Justin Bieber is hard at work promoting his new LP, My World 2.0, this week, with appearances on "The View" and "The Late Show With David Letterman" on Tuesday (March 23, the day of his album's release) and he's performing at Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice Awards on Saturday. But on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. ET, fans can get a behind-the-scenes look at what it's like to be Justin Bieber in MTV's special, "The Diary of Justin Bieber."

In a new sneak peek from the special, Bieber performs his single "Baby " at a radio station while wearing a winter hat. He then performs the song for a crowd of girls in an intimate setting — they knew every word as he told the crowd to "bounce, bounce." And finally, he performs it in front of a bigger crowd, where he also tells the audience to bounce, gets up close with them, and finally causes a frenzy by tossing his baseball cap into the crowd.

In another clip, Bieber is seen playing guitar and singing his My World song "Favorite Girl" to a crowd that knows every word. In a previously released sneak peek, Bieber is seen in France talking to a reporter about singing love songs at such a young age, explaining that people of virtually any age experience it.

"It's weird when people say, 'You're only 15,' because I know I am only 15, but at the same time I think at any age you can experience love. Whether you're 80 or 5, you're always gonna ... I don't know. There's a difference between love and being in love because you can love someone but not necessarily be in love. So I think I've loved girls, but I don't know — I haven't been in love before."

MTV News will be rolling out previews from "The Diary of Justin Bieber" all week — don't miss the full show, airing on MTV Sunday at 7:30 p.m. ET!

She promises to bring lots of energy to the dance floor as one of the new contestants on the 10th season of "Dancing with the Stars" — but Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger, who has an extensive dance background, admitted that she's scared of one castmember this year: Pam Anderson.

"Talk about dance experience," she told MTV News. "She is just fierce to me. I'm scared of her, actually. She is the one. I don't know if I'll be able to take her down but she's going to be hot and sizzling. She's gonna do her thing."

Scherzinger herself has also made quite a career out of being sexy, but fans tuning in week after week expecting Scherzinger to turn up the hotness for the show may be surprised — that's not her thing this season. "Not at all! I will leave the sexy part to Pamela Anderson! Because she's the hottest chick out there," she gushed. "For one, I never tried to be sexy or anything — for me the music's what brings out that sensuality. I'm just gonna be myself."

Not only will Nicole be Nicole, she also plans to just have a good time while out there with partner Derek Hough. "[I'm] just gonna have fun with it. In the show I'll be able to connect with everyone in a completely different light.

"With this show, I feel like people are so used to seeing me in a certain light — they think they know me, but they don't," she added. "I just want to connect with everyone out there in a completely different way. I'm gonna have a lot of fun."

Do you think Nicole should be scared of Pam? Who do you think will win "Dancing With the Stars"? Tell us in the comments!

Snoop Dogg Has 'Believable' Superpower In 'Malice N Wonderland' Movie

Snoop Dogg is re-releasing his Malice N Wonderland album as a two-part project, a suite of new music and a pre-packaged movie, which, according to the veteran rapper, will help explain the concept behind the collection. Snoop told MTV News last week that More Malice, featuring new collaborations with Jay-Z and Kid Cudi, should provide fans with more than enough Snoop.

"I like to be very creative. I like to give people all of Snoop Dogg when I give them an album," he said. "I felt like on the [Malice N Wonderland] record, I didn't give all of Snoop Dogg like I really could have. I had to make the record be about 12 songs and conceptually stick to the script as opposed to what I normally do with 20 to 21 songs on the album and overdose people. So what I did [on More Malice] was, I pulled back from the music and put a little more thought in the creative side as far as the visual aspects."

In addition to the slate of new tracks, Snoop recruited Jamie Foxx, comedian Michael Collier and upstart MC Nipsey Hussle for the "Malice N Wonderland" movie; Snoop plays Malice and eventually makes it from his unruly surroundings to Wonderland, the same concept as the album. During his movie journey, Snoop has a lone superpower: the ability to control things with his hands.

"I'm able to deflect bullets and cause a great range of sound that can blow your eardrums out," he said. "You know, I can just do many different things, whatever I want to do with my hands. This is the power that I wanted that people could identify with that wasn't so farfetched, like me flying through the sky or going through a building. That's just kind of hard to believe, but the way I got it, it's believable."

The California MC has had success in Hollywood throughout his musical career, from roles in "Starsky & Hutch" and "Bones" to "Baby Boy."

