The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive

Drake has been spoiled by the mixtape game. With So Far Gone, he dropped the entire body of work and let the people pick their favorite records (Drake's is " A Night Off" with Lloyd, if you were wondering). His album Thank Me Later is still on tap for a March release and despite what you've heard about songs such as "Fireworks" and "Light Up," the 23-year-old said he has yet to pick a single.

"A single? I haven't really figured it out," he said. "With So Far Gone it was the same thing — 'Best I Ever Had' was the second-to-last song I did. When I did it, I was like, 'Cool, it adds a little bounce to [the mixtape],' but I wasn't crazy about it. And that song went #1. That's the one thing that's weird about working on this project, is that I have to choose a single before you actually hear it. I like when people dictate. But I can't wait until March to put out a single, I have to pick one. But I'll figure it out ... when I have a couple more joints. I know the direction I want it to go. I definitely know I want it to connect with the women again. I think that's always important for me. On the album everybody will get their moment. Whatever you like or love about Drake will be there."

Some of Drizzy's recordings will be produced by Kanye West — they've already made music for the album and have plans to connect for a last time before Thank Me Later closes up shop. All those conspiracy theorists who claimed that Kanye sabotaged Drake when he directed the video for "Best I Ever Had" can close out that argument as well — Drake maintains the video is exactly what he wanted, he just wished he could have shot it with a bigger budget.

"I don't really care about catching flack," Drake said about fans that were less than pleased with the video collaboration. "Everybody is not gonna love everything we do ...

"That'll never stop me and Kanye from working together," he added. "Me and Kanye, when we do come together, it's great. We have great chemistry. That definitely won't halt us from giving people what they deserve. In a couple of weeks I'm going to Hawaii so I can work with him and No ID some more."

When asked about the songs they already have in the can, Drake said they were so dope they didn't need hyping.

"It's not much to say — we got some great songs," he noted. "Kanye just brought extra brushes to the painting session. He just brought some more colors so we can complete this masterpiece. I know he's eager to complete his record too, so he's back in that music mode which is great. He was in clothing mode for a second ... now I think he's back and ready to make this all happen."

Lil Wayne's 'On Fire': A Big, Sexy Rock Video, The Way They Used To Make 'Em

Just-released clip is full of serpents and sparks and sexy-yet-devilish vixens.

Is Lil Wayne's Rebirth really a "rock album"? That's in the ear of the beholder. Sure, it's coated in squealing, multi-tracked guitars and boosted by (mostly) live-sounding drums, but it's also buoyed by big-money beats and propelled by Wayne's syrup-thick, studio-tweaked voice.

The album's "On Fire" is a pretty good litmus test. Guitars? Check. Live drums and bass? Double check. Beat featuring a sample of a song from "Scarface," courtesy the production tandem team of Cool & Dre? You bet.

Here's one thing that's certain: the video for the song — which premiered on MTV.com late Wednesday (January 6) — is most definitely a rock video: A big, expensive-looking one, full of serpents and sparks and sexy-yet-devilish vixens. It's set in a spooky mansion. There's a band in it, made up of very rock-looking dudes. And Wayne clings to the mic stand (and fiddles with his fretboard) with a convincing level of conviction. To him, this is definitely rock music, no question about it.

Directed by Chris Robinson — who's made videos for Alicia Keys, Young Jeezy and basically everyone in between — "On Fire" looks great, the way those old rock epics used to. There's a live-wire energy to it, elements of danger and sweat and sex — you know, the things that arguably have been missing from rock and roll for nearly 30 years now. This is basically a throwback clip, only with a syrup-fueled Southern rapper as its focal point.

And with no official word on just when Rebirth will actually hit stores — and a jail-sentencing looming on the horizon — this might be the only Wayne you get for awhile, unless you find Rebirth online or were one of the lucky 500 to get the actual CD (by mistake). We can spend all day speculating on just what might be going on in Weezy's mind, but the best rock music doesn't necessarily come from the brain ...

The 36th Annual People's Choice Awards kicked off awards season Wednesday (January 6) with a star-studded spectacle hosted by Queen Latifah at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. The biggest celebrities in music, television and film were honored by the fans who support them, with a record 60 million votes cast in deciding the winners.

