Chris Brown Explains Story Behind 'Famous Girl' ... Sort Of

Singer is evasive: Song explains 'how I felt and how I feel about certain situations.'

While Chris Brown has been reluctant to talk in detail about what triggered his assault against Rihanna, a song from his recently released Graffiti album called "Famous Girl," has many wondering if he's saying more about their relationship and its problems in the song than he's said in recent interviews.

"Since I thought I found my woman/ There were other guys who thought the same thing about it/ Like damn, you let me down, down, down/ 'Cause you're famous, girl, for breaking hearts," he sings on the track.

So who, exactly, is this famous girl Brown is referring to? Is it Rihanna? Brown declined to specify.

" 'Famous Girl' is what it is," he told MTV News on Tuesday. "I mean, it really doesn't need any explanation. I think what 'Famous Girl' does is just explain how I felt and how I feel about certain situations. So if you want to know what it is, listen to it."

In the Ryan Leslie-produced song, Brown refers to Rihanna's rumored romance with Drake ("While we're on Drake/ Say that you're the best he's ever had"), a romance Drake was quick to deny after rumors swirled last spring. He also seems to verify a report that he broke a car window during an argument with Rihanna (referencing Jazmine Sullivan's "Bust Your Windows"), and also references Keri Hilson's "Knock You Down" ("Keri would've said my love knocks her down") among other songs mentioned in the lyrics.

Brown, for his part, may be enjoying the confusion over "Famous Girl."

"Watch the blogs talk about this one," he ad-libs during the song.

Adam Lambert On Eminem's 'Elevator' Dis: 'I'm Not Going To Take It Personally'

'I'm sure he was planning on creating some controversy, because he's a smart guy,' 'American Idol' star says.

Last week, a new Eminem song called "Elevator" hit the Internet, on which the rapper may or may not have used an anti-gay slur in a lyric about Adam Lambert (and Clay Aiken and Lance Bass).

"Sorry, Lance, Mr. Lambert and Aiken ain't gonna make it/ They get so mad, when I call them both fake/ It's all these f---ing voices in my head, I can't take it/ Someone shut that f---ing baby up, before I shake it," he apparently raps on the tune — with the "Fake/ It's" combination sounding a lot like a common anti-gay slur.

In the time since, fans of both artists have weighed in on the lyric in question, Em's label has declined to comment on it (or confirm what he was actually saying) and gay-news sites like Towleroad.com have decried it as "boorish" and "homophobic." But, aside from a pair of Tweets, we hadn't heard much on the matter from Lambert himself.

But Tuesday night, on the red carpet for the launch of online music service Vevo, MTV News had a chance to ask Lambert about "Elevator," the lyric in question, and whether or not he felt Eminem crossed a line with either. Turns out, he's not taking any of it personally. In fact, he said the whole thing was a pretty smart business decision by Mr. Mathers.

"Well, you know, he used a word that's not necessarily very nice, but I'm sure he's got some sort of justification for it. And I'm not going to take it personally. It's cool, Eminem!," Lambert said, giving a sarcastic thumbs up. "If you get mentioned in an Eminem song, you're doing something right. And I'm sure he was planning on creating some controversy, because he's a smart guy."

"Elevator" is one of several new songs from Em's upcoming Relapse: Refill album, which hits stores on December 21.

Oh, it ain't over yet. Recent Grammy nominee Fabolous confirmed to us that his next LP will be a sequel to Loso's Way.

"I'm looking to come next summer," Fab said of the album's release date. "I like summer releases. It's good timing. People are out, a lot of people need good music to ride to. I'm looking towards June or July again and come with Loso's Way 2."

As of now, the roll-out for the original Loso's Way is still underway. Fab wants to release viral visuals for "Lullaby," "Last Time" and "Makin' Love," while a clip "I'mma Do It" hit the 'net a few weeks ago. Look for Fab to keep heating up cyberspace with a new mixtape on December 25, hosted by DJ Drama.

"The first mixtape with Dram was There Is No Competition," he explained. "I'm working on part two — it's called There Is No Competition Part 2: The Funeral Service. We gonna make it available for download on Christmas Day — kinda like a gift to the fans, for free, to kinda go out and get the music. It will also be available on hard disc. Most people are home at Christmas, they get computer access — so you can download it or have it on your computer. Get a new [computer for Christmas], the first thing you gonna wanna do is download the There Is No Competition Part 2: The Funeral Service.

