Already a successful documentary film, Justin Bieber's flick, "Never Say Never," hits the streets Friday (May 13) on DVD.

The film is an in-depth look at Bieber's meager beginnings as he puts in the work to become a pop megastar. It features interviews and concert footage, and as Bieber once explained to MTV News, he hopes it finally quiets his haters who might think he's some pre-packaged pop phenom.

"People didn't really know," he explained to MTV News. "They didn't understand that I've been playing music ever since I was born, and it's always been in me. And this movie is really going to show that I'm not just some packaged thing that some A&R put together. It was actually just me living my dream and just making music."

The film is an eye-catching look at the life of the star, and there are some very memorable moments. Here are our Top 5.

His Hair Swoop in 3-D
OK, the hair really did help make Bieber a star, and in a pre-haircut world, those bangs had girls swooning. Turns out, when you have Bieber swoosh his bangs around in slow-motion 3-D, it really puts butts in theater seats.

His Grandfather's Taxidermy
Going home with Bieber is particularly interesting (you get to see his childhood bedroom!), but seeing him play with his grandfather's stuffed dead animals, well, that's priceless.

Vintage Videos
Whether he's singing on a stoop or meeting with Usher, these vintage clips paint a picture of a young man dedicated to getting his voice heard. They help shape the story of Bieber's life and the movie's arc.

Meeting Bieber's Team
Getting to know the men and women who work tirelessly to keep Bieber happy really gives fans the nitty gritty of what it takes to keep the Bieber machine on track.

The Performances
Never been to a Bieber concert? No problem. These glittery 3-D moments give viewers a perfect idea of what a Bieber show is like: screaming fans, A-list cameos (Miley Cyrus, Usher) and all.

Will you buy the "Never Say Never" DVD this weekend? What are you excited to see? Tell us in the comments below!

James Durbin Sent Home In 'American Idol' Shocker

Lauren Alaina, Scotty McCreery and Haley Reinhart make up top three.

This part of the "American Idol" season is full of stress and nerves. In theory, we're down to the four very best contestants, picked from more than 100,000 wannabes, and it's painful to see any of them go. But the awkward tension following the judges' Haley Reinhart pile-on Wednesday night made Thursday night's (May 12) results show even more intense.

Clearly fans were invested in supporting their favorites, because, according to host Ryan Seacrest, more than 72 million votes were cast Wednesday, the highest top-four total ever. And America obviously still loves an underdog, because even after openly sneering at the judges and putting on both the worst and best performances of the night, Reinhart growled her way from certain oblivion into the top three while rocker-with-a-heart-of-gold James Durbin went down in a blaze of glory.

Pundits did not see that one coming, with our experts predicting that it was teen Lauren Alaina who might be sent into the void, or at the very least Reinhart. But the first person to be waved into the top three was Alaina, making her the youngest contestant to ever make it this far and guaranteeing her a hometown parade and celebration in Rossville, Georgia, on Saturday.

Then Ryan dropped the bombshell: Haley was also safe. The shocked look on Randy Jackson's face said it all. That meant that either James or Scotty were on the chopping block, and both looked as nervous as they've been all season.

When Ryan called Scotty's name, the country kid looked relieved, as the pain on Durbin's face was palpable. He was giving the OK sign to his fiancée, but it was clear James was struggling to keep it together. As he watched his farewell package, the emotional rocker gritted his teeth, jumped up and down and fought back tears. Jennifer Lopez could not, though, as she cried while giving JD a standing ovation.

"Man, I worked so damn hard to get here," Durbin said. "And ... God, I was really hoping to get there, but I had a feeling today. ... I did so much stuff that's never been done on this show before. ... In my eyes, in my mind and what I believe is that I did what I came here to do, and that was to give metal a chance," he said, his voice cracking, his face wet with tears. "And to bring it and give 110 percent every week!"

Pulling it back together again, Durbin serenaded the IdolDome one more time with Wings' "Maybe I'm Amazed," grabbing a hug in the audience from pal Casey Abrams and an embrace from his fiancée, the mother of his young son. Ending on a tender high note, Durbin created one of the most emotional sendoffs in recent "Idol" memory on a night when few predicted that he was even in the running to pack his bags. "Thank you! You guys are the best!" he told the audience. "I love all of you. Thank you so much. This is amazing! Amazing!" He ended, of course, with a big rock jump and a toss of his black jacket into the crowd.

The evening began on such a different note, with Scotty and James trying to harmonize on the Brad Paisley/ Keith Urban giddy-up tune "Start a Band," which they attempted to turn into a "he's a little bit country and he's a little bit rock and roll" hoedown. Then the girls gave Miranda Lambert's "Gunpowder and Lead" a shot, and while Lauren sounded in the pocket, her cocked Colt .45 gestures were a bit off-putting and Haley just couldn't pull off the country sound.