The top honors for the night went to "Twilight," which led the multi-nomination contenders with four wins across six categories. "New Moon" star Taylor Lautner took home Favorite Breakout Movie Star and shared Favorite On-Screen Team with Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, as "Twilight" took Favorite Movie and "The Twilight Saga" took Favorite Franchise.

Kristen Stewart lost Favorite Movie Actress to Sandra Bullock, who was recently named the top-earning star of last year for the blockbuster performances of her 2009 hits "The Proposal" and "The Blind Side." Similarly, Robert Pattinson lost Favorite Movie Actor to Johnny Depp, who picked up that award enough in the past 10 years to be named Actor of the Decade.

The night also had its share of surprises. Despite having a terrific year, with starring roles in both "Avatar" and "Star Trek," Zoe Saldana lost out in the Favorite Breakout Actress category to Miley Cyrus. "Hannah Montana: The Movie" was a box-office success, no question, but Saldana closed out her year with a role in one of the biggest movie releases of all time.

Taylor Swift, nominated in three categories, picked up her first People's Choice Award. She only took home one of the three, but it was the big one: Favorite Female Artist. Swift walked gracefully onto the stage with an energized crowd cheering her on and delivered an appreciative, gushing acceptance speech directed at her fans.

The viewers' choices for top TV series were "House" and "The Big Bang Theory" — a surprise win over "How I Met Your Mother" — in Favorite TV Drama and Favorite TV Comedy, respectively. "Supernatural" was another surprise win, beating out "Lost" for Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy Show as anticipation runs high for its upcoming sixth and final season. Newcomers "Glee" and "The Vampire Diaries" were also honored, as Favorite New Comedy and Drama Series, respectively.

The night concluded with the presentation of the Favorite Movie Actor award to Johnny Depp, who had been absent from the show coverage up to that point. "Brüno" star Sacha Baron Cohen delivered an extended introduction for Depp, naming him Actor of the Decade for multiple PCA wins over the past 10 years. The "Alice in Wonderland" star then emerged from backstage to deliver a quiet, heartfelt acceptance speech in his typically humble fashion.

It was a star-studded night, the first of many that we'll witness as we rush headlong into the 2010 awards season.

Fantasia Ready To 'Rebuild My Dynasty' With VH1's 'Fantasia For Real'

Season-three 'American Idol' champ denies rumors of losing her house and getting bailed out by Simon Cowell.

Fantasia Barrino has had an interesting career since winning the third season of "American Idol" in 2004. She's released two albums, with plans to release a third this year; made the Lifetime movie "Life Is Not a Fairy Tale," based on events in her real life; and starred in "The Color Purple" on Broadway. Now, Fantasia will finally show the world her true self in her new VH1 show "Fantasia for Real," premiering Monday at 10 p.m. ET.

In the show, the singer wants to clear up all those crazy rumors that have been out there about her, most notably the one about her house being up for foreclosure and "Idol" judge Simon Cowell bailing her out. She said she's still living in the house she was reportedly losing back in 2008.

"The foreclosure thing was false," she told MTV News. "But someone was coming after my house. I own two homes, and they were put up for auction and all this lawsuit stuff was very new to me. Some of the people that I worked with in the beginning, who kind of said they'd take care of everything, well, they didn't quite have my back like they said they did."

She said the rumors were especially hard on her since she was working to support her family. "It was just embarrassing, especially when it's me and all of my family, and I fought so hard," she explained. "And the house that I'm in now is just one of my dream homes, so up until the very last day, we began to pack things up, and I paid out of my pocket. No, Simon Cowell did not help me with anything! And they finally settled and I'm in my house now, which you will get to see me in on the show."

With 2008 behind her, she wants her fans and critics to get the story straight from her instead of from the gossip rags. "I felt like everybody was allowed to sit back and watch that stuff, and I've always been an open book ever since I was on 'Idol,' " she said. "I've always given the real me. But I kind of wanted everyone to hear it from the horse's mouth, how things kind of went down, what the truth is, and kind of watch me as I rebuild my dynasty and kind of grow up from some of the things that were hindering me."

With so many celebs opting for lighter shades on the People's Choice Awards red carpet Wednesday night (January 6), it begs the question: Is the "no white after Labor Day" rule gone for good?

