Paula Abdul might get her second chance yet. Just two days after "American Idol" judge Simon Cowell's brother Tony announced that the notoriously prickly British judge will leave the talent show at the end of his contract in 2010, The Hollywood Reporter reported that the Fox network is close to a deal that would keep the #1 show on American television on the air for at least three more seasons, whether Cowell is onboard or not.

Fox's current deal with the producers of "Idol" runs through the end of 2011, but the network is reportedly hashing out a new arrangement that could include three more seasons of the star-making program. Neither "Idol" producers nor Cowell have officially commented on the rumors of the judge's plans to leave the show.

Cowell, who makes $35 million a year to judge "Idol," is reportedly keen to bring his U.K. hit music competition "The X Factor" to the U.S. The show, a huge hit in England, is similar to "Idol," with the added twist of celebrity mentors who coach their protégés. Should Cowell defect, "Idol" would be left with only one of its original three judges, musician/producer Randy Jackson, following the surprise departure of Paula Abdul at the end of the most recent season. Abdul will be replaced by talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres this season, who will sit alongside returning second-year judge, songwriter Kara DioGuardi.

Though often booed and taunted by the crowd, Cowell is the show's most trusted voice when it comes to giving unvarnished advice and criticism to the contestants. According to the Reporter, Fox was originally planning to bring "Factor" for the fall of 2010, but delays have pushed it back to a likely 2011 debut. Cowell quitting "Idol" at the end of the upcoming season could give the "Factor" debut added attention, which is why Fox is considering having him take a smaller role on "Idol" in 2011, such as judging the Hollywood rounds but not auditions, in order to keep the franchise strong.

A private memorial service and funeral for actress Brittany Murphy is slated to take place Christmas Eve (December 24) in Los Angeles.

According to TMZ, Murphy's body was transferred to Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Hollywood Hills on Wednesday, four days after the 32-year-old actress died at her Hollywood home of what the coroner's office has deemed natural causes. An autopsy was performed Monday, but the determination of a cause of death has been deferred, pending toxicology tests.

With no public memorial announced, the private funeral appears to be the only chance friends and family will have to pay their final respects to the "8 Mile" co-star.

According to a report written by a Los Angeles County Coroner's office investigator, Murphy's mother and husband frantically tried to save the actress before she died. In notes reportedly obtained by TMZ, an investigator who attended to Murphy noted that she "had been complaining of shortness of breath and severe abdominal pain" in the seven to 10 days leading up to her death. Other reports had said she'd been experiencing flu-like symptoms in the days before her death.

The notes go on to say that Murphy went into the bathroom at around 7:30 a.m. Sunday. Her mother, Sharon Murphy, went to check on her about half an hour later and discovered Murphy "lying on the floor unresponsive." The investigator also wrote that she called for help, prompting Murphy's husband, Simon Monjack, to come see what the problem was.

By the time the paramedics arrived, she was "without signs of life." She was then moved to the master bedroom where several prescription drugs were found, some prescribed to Murphy, others prescribed to her husband or mother. TMZ reports that antidepressants, anti-anxiety medication, painkillers, an anti-inflammatory, an antibiotic, hypertension medication, a drug to treat diabetes and one to prevent seizures or migraines are listed in the notes.

"No alcohol containers, paraphernalia or illegal drugs were discovered," the notes reportedly say. "The night prior to her death, the decedent had consumed some noodles, leftover Thai food, Gatorade, water and tea with lemon."

The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office released a statement Tuesday night decrying the leaking of the investigative documents, the latest embarrassing leak to hit the office in the wake of similar documents tied to the Michael Jackson investigation. "The inquiry into the death is ongoing, and it is the policy and practice of the Department of Coroner to only release detailed information in cases where the final cause of death has been determined and the case investigation has been completed and closed by the deputy medical examiner."
