Jay-Z gave Robin Thicke a guest verse for his upcoming Sex Therapy album — as well as the idea to invite another performer to the project.

"It was Jay's idea," Thicke said about how Nicki Minaj came to be on "Shakin' It 4 Daddy." "We were in the studio, and I played him the whole album. He was like, 'You should get Nicki Minaj on that. She's got that voice. She's got that swag.' So I leaned over and was like, 'Somebody get Nicki Minaj on the phone! Jay-Z said so!' Next thing you know, we called Nicki. She was excited. But once we told her it was Jay-Z's idea to get her on the track, she started screaming on the phone. She was all excited. She's a super, super talent. I can't wait to do a video with Nicki. There's a power in her. It's not just that she's sexy and that's the only way she can get you to like her. She's got charm — not just sex. Some women may use sex to get what they want; others have charm. She's got charm."

The charm of the Slick Rick/ De la Soul hip-hop vibe on Rob's "Meiple (Me I Play)" attracted Jay to add one of his golden verses. The Jiggaman also gave Thicke his co-sign on another of the album's cuts, "Ms. Sex." The track pays homage to Rakim's classic "Mahogany," which sampled Al Green's "I'm Glad You're Mine."

"Her name was Mahogany, her friend's name was Ebony," Thicke sings on the track, flipping Rakim's lyrics. "I said, 'My name is Rob, and this is Jay-Z.' "

The singer said Hov loved it. "Before anybody else heard it, Jay-Z heard it, and he said, 'That's genius. That's genius on so many levels.' He said, 'First of all, who do you think you are? Who do you think you are, doing Rakim? You got ba--s, boy.' "

Thicke's Sex Therapy comes out December 15.

Britney Spears And Madonna 'Tease' Fans In 'Me Against The Music' Video

'I wanted it to be a bit of a cat-and-mouse sort of game,' director Paul Hunter explains.

It was the changing of the guard — or at least the meeting of two of the most influential pop divas of all time — when Britney Spears and Madonna hooked up for Brit's single "Me Against the Music," from 2003's In the Zone. The superstars tantalize the audience (and each other) throughout the flirty video.

"Madonna is an icon of an earlier generation, and then Britney of the newer generation. She was at her peak at that point," director Paul Hunter told MTV News about the video. "So it was a challenge to kind of bring both of the worlds together. I wanted it to be a bit of a cat-and-mouse sort of game and a little bit of a foreplay between Britney and Madonna and just sort of tease the audience."

A few years back, Britney revealed that the collaboration came together thanks to the 2003 VMAs — you know, the show where Britney and Madonna locked lips. "I was in the middle of rehearsals for the VMAs and I played her the song, and she was like, 'That's your first single, right?' " Britney recalled. "I was like, 'Yeah, hopefully.' She was like, 'I really like it.' I was like, 'Really?' I was like, 'Well, you wanna do it with me?' She said, 'Yeah.' "

Hunter said the video was all about setting Spears and Madonna apart. "I try to play opposites, when you have Britney in dark and Madonna in white," he said. "And then we see them kind of dance around the bed ... and you think they're gonna get on top of each other and do something crazy."

But Spears said nothing crazy was supposed to happen; it was all about teasing people. "I never actually see Madonna or touch her; I just feel her presence there," she said. "[The song is] basically about just going to a club and letting yourself go and battling with whoever is around you and battling against the music as well. This is my first time doing a collaboration, and it's with Miss Madonna herself."

With the release of Britney Spears: The Singles Collection, MTV News is looking back on the pop star's career through interviews with video directors, music-industry insiders and Spears herself, as she reflects on some of her greatest hits. Keep coming back for all things Britney, and let us know your favorite Brit songs, videos, memories and more in the comments below!

Exclusive: T.I.'s Grand Hustle Partner Discusses Explosives Scare

'We're trying to stay focused on the business,' Jason Geter says of possible Molotov cocktails thrown at the label's Atlanta offices.

Police are investigating two bottles filled with an unknown liquid suspected of being Molotov cocktails that were tossed at the offices of Grand Hustle Records in Atlanta.

Jason Geter, who runs the label with T.I., told MTV News exclusively that an alarm went off between 2:30 and 3 a.m. Thursday (November 19) at the office. The Grand Hustle staff discovered that one of the office windows had been cracked after someone had tossed a "40-ounce bottle" at it.

Police have not named any suspects, but Geter and company have their own ideas of who the culprit could be. An aspiring artist came knocking at their door earlier this week.

