NEW YORK — While his band and DJ Drama took a break, T.I. stood in S.I.R. Studios, practicing for a dance battle with Chris Brown.

"That's exactly what I'm doing," the always cool King of the South joked before busting out a few moves.

Tip's friend C. Breezy has nothing to worry about. The playful choreography isn't that great. What Tip was really rehearsing for was his musical performance on "Saturday Night Live" this weekend.

"We just putting on the hits, baby," he said with a smile when asked to reveal his set list. " ... The good ones."

MTV News did walk in on him going through "Whatever You Like." For the other song he'll be rapping, check out "SNL."

Tip and his band might be heading out on a tour come 2009. Ludacris and Young Jeezy have both told MTV News they would be willing to do a huge outing with the Rubber Band Man. T.I. agreed that it would be great.

"I'm definitely down to do it," Tip said of the tour. "Those are definitely two people who are up there when you talk about Southern performers. I'm definitely open to do it. We just gotta figure out what makes the most sense as far as getting it done."

"First of the year" would be the Atlanta native's ideal launch date, with the trek lasting a couple of months.

One person from Atlanta you probably won't see on that A-Town tour is Shawty Lo. Lo's camp and members of T.I.'s Grand Hustle clique got into a couple of scuffles during last week's Dirty Awards in Atlanta. During the first altercation — which happened before T.I. even got in the venue — chairs went airborne. During the second scuffle, fists and pepper spray went flying. In between the chaos, T.I. and Shawty Lo actually had a closed-door meeting about quashing their differences.

"We spoke," Tip said. "I don't know what that conversation meant. Shortly after we spoke ... I felt that that conversation, those words, weren't upheld. It was just a lot of nonsense. There's no place in my life for that. There was a time in my life where I wanted no more than to indulge in that kind of activity. I went around looking for it, welcoming it. Now, I just done blown way past that. There's no place in my life for it. What I told him really was, 'I'm not trippin'.' "

Tip and Lo have been going back-and-forth on record for more than a year, mainly over Lo's jabs that Tip really isn't from the 'hood he claims to be from: Bankhead.

"It's been over for me," Tip said. "I'm looking way past this. I got way too much stuff that I'm involved in, that I'm looking forward to, to even be bothered with it. I wish you the best. Go do your thing. Peace unto everyone."

Tip claimed that Lo's words were insincere, because after that meeting, another fracas occurred.

"[After we talked], me and my artists go out there to do our song, and there's a lot of negative feedback from right here in front of the stage," he said. "That kinda sparked some things that I, once again, cannot condone, support or entertain. So I had to separate myself form the whole situation.

"I'm done," he added. "Like I said, it's a non-issue for me. I'm cool. I'm not trippin'. I wasn't trippin' before then, and I'm not trippin' now."

Grammy Predictions: Why Lil Wayne Will Lose To Robert Plant, And Coldplay Will Win Big

The Recording Academy likes legends and safe bets, which is bad news for Weezy, M.I.A. and Radiohead.

The only thing more fun than watching Mariah Carey wail "Please Come Home for Christmas" during last night's Grammy Nomination Special/ Concert/ Self-Congratulatory Hoedown was realizing that, just like Kanye West at last year's awards, this year's top vote getter, Lil Wayne, is probably going to be trumped by an old guy. This year's Grammy heritage pick is once again (not) singer Robert Plant, who picked up nods in all three big categories for his justifiably honored collaboration with Grammy crush Alison Krauss, Raising Sand.

Practice that "it's cool to be nominated" smile, Weezy, because Album of the Year is probably not your game to win this year. And Adele, they may love your Mercury Prize-nominated white-girl-singing-the-blues thing in England, and good on you for snagging a Record of the Year nom for "Chasing Pavements" (I dare anyone to hum a few bars), but Plant and Krauss are probably going to snag that one too. But we have to give the Grammy voters (at least the ones who let their Web-savvy 13-year-old daughters cast their ballots for them) props for including M.I.A.'s "Paper Planes" in the category, surely the only song in Grammy history to feature gunshots, a cash register and a Clash sample as part of the chorus, not to mention lyrics about "weed and bongs."

