Lady Gaga is giving fans a peek at the girl behind the pop star in an exclusive special titled "Lady Gaga: Inside the Outside." In the hour-long interview, set to air Thursday, May 26, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on MTV, the singer reveals how she went from Stefani Germanotta to Gaga, pop's pre-eminent global superstar, and allows her audience to share her vulnerabilities.

During the intimate chat, Mother Monster opens up about her rise to fame — from her school days of being bullied by classmates to the moment she decided to pursue her dreams of pop stardom. She speaks in-depth about the moments that shaped her as an artist, including the release of her highly anticipated album, Born This Way, on May 23.

"Lady Gaga: Inside the Outside" also focuses on Gaga at home, spotlighting her close relationship with her family and growing up in Manhattan before she made the life-changing decision to move out on her own to New York City's Lower East Side.

Gaga recalls being bullied by students at school and what impact it had on her. "I remember once, some of the girls from my class, they were hanging out with some boys that I knew also," the "Judas" singer says. "And then I went to meet some friends for some pizza that were at the same pizzeria, and the boys picked me up and threw me in the trashcan on the street on the corner of my block, while all the other girls from the school were leaving and could see me in the trash and everybody was laughing — and I was even laughing.

"I always have that nervous giggle and I just remember, like, holding back the tears and the lip quivering," she continues. "And I remember even one of the girls looking at me like, 'Are you about to cry? You're pathetic.' I remember I didn't tell anybody, that's what I remember. I remember I didn't tell anybody. I remember I didn't want to tell my parents because it was too embarrassing. And I remember I didn't want to really bring it up with my girlfriends even though they were there."

Her parents, as Gaga explains in the special, have always been supportive of her dreams, even if it meant challenging her.

"My dad was really into rock and roll. Bruce Springsteen had such an influence on our home. My dad saw me singing along to his records and he would pick me up and throw me around the room and laugh and cry with me while I would sing Pink Floyd and Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel records with him. My father gave me — I believe it was for Christmas — it was a Bruce Springsteen songbook for the piano and on it was 'Thunder Road,' which is my favorite Bruce Springsteen song. And my dad said, 'If you learn how to play this song, we will take out a loan for a grand piano, a baby grand.' I didn't know the difference. There was the big one and a small one."

A young Gaga was more than up for the challenge. "So I remember it was the hardest thing for me. I was playing these huge pieces, like 15 pages long. ... I opened up the book and there was, like, chords, guitar chords. I was so confused, I didn't understand it, so I just started to read it," she recalls. "Eventually, I got it down."

Catch an exclusive teaser trailer for "Lady Gaga: Inside the Outside" on Thursday at 10:58 p.m. ET/PT on MTV, after a new episode of "Randy Jackson Presents: America's Best Dance Crew."

Randy Jackson Says 'American Idol' Ladies 'Gotta Slay It' To Win

'Idol' judge tells MTV News it's time for Lauren Alaina and Haley Reinhart to take the gloves off against Scotty McCreery.

It seems like just yesterday that "American Idol" fans were gearing up for the new and improved 10th season. Now — after James Durbin's surprising elimination last week — there are just three contestants remaining.

Scotty McCreery, Lauren Alaina and Haley Reinhart are vying to be this season's champ. But who will win? Given that the last few "Idol" winners have been male, the odds don't seem to be in the ladies' favor. MTV News caught up with resident judge Randy Jackson to get his thoughts on what Alaina and Reinhart have to do in order to take the wind out of country crooner McCreery's seemingly invincible sails.

"This has to be their best performances of their time on 'Idol,' " Jackson said. "It has to be the best song choices and they have judges' pick this week, so we pick one but, also, they gotta slay it, dude, out of the park," he emphasized with a few of his trademark Randy-isms. "Now it's time to take all the gloves off, yo."

Everything comes down to votes from viewers, however, no matter how well the contestants may "slay" or box their way through their final performances, a point that "Idol" executive producer Nigel Lythgoe emphasized when we chatted with him. The "AI" exec also talked about dealing with complaints he receives from fans via Twitter.

"It's annoying because 'Idol,' of all shows, really goes with what the public demands, whether we like it or not," he insisted. "And, of course, we didn't like to see Casey [Abrams] going. We didn't like to see Pia [Toscano] going. We didn't like to see James going. But someone has to go, by the very nature of it being a competition."

So who's going to win this? Scotty? Lauren? Haley? Share your vote in the comments!

'Try A Little Tenderness': Story Behind The 'Glee' Song

Amber Riley covers the tune made famous by Otis Redding.
By Aly Semigran

While there is, no doubt, a bevy of talent on the immensely popular "Glee," the big numbers tend to fall to a select few of the show's castmembers. Like her co-stars Lea Michele and Chris Colfer, actress Amber Riley, who plays big-voiced, big personality Mercedes, is one of those standouts.

And she proved it once again during Tuesday night's episode of Glee, titled "Funeral," in which she took a swing at the classic "Try a Little Tenderness" and knocked it out of the park.

