Crystal Bowersox's Musical Mentors Saw 'Idol' Hopeful's Promise Early

Toledo, Ohio, musicians Ron Rasberry and Bob May share memories of the 'American Idol' favorite.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Ron Rasberry has been playing music his whole life and has seen plenty of good players come and go. But when the amiable, redheaded guitar strummer with the glint in his eye spotted a 13-year-old Crystal Bowersox more than 10 years ago, he knew he was seeing a rare talent.

"I was hosting an open mic night, and she was there already ... sitting at the table with her ma, and I asked the bartender, the owner, 'Who's that?' " recalled Rasberry last week of the season-nine "American Idol" front-runner. He learned soon enough who she was when Bowersox got up and sang Jewel's "You Were Meant for Me."

"Of course, she got up there and played and then sang and ... she was amazing," he said. "She was a showstopper then."

Bowersox followed up that performance with an original, one of several she'd already written at that tender age. Thus began a musical friendship that endures until this day. Rasberry — who has been playing local bars for most of his adult life — has seen his young protégé leapfrog past the humble confines of Toledo's gritty Papa's Tavern, the venue where they first met.

After asking her mother's permission, Rasberry invited Bowersox to come out to his upcoming gigs, lending the singer guitars and amps and helping her hone her stagecraft. "And she just did it, she stayed focused," said Rasberry, who still plays on a beat-up $75 Fender guitar covered with the carved-in initials of friends and fans, including one on the back that reads "With (heart) Crystal 6-00."

Crystal started out playing between set breaks for Rasberry, who said the "aw, cute kid" factor of her sets quickly gave way to genuine amazement at her talent. While Bowersox's mom nixed Ron's idea of forming a band to back Crystal, he continued to support her around town along with another of his longtime cohorts and fellow beloved local musical figure, Bob May.

Sliding into a booth with one of his omnipresent Red Stripe beers and settling in right in front of a mural of Bowersox painted on the wall of Papa's, May (who bears a slight resemblance to rock icon David Crosby) said he was stunned even then by Bowersox's poise and musical chops.

"Of course, when I first met her, she was very young," May said. "But she always ... I was impressed by her great voice. And she still has a great voice; it's just that she even uses it better than she did back then. But it was wonderful even back then. She was creative with her lyrics and the melodies, and now she's even better, a much better guitarist, too."

May and Rasberry are paid homage to in Crystal's song "Grey-Haired Rock Star," one of more than two dozen Bowersox originals that are stocked in the jukebox at Papa's, including the local hit "Holy Toledo," "Sandman," "Ohio Flies By," "Put Your Guitar Down" and "Barbed Wire Halo."

"She's an artist who can bring an emotional response from you," May said. The two men got Bowersox gigs whenever they could, and May tried to encourage the singer to seek out the emotion in her songs and find the words and music that would evoke a response from her audience. She accomplished that tricky feat with "Rock Star," which was inspired by a conversation she had with May about how he played with an injured finger for more than a year because of his dedication to music. Like Bowersox, Rasberry suffers from diabetes, and he said there are plenty of times he doesn't feel well enough to play, but pushes through anyway. "It's what we do," May said. "It's what we love."

"It made me cry the first time I heard ['Grey-Haired Rock Star,'] " said Rasberry, who had heard about the tune through the grapevine. "So, she [played] it when I was in here and pretty much pulled the heart out of my chest."

Both men described the young Bowersox as a "sponge," who carefully observed other performers and absorbed what worked. Crystal eventually hooked up with May's son, Frankie, who accompanied her on bass at many of her local shows when she returned from living in Chicago last spring.

"She just had a way of captivating people with how real she is; some people would be mesmerized," said the soft-spoken Frankie May, who used to perform with Bowersox on regular gigs at the Village Idiot pub on Monday nights that he lamented were sometimes poorly attended. "It's hard to get people to come out to a bar late night on Monday ... but once we got people here to hear what it was about ...we'd start to get more and more people back."

Though they'd known each other's families for more than a decade, the two performed together for only about a year before Bowersox made it to "Idol," and Frankie said he's not sure if they'll jam again. "I really have no idea what the future holds, and I don't even know if she will be coming back down here," he said. "I'd love to play with her again. If at all possible. ... I love her, and every time I watch her, it does something to me. ... It moves me."

Miley Cyrus Shares 'Credit' For 'Can't Be Tamed' Video

'Amazing' director and choreographer helped come up with concept, Cyrus tells MTV News.

