'Breaking Dawn' Wedding 'Cathartic' For Kristen Stewart

'I don't want to say it felt like a real wedding, but it definitely felt like a ceremony,' she tells MTV News at Comic-Con.

SAN DIEGO — For her third visit to San Diego Comic-Con, Kristen Stewart was happy to report to MTV News about getting married and giving birth — onscreen, that is.

While "The Twilight Saga" star was quick to specify that it was Mr. Cullen she shared these milestones with, not rumored beau Robert Pattinson, she spilled the beans about filming the hotly anticipated wedding scene in "Breaking Dawn - Part 1."

"I think the most surreal experience was getting married," Stewart said. "It was right at the bitter end. I was amping up to it the entire time. They left me on my toes for six months. And then it was just sort of very cathartic to see the entire cast in the pews and everyone excited to see how it was all going to go down.

"It had a kind of feel of everyone kind of excited to see how it's all going to go down," she continued. "I don't want to say it felt like a real wedding, but it definitely felt like a ceremony. It definitely felt ceremonial and celebratory."

This is the first time Stewart has had an opportunity to get in on the action with the boys of "Twilight," and from what we've heard, she's held her own against them. Stewart especially got to face off against Taylor Lautner, which she said was a lot of fun.

"Taylor's funny about it too. He's like, 'You're so cute,' " Stewart said. "I think he was a little more intimidated then he led on. Maybe not."

"Breaking Dawn" isn't the only movie Stewart is promoting at Comic-Con this year. She also has "Snow White and the Huntsman," which has its panel Saturday. Stewart shared her enthusiasm about the movie without giving too much away about the plot.

"I am so, so excited. We're in pre-production right now. I think [Snow White] represents so much that I can't wait to get across to the entire world," she said. "Rupert [Sanders], the director, we're so in the middle of forming the story and getting into it that it's hard for me to talk about. I mean, I'm training. I'm riding horses all the time."

'Captain America' Cheat Sheet: Everything You Need to Know

Posted: 22 Jul 2011 03:53 AM PDT

We've been following 'The First Avenger' since it was first announced.
By Ryan J. Downey

Captain America will finally throw his mighty shield on the big screen this weekend. And while Cap's journey from the comics to the megaplex wasn't quite as arduous as the hero's transition from World War II to present day (which involved being frozen in a block of ice), there were plenty of twists and turns before Chris Evans put on the costume that will allow him to lead the Avengers.

A "Captain America" movie actually appeared back in 1990, but to call it a "B-movie" would be generous. Albert Pyun, the director responsible for action romps like Jean Claude Van Damme's "Cyborg," cast actor Matt Salinger in the title role and took several liberties with established continuity. Cap was still named Steve Rogers, still given his abilities by a "super soldier serum" during World War II and still frozen in a block of ice, however, his arch-nemesis switched from German to Italian.

This summer's "Captain America: The First Avenger" returns the Red Skull to his nefarious Nazi origins. Hugo Weaving plays the megalomaniacal fellow experimental "super soldier" who leads Hitler's deep science division, HYDRA, which eventually breaks away from the Nazis due to the Skull's world-domination plans. Steve Rogers is a Brooklyn kid whose scrawny size and poor health cause him to be rejected continually as he tries to enlist for the war effort. A professor's serum gives him a muscular body and super-strength. Thanks to technology, Evans portrays both versions of the character.

Jon Favreau considered directing "Captain America" before ultimately choosing "Iron Man" instead. That film's success established Marvel as a Hollywood studio in its own right (with distribution help, of course), following previous Marvel character flicks like "X-Men," "Spider-Man" and "Daredevil," which were handled by other studios. Marvel decided to mix heroes onscreen as they always have in print (at least the ones they still own the rights to) with next summer's "Avengers" movie building on "Easter eggs" and story connections established across multiple films, like "Cap."

"The Incredible Hulk" director Louis Leterrier was considered for a time before the job ultimately went to Joe Johnston, who had proven his hero prowess and period-movie gloss with "The Rocketeer."

Garrett Hedlund ("Tron: Legacy"), John Krasinski ("The Office'") and Mike Vogel ("Cloverfield") were among the actors reportedly considered for the title role. Sebastian Stan ("Gossip Girl") was considered as well before ultimately being cast as Captain America's sidekick, "Bucky" Barnes.

Chris Evans actually turned the role down. He had played a Marvel hero before, appearing as the Human Torch in two "Fantastic Four" films. Evans and Weaving were the first cast announcements.

"I got a call, and they said they want me to audition, and I said, 'Great!' And then I thought about it and I said, 'No thanks,' " Evans told MTV News. "And then they called back and they said, 'Well, they want you to test,' and testing is basically they'll draw up a contract, and if you're testing then you're only testing with a couple other guys and the odds of walking away with it drastically increase. And again I just said, 'I think I'm good. This isn't really what I'm looking for.'

"It just seemed like the more I walked away, the more they pursued," he explained.

At Comic-Con last year, where he appeared onstage with the rest of the Avengers, Evans told us about all the research he did to bone up on Captain America lore after he accepted the role.

"Personally, when I was going through the comic books, the ones that were most intriguing were the origin stories. I just wanted to get as many different takes on how this guy started out."

Fans were thrilled to learn more information about the Captain America movie as it trickled out online: The Howling Commandos would appear; the Cosmic Cube figured into the story; Tony "Iron Man" Stark's father, Howard Stark, would be a central supporting character, and so forth.