Of course, this is a song that has been giving people goose bumps for nearly 80 years and made its mark on pop culture in that time. Written by Harry M. Woods, James Campbell and Reginald Connelly (a songwriting team better known as "Irving King"), the first incarnation of the love song was recorded in 1932 by the Ray Noble Orchestra. A year later, Bing Crosby lent his trademark voice to the track with a noticeably different sound.

In fact, "Try a Little Tenderness" is now one of the most frequently covered songs in music. Take your pick as everyone from Aretha Franklin, Frank Sinatra, Nina Simone, Tina Turner, Three Dog Night and Michael Buble have crooned the tune.

But there may be no version more popular (or influential) of "Try a Little Tenderness" than Otis Redding's 1966 cover. When it was released as a single that November, Redding had given the track an entirely new spin, beginning with a slow, smooth R&B vibe and building into a furious rock and roll conclusion. His version has become the one most people know and love. And while the song wasn't as big a chart-topper as his hit "Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay" ("Try a Little Tenderness" peaked at #25 on the Billboard charts), it has had the same amount of staying power.

Music critics have certainly loved Redding's ode to making the moment sweet for your lady. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which inducted the musician in 1989, named his version of "Try a Little Tenderness" one of the 500 Songs That Shaped Rock, while Rolling Stone placed it at #204 on their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, just edging out another R&B classic, Bill Withers' "Lean On Me."

And there may be no greater tribute to Redding's "Try a Little Tenderness" than Duckie, Jon Cryer's lovelorn character in John Hughes' 1986 classic high school flick "Pretty in Pink." In a memorable scene, Cryer's eccentric Duckie sings and dances along to the song in a record store, putting an emphasis on the tune's dramatic end. Most fans of the film would agree, Molly Ringwald's Andie should have picked Duckie for his spirited lip-synch serenade alone.

Hughes wasn't the only one to use the song onscreen. The tune has popped up in various movies and pop cultural facets. Films like "Bull Durham," "Shrek," "Duets," and the 2007 dramedy "This Christmas" (in which Chris Brown performed the classic) have all paid tribute to Redding's timeless version.

Meanwhile, TV shows like "So You Think You Can Dance" and now "Glee," use the song as a source of inspiration in their storytelling. Those movies and shows also serve as a helpful reminder of why this is a song that should be played at full volume and to the one you love.

What did you think of Amber Riley's rendition of "Try a Little Tenderness"? Leave a comment in the section below!

Death Cab For Cutie's Codes And Keys: Alone Together

New album sees frontman Ben Gibbard getting happy while feeling more alone than ever, in Bigger Than the Sound.
By James Montgomery

"Some boys don't know how to love," Ben Gibbard sings on Death Cab for Cutie's new Codes and Keys album, perhaps unaware of the fact that he's just summed up the band's entire career in the process.

Of course, the object of that love — self, location, family, girls — has never really been as important as the sentiment itself. Death Cab truly are at their best when they're at their lowest, their most lost, be it on songs like "Styrofoam Plates" and "405" or albums like Transatlanticism and Narrow Stairs. They are, for all intents and purposes, a band that seems incapable of solving the eternal quandaries of the heart.

So what, then, will fans make of Keys, an album written after Gibbard did just that, marrying actress Zooey Deschanel and getting sober in the process (as he recently revealed to Spin magazine)? In keeping with that newfound clarity, he describes the disc as "more balanced than ever," displaying "a more even emotional palette" than the morose Stairs. And when those quotes are taken in context with the winging, wide-eyed guitars of first single "You Are a Tourist," perhaps the alarms begin to go off: Is it possible Gibbard has left his sad-sack past behind him? Has he finally figured out how to love?

Well, yes and no. Because while Codes and Keys (which hits stores May 31) certainly beams with rays of positivity, those rays are often obscured by the same dark clouds that have always dotted Death Cab's horizons. "Tourist" is a perfect example of this. Sure, it brims with sonic sunshine, but lyrically, there's a darkness to it, an urge to free oneself from the constraints of emotion and geography. "Unobstructed Views" pulls the same trick, only in reverse, starting off with a somber, piano-driven introduction before slowly blossoming into a full-blown paean to affection, with Gibbard repeating the mantra "Just our love/ Just our love." In fact, with matters of the heart seemingly squared away, Gibbard turns his attention to the world at large, and, in the process, discovers that he's probably more lost than ever. Codes and Keys is a record about longing to feel connected in increasingly disconnected times, to find meaning in the possessions we surround ourselves with, to receive comfort in home, even if — as I wrote last week when the band unveiled some of the record live in Seattle — no one's quite sure where home is these days.