Miley Cyrus might have taken some major strides toward her post-Disney career with the sexed-up video for "Can't Be Tamed," but the singer didn't do it alone. When it came time to create a concept for the slick clip — for the title song from her upcoming June album — her director and choreographer helped the star get creative.

"I worked with Robert Hales, who is an amazing director," she raved to MTV News about Hales, who has also worked with Demi Lovato, the Jonas Brothers and Justin Timberlake. "And again, I didn't look at any of his work he's done previously. I don't even know really what he's done previously."

Instead, the two focused on what they could do now that Cyrus is beginning to plot out life after "Hannah Montana."

"I just know that when we talked and what I said, he got excited and envisioned it the way I did," Cyrus said. "And that's what I wanted. I wanted someone that would get excited about it, and he was. So it was awesome. My choreographer, Jamal [Sims], also helped me come up with the concept. ... I definitely am not going to take full credit."

The result of her collaboration is a clip that, according to Miley, can't be compared to previous music videos.

"I made a big point to everyone that I didn't want anyone else to watch a music video and show me and say, 'This is what I think we should do,' " she said. "I don't think it looks like any other music video. I think if we would have looked at another music video or listened to another song or looked at a different artist, it could have easily [been influenced]."

What do you think of Miley's moves in the "Can't Be Tamed" video? Tell us in the comments!

Christina Aguilera Was 'In Control' Of 'Not Myself Tonight' Video

Christina Aguilera has veered toward the provocative when it comes to her image. Whether dolled up like a prostitute in 2001's group track "Lady Marmalade" or clad in chaps in the boxing ring for her "Dirrty" video, Aguilera certainly isn't afraid of sexy. So when fans got a glimpse of the very, very sexy Christina in "Not Myself Tonight," they weren't surprised to see the singer dressed up in S&M gear, getting it on with ladies and gentlemen alike.

But Aguilera didn't make the racy clip for attention, she insisted. The video was meant to reflect the song, which is about losing yourself and doing things you normally wouldn't.

"It wasn't a prove-a-point type of song for me. It was an ultimate need-to-release song for me," she told MTV News, adding that being a mom to son Max doesn't mean she can't be sexy.

"What I do artistically in expressing myself has nothing to do with being a mother," she said. "Those are two very different hats for me, and my little son, he will grow up in a household that is very artistic. That will be very much a part of his life, and appreciating a woman's beauty and the fact that a woman is allowed to express herself in a sensual way, a sexual way, and not have to be ashamed of it."

The singer was quick to make it clear that no matter how sensual the visuals appear, she's always in the driver's seat. "I make sure every time I express myself in that way, it's in a very controlled environment, that I am in control of the environment," she said. "And I'm very comfortable. It's such an important message to me, because I feel there are so many rules and regulations, especially for women," Aguilera continued.

"Men are sort of allowed to be whatever they're wanting to be. You're allowed to be these free beings, and I feel that women should have the same rights. I'm a very sexual person. It's very important to me that that always comes across [and to] always stay inspired by the non-mainstream things."

Gudda Gudda Recalls Getting 'Willy Wonka' From Lil Wayne

'Right before [Weezy] went to jail, he was like, 'Man, you can have that,' ' Young Money member tells Mixtape Daily.

Breaking Through: Gudda Gudda

Young Money's Gudda Gudda has a new video on the way for "Willy Wonka," but he has no idea what the clip will look like. "We shot a green-screen video," Gudda told Mixtape Daily about the production, which was shot before co-star Lil Wayne went to prison. "It was almost like how [Young Money's] 'Roger That' [video] was. I don't know what they're doing to it. I'm kinda lost.

"It wasn't my video at first," Gudda continued. "All I know is that we shot green screen. I don't know if I'mma need to shoot more scenes on it. I didn't see the final cut. If I don't like the way it is, I'm gonna pay for somebody to shoot more scenes for me and make it right."

"Willy Wonka" was originally slated to be on Weezy's upcoming Tha Carter IV, but the YM founder passed it on to his good friend.

"[DJ] Ill Will sent me the beat," Gudda recalled. "He didn't do nothing on the night I played it for him. I laid my verse on it that night. He came back the next day, the engineer pulled it up like, 'Look what Gudda did to the beat.' By the time I came back to the studio, [Wayne] had already laid his verse on it. The song was done.