But as it turned out, Evans was still questioning his decision to play the role even at Comic-Con.

"I remember the first time I went to a fitting and I put on the suit, and I just was so terrified, so focused on the negatives, still," he told us a few months later. "I bet when I was at that Comic-Con, I was probably still terrified, probably still apprehensive about whether or not this was right.

"I can't believe I almost didn't do it!" he told us emphatically. "For better or worse, no matter what happens with the film, whether it's a good film or not, it was the right thing to do and I'm glad I did it."

Audiences will have a chance to make up their own minds about "Captain America: The First Avenger" this weekend. Critics have been positive thus far. At press time, the film stood at 73 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, which collects reviews from major critics. "It's paced and designed for people who won't shrivel up and die if two or three characters take 45 seconds between combat sequences to have a conversation about world domination, or a dame," wrote The Chicago Tribune.

Rolling Stone praised the film's star in particular. "Evans, who played the Human Torch in two less-than-fantastic Fantastic Four films, brings such humor, heart and vigor to virtuous Steve that our rooting interest holds even when the action gets to be standard-issue," Peter Travers wrote.

'Breaking Dawn' Imprinting Scene 'Tough' For Taylor Lautner

Posted: 21 Jul 2011 08:48 AM PDT

'Twilight' star says at Comic-Con 2011 that scene was most challenging of entire series.
By Terri Schwartz

SAN DIEGO — There are many scenes in "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1" that fans have been anticipating, from the wedding scene to the honeymoon to the much-hyped birthing scene. But the moment star Taylor Lautner most dreaded came after all of them and involved him finding his soulmate in the body of a newborn baby — but not in a weird way, if that's possible. At least, not entirely.

And since the birthing scene is going to require a lot of CGI before the product is finished, Lautner wasn't even able to act off another person while he "imprinted." "I was given an X on a wall," Lautner explained at San Diego Comic-Con. "I don't know what I would have wanted [instead]; there isn't any ideal situation here."

In the book, Lautner's character, Jacob Black, plans on killing the child that nearly killed his best friend and major crush, Bella (played by Kristen Stewart). But upon seeing the baby in front of him, he imprints on the little girl and discovers that she is the woman he will spend the rest of his life loving, and his murderous purpose disappears.

Lautner explained his experience filming the scene, saying, "I had to walk into the room with the intention of killing this baby and then stop, twist and imprint on it, whatever that means."

Co-star Robert Pattinson, laughing out loud, exclaimed, "That sounds amazing! Jacob's secrets revealed."

Lautner explained that the scene was the most challenging he filmed during the entire series, and it took a lot of preparation to get ready for it. "I spent a lot of time talking to [director] Bill [Condon] and to [author] Stephenie [Meyer] and asking, 'What exactly does imprinting even look like?' " he said. "It was tough, so I sure hope it comes across alright."

'Twilight' Stars Tease 'Epic' Finale At Comic-Con

During MTV News live stream, Elizabeth Reaser recalls 'crying a lot' on the last day of filming.

SAN DIEGO — MTV News returned to San Diego Comic-Con this year, and thanks to the magic of the Internet, we've brought you along for all the festivities. We caught up with Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner from "Breaking Dawn - Part 1," and several of their castmates — Ashley Greene, Kellan Lutz, Nikki Reed, Elizabeth Reaser and Julia Jones — came by to talk to us live.

"The great thing about Comic-Con is that it never feels like work," Lautner told us. "We come down to San Diego, we hang out together, we go in a room with 7,000 fans, it's fun. It's our way of thanking the fans. It's amazing that they still camp out and have that same amount of passion that they always have."

We invited you to send questions via Twitter to @MTVNews with the hashtag #mtvsdcc, and we were very happy to provide some answers. Our live stream was full of "Twilight" revelations, pontifications and ruminations from the cast and director Bill Condon (as well as some expert "Twilight Saga" fans) about the first part of the saga's epic conclusion, which doesn't hit theaters until November 18.

Your Twitter questions ran the gamut from specific story questions to wondering whether the stars have Googled themselves and which of them have watched "The Vampire Diaries" and "True Blood." But mostly everyone wanted to know what it felt like for the cast to wrap up the cinematic adaptation of the popular romantic/supernatural novels that kicked off the current vampires-and-werewolves craze.

"I think the most surreal experience was getting married [in the movie]," Stewart told us of the "Breaking Dawn" filming process, pointing out that the entire cast was anxious to see how it would all go down. "It had a feeling — I don't want to say it felt like a real wedding, [but] it definitely felt like a ceremony."

"For me, personally, the last day, when we wrapped, I didn't believe it," Jones told us during the live stream. "I hadn't even thought that was possible. I just stood there like a zombie. People started hugging me. 'You're wrapped! You're wrapped!' I was in a little bit in a daze."

"I think I'm going to miss the community," she added. "I realize how valuable it is that there's this big group of us and we keep meeting up all over the place and going on this ride together."

Reaser told us she wrapped "at the exact same moment" as her "show husband," Peter Facinelli. "We were crying a lot. We were just completely shocked and hugging. We went out and we had a little meal together. It was surreal. But it was nice that I got to have a moment with Peter."