And it's in the moments where that longing becomes so sharp that it breaks the surface of the skin — songs like album opener "Home Is a Fire," the roiling "Doors Unlocked and Open," "Portable Television" and the chilly "St. Peter's Cathedral" — that Codes and Keys really hits its stride. Gibbard fills them with mentions of unblinking pane glass, unrelenting freeway traffic, unfeeling concrete and unmoving monuments to our faith. His bandmates match him every step of the way, particularly the rhythm section of Nick Harmer and Jason McGerr, who provide a propulsive slipstream on which Gibbard's words zip endlessly toward the skyline. And as both a player and a producer, Chris Walla fills the album with plenty of atmospheric touches — echoed harmonies, wiry, barely there guitar jags, hissing room tones, pulsing, burbling synthesizers — ensuring that we all get the message Keys is trying to convey: that no matter how safe, secure, ensconced or attached we all may feel, we are still all alone, and we will probably die that way.

In short, Codes and Keys is an ode to alienation, and no matter how hard Gibbard tries to push against that fact (like on saccharine album-closer "Stay Young Go Dancing," when he keens, "And oh, how I feel alive/ Though winter's advancing/ We'll stay young, go dancing"), he can't seem to change the inevitable outcome. And that conflict between the head and the heart is the key to the album's success. It is very much a temporal thing, an album made for no other time than right now. Because falling in love is a centuries-old concept at this point; falling apart while remaining eternally connected, now that's a new problem.

'Pirates' Director Says He Was 'Crazy' To Shoot 'On Stranger Tides' In 3-D

'Even though it's more complicated and it's more expensive, it felt right for this film,' Rob Marshall tells MTV News.

At multiplexes everywhere this summer, you'll see moviegoers wandering around with 3-D glasses perched on their noses, which, depending on whom you ask, is either a lovely development for audiences or a sign that studios will wring every last dollar from the public regardless of quality or common sense.

Put that judgment to "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" director Rob Marshall, and he'll explain why his Johnny Depp-starring summer blockbuster is the perfect fit for the three-dimensional treatment. "I don't think every movie should be 3-D, honestly, but I feel like certain movies lend themselves to 3-D, especially if it's real 3-D," he explained. "We shot it in 3-D. It wasn't converted. It wasn't done on a soundstage against a green screen. It's all very real."

And its very realness is what made the endeavor so darn outrageous. "It's complicated with 3-D. It's delicate," Marshall explained. "We were kind of crazy doing it, because we were bringing all this equipment into very remote locations. We were in caves and jungles and waterfalls and beaches and ships with this equipment."

The production shot in such isolated locales that on the first day of shooting in Hawaii, the crew could only reach set by jet ski. The equipment, including the bulky 3-D cameras, had to be flown in by helicopter. But the complex logistics — and the added expense — will pay dividends for those 3-D-glasses-wearing ticket buyers.

"Even though it's more complicated and it's more expensive, it felt right for this film, because you're inside the movie, inside that adventure with the pirates and Jack Sparrow — immersed into that world," Marshall said. "It's a great world to be part of."

Eminem's transition from the studio to the silver screen was a successful one. His 2002 film "8 Mile" was critically acclaimed and took home some MTV Movie Awards. But for Marshall, going from rapper to actor wasn't as easy. In fact, he said that some initial advice he had gotten from Ice Cube gave him a false sense of confidence.

"I think Ice Cube said this one time; I think I heard him say this one time," Em told Sway during their "RapFix Live" interview, which will stream on MTV.com on Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET. "If you can rap, if you can perform to the camera for singing and videos, it should be a pretty, fairly natural transition.

"I felt like having heard him say that was like, 'Oh, this may be fairly easy' — and it wasn't."

For Slim Shady, that wasn't the case. "It's a whole different thing, because you may be used to performing to the camera, but it's a whole different ball game when the music is off and you have lines that you need to say.

"It takes a minute to get used to."

Though there is no official word on when Eminem will return to the big screen in a starring role, the rapper has partnered up with fellow Detroit MC Royce Da 5'9" for their upcoming Bad Meets Evil EP, Hell: The Sequel.

Tune in to "RapFix Live" on Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET, when Eminem and Royce sit with Sway to talk about the making of the EP, the future of Shady Records and Eminem's rap inspiration.

Lady Gaga Premieres New Track In 'GagaVille'

MTV News gets the lowdown on the partnership between the star and 'FarmVille' makers Zynga.
By Jocelyn Vena

For her Little Monster gamers, Lady Gaga has hooked up with the makers of "FarmVille" to create "GagaVille," a campy, cotton-candy-colored, Gaga-fied version of the popular online game.

Fans can make their way through "GagaVille" starting on Tuesday (May 17), where they can unlock and stream a new unreleased Born This Way track every day through Thursday. Then, beginning this Friday through the album release day (May 23), players can start to unlock portions of tracks and remixes of songs off the album.

"Everything we've created has been in collaboration," Gaga said in a statement about the game. "From giving players a listen to unreleased songs as a reward for game play within 'FarmVille' to creating daily experiences in 'Words With Friends' that embody the album's messages and songs. We've had a lot of fun developing this program as a unique celebration of the album."

The first new song Gaga is sharing in "GagaVille" is "Marry the Night," a dance track about the revelry that happens when the sun goes down.

