What's Next For 'The Hills' Cast?

From acting to handbag design, 'Hills' stars share their post-show plans.

Now that it's been announced that the upcoming season of "The Hills" will be the last, we wonder: What will the cast go on to do after the show ends? After Lauren Conrad's departure she began her own mini-empire that includes a book series, a clothing line and a movie in the works. Whitney Port left the show only to star in her own spin-off, "The City." The fates of the remaining "Hills" stars are up in the air, but they've hinted at possible post-show careers.

Heidi Montag has made it known that she wants to be a pop star and she's also recently made her way into movies, having filmed a cameo for the new Adam Sandler flick "Just Go With It." She also recently tweeted she's back in the designing game. "Designing my FIRST handbag! I am so excited!" she tweeted. "What's your favorite type of bag?"

Her husband Spencer Pratt recently shared that he intends to go back to school to study encryption at the University of Southern California so he can work for American Defense Enterprises in their cyber-security division. He said of his new career path, which is a far cry from his rap career, "I have decided to refocus my energy and devote my full resources to helping America face this and other unprecedented challenges."

Kristin Cavallari has some experience in the acting game, so it seems likely that she would further pursue a career in Hollywood. She's already gushed about how much she enjoys the world of acting. "I love being on set and being in a movie," she said. "I think it's so much fun. I really, really love it."

Audrina Patridge has also dabbled in acting, so she may focus some of her energy on that — but she's also been working with Mark Burnett on a pilot in hopes that it will get picked up once "The Hills" wraps up. As for Brody Jenner, he can always make a stop by "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" to hang out with his TV family. And while Conrad has jokingly said she'd love it if Lo starred in the "L.A. Candy" flick, Bosworth has said that she would like to get into TV presenting in her post-"Hills" life.

What do you want to see happen to the "Hills" crew after the show ends? Tell us in the comments!

"The Hills: Final Season" premieres April 27 at 10 p.m. ET/PT followed by "The City" at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.

Scarface Comes Out Of Retirement, Announces First Mixtape

'I always wanted to drop a mixtape on my own,' MC tells Mixtape Daily.

The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive

First things first: A huge R.I.P. to Eric "Eazy-E" Wright who died 15 years ago Friday (March 26) at the age of 31. Eazy meant so much to the rap game — not just a godfather of gangsta rap, his business acumen was unparallelled and he helped revolutionize the independent record hustle. Your genius was amazing, O.G.

With that said, it's only right we keep it legendary for today's piece — and we have a humdinger. Scarface hit us up with a trailer and not only is the Houston trailblazer coming out of his short rap retirement, but 'Face is putting out his first ever street CD.

"I'm a free agent," he said. "I always wanted to drop a mixtape on my own. So I just said, 'Let's drop an independent mixtape.' I feel that I should be as an adult and musician and pioneer — that's what they call me. ... I feel that I need to move on to another stage with the way I deliver my music to the public. I got a lot of sh-- and I'm using about 3 percent of what I know about music. I'm not using it all. I'm music. I can play that sh-- long enough for a real musician to catch it and feel me, where I'm going, and we make magic like that."

'Face strongly hinted that we'll hear live instrumentation on his mixtape.

"I'm f---ing music — I love music," he said. "I eat, sleep and sh-- music. I been around music all my life. I was born in a band. My uncles and cousin were in a band ... my daddy was a DJ. That's all I ever knew. My mom was in a band. She was a singer. That's all I ever knew was being in a band. I'm comfortable being onstage in front of people, playing all the instruments."

Justin Bieber Says He 'Could Date A Fan' In 'Diary' Sneak Peek

Justin Bieber will be the star of his very own "Diary," airing Sunday at 7:30 p.m. ET on MTV, and in it, he interacts a lot with his fans. The most important questions of all are raised in the special: Would Bieber ever date a fan? And does he have a girlfriend? Fans can get a behind-the-scenes look at what it's like to be the teen idol as he travels the globe promoting his music during "The Diary of Justin Bieber." MTV News has been giving you some hints as to what you can expect from the special, and here's another: Bieber talks about his love life.