This week's mentor, Lady Gaga, also performed on the show — kind of. The top four watched a taped performance from one of Gaga's Monster Ball Tour stops in New York, during which she played the tune Reinhart was dinged for trying on the show just a week ago, the new Born This Way power ballad "You and I." Enrique Iglesias brought along his green lasers for a run through his new single "Dirty Dancer" as well as the smash "I Like It."

Season-six "Idol" winner Jordin Sparks also dropped in to sing her new girl-power anthem, "I Am Woman," proclaiming her womanhood loudly and proudly while rocking a silver trench coat, a body-hugging black minidress and heels while rocking out to the Beyoncé-like R&B jam.

And, in keeping with the judges' (and Jimmy Iovine's) ceaseless shilling this season, Steven Tyler debuted the exotic animal-infested video for his debut solo single, the smooth pop/rock trifle "(It) Feels So Good."

But in the end, even with all those celebrity cameos, the lasting image from Thursday night will be Durbin standing center stage, his eyes wet with emotion, reveling in his final moments in the spotlight.

Lady Gaga's 'Edge Of Glory' Inspired By Late Grandfather

Song's co-producer, DJ White Shadow, opens up to MTV News about latest Born This Way track.

Lady Gaga's "Edge of Glory" is a pure pop track about the glory of love, but it seems that those warm, fuzzy feelings come from a very sad place for the pop star. Co-producer DJ White Shadow — who worked on the track with Gaga and Fernando Garibay — shared with MTV News the personal tragedy that sparked the Born This Way song.

"We had just all got back to Europe, after Lady Gaga had taken a break to spend time with her grandfather who was in the hospital, before he passed away. She explained to us that she had written a song about it," he said in an email. "As she often would, she came in with the melody and lyrics. She told us about what an impact the event had on her."

The song not only was poignant for the star, but also White Shadow, who felt really moved by Gaga's track. "We worked on it backstage, changing little things with the melody and lyrics; I don't remember what city to be honest. But I remember crying when I heard her sing it the first time," he recalled. "I also remember them throwing us out of the venue because we were there so late listening to it."

"Edge" is sonically different from "Judas" and the album's title track, but White Shadow said emotionally, the songs are all very similar. "I think you will see a couple really emotional and complex songs on the album. I am so proud of her. She really put a lot of herself into the record; it genuinely hurts me when people take digs at her," he said. "You all know her as this monster, this invincible creature, but she is like my little sister.

"As a person, I know how hard she worked. I watched her put these songs together," he continued. "I know how much work and love she put into this album. I also know how much of it she had to do (to succeed by today's standard) versus what she did do (to succeed by her standard). At any rate, she gets a lot of mud slung at her, and there are a lot of real a--holes out there, trying to sh-- on her and f--- her over to make themselves look good. I just hope, when this record comes out, everyone will see, like I do, her genuine talent, vision, and love for life and her fans."

Enrique Iglesias Brings 'Dirty Dancer' To 'American Idol'

On the same day he announced cities and dates for his fall arena tour, Enrique Iglesias took to the "American Idol" stage Thursday (May 12) to perform his new single, "Dirty Dancer," along with a rendition of his smash hit "I Like It," both from his 2010 album Euphoria.

Iglesias opened the performance with "Dirty Dancer" under a single spotlight, but soon the stage was lit with multiple spots and a bevy of lasers. Iglesias — dressed in blue jeans and a black leather jacket, his hair artfully disheveled — was backed by a video-screened Usher, who performed on the large wall behind him, as well as a full band and a team of backup singers. "She's a dirty, dirty dancer/ Dirty, dirty dancer/ Never ever lonely," Iglesias sang, telling the cautionary tale of a comely-yet-dangerous female (isn't that always the case?).

After a verse and a chorus, Iglesias switched gears and dove into "I Like It," his blockbuster single, which hit #4 on Billboard's Hot 100 last year. Fans flooded the "Idol" stage and jumped in unison, as Iglesias — who turned 36 earlier this week — high-fived them and bounced along. Balloons dropped from the ceiling, lending the song an even more celebratory, New Year's Eve-type feel. Iglesias waded into the throng of fans and urged them to wave their hands from side to side and let some of them fill in for him on vocal duties. As he made his way out of the group of fans, he popped a balloon with his microphone.

At the close of his performance, Iglesias — who made headlines in March when he dropped off Britney Spears' summer tour — gave props to the "Idol" enterprise. "You're amazing, 'American Idol'!" he said, as he was embraced by fans at the foot of the stage.

Saigon Recalls Trying To Reignite Mark Wahlberg's Rap Career

Rapper/actor laughs about getting in his 'Entourage' executive producer's ear after one too many drinks, on 'RapFix Live.'

On Wednesday, during another fresh edition of "RapFix Live" — which featured super producer Just Blaze on the couch and Atlanta MC Soulja Boy via Skype — Brooklyn's own Saigon delighted viewers with tales of his ups and downs in the rap game.