" 'FarmVille' players visiting 'GagaVille' will see a farm like none other," Raquel DiSabatino, director of entertainment and media at Zynga, told MTV News. "From planting crystals, to sheep riding motorcycles and special Lady Gaga unicorns, this farm has definitely been 'Gagafied.' Additionally, this is the first time that Zynga is partnering with an artist to offer exclusive virtual items across 10 of our top games in RewardVille — including a Lady Gaga Gyrosphere in 'CityVille,' a Lipstick Gun in 'Mafia Wars' and a Paws Up Statue for 'FrontierVille.' "

DiSabatino noted that this collaboration is really all about Gaga's Little Monsters and the mythology of the pop superstar. "It became evident early on that Gaga is as passionate about her fans as Zynga is about our players, and since so many of Lady Gaga's fans already play Zynga games, we knew it was a good match," she said. "With the Born This Way album launching on May 23, we found a great opportunity to create something together. Zynga is always focused on inventing new ways to entertain our players, and we're excited to bring them a unique experience in the games they love to play."

Cali Swag District's M-Bone Remembered By B.o.B, Jermaine Dupri, Red Cafe

Cali Swag District's Mante "M-Bone" Talbert had his life and career tragically cut short when he was killed in a drive-by shooting in Inglewood, California, on Sunday. M-Bone may have only made his rap debut last year, but the 22-year-old has left a lasting impact on those he collaborated with.

B.o.B, along with Jermaine Dupri, Red Café and Bow Wow, appeared on the official remix of Cali Swag's platinum hit "Teach Me How to Dougie" and remarked on M-Bone's positive demeanor. "You know, just from me, the time that I did work with him and just being around him, they definitely had a really good vibe," Bobby Ray said. "He was the one; he brought a lot of the life with the dance moves. He was really innovative in that aspect of it. Initially, when I heard about the news — when you hear it, it's almost like, damn, you don't even want to believe it."

Red Café echoed a similar sentiment for the fallen hip-hop star. "It was just a lot of fun, especially shooting the video. It was a whole lot of fun," Red said of the "Dougie" remix clip. "And M-Bone, he was killin' the dance, he was tryin' to teach me how to Dougie. He was definitely the dopest one, dancing-wise."

"I believe that he was the one that they all looked to, to learn how to do the Dougie," Dupri said. "Everyone was about it, but he was the one who went hard with it."

M-Bone hasn't rapped on any of Cali Swag's released material but provided the quartet with much of its energy, according to JD. "He was instrumental at showing people the dances," Dupri said. "He was the main inspiration behind the creative dances that ultimately defined the group. He was the fourth member, who didn't rap, but played his position by taking the lead on creating unique dances."

Police are still investigating Talbert's murder. TMZ reported that Bone was possibly murdered by a "jealous man" who threatened Talbert over Twitter. An unnamed woman claiming to be M-Bone's girlfriend told the site that the man lived in their apartment complex and was envious of the success M-Bone had with Cali Swag District.

As of Tuesday morning (May 17), the Inglewood Police homicide division could not confirm any of this information to MTV News, and at press time, the Los Angeles Times reported that detectives had no solid motive for the murder or clear suspects, though they have talked to several witnesses.

The Inglewood Police Department is asking anyone with information to come forward and call its homicide division at (310) 412-5246 or its 24-hour anonymous hot line at (888) 41 CRIME, or (888) 412-7463.

'American Idol' Exec Producer Nigel Lythgoe Responds To 'Morons'

Posted: 16 May 2011 11:30 PM PDT

'The ones that believe we manipulate everything, it drives me crazy sometimes,' he says of vocal fans.
By Sabrina Rojas Weiss

As executive producer of "American Idol" and "So You Think You Can Dance," as well as a judge on the latter — and maybe even back in the day as the choreographer of "The Apple" — Nigel Lythgoe is well versed at taking jabs from angry fans. But that doesn't mean he's not tempted to strike back now and again at the viewers who are convinced the producers of the shows arrange things so that their favorites will win.

"Thanks for all the personal abuse from the usual morons out there in Twitterland," he tweeted after last Wednesday night's "Idol." "I personally feel Haley is the most improved contestant."

MTV News "Idol" expert Jim Cantiello was sure Nigel was partly responding to his joking tweet, "@dizzyfeet Whew! Looks like you have a lot of Haley votes to delete tonight! ;)"

So, when Lythgoe stopped by the newsroom on Monday with "So You Think You Can Dance" judge Mary Murphy, we had to ask about his online interactions with fans.

"The ones that believe we manipulate everything, it drives me crazy sometimes," he said of the Twitter comments he receives. " 'How dare you let James go from "Idol"!' 'We know that you hate Haley!' This is just crazy. I always end up having to go, 'You morons out there ...' or something like that, and realize that I'm arguing with 7- or 8-year-olds from Wisconsin.

"It's annoying, because 'Idol' of all shows, really goes with what the public demands, whether we like it or not," he insisted. "And of course we didn't like to see Casey going. We didn't like to see Pia going. We didn't like to see James going. But someone has to go, by the very nature of it being a competition."

