There will be no recession in record stores over the holidays. In fact, with major releases from some of the biggest names in music slated to hit stores over the next six weeks, this shopping season is packed with one of the biggest bumper crop of anticipated releases in years.

Unlike past years, when hyped albums by Madonna, Eminem, U2 and other megastars were the focus of shoppers' action, this year's offerings span a wide variety of new stars (the "American Idol" triumvirate of Kris Allen, Adam Lambert and Allison Iraheta), reissues by Beyoncé and Lady Gaga, a greatest-hits collection from Britney Spears and highly anticipated albums from Rihanna, 50 Cent and Shakira. (All dates are subject to change.)

November 17
First out the gate are a number of albums that have been kicking around for so long, some people began to wonder if they would ever hit shelves. Chief among them is 50 Cent's Before I Self-Destruct, a disc that has been pushed around for nearly a year as the G-Unit boss made room for his capo, Eminem, to release Relapse. Kid Sister will also finally get a street date for her long-simmering Ultraviolet album, which has been in the offing even longer than 50's disc.

"Idol" winner Kris Allen will come out of the gate with his self-titled debut, which will vie for attention with the debut from Diddy pal Justin Bieber (My World), John Mayer's Battle Studies and "MTV Unplugged" disc from Katy Perry. Also, look for the Fall Out Boy greatest-hits album, Believers Never Die

November 23
Thanksgiving week will blow things out even more, as turkey-stuffed shoppers will be able to choose from two Beyoncé albums: a live disc called I Am ... Yours: An Intimate Performance at Wynn Las Vegas, as well as a deluxe edition of her I Am ... Sasha Fierce album. She'll be fighting for attention with a deluxe edition of Britney Spears' The Singles Collection, two versions of Lady Gaga's The Fame Monster reissue, Shakira's She Wolf and Rihanna's Rated R.

A couple of divas could spoil things for the array of superstars, as "Britain's Got Talent" breakout Susan Boyle drops her first effort, I Dreamed a Dream, and "Idol" glam rocker Adam Lambert offers up his bedazzled For Your Entertainment. Also set for release is Pricele$$ from Cash Money boss Birdman and the self-titled debut from BlakRoc, anchored by blues duo the Black Keys and featuring cameos from Mos Def, Q-Tip, RZA, ODB, Raekwon, Ludacris and Jim Jones (which actually drops on the 27th, which they've dubbed "Blak Friday").

December 1
The ranks thin a bit by December, which brings the debut album from "Idol" firebrand Allison Iraheta, Just Like You, as well as the first CD from "Dollhouse" singer and Internet sensation Priscilla Renea, Jukebox.

December 8
Things get a bit nutty again the following week, with a pileup of big names, led by Chris Brown with Graffiti, the 20-year-old singer's first release since his guilty plea in June for assaulting former girlfriend Rihanna in February. The hip-hop-heavy week will also see the long-delayed Till the Casket Drops from the Clipse, Gucci Mane's The State vs. Radric Davis, and Snoop Dogg's Malice N Wonderland.

Super-producer Timbaland will host the usual array of A-list talent for his Timbaland Presents Shock Value 2, while 30 Seconds to Mars emerge from a year of label drama withThis Is War, indie faves Animal Collective offer up the Fall Be Kind EP, rapper Redman will also stuff some stockings with a little something called Reggie Noble 9 1/2, Ludacris will release a greatest-hits album and smoothie Robin Thicke will provide some Sex Therapy.

December 15
There are only a handful of big names on the roster for December 15, but they're major ones, led by Lil Wayne's long-delayed Rebirth, the soon-to-be-incarcerated rapper's so-called "rock" album, which will be packaged with the debut from his Young Money crew. Alicia Keys will return with The Element of Freedom.

December 22
And, as befits a true diva, Mary J. Blige has the lane all to herself December 22, when she drops Stronger.

Together, Chris Brown and Soulja Boy Tell'em have the type of star power that could resurrect the Scream Tour.

The duo have collaborated on a record together for Brown's forthcoming Graffiti album, "Bad." Both spoke to MTV News about the song recently, saying it's definitely one the ladies will enjoy.

"Well, me and him, we been on tour together and we're friends, so I was just like, 'Yo, I gotta do a record with Soulja Boy,' " Brown said. "Because me and him are always gonna have, like, this kind of energy, just as far as kids, and with him, he does records that are, like, the easiest records ever. I'm not discrediting him, 'cause they're big records, but he could talk about, 'I got my shoes on, I got my hat on, but I'm fresh though,' and it could be something funny. But it's always something that can be catchy for kids, and I wanna do something that's real cool for everybody.

"Me and him did this record called 'Bad' — it's a nice little joint. I talk about this girl, [saying,] 'She fine.' So it's kinda cool."

Soulja Boy said he knew expectations for the collabo would be high, so the rapper was extra focused when he put pen to pad.

"My approach to it was, 'If me and Chris Brown ever did a song together, it got to be the best song ever,' " he said. "When people hear it, it gotta be automatic — be in all the kids' heads, all the girls definitely gotta love it, all the females gotta love it. That was my approach to it. I was just thinking, 'What is the slickest lines I could say to a female to make them fall in love with this record?' "

Ever since 50 Cent and Beanie Sigel's joint appearance on Philadelphia radio station Power 99 last week, everyone has been buzzing about the new Sigel/G-Unit affiliation. Fif says there is no recording contract for Sigel as of yet, but recent Internet buzz is hyping a song between the two called "I Go Off." According to 50's official Web site, the release date is Friday the 13th.