Some fans will remember Sai, a charismatic rapper with a checkered past, from his guest appearances on the HBO hit show "Entourage." Appearing on a handful of episodes between 2005 and 2006, Saigon played a version of himself as an up-and-coming rapper who was under the managerial tutelage of Turtle (Jerry Ferrara).

Sai shared a humorous story about how — after drinking one too many — he tried to get one of the show's executive producers, Mark Wahlberg, to dust off his Marky Mark persona and hop back into the rap scene.

"You know, I got drunk with Mark Wahlberg one time," Saigon told host Sway. "I don't think he was drunk, but I was drunk. We was at one of them parties and I was in his ear, I'm like, 'Yo man, you ever thought about doing a new album, man?' And he's looking at me like, 'Is this kid retarded or something?' "

Saigon kept trying to rope the stunned Hollywood star back into the world of rap. "I was like, 'Yo, man, I feel the '[Good] Vibrations' joint. Marky Mark, that sh-- was hard! We was rocking that in the 'hood,' " Saigon laughed. "I ain't gonna lie, I liked the song when it came out."

Maybe Saigon can rally up the rest of the Funky Bunch for a reunion?

Do you think Saigon and Mark should team up for a rap collabo? Tell us in the comments!

Haley Reinhart Fans Speak Out On 'Idol Party Live'

Posted: 12 May 2011 02:54 AM PDT

But New York Times pop music critic Jon Caramanica disagrees with Haley supporters.
By Gil Kaufman

By the time you get down to four singers on "American Idol," the fanbases for the remaining singers tend to be very fiercely divided. And after Wednesday night's controversial showdown between judge Randy Jackson and singer Haley Reinhart, you can bet those fan clusters were even more at odds.

But when New York Times pop music critic Jon Caramanica dropped in to discuss Haleygate on Thursday's (May 12) "Idol Party Live," nobody expected the sparks to fly again when JC (no, not Scotty McCreery's JC, but Caramanica) and the other JC (wow, that's weird), "Party" host Jim Cantiello, and Reinhart's Twitter brigade clashed over the harsh treatment the singer received from the Big Dog.

Anyone who's been paying attention this season knows Cantiello is a huge Haley booster, and he was happy to read some tweets in favor of his girl. "We all unanimously voted her the winner," read a tweet from season-eight contestant Casey Carlson, who was at a viewing party attended by fellow past "Idol" contestants Didi Benami and Allison Iraheta. "I hate it when contestants have attitude, but Haley's was justified. I voted for the first time in a couple years," read another tweet.

Cantiello said he's never a fan of the backtalk from contestants, but he felt Reinhart's pain and said he would make an exception in this case. (See who our "Idol" experts predicted would go home on Thursday night over on the Newsroom blog.)

That's when Caramanica had to put his foot down. "I think people look at Haley Reinhart last night and they're think, 'Oh, she has attitude, she's so indignant, she's so mad.' No, Haley Reinhart is like in prison in a foreign country and doesn't speak the language," he argued. "So she's not understanding what's happening. She doesn't see it. They're speaking to her, and she understands the tone is negative, but she doesn't know what any of the words mean. She's looking at them and trying to parcel it out. 'I think it's bad. I'm upset, but mostly I'm frustrated.' "

Other tweets took the judges to task for dinging Reinhart over her hoarse rendition of Michael Jackson's "Earth Song," pointing out that criticizing her inspirational pick made it seem personal. Cantiello agreed, but Caramanica, well, didn't.

"That's like the least inspirational inspirational song ever," he argued. "Like, Michael Jackson's mad about the environment, he's mad about war, he's mad about raised prices at McDonald's. ... The things he's mad about in that song are so inane, and I think Haley just looked at the words and said, 'This is positive.' "

Caramanica did have to give it up for Reinhart's second performance, "I Who Have Nothing," which he said was far and away the best of the night, if only because "Earth Song" was such a BP oil-spill level disaster. "I think J.Lo put it best early in the season," he said. "Haley has really no sense of how to center her body behind the microphone, she has no sense of how to perform."

And while Scotty's weird sideways microphone technique comes off as an oddball aesthetic, Caramanica said Reinhart's off-kilter tilting just makes it seem like she's about to fall over.

"This is what I've been saying about Haley Reinhart since day one," Cantiello shot back. "The judges loved when the boys were quirky and were doing weird tics onstage. Haley Reinhart gets up and does 'Fallin' ' and does similar stuff, and they call her out. Why was Paul McDonald allowed to be a teetering-over mess, and Haley's not allowed to?"

What do you think about the Haley Reinhart discussion on "Idol Party Live"? Let us know in comments below.

Incarcerated in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, rapper Lil Boosie has been on 23-hour lockdown since June, and in an interview with XXL magazine, he expressed frustration from behind bars.