"I like playing different characters that are diverse, that are farfetched from your imagination to where you feel like, 'Only Snoop Dogg can do that,' " he said. "When I played Huggie Bear [in 'Starsky'], it was like a natural fit for me. When I played Bones, it was like a stretch for me. When I played in 'Baby Boy,' it was like something I should've been doing. So I tried to do things that throw you for a loop, but at the same time, when you see them, you say, 'Wow, only Snoop Dogg could do it.' And I felt like this was the perfect look for me right now."

Snoop will host a star-studded premiere for "Malice N Wonderland" on Monday (March 22) at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.

Game Recruits RZA, Dr. Dre For R.E.D. Album All-Star Production Cast

Game said he got just about everybody he wanted for his upcoming The R.E.D. Album — he has some of the finest tracks featuring guests from all over the hip-hop hemisphere.

"I feel great about this album," he said recently after going over tracks at Dr. Dre's house. "It's back full-force Aftermath and I'm conjoined with Star Trak." (Pharrell Williams is one of the LP's executive producers.) "I got this colorful movement over here where it's beautiful music on this side [with Star Trak] — then when I need to go dark or super grown and sexy, I got Dre over here. The combination is crazy — mixed in with a Cool & Dre track and RZA track and all the sh-- I been doing. The only person I'm upset I didn't work with on this album is DJ Premier. I feel his sh-- would have been perfect for this all-star producer cast that I have. One Premier track would have did me just fine. I would have murdered that sh--. But we ain't get it in, 'cause he was doing a whole bunch of sh-- for Christina Aguilera. I'm just Game. So I gotta just wait for the next album."

The Compton MC said he lets the fans know from the start of the album that he's not playing.

"They got the intro to the album, which is titled 'Infrared,' " Game said of Cool & Dre. "It's one of them joints that Shaheem is gonna love. All the real hip-hop fans, to hear me rap, how I'm rapping on my intro, it's gonna f--- people up. Before you get to #2, you gonna already know I'm serious. I'm spitting. I go in. I done played this for RZA, Dre, Pharrell — all the people who heard this is like, 'N---a, that's crazy!' I haven't spit like I'm spitting on the intro since '300 Bars.' I touched every topic. Everything involving me, I touched."

We'll get a prelude to Game's work with Cool & Dre on a song called "Shake," as it's one of the highlights on his upcoming Gangsta Grillz mixtape with DJ Drama, All Red Everything. Game tells a mayhem-filled story over the beat that incorporates the looped word "shake" throughout.

" 'Shake' is bad, man," Game said. " 'Shake' is crazy. Cool & Dre brought it in and I went through the 'shakes.' I told the story, cutting myself off right before the 'shake' came in [on the track]. I didn't write none of that down. I went in and said the whole sh-- straight through.

"You know what it is about them?" he asked about Cool & Dre. "They are more like my brothers. I can go in with the any moment and make a song. The streets is gonna f--- with it."

Matthew McConaughey Invites MTV News Into The Studio With Mishka

Posted: 23 Mar 2010 03:51 AM PDT

Reggae singer's second album with the actor-turned-producer, Talk About, hit iTunes on Tuesday.
By Matt Elias

In late December, Matthew McConaughey and Mishka were holed up in a cozy studio in Santa Monica, California, putting the finishing touches on a new album by Mishka, the first artist signed to McConaughey's J.K. Livin' label. The duo offered MTV News a rare glimpse into the recording process, allowing us to document the actual session — not just a re-creation of what they did before our cameras arrived.

The guys were laying down the final track of the album, "Stars Will Be Shining," a fitting title for the journey that connected Mishka and McConaughey in the first place. In a truly "stars were aligned" kind of story, McConaughey heard Mishka's music while vacationing in Jamaica in 1999. The actor liked Mishka's brand of roots reggae-meets-folk rock so much that he made several attempts to contact the musician, to no avail.

"I kinda had an APB out looking for anything Mishka," McConaughey recalled. "A guy in my office said, 'There's a guy named Mishka that's at the House of Blues here in Hollywood, so we'll go see if it's him.' "

It turned out to be him, and the duo began their relationship — both personal and professional (McConaughey launched his music label solely to get Mishka's music to the masses). McConaughey joked that the artist had no idea who he was until Mishka's wife remembered seeing him on TV from time to time.

McConaughey grinned: "Yeah, I'm on TV sometimes."

