Those "Twilight" ladies may have just kept her out of the top spot on our Woman of the Year list (don't worry, she also made our Teen Queens Who Ruled 2008 list), but it will be all about Miley Cyrus come New Year's eve. The tween mogul will help MTV close the door on this eventful year when she headlines "FNMTV Presents: A Miley-Sized Surprise ... New Year's Eve 2009."

The show will air live from 8 p.m. till 9:30 p.m. ET with live performances from Cyrus, Metro Station, All Time Low, The Academy Is ... and Kevin Rudolf.

There will, of course, also be a live countdown from Times Square during a rebroadcast of the show at 10:30 p.m., but the real action will be broadcast from the house of one lucky fan, where host Cyrus will give a special performance in his/her bedroom. The "Hannah Montana" star will surprise the fan earlier in the day and spend the afternoon hanging out with them, visiting their friends and helping their favorite charity. Miley will also dropping some serious gifts and treats on the unsuspecting fan all through the evening, during which Metro Station will also set up in their bedroom, while the other artists will perform from MTV's Times Square studio.

The show will be hosted from New York by twin Australian singers Lisa and Jessica Origliasso, a.k.a. the Veronicas. All during the night, MTV and Pepsi will encourage viewers to type into a live text-to-screen dialogue about how they plan to refresh themselves and the world in 2009. People in Times Square can text NYE to 66333 to submit messages that may appear on MTV 44 1/2 (MTV's high-definition Times Square screen), and TV viewers can text CHANGE to 66333 for the chance to see their comments appear on a crawl at the bottom of the television programming throughout MTV's New Year's Eve shows.

MTV will also upload select clips from NYE programming as mobile video to all carrier partners as well as photo galleries, MTV News coverage and Remote Control blog coverage on the MTV mobile Internet site at m.mtv.com. MTV.com will feature photos, clips, and performances, including two performances from the night that won't be seen anywhere else.

Best Albums Of 2008: An Answer To Your Call For More Britney Spears

Our brave columnist responds to the haters ... and to a few friendly comments as well.

Well, I asked for it.

In this week's Best Albums of 2008 column, I attempted to head off the "WHERE'S BRITNEY?!?!?" posse at the pass by asking them to explain to me just why Brit's Circus album deserved to be included in my list. Was it that good? Was I missing something? Seriously, please explain it to me.

Of course, no one ever did explain, but that doesn't mean that the story didn't generate plenty of other really great comments. OK, there were only about four "really great" ones, plus a bunch of ALL CAPS replies that could generously be described as "grammatically adventurous." And one dude just posted "Britney #1" 12 times.

Still, I asked for your feedback, and I got it. A lot of it. It seemed that many of you were angered by my top album picks, while others seemed confused by why certain albums didn't make the cut (and a few of you were actually complimentary too). So, in the interest of keeping the conversation going, I decided to answer some of your comments. Just consider it a little pre-holiday gift from yours truly. (Or another way to generate Web traffic. You know, whichever.)

"Where's Madonna's Hard Candy???? Why MTV hates her so much??" — dirty_boy94

Well, to be honest, I didn't include Madonna's Hard Candy on my list because I didn't think it was that good. It wasn't because I hate Madonna (I only hate Britney ... I kid, I kid!), or because of some company-wide conspiracy, it just boiled down to my opinion. Aside from "4 Minutes" and "Give It 2 Me," I don't think there's much substance to the album — I mean, "Candy Shop" is cringe-worthy, IMHO — and, in fact, I'd go ahead and say it's probably my least favorite Maddy album since American Life. So, you know, agree to disagree, I guess.

"NO BEYONCE OR RIHANNA OR BRITNEY OR EVEN HELL...WTF THIS IS ********. NO BEYONCE R U INSANE HER ALBUM IS THE BEST SINCE THRILLER HELL....STOP AND LISTEN TO IT" — MizterBeyonceHimself

Last week, I named Beyoncé's "Single Ladies" as the second-best song of 2008. Katy Perry had two songs on that list too, so I definitely gave both some shine. But, wow, I'll have to disagree with you about the Thriller thing. I don't think I Am ... Sasha Fierce is even the best Beyoncé album. It's too long and too convoluted. But "Single Ladies" is great. To be honest, I didn't even hear Katy Perry's entire album. Why would I need to?