Reed was also focused on the different character pairings in the film. "I was really nervous about the relationship between Rosalie and Bella," she said during our live stream. "It is a very special dynamic, and I wanted to make sure the transition happened naturally and organically. I wanted to make sure my head was in the right place. I'm a nervous wreck about all of these movies."

"I've been waiting to film 'Breaking Dawn.' It's juicy," Lutz said. "It's a way larger production. We shot some really epic scenes that took multiple, multiple days."

"Twilight" isn't the only major franchise at San Diego Comic-Con, of course. We'll launch another live stream at 6 p.m. ET/ 3 p.m. PT on Friday and Saturday. On Friday, we'll have appearances from Justin Timberlake and Lautner (this time promoting "Abduction") and exclusives from "Cowboys & Aliens" and "Thundercats."

Wiz Khalifa Calls VMA Nomination 'A Good Sign'

Posted: 21 Jul 2011 06:27 AM PDT

'Black and Yellow' rapper says Best New Artist nominees 'are all people who have their own movements.'
By Rob Markman

Before Wiz Khalifa saw his career take flight, his hometown of Pittsburgh stood as a relative unknown on the hip-hop map. The Taylor Gang general's breakout hit, "Black and Yellow," changed that, and now Wiz is being rewarded with a Best New Artist nomination at the 2011 MTV VMAs.

"It's my first video, so I wanted to make it like that classic. You can't do a first video over again," Wiz said of the concept behind his popular video, which has raked in over 89 million views on YouTube. "When I think about stuff like that, I thought about Snoop's [appearance in Dr. Dre's] '[Nuthin' but a] G Thang' — like a real hometown-vibe video, things that really, really show the artist in their element. I figured if I went that way with it, then I couldn't really lose."

Wiz is proud that he is able to rep for his town and said that being in the conversation with other big-time rappers like Lil Wayne and Drake helps him provide inspiration for Pittsburgh's up-and-coming talents. "It's good morale for Pittsburgh, because we never got that much love," he said. "All of our artists have been known on a certain scene or a certain radar, but to be put up there with the greatest rappers and to have their own is really, really big for the city."

The Best New Artist competition is tough, however: Wiz is up against his tourmate, Big Sean ("My Last"), Kreayshawn ("Gucci Gucci"), Tyler, the Creator ("Yonkers") and indie-pop band Foster the People ("Pumped Up Kicks").

"I think it's really good competition, and it's just a good sign of the new wave of how an artist can come up and get recognition these days," Khalifa said. "Big Sean, I know his situation, how he came from nothing. Kreayshawn, she built her buzz similar with the Internet, and Tyler as well. These are all people who have their own movements."

While each Best New Artist nominee is different in their own right, Wiz finds a common thread that binds them: "All of us, we're really just living our dreams and getting nominated for it, so it's excellent."

Big Sean 'Hype' About First VMA Nomination

Big Sean received his first VMA nomination on Wednesday, and hopefully it won't be his last. In the opening scene of his "My Last" video with Chris Brown, Sean looks into the camera and says, "I feel like my dreams are coming true" — must be because the Detroit rhyme spitter is up for Best New Artist.

"Man, I was hype as hell," the G.O.O.D. Music MC told MTV News. "I called my mom at like midnight. I was in Charlotte [North Carolina] last night when I found out, and I called my mom and I woke her up," said Sean, who is on tour with fellow Best New Artist nominee Wiz Khalifa. "I cracked a bottle and everything. That was a real big accomplishment."

The competition is tough, with Tyler, the Creator ("Yonkers"), Kreayshawn ("Gucci Gucci") and indie poppers Foster the People ("Pumped Up Kicks") also up for the award. Sean obviously wants to win, but just being in the conversation is a win for him.

"I, of course, knew it was a possibility, but it's tight to just see it actually come to fruition," Sean said of his mind-set back when he filmed the video. "When I was on the set of the video, I was just hoping it comes out good. This is just like an added bonus."

Sean isn't the only member of his crew nominated: His big homey Kanye West snagged seven nominations, including nods for Best Hip-Hop Video, Best Male Video and Best Collaboration for his "All of the Lights" clip. "He definitely deserves all of them, man, I think so," Big Sean said. "Especially Best Collaboration. That was just crazy, 'All of the Lights.' He had Elton John, everybody on there, Fergie, Alicia Keys, Cudi, everybody, The-Dream."

The Finally Famous lyricist is in full support of his mentor. "Kanye always goes hard. I'm proud of him. I was telling him how proud of him I was the other day. He's inspiring, he deserves every bit," he said. "He gives his whole life to music, his whole life. He's one of the most selfless people I know, so I'm excited. Hopefully, it's gonna be a good night."

The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live on Sunday, August 28, from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT. See the list of nominees, revisit last year's highlights and vote for your favorites in the general categories by visiting VMA.MTV.com.

Jay-Z, Kanye West Try Dubstep On <i>Watch The Throne</i>

Producer Verse Simmonds opens up to MTV News about WTT track 'Who Gon Stop Me.'
By Rob Markman

Jay-Z and Kanye West's collaborative Watch the Throne LP is shaping up to be the year's most anticipated release.

So far, fans have heard the Southern-fried, Lex Luger-produced "H.A.M." and the soul-drenched "Otis," which premiered Wednesday night on New York radio. While the two records both feature hard-nosed lyrics from Hov and 'Ye, their sounds couldn't be more different.

