Taylor Swift And Taylor Lautner And More Of Our Favorite Couples Of 2009

Here are a few of the pairings (and rumored romances) that made us swoon this year.

Our favorite couples in 2009 met while working on set or working the red carpet. Some flaunted their love and devotion, and some tried to keep it under wraps. But at the end of the day, they made a case for the existence of true love and gave hope to all of us.

Emily Blunt and John Krasinski
After they began dating in November 2008, "The Office" star and his "Devil Wears Prada" girlfriend announced their engagement this past August. Although Jim — uh, we mean John — is married to Pam on television, in real life his heart belongs only to Emily. Plus, John has a great sense of humor about being the "sexiest groom alive." He recently joked that his TV wedding helped prepare him for married life. Aww, how cute!

Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt
In 2008, they only had a sort-of wedding. But they took Tom Cruise's advice and finally had the wedding of Heidi's dreams when they married in April, with the "Hills" cast in attendance. Although they stirred up some trouble on "I'm a Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here!," it was their feud with Al Roker that got them a slew of headlines. However, the real question is whether or not these two can agree about the about the future of their family. We'll keep you posted.

Katy Perry and Russell Brand
Sometimes at the Video Music Awards, you win more than a Moonman. After hanging at the 2008 VMAs, Katy and Russell went public at the 2009 show in NYC. Soon after, he was talking about embracing monogamy and the two were seen partying all over the world together. Since they both seem to enjoy kissing girls, it's a match made in heaven.

Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner
They play a couple in the upcoming rom-com "Valentine's Day," but rumor has it the two were method acting. After filming scenes for the flick over the summer, the pair started hanging out. Neither has confirmed the romance, but they've always spoken highly of one another while dancing around questions about their relationship. And we did see that suggestive wink girl Taylor gave boy Taylor on "Saturday Night Live."

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart
This alleged couple really had everyone talking this year. They were seen canoodling several times (at a Kings of Leon concert and in Paris) and when asked about it, always played the "just good friends" card. (Or got angry everyone was still asking about the alleged relationship.) So who knows what's really going on? Here's hoping that we find out in 2010.

Lady Gaga Wants 'New Sonic Energy And Lyrical Style' On Next Album

'I've evolved, but artists should evolve,' she offers.

The Lady Gaga of today isn't the same Lady Gaga who released "Just Dance" off her album The Fame in 2008. This Lady Gaga promises that when she releases her next LP, the follow-up to her recent release The Fame Monster, it will be completely different than what her fans are used to.

"Well, I'm going to write new music ... that's the beauty of writing your own music — you don't have to rely on songwriters and producers to write hit songs for you," she told MTV News. "So I'm going to write a new album and I'm going to have new ideas."

Gaga, who is currently on her Monster Ball Tour, thinks the trek could inspire her new album just like the last one did. "Most certainly I have no f---ing clue what they're going to be yet, because I'm just starting this tour, and I wrote The Fame Monster during the last tour, so ... I assume that it will inspire some kind of new sonic energy and lyrical style," she explained.

"I find The Fame Monster to be completely different than The Fame," she added. "I've evolved, but artists should evolve. In the '70s and the '60s, artists evolved all the time — from album to album the music was changing, the feeling was changing, the artists seemed almost entirely different than who they were five or six years before."

Gaga's producer RedOne recently spoke to MTV News, teasing about what the duo have in store for the next album. "I don't want to say, because you always want to shock people," he said. "And you don't want to let people know, so that when they hear it, [they go], 'Oh my God.' "

If you're still unsure of where you want to start your countdown, MTV News has put together a list of the hottest spots with the hottest stars.

In Los Angeles, Adam Lambert is the headlining act at the Gridlock New Year's Eve concert. Basketball star Allen Iverson has hooked up with Claudia Jordan and Mekhi Phifer for a Harlem Nights party at Siren Studios. And if you're looking for a little old-school hip-hop, Grandmaster Flash will be the man at the Roosevelt Hotel come New Year's Eve.

