When Lil Wayne found out he was named MTV News' 2008 Man of the Year, he responded in typical Weezy-ian fashion: He wished everyone happy holidays.

To be fair, that's not all he said, but it's how he signed off in the e-mail he sent to MTV News, in between stops on his I Am Music Tour. He also thanked his fans and his pals here in the newsroom, and he promised bigger things to come in 2009, if that's even possible. (Fans and detractors alike weighed in on his Man of the Year status here.) And while he was also plenty grateful for the honor, the way he chose to end his e-mail just struck us as being completely hilarious — something that could have only sprung from the wild mind of Wayne.

"What's up, MTV News! This is your boy Weezy comin' at you from the middle of my I Am Music Tour. I just heard the news about being named Man of the Year. Thanks to everyone at MTV and shout out to my man [MTV News Hip-Hop Editor] Shaheem [Reid] for keeping up on what we do," he wrote. "Finally, much love to all of the fans. I truly do this for you! And we're gonna keep it going in '09, so keep checkin' out MTV News! Happy Holidays!"

Wayne beat a field of contenders — including T.I., Nick Jonas, "Twilight" star Robert Pattinson and Kanye West — to be named MTV News' Man of the Year, which is just the latest in an ongoing string of honors he's racked up recently. (See whether Weezy's fellow artists agree that he's the Man this year here.)

Earlier this week, the MTV Hip-Hop Brain Trust named his track "A Milli" as the Top Hip-Hop Song of 2008. Oh, and there were the eight Grammy nominations — more than any other artist — that he picked up a few weeks back. What can we say, he's had quite the year!

Lil Wayne's Fans And Detractors Debate His Man Of The Year Status

Is he the 'greatest rapper alive' or overrated? You guys weighed in.

Lil Wayne was everywhere this year. The guy did sell over a million copies of his album, Tha Carter III, in the first week, but there were was a slew of other reasons why we decided to name him our 2008 Man of the Year.

From his drug and gun busts to his eight Grammy nominations, Weezy has been on a roll. But how did you guys feel about him topping the list?

"Lil Wayne is king in the hip-hop game!" alkeepsitreal18 wrote. "Unless there is someone better out there, everyone else can just go away for a long summer. Don't bother coming back until you might be able to reach his level of hotness."

Another commenter, dkday26, chimed in to say, "He has the right to be number one on this list. Congrats on all your accomplishments. Continue the hard work and can't wait for the next album."

When MTV News caught up with music fans out in Times Square, there were many differing reactions. Cesarin Perez straightforwardly told us "No," when asked if Weezy should be #1. Josh Willenbrink laughed, asking, "For real?'

Meanwhile, Branden Sealey said he thought the win was well-deserved. "Yeah, well Lil Wayne is the greatest rapper alive." But his response was followed by Alex Cummins asking, "Who's Lil Wayne?"

Still, even people who don't listen to rap were jumping on the Weezy bandwagon. "I think he deserved it," Stephanie Freed said. "I like Lil Wayne. I'm not really that into rap. I go for more the Ryan Adams-esque folk music, but I think Lil Wayne's pretty awesome."

"I love Lil Wayne. Lil Wayne's awesome. He's hot one of the best artists we know," Raymond Ballow told us. Like Ballow, there were a lot of fans on the New York streets who were excited by his claim at the top spot. "Lil Wayne is the best," another fan said. "I want more Lil Wayne."

Of course, there are always detractors and for everyone who agreed that Wayne's the Man of the Year, there was someone who wanted it to be Chris Brown, 50 Cent, Barack Obama or Pete Wentz at the top of the list.

"I don't think so," Jessica Santoro said. "I'm not really into the Lil Wayne. I like rock better. And every time he sings, he sounds like he's taking a crap or something."

Diddy, Katy Perry, Hayley Williams And Others Name Their Picks For Man And Woman Of 2008

Barack Obama, Britney Spears and Grace Jones are among the artists' faves of the year.

It seems that just about everybody has an opinion about MTV News' Men and Women of the Year lists. Not enough Britney, too much Beyoncé. Why was Robert Pattinson so low? And, most of all — no Barack Obama?!?

On Thursday, when we finally revealed our picks for both the Man and Woman of 2008, you made those opinions heard again. And the overwhelming response got us thinking: Why should we let the readers have all the fun? So we decided to turn the question over to some of the biggest artists of 2008 — a pair of whom were actually featured in the Top 10 — to get their thoughts. And while some of them agreed with our picks, others felt the need to point out one rather glaring omission. (Hint: His name rhymes with "Marack Bobama.")

Anyway, here's what some of 2008's most prominent men and women had to say:

Diddy

"I've seen Wayne [come up], and it's been a long, long road for him," Diddy said. "And the way he did it, and put it together, and how he became his own man but stayed down with his crew, and stayed true to who he was, and stayed consistent. He deserves everything he's getting [right now]. He's helped invigorate the game, he's the future, and he deserves it."