"Some days I'm maintaining, but I'm missing my family and the life I had out there," Boosie told the website. "My first seven months I was in population, but since June, I've been on 23-hour lockdown."

According to the Dirty South MC, the lockdown is intended for his own protection due to his celebrity. "They said they're trying to protect me because of who I am," he continued. "They got people get stabbed here, killed here. Pretty rough people here. A lot of rats here, snitches."

Boosie, who is currently locked up on probation violation, is facing a murder charge in the first degree and can possibly face the death penalty if convicted. The charge stems from the October 2009 murder of Terry Boyd. Boosie is accused of paying men to kill Boyd. In addition, the rapper is facing separate drug and conspiracy charges. He has pleaded not guilty to all the charges against him. While he awaits trial, the East Baton Rouge DA's office is building its case and looking to link Boosie to an additional five murders. The Trill Ent. rapper feels he is being unfairly targeted.

"[I'm here] 'cause of the songs I made, before I was indicted, about the police in Baton Rouge and what's going on here," he said. "There's a lot with our record label, that the system don't like. ... They took my hard drive out of my house after I got arrested. I have albums for days in there. They still haven't returned it. They've had it for damn near a year now. I need that music."

Despite the turmoil that he is facing, Boosie looks forward to the day he can walk out of prison and Louisiana.

"I'm leaving Louisiana the first day I get out of prison," Boosie said. "I'm a major target down here. I'll thank God for everything and get back to the money."

Stay tuned to MTV News for updates on Lil Boosie's upcoming murder trial.

Lily Collins Laughs Off 'Snow White' Director's Eyebrow Obsession

'It's good to know he has a strong vision of what he wants Snow White to look like,' she tells MTV News of Tarsem Singh.
By Eric Ditzian

At WonderCon last month, "Snow White" director Tarsem Singh laughingly told almost every outlet in San Francisco that he cast Lily Collins as his fairy-tale heroine because of her eyebrows. "I just saw her eyebrows and I said, 'That's Snow White,' " he told MTV News.

The press went wild with the suggestion that her brows — as opposed to, say, her talent — landed her the coveted role opposite Julia Roberts' Evil Queen. That couldn't be further from the truth. But still, we were left wondering: Did Lily's eyebrows really draw in Tarsem when they first met?

"He told me he likes my eyebrows," Collins said to MTV News in a recent interview. "That came up maybe as a joke at the end of our long conversation. He's a very funny guy, and he's got a great sense of humor, and I think he threw that out as part of a joke, and everyone seemed to catch on.

"But I'm glad he liked my eyebrows. It's a compliment," she added. "It's good to know he has a strong vision of what he wants Snow White to look like, and I'm very glad I'm a part of that."

A "strong vision" is an understatement. At WonderCon, Tarsem described his "Snow White" aesthetic as incorporating Gaudi's architecture into an England-based locale, inspired by turn-of-the-century Russian films and directed by an Indian director. As for his costumes, he declared, "I never know how actors give you all the trust, because the stuff that I make people wear does not look ridiculous — it looks ridiculous."

The day after she stopped by the MTV Newsroom, Collins was set to go in for her first costume fitting. She didn't know what to expect, except that it would indeed be outrageous. "They've taken my sizes and they've gone off and designed whatever crazy costumes Tarsem has in mind," she said. "I've heard him describe his vision on this, yet I haven't actually seen ideas yet or sketches or anything. So I'm going to walk into this completely unaware and walk out probably dumbfounded with excitement. It's going to be amazing whatever it is, because Tarsem is the definition of a true visionary."

Black Cobain Reps Rap And Rock And Roll In The DMV

Fire Starter: Black Cobain
Virginia rapper Black Cobain isn't a culture vulture, he just happens to like both rock and roll and hip-hop. Oh yeah, he's also one of rap's rising talents thanks to his recently released single "4 AM," which features Wale.

"Very controversial with some of the people that worship Kurt Cobain," Cobain told Mixtape Daily about his MC moniker.

The first half of his name was already in place. "Actually, Black is my childhood name. And I had an uncle that I stayed with who introduced me to the genre of music, rock and roll. So I was listening to Aerosmith, Nirvana, Green Day," he explained. "I just thought it would be a dope idea to put the names together and have it as the name for me due to the fact that I'm a fan of hip-hop and rock and roll."

The Alexandria native was introduced to the world of MC'ing through local open mics in the DMV, and he's now linked up with D.C.'s rap ambassador Wale and reps the local crew Board Administration. With his upcoming mixtape Young, Gifted and Black (dropping online in June), Cobain hopes to rep the DMV in a major way, and considering the critical response to "4 AM," he's off to a great start.