Christina Aguilera will be hosting a party at Las Vegas hot spot Tao, but a slew of other celebrities are scheduled to host parties up and down the Vegas strip. Nicole Richie and hubby Joel Madden will be at Lavo. And in addition to performing on Dick Clark's "New Year's Rockin' Eve," the Black Eyed Peas will appear at LAX Nightclub at the Luxor hotel. Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz will join DJ Skeet Skeet at Jet nightclub.

Las Vegas will also be home to parties featuring Robin Thicke, who will perform at the Bank; and 50 Cent, performing at Pure nightclub. Former "Girl Next Door" Holly Madison will be joined by Jermaine Dupri for a bash at Privé.

The parties will be just as hot on the East Coast, with Cobra Starship's Alex Suarez and Ryland Blackinton and celebrity DJ Josh Madden rocking the night away at the Hotel on Rivington and then late night at the Eldridge, both in New York City. Meanwhile, after she plays Madison Square Garden, Mariah Carey will meet up with hubby Nick Cannon to host JoonBug.com's M2 Ultra Lounge New Year's Eve 2010.

There was no shortage of musical moments in 2009 — and not all of them revolved around Lady Gaga, either. Artists bubbled beneath the surface, broke through to the mainstream and established themselves as unlikely forces to be reckoned with. Say what you will about the past 12 months, but you can't deny that they were interesting.

There was Blink-182's big-time reunion tour, Cobra Starship's party-hearty anthems and the sleeper success of Owl City, to name just a few. Kris Allen's underdog win on "American Idol." Ke$ha's out-of-nowhere ascent to the upper reaches of the Billboard Hot 100. Jay Sean extending the reach of Cash Money's musical empire. Everywhere you looked, things were happening.

So as the year draws to a close, we decided to ask some of your favorite artists to name their favorites: songs, albums and fellow acts that they admired in 2009.

Mark Hoppus, Blink-182

Song of the Year: " 'Help, I'm Alive,' by Metric. My favorite song of the year, because the lyrics are amazing. Metric are one of my favorite bands."

Album of the Year: "Silversun Pickups, Swoon. I still cannot stop listening to this album. It's '90s alt-rock done in a modern style. Catchy, dynamic."

Jay Sean

Artists of the Year: "I'd have to say Jay-Z or Lil Wayne. Both of them are huge, huge artists. Lady Gaga is probably the woman of the year. It's really been her year. ... She's incredible. She wasn't here a year ago — she went from being a new artist to being the biggest pop star in the world."

Kris Allen

Artists of the Year: "He's not really an artist, but I'm gonna say Tiger Woods. Or Seacrest. As for the ladies, it's gotta be Taylor Swift. If it wasn't her, I don't think anyone else is close."

Gabe Saporta, Cobra Starship

Song of the Year: "My favorite song of 2009 was 'Tik Tok' by Ke$ha. Especially the opening line, when she says she wakes up in the morning feeling like P. Diddy. I really connected to that sentiment because similarly, I wake up most mornings feeling like Gabe Saporta. And them I'm like, 'Oh, f--- yeah! I am Gabe Saporta.' "

Alex Suarez, Cobra Starship

Songs of the Year: La Roux, "Bulletproof," Chromeo's remix of Vampire Weekend's "The Kids Don't Stand a Chance"

Albums of the Year: Muse, The Resistance, Jay-Z, The Blueprint 3

"It's unfortunate for me that I spent so much time working on music this year that I didn't get a lot of opportunity to keep up with new music in '09. Fortunately for me, I love making music and I'm glad I get to spend so much time making it."

Ke$ha

Song of the Year: " 'Single Ladies,' by Beyoncé. I'm feeling that so hard. Gaga had a pretty epic year, but Beyoncé's my secret crush. She's amazing."

Album of the Year: "The Miike Snow record. It's my favorite. If you haven't heard it, you should. It's amazing."