"I'm single, and I'm just having fun," he said. "I could date a fan. It just depends. It depends on the situation."

In case you ever wondered how you could end up in a music video, Bieber has your answer. "Well, basically, they're chosen out of their agencies, like the modeling agency or whoever, and they send us pictures, and we go by the pictures," he said, adding, "I don't know where they would send it, but sure, [girls can send pictures]."

In an earlier clip, Bieber talked about his previous relationship. "It's weird when people say, 'You're only 15,' because I know I am only 15, but at the same time, I think at any age you can experience love. Whether you're 80 or 5, you're always gonna ... I don't know. There's a difference between love and being in love, because you can love someone but not necessarily be in love. So I think I've loved girls, but I don't know — I haven't been in love before."

Paige Miles Says She Got 'Mixed Messages' On 'American Idol'

Posted: 25 Mar 2010 12:27 AM PDT

'The best thing to do, really, is just do yourself,' she says.
By Katie Byrne

Most "American Idol" fans would agree that Paige Miles made it farther in the competition than anyone could have predicted. Not only was she virtually nonexistent on the show before being named to the top 24, she also got week after week of criticism from the judges for not living up to her potential. On top of that, she struggled with laryngitis over the past two weeks.

But, against all odds (sorry!), she soldiered through to the top 11, unfortunately just missing the cut for this summer's Idols Live! Tour. Her version of the oft-covered "Against All Odds" by Phil Collins was lambasted by the judges, and voters agreed, sending her packing during Wednesday's results show.

We caught up with the bubbly schoolteacher on Thursday (March 25) to talk about the judges' save being yanked from her before she even sang and what's next in her career.

Q: Were you upset that the judges took away the save before you sang during the results show? Did that hurt?

A: Yes, it did. I initially thought the save was something that even if they're not going to use it, you'd get the opportunity to at least sing for it, and then they make their decision. But for the statement to be made before I opened my mouth, I was pretty bummed.

Q: How much power do you think the judges have over voters?

A: The judges obviously have a certain amount of power over the voting public, but it also comes down to the performer delivering a good, solid performance. Tuesday night definitely wasn't my best, and they ripped me for it. So it can go both ways, 'cause sometimes, [voters will] back up the person that the judges ripped apart if they feel that that person really delivered, but you never really know how America's gonna vote.

Q: Did you and your fellow contestants discuss how to please the judges?

A: Yeah, the best thing to do, really, is just do yourself and do what makes you most comfortable, because the judges can give mixed messages.

Q: A lot of critics said Miley Cyrus was too young to be a mentor on "American Idol." How do you think she did coaching the contestants?

A: I think Miley did a great job. I mean, I'm 24, so I'm older than her, but talking with her, her age didn't come across at all. I mean, I was just speaking to her as someone else with experience doing exactly what I would like to do, so she was great.

Q: Are you able to still sing with laryngitis? Because you sounded great last night, but your voice sounds really rough this morning.

A: Yeah, it was bad last night [too]. It wasn't as bad as it is now. I've been struggling with laryngitis for over three weeks now. I have swollen vocal cords and there's a lot of inflammation, and with the singing and rehearsing as much as we do, I have very little time for it to heal, so it would basically get a little bit better, [and] then I would have to sing again and it would get worse again. So it's tough when you're in a singing competition and you have no voice. That was a bummer, and that affected my song choice at times, because I would kind of stay away from what I would typically do, like big, belty tunes like [Free's] "All Right Now," which I love and I'm super comfortable at, and I would kind of shy away and try to do something smaller in efforts to not ... do something where I could possibly damage them.

Q: Did you realize how many times "Against All Odds" had been sung on "Idol," and did that affect your decision to sing it?

A: Actually I hadn't realized how many times it had been done. I was in rehearsals last week and was just trying to find a slower song that I wouldn't have to stress vocally too much over, because my vocal cords were pretty much trashed, and I didn't want to do anything too uptempo and crazy, just really trying to take care of my vocal cords if I were to keep going, but I probably should have just picked something I was super comfortable with, which is something like "All Right Now," and just gone for it, but you live and you learn, and I was trying to make a decision for me and my health.