"I didn't know what he was using it for. Ill Will sent it to me for my mixtape. I already figured Wayne might want it. I was like, 'If he wants it for his album, we gotta give it to him.' So basically, he wanted it at first. We shot the video for it. And right before [Weezy] went to jail, he was like, 'Man, you can have that sh--. Go 'head, man, get you. Put that sh-- out and go stupid with it. Take the song, take everything.' He gave me all that sh-- right before he went to jail."

Gudda said he communicates with Wayne frequently. "I talk to him a few times a week," Gudda said. "He's doing real good, on some real sh--. He's in there being positive, reading all his fan mail. He's trying to stay busy. He's got a job in there. He's good."

Weezy also appears on Gudda's Back to Guddaville mixtape, dropping soon. The New Orleans MC opened up about the warm reception for his last street album. "When I put that Guddaville out [a few months ago], I ain't never get a response like that since I been doing music," he said. "It felt good, I was real humble. It makes wanna go in the studio ASAP. I started working on Back to Guddaville. I didn't wanna leave that space.

"This one is all originals," he added. "I have nothing on nobody else's track. All of it is originals. Of course, y'all gonna hear the 'Willy Wonka' joint with me and Wayne [and] 'Small Thing to a Giant' with me and Wayne. I got a joint called 'Polo'; it's crazy. I got a joint called 'Lock My CEO Up' featuring Waka Flocka [Flame]. That's gonna be one of the hardest songs this year. I promise. I put things about Wayne in my verse. Waka put things about Gucci [Mane] in his verse."

As a bonus for the song, Gudda said he'll feature the recording of an actual phone conversation between himself and Wayne from Rikers Island, where he's been since April, as well as a phone call that captures Gucci calling Waka from prison. Jay Rock, Juelz Santana and various members of the Young Money squad will also cameo on the new mixtape. Gudda said he's excited about his sequel and grateful about the momentum that the original Guddaville tape has sparked for him. He performs material from the tape at shows, several times a week.

"It feels good," Gudda said of his growing fanbase. "I been patient for a long time. People know I been with Wayne for a minute. Me and him been through a lot. It feels good to know that I been patient and I'm getting my just due. I ain't all the way there yet, but I'm making some money. I'm making a lot more money than other n---as. [Fans] hit me and tell me they ... sorry. They say, 'I'm sorry my n---a. I ain't know you was that nice. I take it back.' "

'Letters To Juliet' Star Christopher Egan Brings Out His Inner 'Jerk'

'To be so nasty like that is fun,' he tells MTV News of his pessimistic character.
By Jocelyn Vena

What is a guy to do when he doesn't believe in romance, yet his grandmother wants to take him on a road trip to find her long-lost love? Well, in "Letters to Juliet," Christopher Egan's Charlie goes along with it, lets down his walls and eventually realizes that love isn't as scary as he thinks it is.

While Charlie is a Debbie Downer about love through most of the flick, Egan is anything but that guy in real life. "[I'm] more like Sophie," he told MTV News, alluding to Amanda Seyfried's upbeat character in the flick, opening Friday. "I'm pretty opposite to Charlie, which is why I had so much playing him too. To bring that jerk out and to be so nasty like that is fun."

In the film, Sophie answers a fifty-year-old letter a woman named Claire (Vanessa Redgrave) wrote to Juliet and stuck in a wall where the lovesick appeal to Shakespeare's tragic character for help. Claire and her grandson Charlie soon fly to Verona and take Sophie along on a road trip to look for the man Claire lost touch with so many decades earlier.

As it turns out, Egan had some experience in the Italian road-trip department. "I've done a road trip across Italy with a girlfriend, and that was very romantic," he revealed. "I think that road trips are probably one of the romantic things you can do. To take your girlfriend and just stay wherever; don't have a destination and just drive and see where the road takes you is pretty cool."

'Dancing With The Stars': Nicole Scherzinger Delivers 'Pure Dancing Joy'

After double-dance night, Niecy Nash and Chad Ochocinco disappoint the judges.

Once again, "Dancing With the Stars" front-runner Nicole Scherzinger and partner Derek Hough took the lead on Monday night. The Pussycat Doll grabbed the highest marks for her foxtrot.