"A kid came over there a couple of days ago that acted kind of crazy," Geter explained. "I wasn't there, but some kid that was a little off was pretty much asking for somebody to come to his party. He got a little irate when he was in the office. We're kind of assuming it was him. He made a couple of threats when he was in the office. Two days later, this happens. You can't help but say, 'It must have been this idiot.' "

The incident has not stopped Geter or his staff from working. Business went on as usual (with the exception of news trucks and reporters), and no one seems to fear for their safety.

"It wasn't that big of a deal to us," Geter said. "But, of course, 50 million people were calling us, which is all good, because they're concerned. But at the same time, we're trying to work and stay focused on the business."

Geter's focus is the launch of Young Dro's new LP, P.O.L.O. (Players Only Live Once). His album will be the start of Hustle's grand attack in 2010.

"It's gonna be Dro, 8Ball and MJG, Drama is putting his thing together, B.O.B. is coming out," Geter said. "From January to springtime, those acts will be dropping."

Of course, T.I. is always aware of what's going on. Geter said his longtime friend and business partner is doing well while serving his year-and-a-day prison sentence. "He's good. He's taking it day by day and ready to get back at it. I think he's really focused on doing his time, more so than anything," Geter said when asked if Tip has been writing.

Police did not return MTV News' calls about the incident at Grand Hustle by press time.

When Jay-Z performed at the Yankees' World Series victory parade, it definitely seemed like "Empire State of Mind" was the biggest song in the country. On Thursday (November 19), it became official: Jay-Z has his first #1 song on the Billboard Hot 100.

Hov had reached #1 before via cameos on Rihanna's "Umbrella," Beyoncé's "Crazy in Love" and Mariah Carey's "Heartbreaker," but none of the songs from his albums had ever made it. Earlier this year, "Run This Town" came close to the #1 spot, reaching as high as #2.

"Empire State of Mind" — which features Alicia Keys — became the blockbuster that broke through with very high-profile performances on the MTV Video Music Awards, game two of the Yankees/Phillies World Series and the aforementioned Bronx Bomber parade.

Jay said the record resonates with everyone, even if they aren't from NYC, because of the underlying message. "Really, 'Empire State of Mind' is about inspiration, it's about hope," he reiterated in a statement Thursday. "I think that's what connects with people."

Earlier this week, Alicia Keys debuted "Empire State of Mind 2" at the PC Richard & Sons Theater in the Big Apple. "I'm gonna play this for you, different than you've ever heard," she told the crowd.

"If I could make it here, I could make it anywhere, that's what they say," she sang. "Seeing my face in lights or my name in marquees all down Broadway/ Even if it ain't all it seems, I got a pocketful of dreams/ I'm from New York/ Concrete jungle where dreams are made of/ There's nothing you can't do."

Chris Brown appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom on Thursday (November 19) for a progress hearing on his probation — and in the eyes of officials, the singer/actor has earned an "extremely favorable" report.

Brown was in the courtroom again in connection with his June plea for attacking former girlfriend Rihanna earlier this year. Brown was ordered to give Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg an update on his compliance with the sentence given to the 20-year-old singer following his guilty plea to a felony assault charge in the case.

According to The Associated Press, Brown attorney Mark Geragos said in the courtroom that Brown has already completed 100 hours of community service in Richmond, Virginia. This time has included such hard labor as picking up trash alongside state highways. Brown has also completed seven of his 52 domestic-violence classes.

On August 25, Brown was sentenced to five years of probation and 180 days of community labor, which he has been serving in his native Virginia by picking up garbage by the roadside and removing graffiti. In exchange for the guilty plea and the avoidance of any jail time in the case, Brown was also sentenced to a 52-week domestic violence prevention class. Brown must also stay at least 100 yards away from Rihanna for the next five years.

After months of silence, Brown and Rihanna have begun giving interviews over the past few weeks discussing the assault. Brown apologized again to Rihanna in a recent sitdown with MTV News' Sway Calloway while Rihanna has talked with both ABC's Diane Sawyer and MTV News.

Schnegg has warned Brown that he could face jail time if he violates any of the probation terms. The singer is in the midst of his "Fan Appreciation" tour. The next step in Brown's legal proceedings was also scheduled on Thursday: a February 18 date in which he'll once again have to speak with the judge on where his court-ordered probation efforts stand.