That said, the producers do control certain aspects of the show, such as performance order. But while some fans (Cantiello included) complained about the way the top four were shuffled around for their second performances last week, Lythgoe explained that there was a very logical reason behind having James Durbin sing both first and last.

"James opened the week before," he said. "He opened it again [last] week, which is not the great spot to be in, and then we changed him to the last [for the second song], so it was fairer. So when Standards and Practices said to us, 'Why is he opening twice?' Well he's opening twice because there are four songs in that first genre, he's the uptempo one. You don't want to open the show with a ballad, so you start with an uptempo song. And he's last because he's due to be last, because he's opened the show for two weeks now.

"That was all it was," he continued. "God forbid logic comes into a megalomaniac fan that just wants their #1 to win and everything else is: The world's against them!"

Cali Swag District Respond To M-Bone's Death

'We're just gonna leave it up to the law right now because there's really nothing we can do,' C-Smoove says in video posted by TMZ.

With the hip-hop community mourning the death of Mante "M-Bone" Talbert, TMZ caught up with his Cali Swag bandmates C-Smoove and JayAre and got their reaction to the 22-year old dancer's demise.

The first order of business for C-Smoove was to clear up any misconceptions surrounding the events of Sunday, May 15. TMZ has previously reported that M-Bone's death may have come at the hands of a "jealous man" who was envious of the group's success.

"I wanna clear up: It had nothing to do with gang violence, it wasn't nothing like that. It was just a 'wrong place at the wrong time' situation. We just gotta stay strong for the homey," C-Smoove says in the video posted on the gossip site. "We don't know who's responsible for it or what the case may be. It's just bad, man. We're just gonna leave it up to the law right now because there's really nothing we can do."

It's unclear whether any members of CSD actually witnessed the murder, but C-Smoove goes on to describe the drive-by shooting which ultimately claimed M-Bone's life. "He went to the store to get something to drink and, randomly, somebody pulls up, don't say no words, don't shoot a lot of shots, just did what they had to do and got on. It had to be something, but we really can't tell exactly what it was."

In the next portion of the clip, Smoove breaks down in tears. After the unseen interviewer asks the two rappers what they would say to M-Bone's family, Smoove begins to cry. "We are his family," he says, his voice cracking.

JayAre goes on to detail the group's special bond with M-Bone. "We was the closest thing Mante had [to family]. He was always on his own and when we started Cali Swag, we tried to do a family," he explained. "He was a brother to me. He meant a lot. I don't even feel the same without him."

The Inglewood Police Department is asking anyone with information to come forward and call its homicide division at (310) 412-5246 or its 24-hour anonymous hotline number, (888) 41 CRIME, or (888) 412-7463.

Pearl Jam Say 'Twenty' Documentary Shows 'Highs, Lows'

Cameron Crowe-directed retrospective set to premiere in September.

On October 22, 1990, Mookie Blaylock played their first official show at the Off Ramp Cafe in Seattle. Rock historians would come to imbue this event with understandable import: After all, Mookie Blaylock would go on to become Pearl Jam, one of the most important rock outfits of the past two decades. And now, with the 20th anniversary of that debut show on the horizon, the members of Pearl Jam are looking back for the first time in their careers — and they still can't believe they've made it this far.

Luckily, they've got Cameron Crowe to help them remember their journey from Seattle mid-carders to one of the biggest acts on the planet. He's directed a documentary called, appropriately enough, "Pearl Jam Twenty," that culls through more than 1,200 hours of rare footage — plus 24 hours of recently shot interviews — to provide a definitive look at the band's legendary career.

The film is reportedly set to premiere in September — though, on Monday, PBS announced it would broadcast it in October as part of its "American Masters" series — meaning that, at long last, guitarist Mike McCready, one of Pearl Jam's founding members, is being forced to come to terms with his band's own mortality.

"Yeah, it all went very quickly," he said, laughing. "There were many highs and lows throughout our career, and many arcs of creativity [and] tragedies ... that run the whole gamut of human emotions, being in this. From being in a band with guys for 20 years, and having fights and making up, and being brothers in a way, looking out for each other."

And part of what appeals to McCready about Crowe's film is that it somehow manages to tie all of those things together into one cohesive and comprehensive work — one that had even the longtime guitarist getting a bit nostalgic.

"When I saw the early ... edits of it, I thought it was very interesting and kind of exciting and, like I said, it runs the gamut of all those emotions," he explained. "And it actually put in some sort of musical perspective the past 20 years, like, 'Oh yeah, we did do that, we did do this': the Ticketmaster thing, there was Roskilde, there were all these issues, and there were these great highs and interesting beginnings. The story it tells is: Why did it work, and why does it still? It made more sense when I saw the movie."

