure.

Q: Last year, we heard a lot about contestants' religious backgrounds and their experiences singing in church. How has your religion influenced your time on "American Idol"?

A: My personal belief has really shaped pretty much every aspect of my life. I grew up in a very Christian home, and that set of morals and just that upbringing has shaped me musically, has shaped me as a person, and just, I don't know, it's kind of hard to explain, because it's pretty much who I am. So it's not just a part of my life.

Q: What did you think about VoteForTheWorst.com backing you?

A: I'm not excited that I was on their website. I think that it's really not anything that anybody should be proud of. I really didn't like being on there, and basically I was working my hardest to get off of it. Yes, I'm actually kind of sad that I was on that website at all.

Q: What do you want to do next? A few people have floated the idea of you teaming up with Disney or appearing on "Glee."

A: You know, I would love to do music. I would love to pursue that, and I'm hoping that that door opens up, but I also have always had a desire to act, and to just be in that side of the entertainment industry as well. So I would be really excited if I got the opportunity to do that as well. I'm just waiting to see what happens, but I'm open to any of that at this point. I'm really just excited about the whole thing.

'The Hills' Stars Pick Their Favorite Moments

Posted: 23 Apr 2010 12:34 AM PDT

Kristin, Stephanie, Lo and Audrina look back on fights, breakups and much more drama.
By Jocelyn Vena

Kristin Cavallari
Photo: Miranda Penn Turin

With the sixth and final season of "The Hills" set to bow on Tuesday, and MTV News already counting down the show's top 10 most buzzed-about moments, it seemed like the perfect time to ask the "Hills" cast to weigh in on some of their own favorite moments. Here, Audrina, Lo, Stephanie and Kristin share their picks for the most memorable (and often shocking) episodes.

Kristin Cavallari
"The one that really stands out the most for me was the first episode that I was on [in the second half of season five]. ... The fight that I got into with Audrina and Stephanie was so out of left field," Cavallari told MTV News. "And it was the last thing I was expecting to happen, and it was probably one of the biggest fights I've ever been in. So that was the moment that just really stands out the most for me."

Stephanie Pratt
"I know what my most shocking was," she said. "When Lauren showed up to Heidi and Spencer's wedding. I was the only one shocked."

Lo Bosworth
"I think my most shocking moment hasn't exactly come to life yet on TV, because we haven't seen the episodes yet. I am really looking forward to seeing all the crazy on this current season. I feel like we have never gone into all the stuff we're touching on [in season six]," she teased. "The surgeries, the partying ... we've really never gone that far even if it's going on. We've just touched on boyfriends and friendships. I think this season will be more real."

Audrina Patridge
"There's so many favorite moments," Patridge said. "It's funny, because watching the show with the music, it makes it so emotional. So there's been a lot of moments, fun moments, like going on vacation and just having fun with each other. There's been so many dramatic moments and fights and tears and ups-and-downs of friendships and relationships, so really watching those — I mean, at the finale, we are probably all going to start crying. It is going to be a sad, sad moment."

"Hills" fans wouldn't argue that there have been so many dramatic occasions, they're almost too numerous to count. But MTV News has managed to narrow it down to 10. We're already halfway through, starting with Stephanie Pratt's disastrous People's Revolution job interview. The infamous renaming of Audrina's on-off boyfriend Justin Bobby came in at #9, while the #8 spot went to Heidi Montag for crashing Lauren's Teen Vogue party. At #7 is the speech delivered by a tipsy Holly Montag at Speidi's wedding rehearsal dinner, followed by the many weddings of Heidi and Spencer at #6. Kristin's declaration of war last season is #5, and you'll have to stay tuned next week to find out the rest!

Which "Hills" star do you think had the most drama? Let us know in the comments!

"The Hills: Final Season" premieres Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET/PT followed by "The City" at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.

Gorillaz's Damon Albarn Loves La Roux, Doesn't Get Justin Bieber

'His hairstyle has really kind of captured the imagination,' he tells MTV News of Biebs.

As if his rubber-duck-and-swimming-pool rant against Simon Cowell wasn't already proof of this point, please know that Damon Albarn — one-half of the brain trust behind Gorillaz — isn't exactly afraid to voice his displeasure about the current state of pop music.

On Thursday, Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett came by the MTV Newsroom to talk about the success of Gorillaz's third album, Plastic Beach, and, inevitably, the conversation shifted to the group's pop contemporaries, be they Cowell or Lady Gaga and Beyoncé, about whom he scoffed, "[They] work very, very hard to be very, very popular. ... That seems to be all they care about in life."

And that was just the beginning. Because Albarn is a guy who takes his pop music pretty seriously — he grew up on it — and the current state of things depresses him severely. Well, most of it, at least.

"Most of it, I'm not interested in. There is some new stuff I like. ... La Roux's 'In for the Kill,' I loved that song. That gave me the kind of pop thrill I used to get when I listened to stuff as a kid," Albarn said. "It doesn't last very long in your life, but it helps you through. It hasn't stayed with me the way [the Clash's] 'Combat Rock' stayed with me or [Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five's] 'The Message' stayed with me, but it gave me that same thrill. And that's what some pop music is, and there is always [going to be] popular music, and I hope Gorillaz is in the latter category, where it can last.

"Because, that's the thing, isn't it? Good pop music should last, it should be what people listen to, because if you want pop, it's better," he continued. "It might not look as attractive or carry the same cultural clichés, but, as for actual music, it's better. And music is still actually important, and once it loses all sense of integrity, our culture will die."

We told you he took this stuff seriously. And, as is to be expected when talking about pop music — or, really, anything for that matter — the topic of Justin Bieber eventually surfaced. And, well, perhaps it's best if those with Bieber Fever just stopped reading right now.

"His hairstyle has really kind of captured the imagination, along with Simon Cowell's rubber duck," Albarn smiled. "But that's just a hairstyle."

What do you think of Damon's pop-music rant? Let us know in the comments below!