And for those reasons alone, Ms. Arulpragasam probably isn't going to be hoisting any Golden Gramophones over her head on February 9, either. Even though the Recording Academy likes to put up a "forward-thinking" front (check those Radiohead nods), when it gets down to it, they generally vote like the industry vets they are. But enough about who's not going to win on Grammy night — here's a look at who we think will.

Album of the Year: Just in case we weren't clear, Academy voters like to play it safe when it comes to handing out hardware — and that means rewarding the "legend" for a job relatively well done (just like Herbie Hancock at last year's ceremony). Sorry, Radiohead, Weezy and Ne-Yo, this one goes to Plant and Krauss' Sand. Or, in a pinch, perhaps Coldplay's Viva la Vida, because they're one of the biggest, most successful rock acts on the planet (and sort of milquetoast, which also appeals to voters).

Record of the Year: Again, we're thinking Plant and Krauss, though it would be relatively amazing if M.I.A. won, took the stage hugely pregnant, raised her Grammy in the air and began spouting revolutionary slogans about the Tamil Tigers and a "Third World democracy." Academy President Neil Portnow's beard would probably spontaneously combust.

Song of the Year: It would be awesome if Estelle's effervescent "American Boy" won here, but these are Grammy voters we're talking about, so think radio-friendly. Which means ... congrats, Coldplay, your "Viva la Vida" is the song of the year! (You could also substitute "Jason Mraz" and "I'm Yours" or "Sara Bareillis" and "Love Song," and it would have much the same impact).

Best New Artist: Lady Antebellum? Yeah, we said the same thing about the Nashville trio who apparently wrote a song that appeared on "The Hills." And Jazmine Sullivan — cool album, but really? Of course, the Jonas Brothers were more than happy to fill the honorary they've-released-two-albums-already-but-are-still-considered-"new" slot this year. But it is entirely possible that Duffy and Adele will share this award, because no one would be able to tell the difference between the two.

Best Rap Solo Performance: In a category of heavyweights (and Lupe Fiasco), we're gonna go with Wayne's "A Milli," if only because voters might feel a twinge of remorse for shutting him out everywhere else. Two relatively amazing other possibilities: Snoop Dogg's "Sexual Eruption" wins, and he accepts the award with dripping Jheri curls and a keytar slung around his neck. Or Nas wins, and someone has to awkwardly read out the title of his song, you know ... the one called "N.-.-.-.e.r (The Slave and the Master)."

Best Rap Song: Another big-name category (Weezy! T.I.! Jay! Kanye! Snoop!), which means that the one lesser name — Lupe again — will probably win here. Common sense does not apply to the Grammys (though Common often does).

Best Rap Album: Academy voters sure love Lupe Fiasco, whose The Cool snagged another nom here (too bad voters don't also buy albums). Wayne's Tha Carter III should be the favorite here, because it's the year's biggest-selling hip-hop album, but don't count out Jay-Z's American Gangster, which came out so long ago that voters might have forgotten that it was relatively underwhelming.

Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocals: No offense to Coldplay, but compared to AC/DC and Kings of Leon, "Violet Hill" is about as rocking as a preschool play-date. Speaking of KOL, there's another song that will give Portnow a coronary if it wins, thanks to lyrics about, well, let's just say doing something to someone who's driving.

Best Rock Album: Somehow, despite having one of the year's hugest songs — rock or otherwise — Kid Rock landed only two Grammy noms, one for Rock Album and one for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance (where he's up against acts like Ne-Yo, James Taylor and Paul McCartney, whose "That Was Me" has a title that sounds like someone copping to a bit of flatulence). That would make Rock the favorite here, except, ooh! Coldplay are nominated! Never mind.

Best Female Pop Vocal Performance: You would think, given the success of Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl" that she'd be the lock here, but considering that she was shut out of the big four categories, she doesn't look like that safe of a bet. So, let's say Leona Lewis's "Bleeding Love" here. Or maybe Adele's "Chasing Pavements." Or Duffy's "Mercy." You know, whichever.

Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocals: Al Green and Jennifer Hudson are nominated here, so ... Hey! Wait! Boyz II Men got a nom! Welcome back, fellas, you win in a landslide.

So what do you think? Let us know below!

Heidi Montag has denied claims made by her mother that then-boyfriend Spencer Pratt drugged her preceding her decision to marry him last month in Mexico, according to UsMagazine.com. Montag's denial comes the same day Pratt responded to the allegations about the impromptu marriage.

"I want to make it very clear to family, friends and fans that the decision to marry Spencer was very much mine," Montag said. "It was a beautiful day, and I've never been happier. For someone who wasn't even there to suggest otherwise is extremely disappointing."

Heidi's mother, Darlene Egelhoff, gives the marriage six months and admits to being disappointed in her daughter for choosing to marry her "Hills" co-star. "Spencer has tried to cut everyone out of her life," Egelhoff told Us. "I've been honest with Heidi, and it's caused our relationship to decline. I'm more devastated about that than the marriage, because I'm confident the marriage won't work out."

Heidi said she hopes that once the wedding airs on "The Hills," everyone will see that their love is real and that they're in it for the long haul. "I look forward to everyone seeing the footage of our time in Mexico on 'The Hills,' so they can see for themselves what a joyous occasion it was," she said.

Meanwhile, Pratt addressed the question of their marriage's legitimacy, saying he also has plans to make the marriage legal in the U.S. "I'm on it. In my mind, it's as legal as the ring on my finger," Pratt told Us. "But I wouldn't want everyone going around saying, 'It's not real.' "

Coldplay Sued By Joe Satriani For Allegedly Plagiarizing 'Viva La Vida' Melody

Guitarist claims the Grammy-nominated song is a rip-off of his track 'If I Could Fly.'

Not long after Coldplay's Viva la Vida album hit shelves this summer, the blogosphere exploded with suggestions that the title track bore a striking resemblance to a 2004 instrumental track by rock guitarist Joe Satriani titled "If I Could Fly."

Now, Satriani has accused the band of copyright infringement in a lawsuit filed on Thursday in Los Angeles federal court, according to a Reuters report.

A day after the Coldplay album was nominated for seven Grammys, including Record and Song of the Year for "Viva la Vida," Satriani's suit claims that "Viva" incorporates "substantial original portions" of his track "If I Could Fly," from the Is There Love in Space? album.

Satriani, 52, is seeking a jury trial in the dispute, as well as damages and "any and all profits" attributable to the alleged copyright infringement. The songwriting credit on the Coldplay song is attributed to the band's four members: singer Chris Martin, bass player Guy Berryman, guitarist Jonny Buckland and drummer Will Champion. A spokesperson for Coldplay could not be reached for comment at press time.

Satriani isn't the only artist who has claimed the Coldplay song was eerily familiar. Around the time of the album's release, a lesser-known New York band named Creaky Boards claimed that Martin had attended one of their gigs and would have heard the tune "The Songs I Didn't Write," which also bears a similar melody. At the time, Coldplay's spokespeople denied that Martin was at the gig and said the band had written "Viva" several months before that show.

'Rock Of Ages,' The 'Anti-Broadway Musical,' Brings Hair Metal To The Theater

Musical stars Constantine Maroulis, of 'American Idol' fame, and features hits from Whitesnake, Poison, more.

History has not been kind to the hair-metal era of the late 1980s.

It was a time of leather and strategically ripped denim, of bangles and hoop earrings, of pumping fists and devil horns, of eyeliner and rouge. It was a time when women lusted after men who wore more hairspray, makeup and jewelry than they did. It was a time when Poison, Mötley Crüe, Whitesnake and Warrant ruled the charts, and bands with names like the Bang Tango, Britny Fox, Kix and Faster Pussycat were almost considered cool.

It was a time of glorious cheesiness. It was, to quote a hit of the era, nothin' but a good time.