Well, the sonic versatility doesn't stop there. Singer/songwriter Verse Simmonds revealed to MTV News that the multiplatinum rap tandem will also be experimenting with dubstep on the new album.

After getting a call from Bu Thiam, Def Jam's VP of A&R, to submit tracks for WTT, Simmonds and his production partner, Sham "Sak Pase" Joseph, immediately went to work. "What we did is, we locked in a week, we just went crazy on everything Jay and Kanye," Simmonds told MTV News. "I remember telling Sham, I was like, 'Yo, I think this dubstep stuff is going to be the next new flavor that everybody gotta be on. It gotta have a hip-hop feel to it still.' "

The result is "Who Gon Stop Me," a track that, according to the "Buy You a Round" singer, is influenced by the U.K. style of electronic dance music. Together, Verse and Sak Pase make up the Jugganauts, and for "Who Gon Stop Me," Joseph made the beat and Simmonds wrote and referenced the chorus.

"We started creating the track, and it just started to come crazy, so we came up with the concept," Simmonds said before reciting a loose rendition of the song's lyrics. "It was like, 'Who gon stop me, huh? Black cards, Black cars, whole lot of money.' "

To pen the hook on the track, Verse said he first imagined himself in Jigga and Yeezy's shoes. "When I recorded it, everybody was like, 'Yo, you sound just like Kanye, you sound just like Jay-Z,' " he remembered. "It's just crazy, because I felt like, at that moment in time, I was them. I got into that mode of: 'What would these guys say? How would they say it?' I think they heard it the first time and loved it."

Hopefully, the fans will too.

'Breaking Dawn' Shirtless Scenes Make Robert Pattinson 'Nervous'

'I don't want to get anyone's hopes up,' he jokes to MTV News.
By Kara Warner

SAN DIEGO — The most dedicated Robert Pattinson fans — those who have pored over every interview, appearance, etc. — know that when it comes to talking about himself, their favorite "Twilight" heartthrob sometimes gets a bit uncomfortable. Every time the subject comes up, he starts running his fingers through his hair and making jokes at his own expense.

At the "Breaking Dawn - Part 1" press conference before the film's San Diego Comic-Con panel on Thursday (July 21), Pattinson was asked what scene gave him the most anxiety during the "Dawn" shoot. Pattinson was forced to endure a double-dose of nerves in talking about himself and having to address the amount of shirtlessness fans will see in the film.

"The thing I was most nervous about was taking my shirt off," Pattinson admitted.

"At least he's honest!" Kristen Stewart chimed in. "That's cool."

Pattinson went on to say that even though the Edward Cullen in Stephenie Meyer's books is frequently without a shirt, he kept trying to keep himself clothed in the films.

"I've managed to have my shirt on the whole series," he said. "In the book, [Edward is shirtless] almost every three pages. [I kept thinking,] 'How can I wear a T-shirt in the sea? Or a onesie?' " Pattinson joked about trying to film his water scenes fully clothed.

"I don't want to get anyone's hopes up," Pattinson added, speaking to what fans will see of his torso in the film and preview footage. "I look like an inflatable frankfurter in some of those [scenes]."

'Breaking Dawn' Honeymoon Debuts At Comic-Con

In one of two new clips premiered at the San Diego event, newly married Bella and Edward Cullen get steamy in the ocean.
By Terri Schwartz

SAN DIEGO — It was the swoon heard 'round the San Diego Convention center, as the honeymoon scene from "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1" debuted at Comic-Con.

Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner premiered two brand-new scenes from the highly anticipated movie on Thursday (July 21) in Hall H, where more than 6,000 fans had flocked to see their favorite stars. The honeymoon scene, which Twilighters got a glimpse of in a teaser trailer that aired during this year's MTV Movie Awards, was definitely the hit of the panel.

The scene starts with Edward Cullen carrying the newly minted Bella Cullen over the threshold at their honeymoon location, the fictional Isle Esme. One of the most distinct elements of the scene was how adult both Stewart and Pattinson look, marking their transition to married couple. After exchanging a lingering steamy look in their beautiful tropical bedroom, Bella asks Edward for "a few human minutes."

"Don't take too long, Mrs. Cullen," Edward replies, causing an echo of sighs around Hall H.

What follows is a cute sequence with Bella taking some personal time in the bathroom to brush her teeth, shave her legs, pick out a sexy outfit (her new sister-in-law Alice packed only lingerie for her) and shake off her nerves before getting ready to consummate her marriage.

After telling herself, "Don't be a coward," Bella walks outside to the beach in only a towel and sees Edward standing naked in the ocean. She lets her towel fall to the sand, and then walks out to meet her husband in the ocean — right as the clip ends.

Filming the scene, though, was not as romantic as it looks on the big screen, according to the "Breaking Dawn" stars. "Brazil was amazing," Pattinson said of the shooting location. "It was really amazing the day we got there, and really beautiful and warm and everything you'd expect. Then it suddenly, for the remainder of the shoot, was not only raining but like hurricane storms. ... It was kind of like having a honeymoon in England. We were playing board games instead of, like, making love on the beach."

Taylor Lautner's character, Jacob Black, was the focus of the second scene that debuted at Comic-Con. Among the castmembers who also make appearances in it are Peter Facinelli and Elizabeth Reaser, who play Cullen patriarch and matriarch Carlisle and Esme, as well as members of the wolf pack, including Julia Jones, Booboo Stewart, Alex Meraz, Bronson Pelletier, Tyson Houseman and Kiowa Gordon.