And with McConaughey's help, Mishka had his time to shine on TV too — with appearances on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" and "The Rachael Ray Show." He also found success with the 2009 album Above the Bones, landing at #1 on Billboard's reggae chart and earning iTunes' Best New Artist honor.

That album was McConaughey's first venture as a music producer, and he continues that role on the new LP, Talk About, due Tuesday (March 23) on iTunes and March 30 in stores. McConaughey sees a lot of similarities between his day job and producing music — something he clearly gets a kick out of.

"It's very similar to making movies. It's very similar to telling a story," McConaughey said. "That's what's really neat about it. Maybe it's a different vocabulary, but each song's its own story. Each song kind of has their own three-act structure. ... We start with a tease, then intro everybody, take it high, climax, pull off, give it a rest and then leave them wanting a little bit more."

McConaughey admits that he's still learning the lingo — "When in doubt, I'll throw 'legato' out there every 10 minutes," he joked — but he's not on his own. The album is also co-produced by Butch Walker, who boasts pop/punk producing credits with Fall Out Boy, Weezer and many others. While Mishka's mellow genre is not usually on Walker's radar, the veteran producer said reggae is not as scientific as producing a pop record. In other words, it doesn't take as much tinkering and editing.

That was the vibe when we visited the studio that day: an easygoing group making sun-drenched music, just in time for those lazy summer days.

Kristen Stewart, Perez Hilton, Patrick Stump Pick Favorite SXSW Artists

Posted: 22 Mar 2010 03:27 AM PDT

Band of Horses, Yelawolf, Marina & the Diamonds, Jonna Lee are among the picks.

Well, another South By Southwest is in the books. And, if you're like us, you've probably got tinnitus, alcohol poisoning and the gout (i.e. the SXSW Hat Trick), not to mention an unwavering desire to do it all again next year.

Because no matter how hard you hit SXSW, you can never quite hit it hard enough. There are always bands you didn't get to see, parties you didn't get to attend, amazing moments on Sixth Street that you missed because your friend was busy getting arrested. And while we could sit here and list off a dozen of those things, we figured it would be better to let some SXSW movers and shakers do it instead: "Twilight" saga star Kristen Stewart (at the conference to promote "The Runaways" film), celebrity blogger Perez Hilton (who hosted a showcase featuring Snoop Dogg, Hole and more), Fall Out Boy frontman Patrick Stump (who performed his debut solo set) and DJ/ M.I.A. collaborator/ Major Lazer member Diplo. These are some of the fest's biggest names, filling you in on some of their favorites from a very long week of music and madness. And remember, there's always next year!

Kristen Stewart
"[Dakota Fanning] and I went to go see Band of Horses and Broken Social Scene. She left right before Broken Social Scene played, and they brought out the chick from Metric and oh my God — it felt very South by Southwest-y. It's really crazy driving around here. The streets are loaded with really cool-looking people — and really loaded people, too! It was weird that they happened to be playing that night, because it was the first night we were here. And everyone was like, 'Oh, you need to go see a show,' and Band of Horses happen to my favorite band right now ... I was very excited. I'm planning on seeing Johnny Flynn too, because he is a mutual friend. South by Southwest is so cool, because it's actually so chill and not intimidating. Usually, music festivals aren't this way. As you're approaching the city, you can hear the music. And from my hotel room, you can hear music, and it hasn't stopped."

Perez Hilton
"[Apart from] some of the bands that were playing my party ... the highlight of the week for me has definitely been Marina & the Diamonds and Alphabeat, they were both great. There was an artist named Lissie who I really loved, performance-wise and vocally, her voice is amazing. I think she's better than her material — I don't like the songs as much. I liked Miike Snow a lot too. The worst, by far, was JJ. It was insulting as an audience member, how bad they were. This girl just stood there with her head down. It was almost like — I remember I saw Cat Power play once, and it was like she was having a nervous breakdown, her hair was covering her face ... same thing, like she didn't want to be there. Which is why when I saw Marina & the Diamonds it was so refreshing, because not only is she a great musician, she loves entertaining. And that's important."

Patrick Stump
"I really want to see Javelin, because I'm interested to see if it's going to be a rocking live show or not. It's one of those things where, after you play music live for such a long time, you kind of lose the zeal to see a lot of live shows. I want to see Jonna Lee, because of those [Iamamiwhoami] videos [which Lee is rumored to be behind]. They're genius. And whether or not it's her, I want to see her because of those videos."