"We were in the studio in Philly and it was really coming up on 4 a.m. and we had DJs in there and it was gettin' late and we just wanted to do like a real hip-hop record — that's why we had the scratches in it," Cobain said about the making of the single. "So I just think it was just one of those records where you touch on a few subjects in the rap. It's nothing targeted, no main focus. We just wanted to keep it real hip-hop and it was done at 4 a.m. So we just came up with the name, put it out there and the response was incredible."

Ultimately, though, the rap rookie admits that he is still trying to find his sound, which as of now is rooted in rap. "I'm kinda like on the cusp of hip-hop and trying to find a way to make it mainstream."

Rock on!

On Wednesday night in Los Angeles, Britney Spears' supporters gathered to help the star raise funds for the St. Bernard Project. The Louisiana-based nonprofit helps those affected by Hurricane Katrina to rebuild their homes and their lives. And while much of the talk focused on the good the charity does, MTV News also asked the celeb guests which of Spears' songs would make the final cut on their playlists.

Britney fanatic Selena Gomez said, "Oh goodness! 'Slave 4 U,' that will always be, 'cause that was when it was like, 'Oh, she's not a girl anymore, she's a woman.' The controversy, I loved it!"

Christina Milian preferred one of Brit's more heartfelt songs. " 'Everytime,' it's emotional, and she's beautiful," Milian told us on the event's red carpet, where we saw a number of stars, including Kim Kardashian and Kellan Lutz. "She sang it great."

Spears' "Crossroads" co-star Taryn Manning knew Spears way back when, but her favorite song is a more contemporary Britney tune. " 'Till the World Ends' is incredible," she dished. "I think it's seriously one of her best songs, probably the reason why she went platinum like that."

Sabi, Spears' "(Drop Dead) Beautiful" collaborator, who's set to hit up some Femme Fatale Tour shows this summer, said, "Really, my favorite song had to be 'Toxic' or Slave 4 U. It's between those two. I just think those two are like so sexy, badass songs."

Hilary Duff found it hard to narrow it down. "I like everything," she said. "I liked the whole 'Toxic' thing. I really liked 'Womanizer'."

When Victoria Justice listens to Spears, she likes to kick it old school. "I'm a really big fan of her older stuff," she told us, "So, like, 'Overprotected' and 'Lucky'."

"Vampire Diaries" star Kat Graham enjoys both old and new Britney Spears. "I like 'Hold It Against Me,' I must say. I'm just kind of in with the times right now," she said. "But '... Baby One More Time' is always a classic."

Just Blaze Explains His Fallout With Cam'ron

Former Roc-A-Fella Records producer tells 'RapFix Live' the Diplomats MC told him: 'You should've been Dipset.'
By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway

At its height, there were few labels as compelling as the now-defunct Roc-A-Fella Records. Not only was the label anchored by Jay-Z, but in the early 2000s, Memphis Bleek, Beanie Sigel and Cam'ron all had their collective cliques under the Roc umbrella, and at the center of it all was label producer Just Blaze. Having to balance relationships between the competitive sub-camps got difficult at times, and during Wednesday's "RapFix Live," Just broke down his fallout with former Roc signee Cam'ron.

"Obviously, there was a division starting to happen between the camps," Just told MTV News' Sway Calloway. "Whereas Roc-A-Fella used to encompass Get Low, State Property, Diplomats, M.O.P., all of a sudden you start to see the dissent between different camps, arguments are starting to happen, silent conflicts where neither person is saying, but their actions are making it apparent," he explained.

It was an incident surrounding a Dipset chain that stood out in Just's mind. "I walked into the studio one day and Cam said to me, 'You should've been Dipset,' " he said. "He had just bought like 10 Dipset chains, so I was like, 'I need my chain — wassup?' "

A week passed, and Blaze again asked Cam about securing a Diplomats piece. "He was like, 'Yo, I had the chain but you should've been Dipset,' " Blaze recalled Cam'ron saying. "I said, 'I'm Dipset just as much as I am State Property, just as I am Get Low, just as I am Roc-A-Fella.' "

It was then that the producer noticed the Roc's internal structure with the label's subdivisions was shifting. "Everybody wasn't referring to each other collectively anymore," he explained.

The breaking point in Cam and Blaze's relationship came after a studio mix-up. According to Just, the Diplomats CEO booked studio time, expecting Blaze to show up to work, even though the producer never agreed to the date and time. Around the same time, Blaze reached out to Killa Cam to record a feature he was producing for Mariah Carey.

After exchanging a few emails, the two got on the phone, at which time, according to Blaze, Cam said: "F you, F your beats. It's no drama, we're just not F'in with you no more."

Just Blaze went on to say that Cam'ron eventually apologized and that he harbors no ill will towards the Harlem rapper, but "the relationship was never the same."

The producer insists he has no beef with Cam'ron or the Diplomats, but wouldn't commit to working with Killa anytime soon. "You can't say, like, eight years later, 'Let's feel it like that again,' " Blaze said. "It doesn't work like that. It's not beef, it's not drama, but if the vibe ain't there.