"Huge props for having Kanye's 808s & Heartbreak higher than Tha Carter III, with 'Ye at 4 and Weezy at the bottom of the list. ...You have great taste, my friend. So many of those dumb hip-hop fans could grab a huge appreciation for pop music and said it was crap without really listening to it. ... 808s is my favorite of the year by far, and I'm glad it is one of yours too!" — Obama08

Thanks! And I voted for you, too! How about a cabinet position?

My personal favorite albums this year: I Am ... Sasha Fierce — Beyoncé, Tha Carter IIILil Wayne, Paper TrailT.I., E=MC2Mariah Carey, and FreedomAkon." — DjBaps

Some solid picks, especially the T.I. album. I got a ton of comments from readers asking why I left Paper Trail off my list and, like I said in my video response, it was basically because I liked a couple of other hip-hop albums more this year. Young Jeezy's The Recession, The Roots' Rising Down and maybe even Nappy Roots' The Humdinger were better albums to me, and I would've put them on my list before I put Paper Trail on there. If I did a top 50, T.I. would definitely make the cut, though.

"Kanye Top 5, that crap was garbage. Where is The Odd Couple by Gnarls Barkley? Brandy's Human? Santogold? Lady Gaga's The Fame? — markmanuell18

Again, solid picks. Santo's album should've totally made my list (Estelle's Shine probably should've been on there too). I wasn't a huge fan of the Gnarls Barkley album (I just thought it was kind of boring), but I saw it pop up on some year-end lists, so maybe I should've given it more consideration. At the end of the day, this list basically boiled down to "What did I listen to the most this year?" And while I did try to factor in critical reception and cultural impact (just like my Best Songs column), in the end, the play count on my iPod was usually the deciding factor.

"MTV PLEASE FIRE THIS DUDE!! ISNT THE AGE LIMIT LIKE 30 ANYWAY, THIS GUY LOOKS 36" — Lilplayboii

I am 47, so thank you!

"MTV please fire this guy. His opinion sucks. He does not even care about Britney Spears or Pink or Rihanna not even Taylor Swift! James u suck!!! Go die is a hole!" — TriniBrent

I named both Rihanna and Taylor Swift as Women of the Year earlier this week. Taylor was #3, so I do care about them. Deeply. Plus, Rihanna didn't put out a new album this year (just a reissue), so she couldn't have made the cut for the Best Albums of '08.

Great list, James. A very eclectic mix, really covered the floor. Had some records I hadn't really checked out that I'll be looking into soon (Deerhunter and TV on the Radio). I went ahead and made a top 10 list a few weeks ago. We had a lot of same records, but some I'd recommend for you to check out are Thrice's Alchemy Index, Vol. 3 & 4, Anthony Green's Avalon and City and Colour's Bring Me Your Love. — Christos

Thank you, yes, check out Deerhunter, they're sooo good. Also, I have a long and checkered past with Thrice. Seems like tons of people (especially those on AbsolutePunk.net) really, really dig them. I've just never been able to get behind them. But I've heard some good things about their Alchemy Index series, so I'll give them one last chance, I suppose.

"Nice list but where is Duffy and Adele??? and Jack Johnson???" — BeatRock243

I could never get into that Duffy album, for a couple of reasons: One, when I was filming "FNMTV" this summer, she performed on an episode, and she was, uh, how do I put this? Lousy (I documented the whole incident in a column back in August). Two, she looks like my sister-in-law. To be fair, I haven't really listened to Adele's 19, though I saw in a piece on "CBS News Sunday Morning" that she just moved to my neighborhood in Brooklyn, so I probably owe it to her to check it out. Also, growing up in Florida — and being surrounded by braying Jack Johnson fans — let's just say I am diametrically opposed to the man.

"This James guy is really getting annoying, how about actually putting together a list based on sales and numbers, and then post it on MTV, not your own personal list that no one could careless [sic] about." — Miami20

I already did! I already did!