Owl City

Song of the Year: "Forever and Always," by Taylor Swift

Album of the Year: Fearless, by Taylor Swift

Pete Wentz, Fall Out Boy

Song of the Year: "My favorite song of the year would probably have to be Jay-Z's 'Run This Town.' I think he came out and said and did everything, and he works harder than [anyone]. That record, he's the most angry he's been in a long time."

Albums of the Year: "I like the Dead Weather's [Horehound], Them Crooked Vultures' [self-titled debut], and I like the new Green Day record [21st Century Breakdown] a lot; that's a band that's influenced me a lot."

Artists of the Year: "He's not really an artist, but I would have to say Obama, and there are many reasons for that. Leader of the free world. I think he's going to get a lot of the things done that he has promised. And my pick for woman of the year would have to be my wife, otherwise she'd murder me."

Kanye West Vs. Taylor Swift And More Great Feuds Of 2009

Adam Lambert vs. ABC, Eminem vs. Mariah Carey and more showdowns made for a combative year.
By Jocelyn Vena

Long before Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift at the VMAs, celebrities were getting on one another's cases in 2009. Whether it was Speidi vs. Al Roker or huge stars writing songs about one another, this was the year when people weren't scared to battle it out.

Taylor Swift vs. Kanye West
Joe Jonas might have finally gotten back at Taylor for writing that song about him (then she got back at him again!), but the VMAs came along and blew that feud out of the water. West bum-rushed the stage during Swift's acceptance speech, and the resulting backlash led Kanye to cancel his tour with Lady Gaga and basically go into hiding. Swift did accept West's apology, but not before everyone from the president to Jay-Z weighed in on the matter.

Eminem vs. Mariah Carey
Eminem and Brüno got into quite a little scuffle at the MTV Movie Awards, but it was his song battle with Mariah Carey that had everyone talking. Em released "Bagpipes From Baghdad," which was about Mariah, then Mariah released her ode to Eminem, "Obsessed." Appearing in the video as an Eminem look-alike, the singer sparked rumors that she was singing about their alleged fling many moons ago. And Em didn't leave well enough alone. Although she denied the song was about him, he released a biting response song about the pop star, "The Warning." To this day, no one really knows what really went down between the pair, but we know it was juicy. Plus, Nick Cannon was none too pleased.

Miley Cyrus vs. Twitter
Miley might have found herself embroiled in a battle with Radiohead and Jamie Foxx, but her real enemy this year was Twitter. When the singer canceled her account in the fall, the site went crazy and fans didn't know how they were going to get their hourly Miley fixes. She said that rumored beau Liam Hemsworth had nothing to do with her decision to leave and that her life is so much better without Twitter.

Adam Lambert vs. ABC
After Adam Lambert hit the American Music Awards stage for an over-the-top performance of "For Your Entertainment," ABC was anything but entertained. The "American Idol" runner-up didn't feel the need to apologize for his risqué performance, and ABC canceled several of his planned appearances on the channel. When he did eventually make it back on the network, he wasn't allowed to go live: His "View" appearance was pre-taped.

Speidi vs. Al Roker
With Lauren Conrad no longer on their radar, Speidi found a new person to terrorize. They sat down with Al Roker on "Today," where they were initially set to chat about their time spent on "I'm a Celebrity ... Get Me Out of Here!" The interview quickly and surprisingly turned antagonistic, escalating into a battle of words between Roker and Speidi. The three then slung words at one another on various talk shows and Twitter. Spencer even gave Al a little nickname: The Weatherman. Have they buried the hatchet? Well, Spencer and Heidi were supposed to appear on "Today" in the fall, but that mysteriously never happened.

Lady Gaga Wants Fans To 'Feel Alive' During Monster Ball Show

Posted: 28 Dec 2009 04:12 AM PST

Singer says fans 'don't leave loving me, they leave loving themselves.'
By James Dinh

With her far-out costumes and jaw-dropping performances, Lady Gaga probably strikes many people as nothing more than a character. But the singer, currently out on her Monster Ball Tour, tells MTV News that her vision for the tour goes far beyond being eye candy and revolves entirely around her fans. She says she ultimately wants nothing less than to change the lives of her audience.