"Everything on there — it's what I've been working on since the album. Even though [my album] came out in July, I probably finished it in maybe April or May. Everything has been building up musically since then. Sometime I get it out on R&B features or just other little stuff that you put out. I hadn't put a mixtape out in while, so I had that backed up in me. I got a chance to release. I think people are gonna love it. There Is No Competition is me saying, 'There is nobody that can compete with me. Death to the competition.' That's why it's called The Funeral Service. Everything is themed around that. That's why it's kinda dark. Each song plays into that."

Nick Jonas Inspired By Prince, John Mayer On Solo LP

'Prince played a big role, obviously, with the band being the New Power Generation,' Jonas says of his sound and his backing band.

Nick Jonas knows how to pick talent. For his solo side project, Nick Jonas and the Administration, he hooked up with members of Prince's New Power Generation, and said that Prince's signature sound has helped shape several of the songs on the February release, Who I Am. But he admits he's still not sure if the superstar has heard the music.

"I don't know," he told MTV News, noting the track "Conspiracy Theory" has heavy Prince influences. "I've heard one or two stories about how the guys in the band were asked by Prince to come and do some things with him, but they had to decline."

He added that he might get the chance to hear from the man himself when the band makes a tour stop in his hometown of Minneapolis in January. "I think it's going to be really funny when he sees them up on the stage," Jonas added. "We're playing a show in Minneapolis and it will be the homecoming for all the guys in the band. And [I'm] just waiting to see if Prince is gonna show up and be sitting there, like, with a blank face on. Hopefully he likes it."

While most of the tracks are Prince-inspired, one in particular, "Olive and Arrow," has the same vibe John Mayer had on his early albums. "[I] admire his work and I think that using some of his songs as inspiration for this was a big thing," Jonas explained.

Other than Prince and Mayer, there were several other iconic musicians Jonas looked to for creative inspiration. "The artists that I was kind of going for was people like Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers and, as far as lyrics, Elvis Costello, Johnny Cash. ... [I] really try to pour some heart and soul through these songs," he said. "And Prince played a big role, obviously, with the band being the New Power Generation. So it was fun."

Travis McCoy Says Gym Class Heroes Are Getting Back To Basics

'We've already started demo-ing for the new Gym Class record, PCC II,' frontman tells MTV News.

In the grand scheme of things, one year isn't all that long, but in industry terms, it's an eternity. That's how long it's been since Gym Class Heroes released The Quilt (actually, it's been like 15 months, but, hey, who's counting?), an album that was supposed to carry them to the next level but, thanks to an increased focus on hip-hop, confounded most GCH fans, and quickly disappeared from the charts.

And when that disappointment was coupled with frontman Travis McCoy's talk of a solo album, well, those 15 months started to seem a bit longer — and the wait began to make many Gym Class fans worry about the fate of their beloved band.

But according to McCoy, there's nothing to fear. Because while, yes, he's currently working on his solo debut — an album called The Lazarus Project — he's not slacking on his Gym Class duties either. Far from it, in fact.

"Man, It hasn't really been that long since The Quilt," he laughed. "But, for real, I'm actually wrapping up my solo record, which is called The Lazarus Project, which will hopefully be out this spring, [and] we've already started demo-ing for the new Gym Class record, PCC II. I won't get into what that acronym stands for, but anybody that's followed GCH for a while knows what I'm talking about.

"We're about 12 demos deep," he continued. "All I got to say is it's definitely going back to the essence of Gym Class Heroes, which is four dudes sitting in a room, vibing off each other and making organic, dark metal."

Cool, like those dudes from Norway? Longtime Gym Class Heroes fans will, of course, recognize PCC II as a reference to the band's breakout 2005 album, The Papercut Chronicles, which makes it sound very much like GCH is returning to their roots. But things are going to be a little different this time around. For starters, McCoy has grown up, and, as an ambassador for MTV's Staying Alive Campaign — which supports young people working to prevent the spread of HIV and AIDS — he traveled to South Africa, India and the Philippines.

So things are gonna get a lot worldlier the next time out. Sort of.

"If you go back and listen to earlier on in the Gym Class catalog, we definitely tackled social issues and whatnot," McCoy said. "I wouldn't necessarily say after this trip I'm going to be getting my Zach de la Rocha or Boots Riley on, but it's definitely made me well aware of a lot of things I wasn't aware of before, you know? And I tend to write about experiences in life, and this was definitely a huge experience."