The night was a double dance night — meaning the pairs took the stage twice and received two scores. As usual, the judges raved about Scherzinger's performance, with judge Bruno Tonioli calling it "one-and-a-half minutes of pure dancing joy." Their second dance (lead judge Len Goodman said "there is nothing I can say to criticize" the dance), claimed a perfect 30 out of 30 (her first perfect score of the season) for their second routine, a '50s-style paso doble. Score: 59/60

The first couple to perform in the ballroom round was Chad Ochocinco and Cheryl Burke, whose tango disappointed the judges. Goodman said he thought the football player needed more refinement. Tonioli commented that he thought the pair attempted emotional commitment but missed the slickness. For their second dance, they performed a '60s-era super-charged jive. The judges liked this routine a bit better, saying that it was high energy and entertaining. Carrie Ann Inaba told Ochocinco that this was one of his better dances. Score: 45/60

Niecy Nash and her partner, Louis Van Amstel, were the low scorers of the night. Their Viennese waltz failed to resonate with judges, who said there were too many odd transitions. Still, Goodman said he was pleasantly surprised and thought the dance had a "lovely floaty" quality about it. Their next dance was a '90s-themed paso doble. Tonioli said that Nash was a "scary mama" and liked that she threw herself into, but he wasn't sure if it would end in disaster at various points in the routine. Score: 43/60

Erin Andrews and Maksim Chmerkovskiy danced the Argentine tango, a routine that earned her one of the night's highest scores. The judges loved her "so hot" routine, and Inaba said it was "fantastic." Goodman raved and joked that Andrews is a "dirty, dirty girl." Their next dance was an '80s rumba, which drew less than impressive reviews from the judges. Inaba said that the ESPN reporter doubts herself too much, and Goodman agreed, calling the entire dance "jerky." Score: 53/60

Olympian Evan Lysacek and partner Anna Trebunskaya performed the waltz, and Lysacek joked in rehearsals that "the waltz has no hip action. I love it!" The judges appeared to be mixed on the routine: Goodman said even though he thought Lysacek's footwork was great, he wasn't sure whether he liked it overall. For their second dance, they performed a futuristic cha cha, and Lysacek joked that his hips "will be better in the future." The judges loved their characters, with Tonioli calling the pair "Mr. Spock Meets Barbarella: The Next Generation In 3-D." Score: 53/60

Taylor Swift donated $500,000 to Nashville flood relief last week, and the country superstar is continuing to do her part by lending her talents to Nashville Rising: A Benefit Concert for Flood Recovery on June 22. The event will be hosted by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, with funds helping Nashville recover from last week's devastating floods.

Swift will be joined by fellow teen queen Miley Cyrus, as well as country stars like Carrie Underwood, Brooks & Dunn, LeAnn Rimes, Miranda Lambert, Martina McBride and more names to come, People reports. The June show is set to take place at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena. Funds will go to the Community Foundation, which provides philanthropic services in Middle Tennessee.

"The damage that we've seen to people's homes and the effect that the flooding has had on their lives is unimaginable," McGraw and Hill said in a statement. "But we've seen the spirit of our community firsthand, as volunteers, church groups and our local business leaders rally to help. We all need to continue to support those in need in any way that we can, and for that reason, we could not be more appreciative to all of the artists, the companies and the people behind the scenes who collectively will make June 22 a truly special night."

Ke$ha will hold her own benefit concert on June 16 at the Limelight entertainment venue in Nashville. "Nashville helped shape me as an artist and as a person, and my love for this city is beyond words," she said. "I will continue to do anything I can to help rebuild this city and support the families and animals who have been affected by this tragedy."

T.I. will appear on Thursday's "Larry King Live," airing at 9 p.m. ET, to talk with the CNN host about the nine months he spent in prison on federal weapons charges, among other topics.

The rapper was sentenced to one year and one day of prison last year following his arrest in October 2007 for attempting to illegally purchase firearms. The rapper was subsequently released to a halfway house in December to serve out the remainder of his sentence before his ultimate release at the end of March.

Since finishing his sentence, Tip has filmed and released a music video for his appropriately titled new track "I'm Back," the first single from his forthcoming King Uncaged LP, set for release in August.

"I want to maintain the level of success I've been fortunate enough to do, over and over again, over the years," the rapper said of his upcoming album in a recent interview. "This album is different in many ways. I think that Paper Trail was a lot more about thoughts; this is more about feelings. This is significantly more aggressive, or at least at this period in production. Who knows? I can do 10 love songs tomorrow and change the direction. At this point, right now, it's going hard. It's going hard like classic T.I."

Speaking with MTV News last month, The-Dream agreed with Tip's assessment of the developing record. "Tip is in the zone, man," he said. "Right now, he's rapping like he's in space. Not a place we don't know — it's in the same area — but his vibe is just wider now."