But "Twenty" isn't the only thing Pearl Jam have in store for fans to commemorate the occasion: They've also announced plans for a Labor Day weekend concert alongside the likes of the Strokes, Queens of the Stone Age and Mudhoney, and, as McCready hinted, there might even be some new music on the way. Or maybe not. After all, all this nostalgia takes up a lot of time.

"Jeff [Ament] and Ed [Vedder] were really wanting to do more music in the terms of, 'It's our 20th anniversary. Let's celebrate that, but let's also do some new music,' and we're all into that," McCready said. "So, you may see some new music, you may not. I know we're going to record some new music this year; it may not be finished by the end of the year."

Will Arnold Schwarzenegger Love-Child Scandal Affect His Movie Career?

Posted: 16 May 2011 11:35 PM PDT

'Philandering has rarely, if ever, hurt anyone's career in Hollywood,' one expert tells MTV News.

As Arnold Schwarzenegger makes plans to resurrect his career in Hollywood after seven years in the California governor's mansion, the 63-year-old actor-turned-politician-turned-actor again made the startling revelation that he'd fathered a child with a member of his family's household staff.

In recent weeks, Schwarzenegger's name had cropped up in a number of potential projects, some more realistic than others, from the Brad Furman-directed drama "Cry Macho" and a fifth "Terminator" to a wild rumor about a sequel to the 1988 comedy "Twins." The question now is how, if at all, Arnie's revelation — following news that his wife of 25 years, Maria Shriver, was leaving him — will affect his plans to kick-start a movie career.

"This will, essentially, go away," said David Poland of Movie City News. "He'll be on 'Leno' next week to put this all behind him. Maybe two weeks — depends on how much the kid looks like him and how many weeks the tabloids run the photo on the front page. But eating this privately is not his way."

Disclosures about Schwarzenegger's bad behavior, of course, are nothing new. As Jeffrey Wells of Hollywood Elsewhere put it, "It's been an industry legend for a long time that Arnold Schwarzenegger is a hound." Back in 2003, during his recall election to unseat then-Governor Gray Davis, stories abounded about Schwarzenegger's boorish behavior with women "on movie sets, in studio offices and in other settings over the last three decades stories," as the Los Angeles Times wrote at the time.

Those allegations didn't prevent Arnie from winning the election and serving as governor for two terms, and industry insiders suggest this latest development is unlikely to trip up his moviemaking potential. "Philandering has rarely, if ever, hurt anyone's career in Hollywood," said Jeff Bock, box-office analyst for Exhibitor Relations. "He has already taken the proper steps by admitting his transgressions and facing the press directly. And on his career side, his role as the Governator only stoked his box-office cred, as he is hotter than ever, moving forward with several high-profile film projects. I don't think this comes as a shock to anyone, as people have known for quite some time that Schwarzenegger is something of a lady's man."

The point is that, from politicians to actors and beyond, people tend to be forgiven over time for their sexual misadventures. The public is less merciful when scandals involve matters beyond the bedroom. Just ask perhaps the most toxic man in Hollywood.

"The Mel Gibson controversy hung around because of how shocking it was," said Phil Contrino, editor of BoxOffice.com. "Arnold made a very human mistake here, and I think people can forgive something like this relatively easily."

If anything, the real challenge for Schwarzenegger is not if he can withstand this scandal, but how successfully he can transform his career at age 63. Should he follow the path of someone like Clint Eastwood, who transitioned from gunslinger to Oscar darling? Or perhaps Sylvester Stallone, who continues to churn out action-oriented fare well into his 60s? On this question, Hollywood observers are split.

"He needs to figure out what his onscreen character will be for this, his third act in the movie biz," Poland said. "Young and dumb was first. In control was second act. And now? Figuring out who the audience wants him to be is really his biggest challenge."

Next week, the New Directions will be taking their antics to New York City for the finale of "Glee," but this week the group is mourning the loss of one of their own in the episode aptly titled "Funeral."

MTV News had the pleasure of catching up with "Glee" stars Chord Overstreet and Jenna Ushkowitz at the Fox upfront on Monday in New York City, where they opened up about the emotional episode airing Tuesday night (May 17). "There's eight of the 'Glee' kids that are definitely not dying, and then the other four you're gonna have to guess," Overstreet teased. "The four that it's going to be down to, it's going to be down to Lea [Michelle], Cory [Monteith], Schuester [Matt Morrison] and Jane Lynch, those guys are up.

"I'm kidding," he continued about any of those people actually dying on the show. "There's going to be a death in the cast and the person that dies is very important in the show and that's all I can say. Everyone's going to be surprised, but I think it shows a dramatic side to everybody in the cast. It's a good episode; it's really strong."

Ushkowitz went on to confirm who doesn't die. "Somebody does die ... Tina Cohen-Chang [Ushkowitz's character] does not die," she laughed. "I don't die. Anything is possible, but I don't think any of us expected a funeral on the show."

She added that while castmembers were going around set worried that they might be knocked off, fans will be surprised by who bids a final fond farewell on the show. "So it definitely was shocking. At first, we were all scared [it might be us], but it's kind of shocking [regardless], and I think that's kind of why we did it. I think [fans will definitely be] shocked and I don't think anyone expected anyone to die, and it affects everyone, everybody in the cast. It'll be interesting to see what people think."