Olivia Wilde went for her typical red-carpet style in a voluminous white dress paired with a black belt. "Gossip Girl" actress Kelly Rutherford looked stunning in her champagne satin gown with '40s-style sequined detailing. "Inglourious Basterds" leading lady Diane Kruger looked hip and fresh in her skintight white bandage dress paired with gladiator heels.

Carrie Underwood went funky chic in a nude mid-length dress with lacy black overlay. Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams embraced her punk-rock sprit in a vintage-inspired black dress covered in little white bows, and red lips to match her fiery hair. Ginnifer Goodwin looked a little like a wacky Carrie Bradshaw in her striped black-and-white minidress with a giant flower on the shoulder.

Although the Taylors didn't walk the carpet, the recently broken-up couple did make the show, as expected. Lautner looked very chic in his shiny gray suit and skinny black tie. Meanwhile, Swift was spotted backstage in a little white jacket and side-swept bun.

Colbie Caillat hit the carpet in an orange Grecian-style dress and nude shoes, a look that was very polished for the typically beachy singer. Also rocking the shade was "Glee" star Lea Michele, who paired her orange sweetheart dress with rainbow-color peep-toes.

"The Blind Side" star Sandra Bullock wore a mustard-color three-quarter-length dress with a swooping neckline. Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger went very Vegas chic in a deep-bronze halter dress, with her hair pulled back and big earrings.

Demi Lovato looked grown-up in a low-cut, very short purple dress with a fringy hemline and a big sparkly choker. Kellan Lutz represented for his "Twilight "crew in a shark-skin blazer paired with gray slacks and bleach-blond locks.

And, finally, the Cobra Starship guys coordinated in grey suits of different shades paired with wine-color ties. As for the group's lone lady, Victoria Asher, she wore a gothy lace-up dress, also wine-color.

Katy Perry Engaged To Russell Brand, Rep Confirms

Singer and comedian reportedly got engaged while on vacation in India.

Katy Perry and Russell Brand are engaged, a rep for Brand confirmed to MTV News on Wednesday (January 6). The couple's romance began heating up in September at the MTV Video Music Awards, where the comedian served as host and the singer performed.

Perry's label rep also confirmed the news, citing Glamour.com. In a separate Glamour article, the singer praised Brand's quick wit and said she's found her match in him. "When I find a partner who is my teammate, I'm not going to play by any rules, I'm just going to go with my heart. Why wait? I just wrote a song [that goes], "They say it's hard to meet your match, gotta find my other half so we can make a perfect shape."

According to an initial report on UsMagazine.com on Tuesday, the pair got engaged five days ago, while on vacation in Jaipur, India. A source told the site that the trip to India "was his Christmas gift. She told him how much she loved Indian culture while they were eating curry in England, so he surprised her." The source noted that Perry has "never connected with anybody like this," adding that Brand "is super into her. She says he makes her laugh like nobody else in the world."

Last week, while in India, Perry posted a photo of her and Brand at the Taj Mahal on Twitter and wrote, "He built this for me. Early Wednesday," she tweeted, "So when do I start walking the streets naked singing that Alanis song?" a reference to the Alanis Morrisette song "Thank U" about the singer's time spent in India.

News of their engagement first began circulating last week after a source told Splash News that Brand was on the hunt for an engagement ring. "Russell is searching for a jewelry designer to make up a ring in time for New Year after the pair discussed what they wanted to have," a source said. "Russell also has the approval of Katy's parents and everyone in the pair's close circle knows about the engagement."

While the world was still wondering if the two had actually gotten engaged, Britain's The Sun reported that Brand had texted those closest to him saying, "It's true. Much love." A source added that Brand said, "Katy's managed to tame me. This is it — I'm completely in love."

Reps for Brand and Perry hadn't responded to MTV News' request for comment at press time.

From #1 hits to a hosting gig on "Saturday Night Live," 2009 was a fairy-tale year for country star Taylor Swift. And it seems the Fearless artist's good fortune has spilled over into 2010, as she nabbed the People's Choice Award for Favorite Female Artist during Wednesday's (January 6) ceremony.

Decked in a strapless white Jenny Packham dress, the 20-year-old beat out Britney Spears, Carrie Underwood, Pink and Beyoncé (sorry, Kanye!) for the statuette.