Drake Says He's 'Trying To Become A Better Rapper'

'I definitely don't feel that I'm the best I can be,' MC tells XXL.
By Jayson Rodriguez

Last year, Drake topped a slew of veteran MCs to earn the #3 slot on MTV News' Hottest MCs in the Game list.

But in an interview with XXL, the Toronto lyricist said that despite the accolades thrown his way he's still actually "trying to become a better rapper."

The So Far Gone star — known for his blend of singing and rapping — explained that his ultimate goal is to outdo his previous work more than to compare himself to his peers.

"As far as rappers? Um ... I'm really still trying to become a better rapper, you know? And I still have idols," Drake said. "I still have people I look up to. I definitely don't feel that I'm the best I can be nor am I the best rapper. Like I said, I just love making the music, and I'm less concerned about where I stand in the rankings and more about just where I stand with myself, like am I getting better? You know, am I the best I can be?

"I really don't care about like compared to Hov or compared to Wayne," he continued. "That's another man. I've never been really worried about what anybody else is doing. I just use it as reference points and as influence and inspiration, but I don't really bother myself with thinking who's the best. 'Cause that doesn't really matter. It's just who's got the songs that move people at the time. Like if you've got the title of being the best rapper but you don't have the hottest songs out? To me, that's what's important is just like putting out consistently good product."

Although Drake's recent single, "Find Your Love," is more R&B-tinged than hip-hop flavored, the rapper said he still wants to be considered one of the best MCs when his June 15 debut, Thank Me Later, drops.

"I definitely want to be great," he said. "You know, I'm not saying I don't care. I obviously care. I love being mentioned in a class of people that are incredible, but I mean, you can focus on that sh-- and drive yourself crazy. ... In different genres it's way different. I think rap is probably the most competitive genre."

Planning a wedding with the hilarious but unpredictable Russell Brand can't be an easy task, but the "Get Him to the Greek" actor's fiancée, Katy Perry, already has a few ideas for how to turn the couple's big day into the perfect day.

In an interview with People, the "I Kissed a Girl" singer revealed that she intends to keep the wedding a small affair. "I always have a ton of people around me, and I think the people that are going to share this moment with us are the people we want to integrate into each other's lives," said Perry, who added that she and Brand are planning to host "a big, fat reception for the people who can't make it" to the ceremony.

Perry, recently named the hottest of the hot on Maxim's 2010 Hot 100, is already thinking about some of the wedding's other important details, such as who will design her wedding dress. "We have been kind of talking to [John] Galliano, because that was the first [fashion] show in Paris that we kind of came out as a couple," Perry said. "So if we did Galliano, it would make it full circle."

She's also considering breaking away from her longtime plan to host the wedding in her hometown of Santa Barbara, California. "We don't necessarily want it to be a drunk fest of people just, you know, one night and then forgetting about it," Perry said. "We want it to be about the love. So sometimes to be about the love, we have to take them out of their comfort zone."

At 88 years old, Betty White proved she was golden as host of "Saturday Night Live," performing sidesplitting sketches into the wee hours of Sunday morning. As if that weren't impressive enough, the comedian then made her way to the "SNL" afterparty.

"We got through it!" White declared on her way into Doc's Steakhouse in New York, shortly after wrapping her highly anticipated (and hilarious) hosting turn over the weekend. With assists from several female "SNL" vets, including Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph and Tina Fey, who came onboard as part of the evening's Mother's Day tribute, White led the NBC variety show to its best ratings in 18 months. But it wasn't just fans that approved of White's showing; castmembers were equally impressed by the "Golden Girls" actress.

"She was incredible," "SNL" alumna and guest star Ana Gasteyer gushed. "She's still about 15 years old."

Asked to pick White's greatest moment of the evening, "SNL" creator and producer Lorne Michaels couldn't narrow it down: "Pretty much the whole night!"

For castmember Bobby Moynihan, getting to play White's husband in the latest Manuel Ortiz Show sketch was a personal highlight. "I was married to her," he enthused. "I'll take that to my grave!"

"Just having her there, she's such a legend," returning "SNL" vet Molly Shannon chimed in. "She was phenomenal."

The night's musical guest also had high praise for the 88-year-old actress. Jay-Z devoted his second-act song, "Young Forever," to White. Asked if White had called the rapper "Hov" (one of his many aliases) backstage, Shannon laughed: "No, not that I saw. We were too busy getting dressed up and stuff."