The first half of the second scene shows Jacob meeting with Carlisle and Esme. He warns them about facing off against wolf pack leader Sam Uley, but Carlisle and Esme tell Jacob they will risk their lives to protect Bella. Then Jacob and his followers, Leah and Seth Clearwater, head to a meeting with the now-enemy werewolves Paul, Quil, Jared and Embry. Jacob asks them to tell Sam that when Bella's baby is born, he will be the "the one to destroy it."

"I'm the only one who can," he explains. "They trust me."

Lautner comes to the forefront in "Part 1," but he said he was jealous that his special-effects wolf form got to do many more action scenes than he did. "I wish I could be actually doing that. I'm super jealous of my CGI wolf, though he is pretty cute and fluffy," Lautner admitted to the San Diego crowd.

But that doesn't mean he didn't endure some scrapes. Lautner said he actually got a bit bruised by Pattinson during one of the movie's key moments: the birthing scene. "He gives me a nice punch in this [scene] after he finds out I imprinted on his daughter," Lautner said with a laugh.

30 Seconds To Mars Call VMA Nominations 'Humbling'

Jared Leto tells MTV News the band will fly overnight from Ireland just to make it to the big show.
By James Montgomery

At last year's Video Music Awards, 30 Seconds to Mars wreaked havoc on the white carpet, very nearly blinded drummer Shannon Leto with a "glitter bomb" and took home the award for Best Rock Video — all within the span of roughly three hours. Needless to say, it was a night they'll remember for a long time.

Now that their epic, ultra-NSFW "Hurricane" video has been nominated for a trio of awards — Best Cinematography, Best Direction and Best Editing — at the 2011 VMAs, how do they plan to top last year's madness? Well, for starters, they're going to show up.

"I'm not sure if the technical awards are even on the show, but we definitely plan on being there. We're in Ireland the night before, so it will be a last-minute sort of thing," frontman Jared Leto told MTV News. "I'm not sure what'll happen after that. But there's no way we'd miss the show. It's incredibly humbling and exciting to be acknowledged, especially for a very controversial clip like 'Hurricane,' that was banned from a lot of networks to start with. It's great to have it come full-circle and be recognized in this way."

And that controversy — the "Hurricane" clip had to be drastically cleaned up to even be considered at most networks — is just part of the video's mystique. Because more than any of the projects Leto pours his heart into, this one was a true labor of love.

"It was a very DIY project. It wasn't like, 'OK, here's your two days to shoot, you got your crew and everything's professional.' It was very much a guerrilla-style effort, very much a sculpture of sight and sound that we built, and it was great to go through that process that way," Leto explained. "We shot three days in New York, and then I kept shooting and shooting and shooting. I shot many cities around the states and outside the states. We were editing on the bus. I had a great team of people that helped me on this and many other things. [Videos are] as important to us as the songs themselves. I spend as much time on these little mini-movies as I do on the songs themselves.

"I wish there was an award for doing the most with the least. We would've won that one, for sure," he laughed. "We ended up with almost a 14-minute piece, and then another seven to 10 other clips that explored other characters and themes in addition to the video itself."

So, yes, 30 Seconds to Mars will be there on August 28, when the VMAs air live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. And while they might not bring any glitter this time around, they'll definitely be hoping to repeat the other part of last year's show: winning.

"Being nominated is great, winning is even better, but at the end of the day, it's the work that's really the most important, and the people who are enjoying it," Leto said. "The acknowledgement of the project is really great."

Cage The Elephant's VMA Nod 'A Total Surprise'

Posted: 21 Jul 2011 03:23 AM PDT

'I plan on pulling a Lady Gaga and showing up in an egg,' frontman Matt Shultz laughs to MTV News.
By James Montgomery

Cage the Elephant frontman Matt Shultz is still getting the hang of this whole awards-show thing, but he's a pretty fast learner. Case in point: Here's the story of how he found out his band had been nominated for Best Rock Video at the 2011 Video Music Awards. Or, more specifically, the two stories.

"Last night, I was on the Internet, and I happened to stumble across it on someone else's profile, and I was like, 'Whoa, cool.' I mean, it's not an amazing story, so maybe I should come up with something different," he laughed. "What really happened was: Someone kidnapped my mother, and in order to save her life, we have to win the Best Rock Video award. So I called a bunch of people and threatened their lives and, so far so good; I can't wait to see my mom again. The plan is coming together pretty nicely."

And it's a shame that Shultz considers his band the underdog in the Best Rock category, because if they won, he'd definitely give the best acceptance speech. But in all honesty, he doesn't care if "Shake Me Down" triumphs over the Foo Fighters' "Walk," the Black Keys' "Howlin' for You," Mumford & Sons' "The Cave" and Foster the People's "Pumped Up Kicks," mostly because he can't believe Cage are even in the running.

"It was a total surprise. I had no clue we were even up for it," he said. "It's an honor to be nominated, and honestly, I'm not thinking about it in terms of our chances or whatever. I just think it's cool that we've been nominated, and that's good enough for me."

But don't let his humility fool you. Shultz is already planning to take full advantage of the VMA stage — and the red carpet — by getting in touch with his inner Gaga.