"Thank you. What a beautiful, beautiful way to start out a new decade," Swift said, accepting her award to a standing ovation in the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. "Thank you so much. I want to thank the fans. You're the ones who choose which songs on the radio you want to turn up and blast from your car speakers. And you're the ones who choose which concerts you want to go see. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for choosing to give me this award. This is my first People's Choice Award. Thank you so much. Thank you."

Swift's ex-boyfriend and "Valentine's Day" co-star Taylor Lautner was among the nominees in attendance at the ceremony. When the "Twilight" star scored the award for Favorite Breakout Actor, Swift and her mother Andrea graciously stood to applaud his win.

Swift was nominated in two other categories: Favorite Country Artist, which went to Carrie Underwood, and Favorite Pop Artist, which went to Lady Gaga.

Kenna, Jessica Biel And Lupe Fiasco Gear Up For Kilimanjaro Climb

The trek, which also includes Emile Hirsch and Santigold, will be chronicled in a 90-minute documentary on MTV.

By this time Thursday, rapper/philanthropist Kenna will be leading a group that includes actors Jessica Biel, Emile Hirsch and Isabel Lucas and musicians Lupe Fiasco and Santigold on the trip of a lifetime to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro. The ascent of the highest peak in Africa is not a casual vacation among bold-named friends, though, but part of an awareness raising trek called the "Summit on the Summit" aimed at shining a light on the global clean-water crisis.

The group will be joined by a panel of eminent scientists and thinkers who've been working on bringing desperately needed clean water to developing nations around the globe, and their climb will be chronicled in a 90-minute documentary slated to air March 14 at 9 p.m. on MTV.

For the next seven days, the participants will slowly make their way along a 50-mile route to the 19,340-foot peak of the mountain, a journey that will be constantly updated on SummitOnTheSummit.com with tweets, photos and video blogs. During the journey, they will be discussing water issues with the experts, tracking their movement with GPS devices and interacting with followers on Twitter, MySpace and Facebook.

The effort will raise funds for the Children's Safe Drinking Water Program, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and Water for People's Playpump Technology. Visitors to the site can get information about clean-water issues and real-time details on the conditions on the mountain while following the action on heart monitors attached to two of the climbers each day.

"When Kenna called me about joining the team for Summit on the Summit, I could hardly contain my excitement — combining an epic adventure with an educational process on the global water crisis, and finding a creative way to engage people towards an important and charitable cause, this climb is something special I couldn't miss," said Hirsch, who began training for the arduous climb three weeks ago by running stairs in California. "I hope we can inspire as many people as possible in doing this, as well as learn more about the water crisis ourselves, and what we can do in our everyday lives. And put this on the books: I'm making it to the top."

The journey to the top is a personal one for Grammy nominee Kenna, whose father saw the dangers of waterborne illness firsthand as a child when his brother died as a result of the illness. Among those joining him on the trek are Alexandra Cousteau, granddaughter of famed explorer/filmmaker Jacques Cousteau; Elizabeth Gore, executive director for global partnerships for the United Nations Foundation; international development and water expert Simon Isaacs; a pair of award-winning photographers; and environmental activist Kick Kennedy.

The trekkers have all been undergoing intense training for their adventure on the highest freestanding mountain in the world. During the climb, temperatures will go from near 90 degrees on the first day to close to 0 degrees on the last day. On Wednesday (January 6), they gathered in the village of Arusha near the base of the mountain to watch a demonstration of the Pur Water filtration system from Dr. Greg Allgood, director of the Children's Safe Drinking Water Program.

After scooping up some of the dirtiest water in the village and filtering it through the Pur system, the group was sharing clean, drinkable water with the villagers shortly thereafter. It was the first powerful moment on a trip that is sure to be full of drama and discovery for the trekkers, including intense speculation about which, or how many, of them will make it all the way to the top.

We'll be following their progress all week, so keep coming back for updates and interviews with the participants.

Paramore's Hayley Williams, Colbie Caillat, More Walk People's Choice Awards Red Carpet

LOS ANGELES — The People's Choice Awards took over downtown Los Angeles on Wednesday night, and the red carpet was packed with such wide-ranging stars as Sandra Bullock, Mary J. Blige and Jackie Chan. Before the festivities kicked off inside, the big names from the last 12 months looked forward to kicking off the 2010 entertainment year in style.