"James, why do you keep writing these articles and titling them under the assumption that these are MTV's picks?? Why not title as YOUR picks? YOUR picks do not mean that these are the 25 best albums of 2008. I thought you were a professional rock and roll journalist?? You should've titled 'My 25 album picks for 2008.' Not 'The best 25 of the year.' Again, these are YOUR personal picks. I don't even know some of these albums." — DKFAN

Well, OK, I ... [Loses will to live. Slams head against keyboard repeatedly. There is blood everywhere.]

Seriously, we do still want to hear from you. Share your favorite stories, albums and artists of 2008 by uploading a video to YouRHere.MTV.com or leaving a comment below.

Jermaine Dupri wants to clear up some misconceptions. The biggest one is yet another report that his long-time girlfriend is pregnant: Not true, he says.

The second is that the couple has broken up: again, not true.

Dupri took the unusual move of publicly denying these two rumors — the first of which started when Life & Style magazine recently ran a cover story whose headline read "Janet Jackson Tells Friends: Yes, I'm "Pregnant!" — by blogging about them on Thursday.

"As you all know Janet is a very private person. The only reason you see her as much as you do on my YouTube vlog is because of me LOL," Dupri wrote. 'But I hear y'all and your questions. So here you have it ... No, she is not pregnant and yes, we're still together. It baffles me how y'all let these blogs and magazines control your lifes [sic]. That's why I created global14.com, so when ever hear sh-- about me you can come right here and get the truth."

While rumors about the couple's reported splits have bubbled up repeatedly over the years, the whispers about Jackson's alleged pregnancy intensified in October when Jackson postponed a number of dates on her Rock Witchu Tour. Some of the dates were later made up, with Jackson's doctors saying they recommended she take time off to deal with a bout of migrane-associated vertigo.

U2 To Release New Album, No Line On The Horizon, In March

After postponing release to record more tracks, group is set to drop 12th studio album.

U2 have locked down a date for one of the first big releases of 2009. The veteran rockers have announced that they will drop their 12th album, No Line on the Horizon on March 2.

The CD, which was originally expected for release this year, is the follow-up to 2004's 9 million-selling How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb. It was produced by a trio of the band's longtime collaborators, Brian Eno, Steve Lillywhite and Daniel Lanois.

Sessions for the set began in Fez, Morocco, in 2007 and continued into 2008 with tracks recorded in U2's Dublin studios, then in New York and wrapping up recently in London. Rick Rubin had produced some material for the group at one point in the process, but apparently those sessions will not appear on the final album.

After reportedly recording more than 50 songs, the band said they felt they needed a few more before they were done with the project, according to Interscope/ Geffen/ A&M chairman Jimmy Iovine. "I met with the guys in U2, and they say to me, 'You know what? This album needs two more songs, and it will be exactly what we have in mind.' I go there and I listen, and I agreed with them," Iovine told Billboard in November. "It's a great record, but it deserves the time. Labels need to work with artists to help them achieve their best work, not to jam records out that are half-baked or three-quarters baked."

The first single has not yet been announced, but the U2 Web site reported in early November that the group were "holed up in a warehouse on the outskirts of London" shooting a video with director Alex Courtes (White Stripes, Daft Punk), who also lensed the clips for the songs "Vertigo" and "City of Blinding Lights" from Atomic Bomb. "Performing a brand-new song, the band worked on the shoot from late morning till late night," the post reported. "The elegantly mustachioed Courtes directing proceedings on the green stage. We are sworn to secrecy on the finer details of the shoot ... but there may have been some marching girls involved. With their boots on."

Billboard reported that the album is expected to feature the title track, as well as the songs "Moment of Surrender" and "Unknown Caller."

No Line on the Horizon will be the first album from U2 since they signed a 12-year multi-million dollar deal with mega-promoter Live Nation earlier this year, under which the company handles the band's merchandising, Web site and branding rights, but does not release their music. Live Nation was forced to take a $19 million loss earlier this week, Forbes.com reported, when the group sold back some shares in the company, which the promoter had to buy according to terms stipulated in the band's deal.

U2 plan to tour on the album in 2009.