Q: Do you feel that the lack of screen time before the semifinals hurt you?

A: Well, early on, a lot of the kids were able to build a fanbase, whereas I wasn't able to. But still, what you come out there and do on the stage really sets the tone, and if I would have delivered the way I know I could have, maybe I would still be around. So, yes and no.

Q: What did you think about Simon's comment right off the bat that you had the best voice in the competition?

A: I thought it was a pretty awesome comment, so I was happy he said it. I mean, a lot of people didn't know anything about me, they hadn't heard me at all ... so it was nice to hear him say that.

Q: Are there any artists who inspire you or you'd like to model your career after?

A: I wouldn't say necessarily model my career after, 'cause I think what makes an artist great and individual is how their career has kind of ... formed its own shape, which makes them stand out. But I really admire Christina Aguilera. She's a beautiful woman, and she has an amazing voice. She's kind of followed her own drum, which I also really like. She doesn't put out an album every year. She takes her time, and she makes artwork out of her albums. I really admire that about her.

Q: In an interview package, you revealed that coloring relaxes you before a performance. Does that come from being around kids so much?

A: Yeah. We would do it in class, and it was a way to kind of calm down the room. "Idol" is very high-stress and a lot of tension and anxiety, so people usually can't find a way to get their nerves down. If you just open up a coloring book and start coloring, you end up being kind of focused on what you're doing, and it's just a way to relax. Some people do yoga, some meditate, and I like to just whip out a box of crayons and color. [Laughs.] So it's a little cheesy, I know, but it works.

Q: It sounds relaxing!

A: It really is. I can't draw to save my life, but I can color. I can stay in the lines.

Were you sad to see Paige go home? Did you think it was unfair of the judges to take the save away from her before she had the chance to sing? Let us know in the comments!

Singer says latest single was inspired by real-life experiences.

It's not just lyrics — Usher said that when he sang about asking girls to get him girls on the track "Lil Freak," he wasn't just entertaining. The song was inspired by real life.

"Yeah," he laughed when asked if he gets female friends to scout and bring him other females to engage in group fun. "I mean, I wrote about it," he continued. "It happens in this day and time. Those are the best chicks to be friends with, honestly."

"Hey, girl, I see you like that," he sings on the track. "You gettin' excited/ You rockin' like a pro with it, girl/ By the way, you got right on that/ Picked the chick you wanted/ And now you in the corner kissin' on a girl/ I'm about to have a have a ménage with these here ladies/ Look at those freaks at the bar looking for a star."

The video for "Lil Freak" recently premiered and in the clip, Nicki Minaj, rocks a sexy Cruella de Vil hairstyle — half black, half blond. She helps lure a woman into Usher's underground playground.

"The video is freaky," Nicki told MTV News recently about the six-minute-plus clip. "And it's a great concept, a great story line. It felt just like one of the sequels to 'Saw.' It was dope."

"Lil Freak" along with the singles "Papers" and "Hey Daddy (Daddy's Home)" are on Usher's upcoming Raymond v. Raymond, in stores March 30.

Demi Lovato And Joe Jonas Give Their First Interview As A Couple

'The feelings were always there,' Lovato tells Ryan Seacrest.

Fresh off their performance of "Make a Wave" on "American Idol" Wednesday night, Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas gave Ryan Seacrest their first joint interview as a couple on the "Idol" host's radio show.

Of course, Seacrest asked the question on everybody's minds: "Joe, who made your suit?" He was kidding, obviously. (But the answer was Gucci, in case you were wondering.) He actually wanted to know about reports that the couple had officially started dating.

"We've been best friends for the longest time, and now we're just kind of taking the next step, and it's been really fun," Jonas said. "And we're having a great time."

Lovato told Seacrest, "I think being best friends for a while, over time feelings grow. I think for me, as much as I wanted to deny it, the feelings were always there."

"I think it kind of shifted over, like, probably a month ago," Jonas said about their platonic relationship turning romantic. "I think we've always kind of figured that one day it would happen, but we didn't feel like it was the right time."

Lest you think the relationship is a publicity stunt for their new Disney Channel movie, "Camp Rock 2" (out later this year), Jonas and Lovato lovingly gazed into each other's eyes and smiled as Seacrest asked them questions about their budding love.