"That being said, I've done records or done beats where I'd be like, 'He would've killed this,' but the lines of communication ain't open like that."

'American Idol' Report Card: Haley's Got Something Judges Can't See

Posted: 11 May 2011 10:48 PM PDT

Her inspirational tune earned demerits from Randy and J.Lo, but we think she belongs at the head of the class.

"Thanks."

With that one little word on "American Idol" Wednesday night, Haley Reinhart offered a devastatingly sarcastic "J'accuse!" for one of the most frustrating seasons in reality show memory. To the judges who have consistently slammed her while praising anything and everything from other contestants, to the judges who last night declared the best first-song performance was a three-way between everyone not named Haley, Ms. Reinhart turned and said, with equal parts frustration, anger and sadness, "Thanks."

And thus, she encapsulated the emotions of so many "Idol" voters, who can't quite understand why Randy Jackson and Jennifer Lopez just don't seem to like Haley, as a singer and a person. Ultimately, though, the voting is up to us, and if this ongoing affaire Reinhart ends up sending the 20-year-old home on Thursday (May 12), we'll have only ourselves to blame.

But enough with the judges! This is a singing competition, not a judging competition (if it had been, everyone would have been sent home months ago). With the task of performing both an inspirational song and a tune from the songbook of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, the contestants had their ups and downs. There were pleasures aplenty, not just from Haley, but from Lauren Alaina too. Scotty McCreery and James Durbin shone at times and stumbled at others. None of these hopefuls, however, can escape our "Idol" report card.

Excellent
Haley Reinhart: "I (Who Have Nothing)"
For the second straight week, Haley was forced to return to the stage for a second song following some nasty criticism. And for the second straight week, she bounced back in big, take-that-you-damn-dirty-judges fashion. She took mentor Lady Gaga's advice to get a little psycho, nailed the high notes and had an "Idol" moment in spite of the judges.

Good
Lauren Alaina: "Anyway"
Perhaps inspired by her "Moulin Rouge"-like get-up, Lauren took on her biggest notes of the season and came out looking like a champ. She started out tentatively, but found her form quickly and didn't let up. But what was J. Lo talking about when she said she's been tough on Lauren at times?

Scotty McCreery: "Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)"
Oh, Scotty, what is there to say at this point? You're a simple guy singing simple songs, and you'll soon be selling millions of them. Did you so much as break a sweat up there? Well, no, but this type of country stuff comes so easily to you. Perfectly competent, perfectly predictable — and neither of those points are bad things.

Haley Reinhart: "Earth Song"
Before she had her "Thanks" moment — our vote for the most delicious moment the entire season — Haley gave a heck of a performance. It was hardly her best of the season. The cover was a little sleepy and there was something a bit predictable about how she went into her growls midway through. Yet the utter disdain Randy and J. Lo showed her was inexcusable. If we've had to put up with Steven Tyler's hollow words all season just so he could turn to his fellow judges and announce how wrong they were, it's all been worth it.

James Durbin: "Love Potion No. 9"
We didn't mind the hard-rock-ification of this song. Here's our issue: James' version of rock star has always smacked of a suburban kid in his bedroom, a boombox turned up to 11 and his parents downstairs begging him to turn that racket off and come down for dinner. In others words, there's something inauthentic and unearned about that persona. At least his vocals this time around were more on-point than during his first tune.

Satisfactory
Lauren Alaina: "Trouble"
Yikes, we've seen smaller shoulder pads on middle linebackers. And we've seen soooo much better from Lauren. The tune started off well enough, but perhaps those Gaga-induced evil thoughts got the best of her, because the second half of the performance utterly fell apart. Either she or Haley is going home on Thursday. Of their four performances, this was the weakest. But seeing as the judges love Lauren and have never fully embraced Haley, anything can happen on elimination night.

James Durbin: "Don't Stop Believin' "
As if the judges needed another reason to fawn over James, the deviously brilliant 22-year-old singer busted out this Journey tune, ensuring that not only former Journey bassist Randy Jackson but his judging cohorts would hoot and holler no matter what the performance sounded like. James has approached this season as if it were "Survivor," and he's not entirely wrong; he's strategized, he's appealed to the soft spots of voters and judges, he's arguably played up his homesickness for maximum "aww" factor. More power to him. This tune was honestly so much fun we could almost ignore the warbling that has been a staple of his vocals all season. Almost.

Unsatisfactory
Scotty McCreery: "Young Blood"
Was Scotty still trembling in his cowboy boots after his run-in with Gaga? Something was clearly off here. His idea of theatricality was to raise his eyebrows up and down so often it looked as if they were trying to leap off his face. We don't blame those brows. This was Scotty at his least flattering, trying to have a good ol' time and instead coming off as an awkward goofball. If this is what Scotty is like when he steps outside the box, we encourage him to hop back in, grab a hold of Alan Jackson's songbook, and never let go.