"It's amazing, and it's People's Choice, so it's good to know that the fans voted for you," gushed singer/songwriter Colbie Caillat, nominated for Favorite Music Collaboration for her duet with Jason Mraz, "Lucky." "Jason and I, we have the same style of music, so I think [our fanbases] were combined already. But getting the chance to work with him, travel around the world and perform all over and seeing people's reactions to it, hearing that it's everyone's wedding song? That's very exciting, and kind of surreal."

"In 2010, I really hope the whole world [finds] peace," a noticeably moved Jackie Chan told us when asked about his expectations for the new year. "No more war, no more natural disasters — I hope everything is fine. There are so many things going on, so many people who've been killed by natural disasters — I hope everything will be fine. No more war."

In times of trouble, however, people often look to entertainment for escape. And during a tumultuous 2009, such desires made overnight sensations of folks like "Paranormal Activity" stars Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat.

"A year ago, I think I was watching the People's Choice Awards [on TV] in my living room," laughed Featherston, marveling over the wild ride of the past few months. Discussing the film, which was shot for a mere $15,000 and earned $107 million, Sloat said he was still amazed by such glitzy awards shows and that with the catering budget alone, "We could make several movies!"

A bit more experienced in the ways of Hollywood is veteran actress Diane Kruger, who alongside Eli Roth walked down the red carpet and will spend the next few months strolling down many more thanks to "Inglourious Basterds" building awards-season supremacy. "This is my first time [at the People's Choice Awards]; there are a lot of people, it's very loud."

And of course, after every great awards show is a great afterparty, and with notorious "Basterds" like Roth and Quentin Tarantino alongside her every night, Kruger said all she can do is hope to keep up. "Every once in a while [I'll party with them]," she said. "The thing is, when you go out one night, that puts you down for a month; you have to recover. But they can go every night."

"It feels amazing to be here," Paramore's Hayley Williams told us, looking up and down the carpet moments before going inside to vie for a Favorite Rock Band award. "I love this awards show, and I feel really honored to be here.

"I'm not getting nervous as much," the 21-year-old beauty said of her awards-show composure as she heads into her sixth year with the band. "I get anxious, because I'm definitely not used to [getting nominated for things]. And I don't think I ever want to get used to it."

Taylor Swift, Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga Top SoundScan's Year-End Charts

Well, the final numbers have been crunched and the end result is something we pretty much suspected all along: 2009 was a very big year for Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga and the late, great King of Pop, Michael Jackson.

On Wednesday (January 6), Nielsen SoundScan released their sales figures for 2009, and while some of the data is downright depressing — total album sales (including digital) dropped more than 12 percent — we prefer to focus on the positive: Swift, Gaga and Jackson (not to mention Susan Boyle, the Black Eyed Peas and the Kings of Leon) moved a whole lot of units over the past 12 months.

Swift's Fearless was the year's top-selling album, moving more than 3.2 million copies, holding off a late-year charge from Boyle, whose I Dreamed a Dream sold some 3.1 million copies to land at #2 (though Boyle had the best-selling album released in 2009, since Fearless actually came out in November 2008). Michael Jackson's Number Ones was #3, selling more than 2.3 million copies, and Lady Gaga's The Fame (2.23 million) and Andrea Bocelli's My Christmas (2.2 million) round out the top five.

Jackson was 2009's top-selling artist by a mile. He sold more than 8.2 million albums, doubling his nearest competitor, Swift, who sold 4.6 million. Some group called the Beatles landed at #3, selling more than 3.2 million albums, followed by Boyle (3.1 million) and Gaga (2.8 million).

Gaga was named the top-selling digital artist of the year — a category based on total digital track sales — as fans downloaded more than 15 million of her songs. The Black Eyed Peas were next, selling nearly 13 million digital tracks. Jackson stood at #3 (12.35 million), Swift came in at #4 (12.3 million) with Beyoncé at #5.

The Peas held the top two spots on the top-selling digital songs list with "Boom Boom Pow" (4.7 million downloads) and "I Gotta Feeling" (4.4 million), followed by Lady Gaga's "Poker Face" (4.3 million), Flo Rida's "Right Round" (4.1 million) and Gaga's "Just Dance" (3.2 million).

The Nielsen SoundScan numbers were based on the 52-week period of January 5, 2009 -- January 3, 2010.