For a quarter-century, it's been an American institution that has transformed its host into one of the wealthiest, most influential people on the planet. Now, Oprah Winfey is pulling the plug on her massively successful syndicated TV show.

The president of Harpo Inc. — the backward-spelling production company that has overseen "The Oprah Winfrey Show" since its 1986 debut — confirmed Thursday (November 19) that 2011 will be Oprah's last season on the air. In a press release to the television stations that air the show, Harpo head Tim Bennett said that the talk-show queen will announce her decision live on the show Friday afternoon, according to multiple media outlets.

The move is widely expected to give Oprah more time to concentrate on her own cable channel, as well as the almost endless list of media ventures that she currently fuels with her hit-making reputation.

"We have the greatest respect for Oprah and wish her nothing but the best in her future endeavors," CBS Television Distribution said in a statement. "We know that anything she turns her hand to will be a great success. We look forward to working with her for the next several years, and hopefully afterwards as well."

The New York Times reported that Winfrey, 55, informed her staff of the decision on Thursday.

Winfrey has recently been working hard on planning the launch of "OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network," a joint venture between Discovery Communications and Harpo. The channel is scheduled to premiere on cable in January 2011, which could give Winfrey about nine months to publicize the channel on her talk show before it leaves the air.

Eminem is a man of his word. He promised fans he would drop off two doses of music this year, and it looks like it's happening. On December 21, the rhyme legend is putting out a new version of his Relapse LP, subtitled The Refill, according to RapRadar.com. It will include five brand-new songs as well as the hit "Forever" and "Taking My Ball," which was featured on the Eminem/Jay-Z "Renegade Edition" of "DJ Hero."

And Slim Shady said this is just a taste of what's to come. "I want to deliver more material for the fans this year like I originally planned," Em told the Web site. "Hopefully these tracks on The Refill will tide the fans over until we put out Relapse 2 next year."

Eminem has been working on Relapse 2 for several months now, and in October, he revealed that Just Blaze was one of the producers on the record. During an interview on his Shade 45 satellite radio show last month, he said the sequel will be different from the original.

"[The album] is gonna be a lot different than people expect," Eminem told DJ Tony Touch. "As far as the contrast from the last album to this one, I got a couple of tracks with [D12's] Mr. Porter, two tracks with him so far. Four, possibly five with Just Blaze. The overall basis of this record, I went back to songs that are more emotionally driven. The last record I made, I think I was concentrating more on spitting. On this album, I feel like there's some of that, but I went back to songs with [feelings] to them as opposed to just rap records."

Rihanna Says She Still Likes Chris Brown's Music

Though she told Atlanta radio station she's 'over' Brown, singer says she still thinks of him.

Despite all that's gone on between them, Rihanna told a radio interviewer on Thursday (November 19) that she still misses ex-boyfriend Chris Brown and doesn't turn his music off when it comes on the radio.

When asked on Atlanta's Q100 if she misses Brown, Rihanna said, "Sometimes ... actually yes. There are a lot of reminders, like a lot of hotel rooms, a lot of places we've been to together, music. ... There are different things that come up that are reminders of your ex."

Brown, who was in court on Thursday for a status hearing tied to his probation for assaulting Rihanna in February, has spoken several times about how he still pines for Rihanna. He has said he wishes he could be with her, despite a court order to stay 100 yards away for the next five years.

"When [Chris' music] comes on on the radio, I don't snub or turn it off; I listen," said the singer, whose new album, Rated R, comes out on Monday. "I like his music."

Like with any breakup, Rihanna said there are things that make her think of Brown from time to time, and it's been hard to move on. "I've gotten over it," she said. "But there's definitely constant reminders, and a lot of it is listening to the radio and songs coming on, songs that were our favorite songs, or his songs."

Brown, who was sentenced to five years probation and 180 days of community labor when he pleaded guilty to felony assault in the case, told MTV News that he's not quite ready to date again. And Rihanna quickly shot down rumors that she is already moving on with alleged new beau "90210" star Tristan Wilds.

"I don't even have his number," Rihanna said. "I had a house party, this is funny, and you know how you have house parties, and people come over that you don't even know. He came by, which was fun for me, I appreciated the company. He brought a bunch of friends, and everybody's hanging out, but I don't even have his number, so I don't know how I could be dating him."

While admittedly a "very flirty girl," Rihanna said she's not dating now because she doesn't really have a lot of time, or energy, for a commitment. "A relationship really is another life, another career, really."