"I plan on pulling a Lady Gaga and showing up in an egg," he laughed. "But it's going to be a Cadbury egg and I'm going to wear a little banner around my shoulders that says 'Goo-Goo For Gaga.' It's going to be fantastic."

'Twilight' Fans Dying To See Sex Scene At Comic-Con

'Let's get real: We all want to see the sex,' one fan tells MTV News of what she's expecting at 'Breaking Dawn' panel.

SAN DIEGO — There are a plethora of newsworthy stories coming out of San Diego Comic-Con throughout the next few days, but the biggest on Thursday (July 21) is the squeal-inducing appearance of the "Breaking Dawn - Part 1" cast at their highly anticipated panel in Hall H.

MTV News sought out the most dedicated fans Wednesday night, many of whom have been camping out for the panel for several days, to find out what footage from the film they hope to see during the panel.

"Let's get real: We all want to see the sex," Melissa Miller admitted of Edward and Bella's first time. "We all have interpretations in our minds of what happens, but now we actually get to see it."

Sisters Kristine and Aprille Lacayanga echoed Miller's sentiments, though in a less direct way.

"We're not sure what they rated the movie yet," Kristine said. "But the intense scene when they first make love, because in the book it was very, ah, intense," she said with a smile.

Fan and admitted hopeless romantic Elizabeth Castellanos revealed that she's looking forward to seeing Bella and Edward get married.

"I heard [Bella's wedding dress] is supposed to be really beautiful, and they took awhile designing it," she said. "I'm excited to see the wedding," she added. "I'm a die-hard romantic. I'm so excited to see Edward and Bella tie the knot."

The one male fan we happened upon gave us an expectedly masculine answer to what he hopes to see.

"More fighting," Alex Gilder said. "I'm not much of a lovey-dovey guy, so [I want to see] more fighting."

"What I really want to see is the arm-wrestling competition between Bella and Emmett," Arianna Ruiz said, before her friend Elaine Malmrose reminded her that the arm-wrestling scene could be in the second film.

"Oh, that 's true," Ruiz conceded. "OK, so then the sex scene."

"I'm looking forward to seeing some of the more exotic vampires," Annie Dorado added. "Like the guys from Romania."

"I would like to keep some things a mystery," Malmrose said. "I don't want to see the wedding dress, but there is one scene where they're getting ready to take Edward out for his bachelor-party type of thing."

"I'm a Jacob fan, so I'm dying to see some of his reactions at the wedding," Candy Hattori said. "Just a little bit. Not enough to spoil it, but enough to make it exciting."

At 6 p.m. ET/ 3 p.m. PT, shortly after the "Breaking Dawn - Part 1" panel wraps up, we'll be presenting a live-stream event with special appearances by Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. You'll get to hear from the Big Three about what it's like to bring their film to the SDCC masses. We'll also be welcoming in a slew of live "Twilight" guests — including Ashley Greene, Kellan Lutz, Nikki Reed, Elizabeth Reaser and Julia Jones — to give you exclusive insight into the "Breaking Dawn" panel and what we can expect in the months leading up to the film's November 18 release date.

By the end of the hour-long live stream, you'll know everything there is to know about the "Twilight" experience at Comic-Con — plus a whole lot more. That's because we're inviting you to take part in the action, submitting the questions you're dying to have answered by sending them via Twitter to @MTVNews using the hashtag #mtvsdcc.

Tyler, The Creator 'Cried' Over VMA Nominations

Odd Future MC's 'Yonkers' video up for Video of the Year and Best New Artist.
By Rob Markman

Who says Tyler, the Creator is a foul-mouthed malcontent?

Well, the foul-mouth part is true, but when the Odd Future standout learned that his video for "Yonkers" received two MTV Video Music Awards nominations, he couldn't have been happier, as seen in his Wednesday night tweets.

"Video Of The F---ing Year. What The F---," he wrote before tweeting that he was about to "Pass The F--- Out."

Tyler's self-directed "Yonkers" clip was uploaded to Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All's YouTube page back in February. Now five months and 15 million views later, the black-and-white vid earned the Goblin rapper VMA nominations in the Best New Artist and Video of the Year categories.

Simple-yet-effective, "Yonkers" starts off with the rapper seated on a stool, performing the song's lyrics while playing with a large cockroach, which he later vomits. A visibly disturbed Tyler continues to rap the track's second verse, stripping off his shirt then putting his neck in a noose. In the video's shocking ending, the MC stands up on the chair and kicks the stool from under his feet as his legs dangle in a simulated suicide. "Damn, I'm Looking At The Video Treatment I wrote In This Blackberry Back In Jan. F---!" Tyler wrote beside a link to the clip.

In all, the rapper/ producer/ video director fired off more than 40 reactionary tweets, even threatening to go on a killing spree if he lost Video of the Year to Bruno Mars. Still, through the profanity-laced celebration, Tyler is just overjoyed: "So F---ing Happy F---!!!" he tweeted. "I Cried Legit. F--- it."

'Amazing Spider-Man' Trailer: What We Know So Far

From Peter Parker's 'daddy issues' to his new leading lady, Spidey clip hints at what's to come in 2012.
By Josh Wigler

This weekend's "Captain America: The First Avenger" continues the charge of superhero supremacy at the box office this summer, and the grand tradition of Marvel heroes is sure to continue a year from now when "The Amazing Spider-Man" swings into action.