His other picks? "Hov — being the producer of the American Gangster album is something I'm definitely proud of. And 'Ye and T.I. It's a beautiful thing to see ... such great quality of work. And I'm very happy and proud of everybody."

Katy Perry

"My Man of the Year? I love Robert Pattinson."

Ne-Yo

"I think both of those have to go to the Obamas," the R&B star said. "Barack and [Michelle] have to take that. Simply put, we made history this year. First African-American president, first African-American first lady, there really isn't much else to say about that."

Hayley Williams, Paramore

"Conan O'Brien. He's the Man of the Year," Williams said. "He's definitely the man of next year, and we're going to say he's the man of this year, too." And her Woman of the Year? "Britney Spears, because she came back, and she did it right."

Lady Gaga

"I'd have to say Barack Obama is the Man of the Year. I think we did the absolute impossible this year. We had a huge change, and I'm so proud to be an American.

"The woman of the year ... I'm going to pick a kind of obscure person," Lady Gaga continued. "I'm going to give Woman of the Year to Grace Jones, just because she had an incredible album come out, and I'm a huge, huge fan. Everybody go look up 'Corporate Cannibal.' The song and the video are amazing, spreading avant-garde music around the world."

Jesse McCartney

"Woman of the Year, I'm going to go with Leona Lewis," said McCartney, who helped pen Lewis' "Bleeding Love." "I think she made a big statement in the pop world. I think she's our new pop diva; she's our new Whitney. As far as Man of the Year, yeah, I'm going to go with Obama. ... I think he had a bunch of pretty big accomplishments this year."

Estelle

"I think Kanye's come through very well. He had two major upsets in his life, with his mother and his relationships, and the way he's handled it, and the album he's made, I think he's done really well. I can't even imagine having to go through something like that, so, to me, he's done the best this year."

Chris Walla, Death Cab for Cutie

"The Man of the Year has got to be Barack Obama. And if this isn't part of a string of people saying 'Barack Obama' in shotgun fashion, I'm going to be terribly disappointed."

Chris Tomson, Vampire Weekend

"It's a pretty standard answer: We were all in Germany when the election happened, but we all mailed our votes in, so we all took part, and we're all excited about next year, and getting Barack Obama in the White House. Also, [embattled Illinois Governor] Rod Blagojevich. He does have pretty immaculate hair."

Jamie Foxx Celebrates His <i>Intuition</i> After Kicking Off Week With Terrence Howard Dis

At Vibe party, the singer/actor sang along with his new album instead of taking part in his usual wild antics.

Foxy ladies and Patrón. Expect both when Oscar winner Jamie Foxx throws a bash. Fresh off his Diddy-hosted birthday party in Las Vegas ("He said he wanted to pay for it. That was important," Foxx told "Tonight Show" host Jay Leno), Foxx held a shindig Wednesday at New York nightclub Home in honor of the release of his third album, Intuition. The album hit stores on Tuesday, competing against new projects by Soulja Boy Tell'em, Plies and Keyshia Cole. Vibe magazine sponsored this one.

"This Jamie album is jamming," one woman at the bar said of Foxx's first LP since 2005's Unpredictable. DJ Envy mixed choice cuts from the LP with a wide array of songs from his normal club playlist, including Bell Biv DeVoe's "Poison" and Jim Jones and Ron Browz's "Pop Champagne," the biggest record in New York right now.

"Digital Girl" was among the Foxx records played. "I wanna see what's under there," Kanye West raps on the record. "There now, put it in the air/ Yeah, load it on my MacBook Air/ It's a new form of macking, don't be old-fashioned, update your passion/ Only reason I be iChattin'/ It's when it's time for some action/ I wanna hit it way way out like John Paxton."

Foxx didn't engage in his usual wild antics, such as standing on top of the bar and pouring liquor straight from the bottle into women's mouths. Instead, the all-purpose entertainer posed for pictures with his fans. Later in the night, he went to the DJ booth with Envy and sang lyrics and ad-libbed to another record off his album, "I Don't Need It."

"I don't need it/ I got options," he sang. "You wanna spend my time?/ You wanna spend my dough?/ You got love for sale?/ I don't need it."

Earlier in the week, Foxx caught eyes and ears all over the Internet when he did some serious joking on actor Terrence Howard. Foxx told syndicated radio host Big Boy that Howard dissed his music. Foxx, in turn, did a spot-on impersonation of the "Iron Man" co-star and riffed on Howard's album sales.

"He's gotta come holla at me. He really went hard on me on this interview on CNN. This is when he was pushing his album that went plastic," Foxx said. "This is the same dude who does the same character in every movie. ... Terrence, you gotta come holla at me."