So it was just a matter of time before somebody made a hair-metal musical, right?

In theory, it sounds awful. And by all rights, it should be. But the hilarious "Rock of Ages" — a new musical that revels in the cheese of the era, tacking a corny plot to anthems of the era by Whitesnake, Journey, Twisted Sister, Poison, Foreigner, Night Ranger and many others — gets it just right by laughing at itself as hard as its audiences do. It's not just your typical cheesy off-Broadway musical. It's your typical cheesy off-Broadway musical on steroids. (Imagine a hair-metal "Mamma Mia.")

It's got mullets, bimbos, spandex, a sleazy club owner and wannabe rockers galore. Not cheesy enough? It's even got "American Idol" castoff Constantine Maroulis in a lead role.

"Let's set the scene," he says. "1987, Sunset Strip, lots of big dreams, lots of big guitars, big hair, stripper poles, naked chicks, really funny characters ... and two dreamers move to L.A. and try to make it big."

The plot centers on (you guessed it) a boy, Drew, and a girl, Sherrie, with dreams of making it big in the music business, moving to Hollywood in the late '80s and working at a rock club on the Sunset Strip (a winking stand-in for the Whisky a Go Go). The two fall for each other, but wait! Starstruck Sherrie has a seedy one-night stand (in the club restroom) with sinister superstar Stacee Jaxx, who then promptly forgets her. Discouraged, she and Drew lose sight of their dreams; she becomes a stripper, he joins a wack rap combo. Then, the club is about to be demolished to make way for condos! All seems lost!

You'll never guess how it plays out.

And in case the plot gets a little too complicated — which is pretty much an impossibility — a narrator is there to help the story along. And he takes his job very seriously.

"The narrator, it's an ancient rock-and-roll device used back in the day to involve the crowd," said Mitchell Jarvis, the mulleted, Jack Black-channeling narrator. "Because a lot of time the music and the lyrics are so complicated that you need that layman's voice."

The plot is so filled with winks that everyone in the house is in on the joke. But what really makes the show, believe it or not, is the music. The extroverted nature of the songs translates beautifully to a Broadway setting, and anyone who doesn't walk out of the theater with respect for the craft of "Here I Go Again" or "Don't Stop Believin' " has no sense of fun. Adding to the ambience, the theater is loaded with concert posters from the era, fake lighters are distributed along with the programs, and — not insignificantly — alcohol is served.

"It's kind of like the anti-Broadway musical," says Will Swenson, who steals the show as Stacee Jaxx. "It's super-interactive with the crowd, people are ordering drinks and singing along with the songs."

"What we've done is taken those '80s bands and theatricalized them and put them into a musical with a really big plot," says Kelli Barrett, who plays Sherrie. "Rock and roll for us is the priority. It's a light show, we've got the hazer fog, and we've got an amazing band."

For those reasons and many others, "Rock of Ages" works much better than it should. As Jarvis says, "The magic happens when I put this mullet on and go out there and do my thing."

Thursday (December 4) marks the first anniversary of the death of UGK rap legend Pimp C (real name: Chad Butler), who was found dead last year in his room at the Mondrian hotel in Los Angeles. According to the Los Angeles County coroner's office, he died of an accidental overdose of cough medication and a pre-existing sleeping condition.

Pimp C's contribution to Southern rap has not been forgotten, however. Along with UGK partner Bun B, he was influential in establishing Houston in the game and inspired the careers of many of the city's MCs. All day, thoughts have been pouring in to MTV News from his friends and colleagues about how the late rapper touched their lives. (Click here for photos of Pimp C and UGK.)

"I'm normally good with words, but it took me a while just to put a three-sentence quote together about him, because there are no words to describe how much he meant to me and so many others," fellow Houston MC Chamillionaire wrote in an e-mail. "It really seems like it was just yesterday that he was here, and I still can't believe he's not. He is deeply missed, and I know his legacy will live on forever."

Slim Thug said that Pimp C's voice still lives on in many artists' music. "I hear him sampled on hooks and hear all the good music he made while alive, and I know we will never forget what he did for Texas."