Miley Cyrus might not have been alive in the '80s, but that doesn't mean she doesn't appreciate the decade's music. According to People magazine, Cyrus has recorded a cover of Poison's 1988 hit "Every Rose Has Its Thorn."

" 'Every Rose' is one of her all-time favorite songs, and she is really excited about cutting it," Miley's mom, Tish Cyrus, told the magazine. The remake was recorded in New York alongside Poison frontman Bret Michaels, who is rumored to play guitar on the track.

Cyrus is also hard at work on her next album, but she revealed in an interview with U.K. television show "GMTV" that she's planning a musical hiatus.

"I want to do my last pop record. I'm working on a record right now," she told the show. "I kind of want this to be my last record for a little while and be able to take a break and just get all the types of music that I really love ... you know, my favorite styles, because in a few years, as I grow up, so will my fans, and I won't have to focus on that as much, and I'll be able to have more of the sound of music that I'm into."

In a recent interview with MTV News, Timbaland compared the singer to a friend of his and praised the young singer's drive.

"I look at Miley as a female Justin Timberlake," Tim said. "The reason why I say that is her work ethics are incredible. That girl can sing so good that I was very impressed. I couldn't believe it. I'm like, 'This is Miley Cyrus? She's singing the song?'" he revealed.

Kanye West has been keeping a relatively low profile in the wake of his interruption of Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, but he took to his blog on Wednesday (December 9) for a familiar all-caps post, responding to his 2004 debut LP, The College Dropout, being honored as Best Album of the Decade by Entertainment Weekly.

"Wow ... This is really flattering..." he wrote. "I've had some ups and downs this year, well actually this decade. Just seeing this cover takes me back to that time of my life. I remember how much pain and love went into this album. No one saw it coming. This project wasn't about me, it was about a time in people's lives where people force opinions on you and you have to make choices for yourself. We loved 50 Cent but we wanted to be the yang. We wanted to wear pink polos and rap about being hurt instead [of] being invincible. There was a core group of people who worked on this album everyday.... Plain Pat, John Monopoly, Don Crawley, Anthony Kilhoffer, Manny Marroquin, John Legend, Devon Harris, Rhymefest, Gee Roberson, Hip Hop, Al Branch, Damon Dash, Gabe Tesoriero, Craig Bauer, GLC, Ol' School Ice Gree, Consequence, B Nice and my mom. I was most inspired by The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill and I listened to that album every day while working on my debut.

"Thank you for this acknowledgment and also for putting [Jay-Z's] The Blueprint on the list also. I loved [Andre 3000's disc of Outkast's] The Love Below and [50 Cent's] Get Rich or Die Trying also. They both equally deserved the number one spot in my eyes but there can only be one number one!!!"

Chris Brown Says Tour Is Going Well Despite 'Negative Stuff'

NEW YORK — It's no secret that Chris Brown is looking to reconnect with fans who might have strayed away from him in the aftermath of his February assault on Rihanna.

He's apologized for the attack on national television a number of times; the judge in his case has commended his progress; and he launched his Fan Appreciation Tour in support of his new album, Graffiti, which dropped on Tuesday. Despite Brown's best efforts, however, he's still facing some resistance.

Ever since he announced his tour, the trek has been dogged by rumors of slow ticket sales. But Brown denied the rumors, telling MTV News this week that his detractors are just attempting to impede his attempt to rehabilitate his life and career.

"I think people just try to throw out that negative stuff to keep the cycle going," he told MTV News. "And the cycle is corny. Everybody just needs to be positive. With the Fan Appreciation Tour, every one of my shows have been sold out. Being able to go onstage and see the whole crowd packed and the love from my fans has been incredible."

The "Forever" star has five dates left on the tour, which is scheduled to close at New York's Nokia Theatre on Tuesday. At press time, tickets for Wednesday night's (December 9) show at Sayreville, New Jersey's Starland Ballroom were still available on Ticketmaster, but the other four shows appeared to be sold out.

Originally the tour was slated to culminate with the release of Graffiti, but the album's release was pushed up by one week. Brown, for his part, seems to be taking the negative rumors and the regular stress of promoting an album in stride.

"I think it's only evil trying to bring us down," he said. "If we stay positive [then] nothing can get in the way of that."