There is much rumor and speculation surrounding the May 15 shooting death of Cali Swag District member Mante "M-Bone" Talbert, 22.

At press time, TMZ was reporting that Bone was possibly murdered by a "jealous man," who threatened Talbert over Twitter. An unnamed woman, claiming to be M-Bone's girlfriend, told the popular website that the man lived in their apartment complex and was envious of Cali Swag District's success. She went on to tell TMZ that at around 10 p.m., Bone used her car and said that he was going to the studio.

The gossip site is also reporting that a man known as "Bubba" was in the car with M-Bone when the shooting occurred. After the shots were fired, Bubba, who made a cameo in the group's "Teach Me How to Dougie" music video, was struck with shards of glass in the face and hospitalized for his wounds.

As of Tuesday morning (May 17), the Inglewood Police homicide division could not confirm any of this information for MTV News.

What Inglewood PD homicide Sgt. Brian Spencer could confirm to us is that at about 10:30 p.m. PT Sunday night, police were called to the 400 block of North La Brea Boulevard in Inglewood. When they arrived on the scene they found Talbert seated in the driver's seat of a black vehicle with at least two gunshots to the head. M-Bone was then taken to a local hospital but eventually succumbed to his injuries.

In a statement released on Monday, a rep for Cali Swag said that M-Bone "was the victim of a random act of violence."

Bone was one-fourth of the group that rose to fame with their 2010 platinum single "Teach Me How to Dougie." The song was an ode to the dance popularized by 1980s rap legend Doug E. Fresh, and its remix featured Jermaine Dupri, B.o.B, Bow Wow and Red Café.

The Inglewood Police Department is asking anyone with information to come forward and call its homicide division at (310) 412-5246 or its 24-hour anonymous hotline number, (888) 41 CRIME, or (888) 412-7463.

Everyone loves OFWGKTA. In an exclusive sit-down with MTV News, Nas spoke on his upcoming work with Odd Future singer/songwriter Frank Ocean.

In April, the Illmatic rapper tweeted, "In the studio with my little n---a @frank_ocean," and just last week he opened up to Sway about the collaboration and Ocean's appeal.

"He's new, he's fresh. He doesn't sound fly-by-night. The moment you hear it — I hear what he's sayin', and I relate. He got me as soon as I heard it," Nas said.

The Queensbridge MC, who, like Ocean, is signed to Def Jam, feels that the 23-year-old talent has already proved he has chops. "He's a Def Jam artist that's been slept-on and he's proven himself. He's proven himself and I think he has a lot to offer," the rapper explained. "We met, he played some music and we're excited. We'll see what happens. Nothing's totally complete, but we have started recording some things."

Frank Ocean has earned critical acclaim thanks to the release of Nostalgia, Ultra, a free Internet album he released on his Tumblr page in February. The album's de facto single, "Novacane," has gained momentum, debuting at #65 this week on Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. In addition to Nas, the singer has been in the studio writing for Justin Bieber, Brandy and John Legend and recently had a session with Beyoncé.

Game's Manager Jimmy 'Henchman' Rosemond Wanted By Feds

Czar Entertainment boss Jimmy "Henchman" Rosemond, who manages the careers of the Game and Sean Kingston, among others, was reportedly on the run on Tuesday (May 17) after federal authorities issued an arrest warrant for him in connection with a drug case.

The New York Post reported that the warrant was issued last week after the feds indicted Rosemond for his alleged involvement in a cocaine distribution ring. At press time, the paper said Rosemond had not yet been found and that an unnamed law enforcement source confirmed that there was a fugitive warrant out for the hip-hop mogul.

Just hours after the story broke, Rosemond's lawyer, Jeffrey Lichtman, told MTV News that he had not seen the arrest warrant or indictment but that he was aware of the case. "I've spoke to Jimmy and this is not a surprise," he said. "We've been defending this in the pre-indictment stage for years now."

What he was surprised by, though, was that he did not know about the arrest warrant until he read about it in the New York tabloid. Lichtman said that considering the narcotics investigation has been going on for an unspecified number of years, he knew it was "inevitable" that charges would be brought, but that he didn't know when it might happen.

"I don't dispute the fact that there is an arrest warrant, but I haven't seen it," he said. "I suppose they're looking for him now, and when they find him, the case will start." Asked if Rosemond would turn himself in to face the charges, Lichtman said he did not know.

Rosemond has a colorful past, and last year, the New York Daily News reported that he had been named in court records as an informant for state and federal law enforcement officials dating back to the mid-1990s. His former lawyers requested leniency in a Los Angeles gun case against Rosemond by citing his repeated cooperation with authorities.

In 2008, Rosemond called for the firing of former Los Angeles Times reporter Chuck Phillips after the journalist implicated Rosemond in an article claiming that he was among the men behind the 1994 ambush of late rapper Tupac Shakur at a New York recording studio.