After sharing stories about her early career, Gaga writes her first column for the mag.

Lady Gaga pays homage to Japan for V magazine's Asian issue, where Gaga is featured on the cover. Gaga poses on the cover in a Mugler lingerie bodysuit with three heads, two of which feature her wearing makeup made of metal and sequins.

In the interview, Elton John talks to the star about her career and Japan. "I have such beautiful memories of Japan and its people," she says in the issue (10 percent of profits from which will be donated to the country). "And when the earthquake happened, I knew saying something just wasn't enough. The little monsters have raised over $2 million purchasing these prayers bracelets I made myself. Let's connect cultures from around the world and rebuild this beautiful country."

Not only does the issue feature an interview and photo spread with Gaga, it also features her first-ever column for the fashion magazine. Writing in business-memo form, Gaga opens up about her creative process and her ability to tune into the evolution of a pop-culture meme.

"Glam culture is ultimately rooted in obsession," she says in the opening lines of the article, "and those of us who are truly devoted and loyal to the lifestyle of glamour are masters of its history. Or, to put it more elegantly, we are librarians. ...

"I myself can look at almost any hemline, silhouette, beadwork or heel architecture and tell you very precisely who designed it first, what French painter they stole it from, how many designers reinvented it after them and what cultural and musical movement parented the birth, death and resurrection of that particular trend," she writes in the lengthy note to her fans.

The singer then goes into great detail about her studies in the world of pop culture, explaining, "An expertise in the vocabulary of fashion, art and pop culture requires a tremendous amount of studying. My studio apartment on the LES, quite similar to many of my hotel suites now (knock on wood), was covered in inspiration," she says. "Everything from vintage books and magazines I found at the Strand on 12th Street to my dad's old Bowie posters to metal records from my best friend Lady Starlight to Aunt Merle's hand-me-down emerald-green designer pumps were sprawled all over the floor about two feet from my bathroom and four inches from my George Foreman Grill."

The 2011 MTV Movie Awards are less than a month away, on Sunday, June 5, and "Twilight" hunk Robert Pattinson is hoping he and Kristen Stewart can once again take home the prize for Best Kiss.

"It's kind of terrifying if you suddenly stop winning it. You're like, 'Oh God!' " Pattinson told MTV UK about his chances this year after winning at back-to-back shows.

This year, Stewart is not only nominated for kissing Pattinson in "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse," but also onscreen romantic rival Taylor Lautner. "It's almost worse than if you stop winning, like, acting awards or whatever," Pattinson continued, sharing his disappointment at the idea of losing this year. "If you can't kiss anymore, it's like, 'What? I'm still good at kissing!' "

The film is nominated seven other times, including for Best Movie, Best Female Performance, Best Male Performance, Best Breakout Star and Best Fight, so there's a good chance that if Pattinson doesn't take home the Golden Popcorn for Best Kiss, he won't go home empty-handed.

The 2011 MTV Movie Awards will be hosted by actor/comedian Jason Sudeikis and will be broadcast live from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California, on Sunday, June 5, at 9 p.m. ET on MTV.

Lupe Fiasco and Trey Songz are set to perform at the big show. Ryan Reynolds, Nicki Minaj, Selena Gomez, Jason Segel, Aziz Ansari and Steve Carell are presenting at the show, and more appearances will be announced soon.

Exclusive: Watch Swedish House Mafia's 'Save The World' Video Teaser

Posted: 11 May 2011 11:28 PM PDT

Full clip, directed by Jon Watts, premieres May 20.

Keeping with their tradition of sharing just enough to drive fans wild, the holy trinity of house music, Swedish House Mafia, have revealed a tiny glimpse of what dance-music lovers can expect from their upcoming video for "Save the World." Judging from the clip, it appears a certain amount of assault and canines are involved.

Each heavy-hitting dance-music brands in their own right, Sebastian Ingrosso, Steve Angello and Axwell first previewed "Save the World" (with vocals by new artist John Martin) at their Masquerade Motel: One Night Stand in Miami over Miami Music Week back in March. Since then, the song has become easily one of the most anticipated EDM releases of the year. After all, "Save the World" follows DJ set staples "One" (featuring N.E.R.D. frontman Pharrell Williams) and "Miami 2 Ibiza" (their Billboard Dance Music #1 featuring British rapper Tinie Tempah).

The "Save the World" clip is largely comprised of three scenes: a diner attendant on a late shift, a gentleman chilling in his car and two lovely ladies walking the streets (presumably of L.A., where the video was shot). Then, weaving between each of these settings, our subjects are attacked by separate assailants. Two ski-masked goons descend upon the diner attendant, smashing his tip jar with a baseball bat. A masked attacker crowbars the driver's car window. And one of the beautiful lasses walking the streets is pulled away from her friend with a hand over her mouth.