Check their banter when Seacrest asked if the couple was nervous before their "Idol" performance last night. Seacrest said he couldn't even finish their intro because the crowd was screaming so loud:

"We were looking at each other, and I said, 'Are you nervous?' " Jonas recalled. "And she was like, 'Yeah.' And she was like, 'Are you nervous?' And I was like, 'Um, no,' trying to play it cool."

"I could totally tell you were nervous," Lovato laughed.

"Yeah, I know," he said.

In addition to mocking the distinct laughs of Lovato and one of the show's producers, Seacrest asked Jonas if he could take the time to clear up a rumor making the rounds on Twitter that the JoBro allegedly got a rope burn while working out.

"Rope burn?" Jonas asked. "I work out on the beach. My trainer, we go to the Santa Monica Pier where they have the rings and all that, but I've never tweeted about rope burn. ... I can clarify. I mean, I have really dry skin. Maybe that's what it is. I don't moisturize enough, I guess."

What do you think about the new couple? Did you like their performance on "Idol"? Let us know in the comments!

Cube Guys Hype Up WMC 2010 Crowd With 'Scarface' Sample, Coolio Remix

Their song 'Scarcube,' which samples Al Pacino lines from the movie, is a contender for this year's WMC anthem.
By Adam Stewart

The Cube Guys

The Cube Guys embrace an unmistakable sound that incorporates an eclectic blend of tribal house, electro house, fidget house and many other subgrenes that has consistently kept fans on their toes. The Italian duo first broke into the electronic-music scene back at the Winter Music Conference in 2005 with their club smash "Electro" and have been going strong ever since.

WMC has been a perennial playground for the pair, who spent some time with MTV News after their set this year at Gansevoort Beach at the Stereo Recordings Playa party along with Chus and Ceballos.

The Cube Guys, made up of Roberto Biffi and Luca Provera, dropped a monster anthem to start their set in front of an enthusiastic, bikini-clad crowd. The song, called "Scarcube," is a strong contender for the WMC track of 2010. The deeply sinister electro house track samples iconic Al Pacino lines from the film "Scarface."

"That's a new track from us. It's crazy, because we cut up all the Pacino voices, and we then built all of the tracks on top of it," Provera recalled. "Everywhere we spin it, the people go crazy. They ask, 'What is that? What is that? When is it coming out?' We're so surprised about it, but we love it, and we hope that it will have a good future. 'Scarface' is the Miami movie, so why not?"

The fans packed 20 deep in front of the stage and fully embraced what is sure to become a Miami anthem. They then seamlessly segued into another new release, a huge remix of Coolio's "Fantastic Voyage," giving new life to the song that went double-platinum back in 1994 by putting their signature spin on the classic vocal and incorporating electronic horns and a driving beat. "We officially landed the remix of Coolio with Universal Records, so we're really happy about it!" Provera said.

Other notable points from their set included yet another new single being released, "When I Found Love," with high-flying vocals by house-music veteran Lisa Pure. She took to the front of the stage and added her seductive moves to the song. They closed out their set with a crazed crowd that simply did not want the show to end. Fans were still jamming along to every beat with a spiced-up remix of "The Cure & the Cause" by Fish Go Deep and Tracey K.

If the hotel and concert management didn't kill the speakers and turn up the lights at 9 p.m. sharp, that crowd would still be roaring to a set that will not soon be forgotten. We hope to be hearing more from our European friends in the coming months when their anticipated album finally drops. With the Beachport Party taking over Gansevoort Beach from Friday through Sunday, we'll be sure to keep you up to date on who's dropping what and when.

Ryan Ross Says It's 'Us Versus The World' With The Young Veins

'If you like it, then you do,' he says of new group's debut album.
By James Montgomery

When MTV News last spoke to Ryan Ross, he was in the process of finding a label to release Take a Vacation, the debut disc from his new band the Young Veins.

He was confident that the hunt for a label would be resolved in a matter of weeks and that, finally, the Veins would have something (a single, a video, a tour) to show for all their hard work. Unfortunately, things didn't quite work out that way.