Pimp C is expected to make a posthumous appearance on Chamillionaire's third album, Venom, and is featured with Chamillionaire on "Underground Thang," a song off of Bun B's II Trill.

Bun B remembered his partner fondly when we spoke to him recently in Houston during the weekend of the "Best of Texas" concert. "It took us awhile to figure out that UGK was not just a group," Bun said. "UGK means so much to so many people."

Bun said he would never forget how they supported and encouraged each other to continue in the game. "There would be different times where his frustration would get overbearing, and he would want to just kind of stop doing it, and I would lift him," he recalled. "And then vice-versa. When I would start feeling indifferent about the game, he would be there to lift me up and keep me inspired."

Pimp C's wife, Chinara Butler, also shared her thoughts on what her husband meant to her family and music.

"To my husband and best friend, words can never express how much you are missed, and how much of a gap you left in the lives of family, friends, the industry and your fans!" she said in an e-mail. "I don't think I'm alone when I say I definitely miss you, speaking the real. You are loved and missed, but your spirit and music will live on forever!"

Britney Spears' First Husband, Jason Alexander, In Jail For Probation Violation

While Britney Spears is having a great week thanks to the release of her new album, Circus, and some serious face time thanks to appearances on "Good Morning America" and her "For the Record" documentary, the same can't be said for her first ex-husband. Jason Alexander, the singer's childhood Louisiana friend to whom she was married for 55 hours in 2004, was arrested in Los Angeles on Wednesday for violating his probation from a 2006 DUI conviction.

According to Steve Whitmore, senior spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Alexander, 27, was sentenced to 10 days in jail for the violation when he appeared in court on Wednesday. Whitmore said Alexander will likely be released early due to the overcrowding situation in the jail — which has resulted in quick in-and-out sentences for stars such as Lindsay Lohan and Nicole Richie in the past — but that he will likely be locked up until December 9.

TMZ reported that one of the reasons Alexander was locked up was because he missed two court ordered appointments at the L.A. County Morgue as part of his probation for the DUI conviction; Whitmore said he could not confirm information that at press time.

"He was remanded into custody yesterday, when a judge determined that he had violated his probation by not attending the DUI classes he was ordered to, so they sentenced him to 10 days in county jail," Whitmore said. In addition to the morgue visits, Alexander was ordered to take an alcohol education program as part of a deal following a DUI arrest in 2006, but he reportedly did not fulfill those requirements and when the judge found out he ordered him to jail.

Whitmore said Alexander is due back in court on February 2 for a progress report, at which time his probation could be extended.

Spencer Pratt is denying claims by Heidi Montag's mother, Darlene Egelhoff, that Heidi married him because he drugged her while on vacation in Mexico last month.

"I am sure she is just hurt and reacting crazy because she wasn't there," Pratt said on Ryan Seacrest's morning radio show Thursday (December 4).

In the latest issue of Us Weekly, Egelhoff guessed that the marriage wouldn't last more than six months. "He's manipulative and seems to have power over Heidi," she told the magazine. "I would like to see a blood test from Mexico. It wouldn't surprise me if he had her drugged."

As for Egelhoff's claim that the marriage wouldn't last very long, Pratt made this vow to Seacrest: "I can't wait to prove her wrong and be married for the rest of our lives."

In the Us Weekly article, Egelhoff said that her daughter missed Thanksgiving to honeymoon with Spencer in Mexico, and Pratt said it's likely she won't be heading to Colorado for Christmas either. "After that statement [to Us Weekly], the Pratts, as in Heidi and Spencer Pratt, will have their own Christmas tree out here," he told Seacrest.

"Spencer has tried to cut everyone out of her life," Egelhoff told Us. "I've been honest with Heidi, and it's caused our relationship to decline. I'm more devastated about that than the marriage, because I'm confident the marriage won't work out.

"God says, 'Love your enemies,' but I never expected it to be my son-in-law," Egelhoff continued. "I think it's the biggest mistake Heidi's ever made."