The first "Spider-Man" trailer hit the Web earlier this week (through both official and leaked channels), gifting comic book fans with the great power and great responsibility of delivering their snap judgments on Sony's developing reboot — well ahead of its summer 2012 release. Of course, we're not immune to having our own reactions here at MTV News. To that end, we took a closer look at the new Spidey trailer and found quite a bit to pick apart.

Even The Best Web-Heads Have Daddy Issues
Most "Spider-Man" fans are familiar with Peter's relationship with Uncle Ben and Aunt May Parker, but the newest film's first trailer puts a heavy emphasis on our hero's birth parents. Although this territory has been covered before in the comics, it's a story far less frequently told than Peter's struggles with Uncle Ben's death. But director Marc Webb has said before that "Amazing Spider-Man" will deal heavily with Peter's daddy issues, and judging by the trailer, he wasn't kidding.

The Dark Spider
If there's one thing to take away from the "Spider-Man" trailer, it's that this isn't Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire's web-slinger. In the hands of Webb and leading man Andrew Garfield, we're seeing a Spider-Man story that takes itself much more seriously than the whimsical nature of the Raimi and Maguire era. Whether you approve of the tonal change will vary based on personal taste, but there's certainly no arguing that this "Spider-Man" movie feels different than the last three, if nothing else.

When Andrew Met Emma
Another big change from the "Spider-Man" films of yesteryear is the removal of longtime love interest Mary-Jane Watson in favor of Gwen Stacy, played here by Emma Stone. Much of the trailer's focus is on the budding relationship between Andrew and Emma's characters, and already it feels as though they share more common ground with each other than Peter and MJ enjoyed in the first film's opening chapters.

Back To Start
One thing that isn't different from the previous Spider-flicks is that "Amazing" appears to be an origin story, just like the first Raimi-directed picture. It's a curious choice: The original "Spider-Man" movie swung into theaters in 2002, and only 10 years later we're seeing yet another re-telling of how Peter Parker got his radioactive spider-powers. There's already debate about whether another origin story was worth the narrative cost, but we'll reserve some judgment until we see the finished product — or, at least, another trailer.

First-Person Heroics
Speaking of other trailers, here's hoping that the second "Spider-Man" spot puts a heavier emphasis on action than this first one. We don't see Garfield in action albeit for a few shots two thirds of the way into the trailer, and even then, he's without mask or costume. The final portion of the trailer, clocking in at almost a minute, focuses entirely on Spidey swinging from rooftop to rooftop ... but all from the character's own perspective. Again, it's a curious choice to show the web-slinging action from Spidey's point of view rather than allowing the viewer to gaze upon the hero in all of his glory. It's bound to be a breathtaking sequence when the full movie hits theaters; as the capper for a first trailer, however, the "Spidey-cam" will likely turn some fans off.

'X Factor' Lawsuit Latest Battle In Simon Vs. Simon

Posted: 21 Jul 2011 01:00 AM PDT

Simons Cowell and Fuller have been in the legal trenches for years over 'Idol' and 'Factor.'
By Gil Kaufman

In one of life's bizarre coincidences, the two men most instantly associated with the global phenomenon that is "American Idol" are both named Simon. Unfortunately, that's where their similarities end, as, once again, "Idol" creator Simon Fuller and breakout star Simon Cowell find themselves locked into a legal battle for control, credit and what is likely a massive pile of cash.

"It's this horrible fate for both of them that they're both incredibly ambitious people who very much like to and need to be the powers of their world, but their fate has been inextricably bound since they rose together on the strength of what was Simon Fuller's creation, 'American Idol,' " Richard Rushfield, author of "American Idol: The Untold Story," told MTV News.

And though Fuller was the brains behind launching "Idol" in England in 2001 (where it was called "Pop Idol"), the show quickly rose to immense popularity, thanks to the breakout stardom of then-little-known music executive Simon Cowell. "This fight has gone through several permutations, but because both have had a hand in the creation of ['Idol'], they have been locked in this combat over it."

That latest twist comes courtesy of a recent lawsuit Fuller filed in Los Angeles Superior Court in which he claimed that he had negotiated an executive-producer fee and producer credit on "X Factor" as part of a settlement in the 2004 copyright-infringement suit against Cowell when "X Factor" launched in the U.K.

Eager to have his own talent show, Cowell launched "X Factor" in the U.K. through his own production company, Syco, putting a twist on the singing-competition genre by adding a rotating cast of celebrity mentors. Cowell saw it as an eventual successor to "Pop Idol," which went on indefinite hiatus after its second season because of Cowell's eagerness to launch "Factor."

Fuller filed suit against Cowell, Syco and the producer of both shows, FremantleMedia, and a lengthy trial was avoided after the two sides came to an out-of-court settlement in 2005 that granted Fuller a "minority interest" in the show and kept Cowell on "American Idol" for five more years, as well as giving him a bigger stake in "Idol."

The deal also required Cowell to not launch "Factor" in the U.S. until 2011, at which point Fuller agreed to pull "Pop Idol" off the air in England.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fuller is now claiming that Fox and producer Fremantle North America — which produces both "Idol" and "Factor" — are refusing to honor that deal as they plan to unleash the heavily hyped "Factor" on American audiences in September.