Curiously, the teaser ends with a shot of the derriere of a dog wagging its tail. And why not? It's a teaser, after all. But fret not, SHM fans: The video should have a happy ending. After all, how could an epic sing-along in the feel-good, one-love tradition of the house-music experience end in any other fashion? In a couple of weeks, we'll know for sure.

The video for "Save the World" was directed by Jon Watts, who has also created videos for Sleigh Bells, TV on the Radio and Fatboy Slim. The full video is set to premiere May 20; the single will be available for purchase Tuesday.

Does the teaser have you hyped up for the full video? Let us know in the comments!

Mobb Deep haven't performed together in over three years, but rappers Havoc and Prodigy aren't worried they'll be rusty when they reunite onstage Thursday night (May 12) in New York.

"It's like riding a bike, man: Get up on it, and it's still there," Prodigy told MTV News. "It's just natural for us 'cause we do this for real. We've been doing this for a long time.

"We're real dedicated to our music and dedicated to Mobb Deep and to the supporters — all our fans out there. To be gone for three years and come back, we just hop right back into it like it's nothing. We know what we got to do."

Thursday night, the Queens duo will be headlining the Best Buy Theater in Times Square, sharing the bill with the Wu-Tang Clan's Ghostface Killah and Raekwon and the Roots' Black Thought. The occasion will mark Mobb Deep's first show since Prodigy was released from prison this past March. The rapper served three years on gun charges stemming from a 2006 traffic stop.

While the time apart did affect the group, Havoc insists that everything will run smoothly. "Basically the songs is like part of our DNA; we can't forget it," he said. "It's like three years haven't even passed. As soon as we get up there, it's like we just had a show yesterday."

Prodigy revealed, "Being away from Hav that long, that sh-- hurt me. So, to come back home and just start going again, it just feels great, man. It feels great to just work again."

If anyone could divert attention from the A-listers at the Cannes Film Festival, it's Lady Gaga. On Wednesday night, the pop star touched down at the festival to perform a waterfront concert on the Riviera for the French TV show "Le Grand Journal."

Before the live event, Gaga took to the streets of Cannes wearing a studded leather vest with "Born This Way" emblazoned on the back. She completed the look with a choker, bra and a two-toned hairstyle.

Gaga then took the stage for a live performance of her hit single "Judas." With the Mediterranean as her backdrop, Gaga treated thousands of fans to a memorable, high-energy performance, accompanied by a retinue of male dancers.

Check out photos of Lady Gaga's performance in Cannes.

"It's beautiful; it's very, very busy, but it's really nice to be here." Gaga told the adoring crowd. "It was so lovely performing with the ocean. I would've liked to have jumped in after the performance!"

Wearing a gold-embellished ensemble, a red hood and the same black-and-white hairstyle, Gaga explained the inspiration behind her look to host Michel Denisot.

"I was really obsessed with religious imagery and fashion for the 'Judas' video," Gaga said. "I've been wearing very romantic, very biblical arrangements, and I always throw in some punk rock for good measure."

Gaga, who served as guest mentor on this week's "American Idol," is appearing next on a very different medium: She's giving fans their first listen to tracks from Born This Way on the online game "Farmville" starting next Tuesday, a week before her album drops on May 23.

Angelina Jolie, Jack Black Talk Fashion At Cannes Film Festival

CANNES, France — The Cannes Film Festival brings out the biggest stars, but it has also become one of the most glamorous events of the year, as we witnessed on the first day of the event. So when one has to work the red carpet at the festival, one has to make sure she looks her best, which isn't a problem for "Kung Fu Panda 2" star Angelina Jolie.

Jolie, who is known for her classic, elegant style, is used to turning heads. But when we caught up with the actress, we had to ask if she ever feels she has to top herself at Cannes.

"It's all the same," Jolie said of the pressure of dressing for a red carpet. "When I'm not doing this, I wear the same pants and same shirt every day. I don't change."

Jolie's funnyman costar Jack Black chimed in, asking, "Don't you wash them?"

"On occasion, but I have a few of the same things. It's like a uniform," Jolie replied.

Well, we can't say that Black takes the same laid-back approach to fashion. When planning for Cannes, he decided to bring his style to a whole new level.

"I wore my best shirt, favorite jeans and cream-colored pumas," Black joked. "I'm giving you my A-stuff."

In the "Kung Fu Panda" sequel, Black and Jolie reprise their roles as Dragon Warrior Po and Tigress, respectively. But the audition for the role wasn't easy for Jolie, who had to get past her fear of her own voice.

"I was doing Southern, I was doing British, I was doing any accent I could come up with," Jolie said. "Finally, they had to give me the talking-to that they'd analyzed my voice, they'd hired me and everything was fine."

Stick with MTV News all week for all of the scoop from the 2011 Cannes Film Festival.