Diplo (DJ, M.I.A. collaborator, Major Lazer bandmember)
"Sleigh Bells are friends of mine, I like them. PoPo are amazing, like a garage-punk, kinda-electronic Pakistani band. Yelawolf is killing it. All the kids knew his lyrics. He's amazing."

'Dancing With The Stars' Returns With Plenty Of Talent And Tears

Nicole Scherzinger earns top marks and Buzz Aldrin hits the low point in the dance competition's premiere.

Astronauts, athletes, actresses and more — if nothing else, the cast for the 10th season of "Dancing With the Stars" is diverse, and thankfully, they're also filled with plenty of promise, judging by their first performances in a season premiere filled with laughs, tears and dropped jaws.

Kicking the season off was NFL star Chad Ochocinco and partner Cheryl Burke with the cha-cha-cha, a dance Burke described as "fun and flirty, just like [Ochocinco]." Returning judges Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Anne Inaba all agreed Ochocinco has great potential, with Goodman describing him as "a rough diamond" waiting to be sharpened. With a score of 18 out of 30, Ochocinco told new co-host and former "Dancing With the Stars" champion Brooke Burke that he felt good on the dance floor but still has "a long way to go."

Following Ochocinco was "Beverly Hills, 90210" veteran Shannen Doherty and partner Mark Ballas. Doherty revealed that she joined the show in support of her father, who is currently recovering from a stroke. Despite her best intentions, the actress was a self-described nervous wreck, but Ballas jokingly promised that he'd keep her nerves down and have antihistamine on hand. The pair, like Ochocinco and Burke, earned an 18 out of 30 but received compliments from the judges for showing "ease and elegance" in their performance of the Viennese Waltz. After the dance, Doherty tearfully said the proud expression on her father's face was all she needed to feel accomplished.

ESPN host Erin Andrews took the stage next alongside the outspoken Maksim Chmerkovskiy, who chastised Andrews during rehearsal: "My only pleasure in life is to bitch at people, and you're taking it away!" Performing the cha-cha-cha, Andrews received a strong 21 out of 30, despite some criticism for lack of control over her arm and leg movements.

Fresh off the heels of his stint on "The Bachelor," Jake Pavelka traded in his rose for a pair of dance shoes alongside partner Chelsie Hightower, who said Jake would get a lot of votes from the female audience because "he's hot." The judges were torn on Jake's performance, with Inaba saying he worked romance into his dance, while Bruno argued he was too rough. Despite the disagreement, Jake waltzed away with an admirable 20 out of 30.

"Reno 911" star Niecy Nash, the next competitor, made it a point to flaunt her "jiggly parts" with the following mission statement: "I want to be the nice, thick, grown woman that stands in the front, not the chubby girl that sits in the back." Alongside partner Louis Van Amstel, Nash impressed Inaba with a lot of sass and personality, but Goodman wasn't as kind, going so far as to call the dance an uneventful and "flat" cha-cha-cha. Nash walked away with 18 out of 30, dedicating her performance to "thick girls everywhere."

Without the aid of his trademark ice skates, Olympic gold medalist Evan Lysacek braved the dance floor with his partner Anna Trebunskaya. Lysacek acknowledged that his experience as a skater could prove beneficial, but he had trouble acclimating to certain spin styles during rehearsal. Even with these difficulties acknowledged, Lysacek scored the second-best result of the evening with 23 out of 30. Goodman praised the skater for his musicality and elegance but agreed with the other judges that he needed to work on his "clumsy feet."

Lysacek's clumsy feet were hardly problematic compared to world-renowned astronaut Buzz Aldrin's own difficulties. Although Aldrin received loving tributes from colleagues in space, all three judges agreed that the spacewalker's moves needed some work. "How can I possibly criticize a hero and a legend, but I have to do my job," Tonioli offered before he and the judges bestowed Aldrin with a 14 out of 30, the lowest score of the evening. Aldrin accepted the result gracefully, declaring: "I'm looking forward to the future."

The lowest-ranked performance of the evening was swiftly followed by the highest, as Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger and partner Derek Hough blew the judges away with their Viennese Waltz. Tonioli described the performance as having "startling finesse," while Inaba said Scherzinger and Hough set the bar for the rest of season 10. Goodman was much less impressed, telling Scherzinger she needed to work on her finesse. Despite the criticism, the pair managed an impressive 25 out of 30, the best score of the night.