"Fox and Fremantle made hundreds of millions of dollars thanks to the creative efforts of Fuller," the suit claims. "Now, when it is time to finally perform on these unequivocal promises, Fox and Fremantle refuse to provide Fuller his executive producer credit for Defendants' new television show, 'The X Factor,' and refuse to pay Fuller an executive producer fee 'commensurate with his duties and stature in the entertainment industry.' Defendants refusal to honor their promises made to Fuller is particularly malicious given that but for Fuller's agreement, the 'X Factor' show would not be able to broadcast in the United States at all."

The timing of the suit is curious, according to Shirley Halperin, music editor at The Reporter and founder of its Idol Worship blog. "I think that promo Cowell made where he was making fun of 'Idol' really stung and it propelled this action," she speculated. "It was obnoxious and it made Fox compulsory, since it had to approve the ad. The lawsuit came seven days after that."

She also noted that the suit does not name Cowell as a defendant, but does take aim at Fox and Fremantle. "They came up together and have had this symbiotic relationship for a long time, but over the years, their interests have diverged," she said, with Fuller taking on more management and TV production duties, while Cowell has mostly stayed the course as a TV presenter with the occasional foray into TV producer. "That's divided them over time."

But, curiously, Halperin said when she was compiling her book on the show, "American Idol: Celebrating 10 Years," she looked at the photo archive of every image taken of the two over the years, and even as recently as 2009, the pair looked "incredibly" friendly, even chummy, in the photos. "The relationship is a lot more complex than we know, and it's easy to say it's a love/hate thing, but I think there's a deep friendship and mutual respect, but at the same time they are very competitive and have become adversaries at times."

Rushfield said the battle comes down to "two tremendous personalities" who are used to controlling things at a very high level. " 'Idol' is probably the most valuable entertainment franchise in the world now that 'Harry Potter' is gone," he said. "The stakes are in the billions of dollars ... and [based on] a relationship that came together very quickly and that they're locked into. If they could do it over, I'm sure they would all give themselves a bigger piece."

Fox and Fremantle responded to the suit with a comment to The Reporter, in which they said, "Mr. Fuller has not been hired, nor performed any duties, on the U.S. version of 'The X Factor.' His suit seeks payment and credit as an executive producer despite his neither having been approved by the required parties, nor hired, as such. We believe this lawsuit is without merit, and we expect to prevail." Fuller's attorneys threw water on that claim, saying Fox was "contractually obligated" to approve Fuller as an executive producer on the show and that it has breached that obligation.

"They both want the honor and the credit," Halperin said. "Fuller has always had the credit and no one is taking that away, but Cowell wants more than just to be the guy that judges. He wants people to look at him as a real force."

Pusha T And Tyler, The Creator Start 'Trouble' In New Video

'Trouble on My Mind' clip premiered on MTV Jams.
By Steven Roberts

Tyler, the Creator has made no secret of his affinity for the Neptunes and anything Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo have ever produced or anyone that may have sat under the Star Trak umbrella. So if it looks like newly-minted VMA nominee Tyler is having the time of his life as he and Star Trak alum Pusha T drive through Beverly Hills, sporting black tees and ski masks while egging shoppers, he probably is.

The video for Pusha and Tyler's "Trouble on My Mind" debuted Wednesday at midnight on MTV Jams. The Jason Goldwatch-directed video juxtaposes Pusha and Tyler in each other's worlds. After the two stalk Rodeo Drive the ski-masked way, Tyler's verse transports him and his idol to Downtown L.A., where they cruise what looks like Skid Row with a few skaters, homeless people and Jasper Dolphin in tow.

The video was shot after Odd Future's show at L.A.'s House of Blues, where Tyler broke his foot, so he sports a cast, crutches and a motorized scooter throughout. The final two scenes take the duo to a hotel room and liquor store ripe for thrashing. They both wear the same outfit through each scene with an extra-vicious Pusha going so far as to hop along using Tyler's crutches, rocking a baseball tee and Supreme snapback.

"Trouble on My Mind" is the first offering from Pusha T's Fear of God 2: Let Us Pray EP, which will feature tracks from Pusha's Fear of God mixtape released earlier this year. The EP also includes a few new cuts, including "Trouble," and is expected to drop August 23.

After joining MTV News' Sway live in Seattle to announce the nominations for the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards on Wednesday night, Katy Perry wasn't done celebrating her own nine nods. The California Gurl was one of several celebs who took to Twitter to express their joy over landing a VMA nomination.

Odd Future main man Tyler, the Creator, who surprised most by landing nominations for Best New Artist and Video of the Year, could barely contain his excitement, filling his Twitter feed with celebratory messages like, "This sh-- is crazy. Like, my goal life list is just being checked off. And I'm barely 20. What the f---!"

Bruno Mars — who is up for four Moonmen — thanked MTV for his nods, and then gave props to "America's Best Dance Crew" troupe Poreotics, who appear in his nominated "Lazy Song" video.

Kreayshawn and Big Sean — both of whom will face off against Tyler in the Best New Artist category — also jumped on Twitter after learning they were nominated, "Omg! Nominated for best new artist for the VMAs! Fanatical fantastical!" Kreay wrote. And Sean chimed in with a succinct, "I'm nominated for the MTV VMA's! F--- yeah."

Elsewhere, multiple nominees Nicki Minaj and Chris Brown thanked fans for their support. Red-hot rapper Pitbull was counting the days until the big show, writing, "So excited to be nominated for a 2011 VMA I can't wait until Aug 28th for the Big Day #VMA."