Usher, Justin Timberlake, Cher and the Black Eyed Peas' Will.I.Am appeared on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" on Monday afternoon (May 10) as part of the talk-show host's "Star-Studded Harpo Hookups" special.

Timberlake appeared via Skype and gave away a pair of golf clubs to a lucky fan who was surprised to learn she'd be taking lessons on the links with the "Cry Me a River" star. The woman, who claimed to be JT's biggest fan, is set to be married soon, and her fiancé helped organize the surprise. The fan told Timberlake that she listens to his CD when she's having a bad day to feel better.

Another fan, named Josh, was flown to a Cher concert by his partner but got "hooked up" by getting a chance to meet the diva herself backstage.

Peas frontman Will.I.Am took cameras on a tour of his childhood home in Los Angeles and later helped out a family that was struggling financially. The superstar producer helped the family avoid foreclosure. "That's a great hookup," Winfrey beamed after the producer's announcement.

Usher then appeared in the studio at the end of the show to perform his #1 hit "OMG," produced by Will.I.Am. The singer had fun during his appearance, dancing with Oprah and even tossing his designer shades toward her after he walked away from their twirl.

Oprah was fully engaged in Usher's performance, especially during the song's chanting "Oh, oh, oh," which she repeated while wearing Usher's shades.

Many beautiful women made Maxim's 2010 Hot 100, but only one was deemed the hottest of the hot: Katy Perry.

Why Perry? "It's that feeling you get when you suddenly realize that the smartest, funniest, coolest girl you know also happens to the best looking and a pretty good skateboarder too," Joe Levy, Maxim editor in chief, explained to ABC News. "All of a sudden, your crush goes supernova, and this is Katy's supernova moment."

Perry, who just released her new single, "California Gurls," made the list alongside Sports Illustrated cover model Brooklyn Decker (#2), "Avatar" actress Zoe Saldana (#3), "Gossip Girl" star Blake Lively (#4) and "Jonah Hex" leading lady Megan Fox (#5).

"[Megan is] a sex symbol for the ages," Levy said. "Megan's sultry looks hit every red-blooded guy right in the gut."

But it seems that the other ladies don't have Perry's unique appeal, Levy said. "[She's] a triple — no, quadruple — kind of hot," Levy told Us Weekly.

Perry isn't the only pop star on this year's list: Taylor Swift (#31), Christina Aguilera (#18), Britney Spears (#54) and Nicole Scherzinger (#24) also made the cut.

A number of Hollywood's hottest actresses also made the cut this year. Last year's #1, Olivia Wilde, fell to #20 this year. She's joined by Angelina Jolie at #38, Emma Roberts at #78 and "The Hills" star Kristin Cavallari at #76.

Other notables on the list include "American Idol" judge Kara DioGuardi (#93), "True Blood" star Anna Paquin (#84), actress Milla Jovovich (#21) and supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio (#63).

Who else do you think should have made the cut? Discuss in the comments!

Jerry Bruckheimer Confirms 'Bad Boys 3' Talks

'Will Smith came up with a terrific idea for a screenplay,' producer reveals of plans for a third outing.

Between dangerous drug raids and explosive sieges on Guantánamo Bay, best friends and narcotics detectives Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) and Mike Lowery (Will Smith) have gone through more than a few action-packed ordeals together. But what are the odds of the two law-enforcement officials teaming up again for a third round of "Bad Boys" action?

In August, it was revealed that Peter Craig was working on a screenplay for "Bad Boys 3," though the participation of the franchise's key players, including stars Smith and Lawrence, was uncertain at the time. But according to producer Jerry Bruckheimer, the wheels are most definitely in motion.

"We're talking about it," Bruckheimer confirmed to MTV News when asked about development on "Bad Boys 3." "Will Smith came up with a terrific idea for a screenplay, and we've been working on a script, so we'll keep our fingers crossed."

Bruckheimer added that a third "Bad Boys" would have to reunite co-stars Smith and Lawrence, saying: "Of course. They're the guys. Will would love to do it, and I think Martin would too."

As the developing screenplay is reportedly based on an idea from Smith, it's a foregone conclusion that the Oscar-nominated actor is interested in reprising his role as Detective Lowery. And based on previous comments made by Lawrence, it sounds as if Detective Burnett is sharing his co-star's enthusiasm.

"It's real realistic," he told MTV News last month about the possibility of returning for another "Bad Boys" movie. "We're just waiting on Jerry Bruckheimer to let us know when it's really real."