The previous year, Rosemond's then-14-year-old son was allegedly roughed up by G-Unit member Tony Yayo as part of an alleged ongoing beef between G-Unit and Czar, who split ways in 2005; the charges against Yayo were dropped a year later when he pleaded to a lesser crime of noncriminal harassment.

Lady Gaga Says Born This Way Is 'My Answer To Many Questions'

In one week, Lady Gaga finally releases Born This Way, which she once touted as "the greatest album of this decade." In a new interview with the Metro newspaper, Lady Gaga opens up a bit more about what this album means.

"Born This Way is my answer to many questions over the years: Who are you? What are you about? ... The most paramount theme on the record is me struggling to understand how I can exist as myself as someone who lives halfway between fantasy and reality all the time," she explained in the lengthy chat.

When asked if she uses her personality to market her music, she said, "It's kind of like saying, 'Are you honest? Do you have integrity? Are you full of sh--?' But listen, my social involvement for equality and gay rights, as well as my music, is completely genuine. But I don't think I ever want everyone to ever know fully who or what I am."

Gaga further discussed her personal goals and motivations. "Part of what I'm doing is asking you to look inside yourself, to ask yourself questions," she maintained. "I have a close relationship with my family. I'm very close with my fans and I'm in tune with what they want. And I'm in tune with myself, too. At the end of the day, I have to look myself in the mirror and I'm proud of everything I stand for. I have no reason to do or say anything unless it comes from my soul. I work very hard. I don't party very much. You don't see me falling out of nightclubs and buying Range Rovers. Social justice and music are the two most paramount things in my life and I can't put it more plainly."

In other Gaga news, Metro.co.uk will stream all 14 songs on Born This Way starting on Wednesday in anticipation of the album's official release next week. Meanwhile, Gaga visited the London offices of Metro on Monday, where she served as guest editor of the newspaper.

"Dear monsters, let your identity be your religion," wrote Gaga. "Little monsters are not a fan base. They are a culture that exists entirely outside of pop music. They are their own religion. They are a race within the race of humanity."

After delaying the premiere of her "Run the World (Girls)" video, MTV News has confirmed that Beyoncé will finally drop the video on Wednesday during "American Idol."

A label rep confirms that the video will hit the Web and other networks shortly after the West Coast broadcast of the show. "Run the World (Girls)" was originally slated to debut online last Friday, but a rep for Vevo.com confirmed to MTV News at the time that Beyoncé and her team were still putting the finishing touches on the Francis Lawrence-directed video.

A teaser for the video gave fans a taste of what they could expect from the full-length clip. In it, Beyoncé, dressed in high-fashion couture, and her super-cool-looking supermodel pals fend off an opposing army in a post-apocalyptic world.

"It'll be big, it'll probably be one of the bigger Beyoncé music videos ever done," Lawrence told MTV News recently. "And I can say that I think the song is unbelievable." He added, "I think the video's gonna be really fun and cool and different for her."

The song is the lead single off Beyoncé's forthcoming album 4. "It's definitely riskier than something a bit more ... simple," the singer told Billboard.com. "I just heard the track and loved that it was so different. It felt a bit African, a bit electronic and futuristic. It reminded me of what I love, which is mixing different cultures and eras — things that typically don't go together — to create a new sound.

"I can never be safe; I always try and go against the grain. As soon as I accomplish one thing, I just set a higher goal," she continued. "That's how I've gotten to where I am."

Will 'Twilight Saga' Star Jamie Campbell Bower Join 'Mortal Instruments'?

Last week when Lily Collins stopped by the MTV Newsroom, the 22-year-old "Mortal Instruments" star apologized to fans that the casting of her onscreen love interest — the strong-headed Jace Wayland — had stretched on so long and promised that they'd eventually find the right guy.

According to a new report from TheWrap, the fight to become that "right guy" is now down to three actors: Jamie Campbell Bower (of the "Twilight Saga" films), Ed Speleers ("Eragon") and newcomer Leebo Freeman. All three hopefuls reportedly tested with Collins late last week on the Sony Pictures lot.

A rep for Screen Gems, the studio behind the project, told MTV News, "We have no comment other than we are actively casting." Our requests for comments from the actors' reps were not immediately returned.

Back in January, Alex Pettyfer ("I Am Number Four") appeared to be the front-runner for the role of Jace, with reports even suggesting that he'd been offered the part. But nothing solid was nailed down, and now some new names have entered the mix.

"It's been a long process," Collins admitted to us last week. "In the process of casting something like this, where the characters are so pivotal and people are so enthusiastic, we don't want to do it wrong. If you rush it, people aren't as happy. Or you take the time and really seek out the right person to play the role.

"I totally understand everyone wanting to know right away, and I do too — I'm as excited as everyone else," she added. "I'm an avid fan and reader. But there's no way to speed up a process when we want to do it right."

Do you think Bower is a good choice for the Jace role? Share your opinions in the comments.