When MTV News spoke to Ross and the Veins at South by Southwest, Vacation still hadn't been released, and their tour was only a few dates old. Yet, to a man — and there are five of them in the band these days — their confidence hadn't waned, and with good reason: After months of searching, they'd finally found a suitable home for their album, which will hit stores on June 8.

"It's coming out on a label called One Haven — it's pretty new. There's only, like, four artists on it now and Butch Walker is one of them," Ross told MTV News. "To be honest, the search for a label was really weird, because some of the labels that you wouldn't expect to care about stuff like radio formats were the ones that did care. They were like, 'Yeah, we love this record, but what are we going to play on the radio?' And I was like, 'You don't have bands on the radio.' "

And the question of format — just where does the Young Veins' crackling, retro-leaning rock fit in the context of today's exceedingly grim radio landscape? — is perhaps the most daunting challenge they face on their road to success. As Ross himself puts it, "I don't know if we fit in at all, actually.

"I don't think there are a lot of bands that sound the way we do, who play the same kind of rock we do," he smiled. "But I don't think there's anything wrong with that at all."

And in statements like that you catch a glimpse of Ross' swagger, the thing that polarizes most fans of his former band, Panic! at the Disco, and has earned him a certain, uh, reputation among those in the industry. It's very much alive in the Young Veins' music too. After all, Vacation gleefully — and some might say, stubbornly — flies in the face of most modern-rock axioms. It clocks in at just a hair under 30 minutes. The songs pop and hiss and are totally free of today's studio sheen. It was made on the fly, on the cheap and practically on the lam. It is very much a labor of love, made for (and by) a very select group of retro-rock fanatics. Ross said that was the most important aspect — he wanted to get his friends together in a house and just make a record they'd all love. He's not worried what Panic! fans — or the record-buying public, for that matter — will think of the tunes. All of that will take care of itself.

"The record's out in early June, and after that, who knows? Some of the kids don't seem to like it, and they don't get it, and that's fine, I understand," he said. "There's definitely a sense of 'us versus the world' with this band. We all sort of see it as we're all in this together. And we're all really happy about the music we're doing, so it's kind of worth it. I don't like to say, 'Hey, we're really good. Check this out.' If you like it, then you do. We're definitely working way harder than we ever have."

Are you excited to hear Ryan's new music? Do you think it will appeal to Panic! fans? Let us know in the comments!

'Hills' Fans Want Lauren Conrad Back, Speidi Breakup In Final Season

Fans agree that Heidi 'can do a lot better' than Spencer; 'The Hills: Final Season' premieres April 27 on MTV.

While Kristin Cavallari and Lo Bosworth have weighed in on what they want to see happen in the final season of "The Hills," premiering April 27, it seems that fans have two very specific ideas for what they want to see in the final 12 episodes: Lauren Conrad needs to return, and Speidi need to break up.

"I'd like to see more drama between the castmembers and new locations," Shelby told MTV News, with her friend Julia adding, "I'd also like to see Heidi and Lauren. ... If they're friends anymore or if they, like, get into a big, huge catfight."

It seems that getting LC to return is pretty high on most "Hills" fans' wish lists. "I would like to see Lauren come back on the show," Ally said. "She's my favorite. She's so cute and pretty and sweet. That's pretty much all I would really, really want to happen." Olivia added: "I'd still like to know what she's up to."

And while a lot of fans want LC back, other fans want Speidi to go their separate ways. "Heidi and Spencer [should] break up," Holly and her pal Charity agreed. "I don't really like it. She can do better." Meredith explained why she'd like to see the show's most infamous pair call it quits: "I think Heidi and Spencer should break up because he's a jerk."

"I think she can do a lot better," Erin added. "I think he's making her do a lot of bad things."

Chantelle had the perfect way to make all the fans happy: "Lauren needs to come back and maybe have a little affair with Spencer," she proposed.

What do you want to see happen in the final season of "The Hills"? Should LC come back? Should Speidi part ways? Tell us in the comments!

"The Hills: Final Season" premieres April 27 at 10 p.m. ET/PT followed by "The City" at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