If Scherzinger set the bar for the competition, "All My Children" actor Aiden Turner completely missed it. Along with partner Edyta Sliwinska, who finished in last place during last season's competition, Turner failed to impress the judges with his cha-cha-cha set to the tune of "Hungry Like the Wolf." Inaba enjoyed Turner's approach and bravado but felt he and his partner didn't hit the mark. "I gave it my all," he sighed after receiving a score of 15 out of 30. "The crowd had my back, but it's nerve-racking out there."

Kate Gosselin, tabloid target and mother of eight, was the next star to grace the dance floor with longtime "Dancing With the Stars" competitor Tony Dovolani. Performing the Viennese Waltz, Gosselin revealed that her eight children laughed at her when they found out she'd be performing in the dancing competition. The judges didn't join Gosselin's eight in mocking the reality star, but they did acknowledge that she would have her work cut out for her in order to go deep into the contest. Gosselin left the stage with 16 out of 30, declaring that while she feels honored to be part of the series, she's equally "glad that it's over and glad that my kids can rest easy tonight."

Finishing the first night of competition was "Baywatch" actress Pamela Anderson and partner Damian Whitewood with the cha-cha-cha. True to her reputation, Anderson performed aggressively and sexually with Whitewood, tearing his shirt open midway into the dance and chewing on his hand afterward. "I can only think of sex, sex, sex, the dirtier the better," assessed Tonioli before he and the judges gifted Anderson with a final score of 21 out of 30.

Because the votes and scores will be combined with next week's results, none of the 11 dancers are in imminent danger of expulsion from the dance competition. While there were certainly some fits and starts, nearly every competitor exhibited an enviable amount of enthusiasm, personality and, in many cases, skill. Without a doubt, this season of "Dancing With the Stars" will be one to watch.

On Sunday at 7:30 p.m. ET, fans can get a behind-the-scenes look at what it's like to be Justin Bieber in MTV's special, "The Diary of Justin Bieber." In the meantime, this preview of the special, filmed last month while the singer was in France promoting his album My World 2.0 — which comes out tomorrow — he speaks to a reporter from his hotel room about how he finds inspiration for his love songs at such a young age (he turned 16 earlier this month).

"It's weird when people say, 'You're only 15,' because I know I am only 15, but at the same time I think at any age you can experience love. Whether you're 80 or 5, you're always gonna ... I don't know. There's a difference between love and being in love because you can love someone but not necessarily be in love. So I think I've loved girls, but I don't know — I haven't been in love before.

Bieber allows that he first found love at an even earlier age. "I was 13," he says, before mentioning Ludacris, who collaborated with him on the song "Baby." "Luda says [in the song] he was 13 [when he first found love]."

In another scene, Bieber is at an indoor basketball court goofing around, dribbling the ball. Before he leaves, he decides to try his hand at sinking a basket from half court.

"Last shot of the day, this is how we do it," he says. And, almost flawlessly, he sinks the ball. "Boom! I'm out. Yes! That's how a real basketball player plays!"

Drake's "Over," the lead offering from his Thank Me Later debut, has already won the support of DJs, but the Toronto MC has another track on deck, featuring The-Dream, that's long been rumored to be his first single.

An unfinished version of the song, a slow-winding number called "Shut It Down," leaked online over the weekend.

"[It's] a great-sounding record," The-Dream told MTV News recently. "He wrote an incredible record and allowed me to feature on this record. Beautifully written, and the guys that did the track [producers Omen and 40 made a] great track."

On "Shut It Down," Drake and Dream take turns wooing females and professing their appreciation for their beauty.

"Shut it down, down, down, down," Drake sings. "You would shut it down, be the baddest girl around, 'round, 'round, and they know this."

The song hit the Web not long after "Over" premiered March 4 on a local radio station in Toronto and then on the singer/rapper's blog. He recently shot a video for the track in Los Angeles with director Anthony Mandler.

The-Dream said his "Shut It Down" collabo with Drake came about organically. "I don't know how these things just, you know, they just happen," the songwriter explained. "You get a call and you are in there doing the record, and it just happens, man. There are so many things going on right now with me, I don't even know what's happening tomorrow. There may be somebody waiting outside for a guest appearance."

What do you think of "Shut It Down" and "Over"? Who else would you like to see Drake work with for Thank Me Later? Let us know in the comments below!