"No, it's not a character, but what it is ... it's a devotion and a loyalty to the music, and preparing myself for the moment so that I may fully be free and fully give myself to the audience," Gaga told MTV News.

"There's so many things that we have to do," she continued, explaining her pre-show mindset. "We have to free our insecurities so that we can be strong and powerful; we have to be centered. Our throats have to be cleared so we can speak eloquently. My voice must be warmed up; my mind has to be rested and focused so that I don't fall off the stage, or I don't lean the wrong way."

Whether onstage or off, the singer hopes to continue to create a connection that'll make fans "feel alive." "What I do is, in essence, create an atmosphere for my fans where they don't leave loving me, they leave loving themselves," the singer explained.

The theme of Gaga's Fame Monster is a big part of helping her create that performer/ audience relationship. "When I say things like, 'Do you love me? Do you want to f--- me? Come on, Hollywood, take my picture,' it's the ultimate epitome of what that fame monster is," she said. "And somehow, if you make fun of it or you make it a bit more tangible, fame is something that my fans can have for themselves. It's not quite so poisonous."

Gaga noted that her onstage progression provides the narrative to the tour, which hit San Diego earlier this week.

"I'm evolving through time. As a fashion story, the clothing begins in the sort of warbly, blue amoebic state, with lots of light, and it's kind of spacey, and then I grow bones, and then I grow hair, and then I grow horns, and then I become a sexy, full-bodied woman in a world full of war and military," she described. "And then I become myself, by the end of the show, and it's this sort of apocalyptic rebirth when I appear in the orbit and I've done it again."

The Monster Ball Tour is currently being revamped, and the new show will hit the U.K. in February.

Consider it a late Christmas present from Hova Claus. Jay-Z announced Monday (December 28) that the next video from The Blueprint 3 will premiere during "NBC's New Year's Eve With Carson Daly."

The Brooklyn MC is set to debut a clip for "On to the Next One," a futuristic number produced by Swizz Beatz. The video arrives on the heels of the Anthony Mandler-directed "Young Forever," which hit the Internet last week. That video was serviced for overseas use only, according to a representative for Atlantic Records, which distributed the Roc Nation project.

The clip for "On to the Next One" will be the fifth from The Blueprint 3, following "D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)," "Run This Town," "Empire State of Mind" and the aforementioned "Young Forever."

Jay-Z will also appear on NBC's New Year's Eve special, alongside Rihanna. The two pre-taped performances of "Umbrella" and "Run This Town" a week ago in New York at Rockefeller Plaza during a snowstorm. In addition to Jay-Z and Rihanna, Green Day are also scheduled to appear on the Carson Daly-hosted celebration.

"The real star of any New Year's Eve show is New York City, and Jay-Z is New York," Daly said in a statement. "Green Day and Rihanna were already an impressive lineup, and now, with the addition of Jay-Z, it's our most exciting lineup yet."

While fans wait to see Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner fall in love on the big screen in "Valentine's Day" when it opens February 12, they can hear a bit of Swift's new song, "Today Was a Fairytale," in a leaked featurette for the film.

In the new song for the soundtrack, which will be released just days before the film on February 9, Swift sings about a magical day. Her song "Jump Then Fall" will also be on the soundtrack, according to celebrity-mania.com. The featurette also includes a brief scene of Swift swinging her hair while a TV crew stands around watching her.

The Web site posted a full track list for the soundtrack. Leighton Meester's duet with Robin Thicke, "Somebody to Love," made the cut, as well as "Cupid" by Amy Winehouse, Maroon 5's "The Way You Look Tonight" and "4 and 20" by Joss Stone.