According to Lawrence, director Michael Bay is also ready to return to the buddy-cop franchise. "He said he's onboard too, so it's real," he said.

Aziz Ansari will bring his comedy chops to the small screen next month as the host of the 2010 MTV Movie Awards, but the funnyman is already making plans for his next big-screen endeavor.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mandate Pictures has picked up a pitch for an untitled comedy from Ansari and "30 Rock" writer Matt Hubbard. The MTV Movie Awards host is attached to star in the feature alongside "Eastbound & Down" comedian Danny McBride.

McBride will produce the project alongside David Gordon Green, Jody Hill and Matt Reilly through their Rough House banner. Ansari and Mandate's Nathan Kahane are executive-producing the movie alongside co-producer Hubbard, while Harris Wittel, a writer on Ansari's NBC comedy series "Parks and Recreation," is set to write the screenplay.

While Ansari and McBride both held small roles in the Seth Rogen-starring "Observe and Report" in 2009, the two comedians did not share the screen. Recently, Ansari and McBride were tapped to co-star in "30 Minutes or Less," an upcoming comedy from "Zombieland" director Ruben Fleischer about a junior high school teacher (Ansari) who is thrust into an explosive situation alongside his friend, a pizza delivery man. McBride is rumored to play an imposing goon who straps a bomb to the delivery man's chest in order to motivate him to rob a bank. "30 Minutes or Less" is currently in pre-production.

Don't miss the MTV Movie Awards, airing Sunday, June 6, at 9 p.m. ET on MTV!

"Wow! Lena Horne! What an incredible woman & story of triumph!" Alicia Keys tweeted. "May we all know that life is a journey of possibility as long as we hang on ... "

Diddy also remembered the late music icon on Twitter, writing, "RIP to the QUEEN LENA HORNE!!!!! We thank you for all the doors that you have opened! We love you! WE MISS YOU!"

Limp Bizkit's First U.S. Tour In Nearly A Decade Will Be 'Big'

Lineup includes Ice Cube, Method Man and Redman, others.

In many ways, Limp Bizkit's upcoming Gold Cobra album is about coming full circle. It's their first studio album to feature the full lineup in more than 10 years, not to mention a return to the band's big, Billboard-dominating sound of the late '90s. So, somewhat fittingly, they're promoting it with a full summer tour, the group's first stretch of U.S. dates in nine-plus years.

In keeping with the familiar Bizkit vibe, they're bringing some old friends along for the ride. Ice Cube will join them for the majority of the dates (replacing Snoop Dogg, who was announced for the tour but has since dropped off) and, according to frontman Fred Durst, Cube's not the only special guest Limp Bizkit will have on hand.

"This is our first U.S. tour in — obviously — many, many years, so we wanted it to be big," he told MTV News last week. "Method Man and Redman [will be on] on some dates ... some other bands too. We're excited. We're just going to keep rocking."

Bizkit fans might remember that Ice Cube starred in "The Longshots," the 2008 film directed by Durst. Meth and Red have worked with the band in the past: Both rappers appeared on the song "Rollin' (Urban Assault Vehicle)," from 2000's Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water,) and Meth famously collaborated with the band on "N 2 Gether Now," a hit single from LB's Significant Other album.

And though Limp Bizkit have begun touring in earnest in support of the album, they're most looking forward to the summer jaunt. Because with that tour — kicking off on July 3 in Holmdel, New Jersey — and the acts they're taking on the road with them, Durst and Co. hope to hammer home the fact that they're back and better than ever — and so are their friends.

"Personally, I feel like a lot of rockers don't necessarily go see the urban artists they like at urban concerts," Durst said. "I think it'd be nice to bring the urban artist to the rock place, so they can be in their comfort zone and see some other type of acts."

Limp Bizkit's Gold Cobra tour dates, according to the band's label:

» 7/3 - Holmdel, NJ @ PNC Bank Arts Center
» 7/5 - Cleveland, OH @ Time Warner Cable Amphitheater at Tower City
» 7/7 - Cincinnati, OH @ PNC Pavilion at Riverbend Music Center

'Iron Man 2' Almost Went 3-D, Marvel President Says

Instead of a quickie 3-D conversion, Marvel opted to preserve 'the film's quality,' president Kevin Feige reveals.