In the featurette, members of the ensemble cast — including Julia Roberts, Ashton Kutcher, Jessica Alba, Anne Hathaway and Jennifer Garner — discuss the film and the ups and downs of Valentine's Day. "Valentine's Day ... it's like birthdays. People either love them and love to celebrate and get caught up in it or you just hate it," Roberts says. "Valentine's Day is tricky."

Jessica Biel also discusses the day of love in the clip, saying, "Valentine's Day makes people crazy." In the film, Biel plays Kara, who doesn't want anything to do with hearts or love or Cupid. Biel added, "It makes you feel like you should have someone."

Is it a warning shot? 50 Cent announced in an overseas interview Monday (December 28) that there will soon be "a visual" for his track "So Disrespectful."

The track, produced by Tha Bizness, is from the rapper's Before I Self-Destruct album and features some choice lines directed at friends-turned-foes, including the mother of his son and former G-Unit cohorts the Game and Young Buck.

"Come on, Game, you'll never be my equal/ Your homies shoot dogs, my homies shoot people," 50 raps on the song. "See, me, I'm what you never gonna be/ I'm in that tax bracket you're never gonna see."

"There will be a visual for it," 50 told Dutch outlet Big FM. "The record is working by itself, that one. It just plays with no assistance from the record company, because people like it and personally enjoy it. I wrote that record about people I had issues with that were pretty cool, but at some point, I felt like they crossed me. So I wrote those different things, and it came out good. People enjoy it."

In an interview with MTV News earlier this year, Game appeared open to reconciling, even going as far as to publicly apologize to 50. But the G-Unit boss didn't seem to accept Game's pleas, despite Dr. Dre having patched things up with his Compton protégé.

"You shouldn't really hold your breath," 50 said about collaborating with Game again. "If Dre decides to work with him, that's Dre's prerogative — his album, he can do what he wants. He's Dre."

Michael Jackson's 'This Is It' Video, Directed By Spike Lee, Premieres

Clip features images of Jackson's Indiana hometown.

In a clip released over the Christmas holiday, director Spike Lee paid tribute to Michael Jackson's legendary career in the official video for the King of Pop's posthumous single, "This Is It."

The emotional video intersperses iconic images of the late pop singer with footage shot in Jackson's hometown of Gary, Indiana, and fan tributes following his death June 25.

It opens with a tight shot of a poster in Gary pointing fans toward Jackson's childhood home, at the corner of 2300 Jackson Street and Jackson Family Boulevard, under the sound of vintage recordings of the Jackson siblings calling for Michael. In an image he returns to several times in the nearly five-minute clip, Lee pans across a one-way traffic sign near the legendary Jackson bungalow that is covered in graffiti honoring the late pop icon, including "we luv yuh Michael," written in a childlike scrawl.

Images of Jackson performing as a child are mixed in with soft-focus shots of play sets, baseball bats and Gary's gritty industrial skyline. Lee — who threw a Brooklyn street party in Jackson's honor in August — focuses in on the singer's iconic hands a short while into the montage, outstretched alternately in his signature sequined glove and with his fingertips wrapped in white tape.

A central image captured by the "Do the Right Thing" director is a plea for tolerance etched onto a stop sign in Gary. Someone wrote the message "This Is It" above the word "stop," under which they've added "hatin'." Interspersed with archival footage of Jackson in his prime greeting his global fans are touching shots of contemporary followers paying homage to the singer following his death by wearing their own silver gloves and MJ memorabilia.

At one point, one of the lyrics from the song, "I never heard a single word about you," floats up out of the concrete, fading to more shots of fan tributes from around the world and the heaps of flowers and messages laid at the gates of the singer's Neverland Ranch. Lee returns several times to moving images of a single red balloon floating in the air and empty swings swaying in the breeze.

Fittingly, the video ends with classic footage of Jackson doing the moonwalk and a dramatic pan to a black stool with Jackson's trademark black fedora and silver glove under a spotlight in front of the Gary residence.

Michael Jackson's shocking death and his continued influence on music and culture made MTV News name the King of Pop our 2009 Man of the Year.