Given the $133.6 million opening weekend for "Iron Man 2," Marvel Studios isn't likely to have any regrets regarding the recent rollout of their premier superhero franchise — though a 3-D opening would have been a nice bonus.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige revealed that the studio briefly entertained the idea of converting "Iron Man 2" into 3-D after seeing the success of "Avatar" and "Alice in Wonderland." Ultimately, the studio decided not to pursue the conversion for the sake of preserving the film's quality.

"We couldn't have turned over a version of the movie 10 or 20 weeks earlier for 3-D conversion without undermining the quality," Feige explained. "We used all the time we had for mixing and editing and discovering the right tone."

That's not to say that Marvel fans won't see their favorite superheroes flying around in 3-D in the coming years, of course. According to Feige, the Marvel Studios team "has been doing a lot of research into 3-D processes, and we're looking at it on future films when we have the time.

"We will be doing it at some point," he declared.

Marvel has three films in development for release in the next two years: "Thor," "The First Avenger: Captain America" and "The Avengers." As "Thor" is already well into its shooting schedule, Marvel would have to convert the footage into 3-D in post-production, but "Captain America" and "The Avengers" haven't started filming and could be shot with 3-D cameras.

Would you like to see future Marvel films in 3-D? Let us know in the comments!

Lady Gaga's Monster Ball Tour returns to the U.S. on July 1, after playing stadiums and arenas around the globe for the past five-plus months. So naturally the only thing for the tireless superstar to do was announce even more North American dates ... for 2011.

Yes, Gaga's schedule got even more crowded on Monday (May 10) when she revealed a string of new shows set for early next year. The latest leg of her seemingly unending Monster Ball jaunt will kick off on February 19 in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and will make stops in cities like Toronto, Las Vegas and New Orleans before wrapping on April 18 in Duluth, Georgia.

Gaga's pals Semi Precious Weapons will serve as support on all the shows. Tickets for these latest dates go on sale on Friday (May 14). For more information, head to Live Nation's official site.

Lady Gaga is currently touring Europe and will swing back to the U.K. at the end of May. She has roughly four weeks off before returning to the road on June 28 in Montreal, and then she'll launch yet another run of North American shows, which will keep her out until mid-September. She'll wrap up 2010 in Europe once again, and then return to the road with these just announced dates. At some point, she will presumably find time to sleep.

New announced dates for Lady Gaga's Monster Ball Tour, according to Live Nation:

» February 26 - Pittsburgh, PA @ Consol Energy Center

Ice Cube Trades His Cap For A Sombrero In 'I Rep That West' Video

To avoid L.A. video clichés, director Gabriel Hart takes it to the Wild West.

The classic Ice Cube scowl is still there, but for his new video, "I Rep That West," the veteran rapper ditched the familiar Compton imagery, taking it way back ... to the American Old West.

Director Gabriel Hart (Young Jeezy, Plies, B.o.B) said he wasn't sure what treatment to deliver to Cube. He thought the MC would likely be more comfortable with his typical Cali backdrop. But in the clip, which premiered Monday (May 10) on Yahoo! Music, the onetime N.W.A lyricist barks his commanding lyrics from a desert-like set that evokes the Wild West, decked out in a sombrero and poncho.

"I started thinking about all the cliché sh-- that goes along with L.A. videos," Hart told MTV News. "Stuff that had been killed before. Cube gets on the phone and I give him ideas, but I wasn't confident or standing behind what I was saying. He told me it was cliché. And he was right. He's done everything already, so what can he do that's never been done? If you see my videos, I always want to do something different. But how do you tell Cube, 'I don't wanna do that sh-- no more, I don't want to do any f---ing dominoes'? So, respectfully, I was like, 'Let's do this and that.' And he said, 'No.' So, in my mind, I was actually like, 'Thank you.' Then he said, 'We're going to the Old West,' and hung up the phone. That was the conversation."

Hart took the rapper's concept and fleshed it out with his own ideas. In the clip, Cube is seen in the California sunshine, but his drop-top low rider pulls up to a ranch marked "Pioneertown" as the first sequence begins.

Outlaw Cube soon makes his presence known in town, pulling off a bank heist with help from W.C. and "I Rep That West" producer Jigg. The Los Angeles Coliseum and the famous Hollywood sign also pop up in the clip, the first from Cube's forthcoming release I Am the West, due in July.

"As long as I knew [Cube] was with what I wanted to do, I knew what realm to be in," Hart said of the visual. "I knew, creatively, how he wanted it presented."

Does Cube's new video really represent for the West Coast? Let us know in the comments!