MTV News obtained a 30-second portion of the song, in which Fif raps on the hook, "I give you something to talk about/ Come 'round me frontin' I'll air you out/ I go off."

While the streets have speculated that the track would be a dis record aimed at Jay-Z, that doesn't necessarily seem to be the case — at least during the 30 seconds we've heard. Sigel's lyrics are ruthless, but don't seem to be referencing anyone in particular.

"I don't shoot sh-- off, I gun it down," Beanie raps. "Walk up on n---as and run 'em down/ Won't stop till your box goeth underground/ Put you in an urn, your bones will burn/ The rap gorilla, the wack rap ringtone killa/ I'm here to find a n---a eating who's realer is rare/ You could meet me the square if you dare to come near."

As far as the G-Unit affiliation, 50 Cent said that he and Sigel had met but talk about a signing was premature.

"I had a meeting with him today," 50 said Thursday. "First we gotta start with the music — where's the music? Then we have to get into what it would take to bring him over to G-Unit as a record company. You can't sign a deal in a conversation — it's a process. We'll see what happens."

Shakira Says Neptunes, Wyclef Helped Her Experiment On She Wolf

Shakira's latest singles, "She Wolf" and "Give It Up," are just a taste of the new direction the singer is taking in her November 23 release, She Wolf. Though she's never been a conventional pop star, to say the least, the Colombian songstress says that this album is pushing the boundaries, with the help of producers like the Neptunes and Wyclef Jean.

"[Pharrell] was very open," Shakira told MTV News. "He's a very smart guy. He gets me. He understands what I'm about, what I stand for musically and artistically. He knows that I like to combine influences from different worlds and make them coexist under the same roof."

The new album is her most electronic so far, and it draws influence from a variety of different locations, including Colombia, India, the Middle East and Jamaica. She hopes that it keeps that fusion element she likes so much.

"I like to experiment and see how all these things can survive within a pop record, and working with Pharrell is a great experience," she said. "He's very fast, and I'm kind of slow, take my time. But working with him was great. I really learned a lot. ... As well with Wyclef Jean. He's a great friend and a great artist. He's pure and real; he's a real musician."

And her collaboration with Wyclef isn't just "Hips Don't Lie" 2.0. Instead, the pair tried on a few new hats for the track "Spy," a super dark, ultra-sexy retro disco track. "We hung out in Bahamas, which is where I live. After a few days searching, looking for different inspirational sources, we got to 'Spy,' which is a different direction for both of us," she said. "But we instantly recognized the value of the song. It's definitely different. It's sexy in its own way."

Demi Lovato Urges 'Girl Empowerment' In 'Remember December' Video

'It's all about being fierce and kind of, like, taking control as a girl,' she says.

Demi Lovato isn't afraid to get a little angsty about love on her new single, "Remember December," the video for which hit airwaves Thursday (November 12). The Disney singer/actress said the track is meant for all her girls out there who need to remind guys that they messed up.

"The music video relates to the song in a way that a girl has so much to say to the guy, and it feels like he's not listening, and she wants him to remember everything that they had," she told MTV News. "And so instead of having a love interest in this video, it's all about being fierce and kind of, like, taking control as a girl. It's like girl empowerment. Yeah, divas!"

Lovato said the song is near and dear to her but wouldn't say just who the unlucky guy is at the center of the song. "I love this song for many reasons," she said. "It had a different sound than a lot of my songs. I related to it personally more than other songs, and I have so much fun with it. I thought if it could be a single that it would be incredible to perform it all the time."

The song diverges a bit from Lovato's typical pop/rock sound, she said. "What stands out about the song [is that] I can dance to it and rock out to it, which is ultimately my goal," she said. "I was just so excited when I heard this one, 'cause it's the epitome of where I want to go with the future."

Donnis Makes His Mark With 'Everyman Rap'

'Everybody doesn't get to ride in a Maybach every day,' Atlanta MC tells Mixtape Daily of his relatable rhymes.

This month in Fire Starter, we're introducing some emerging talent from the South we feel you should be up on. Last week, we brought you Pill. Now, we're keeping it in Atlanta for Donnis. If you don't' know, now you will.

Fire Starter: Donnis

Atlanta's Donnis is no superman; he's everyman.

"I feel like 'everyman rap' is kind of coming back, you know what I mean?" the 22 year-old said about his relatable lyrics. "And people are really feeling it, because it's something they can rap to. It's something they can live by, because everybody doesn't get to ride in a Maybach every day."

It's not "Maybach Music" just yet for Don. "It's 'Honda Music' for me," he laughed.

Donnis might soon have enough loot to get into one of those luxury vehicles soon. His camp said several labels, including Atlantic, Universal and Jive, are courting the up-and-comer. The buzz has been slowly building since he put out his The Diary of an ATL Brave mixtape with apparel brand 10 Deep (celebs such as T-Pain have been seen rocking a "Sexy Time" T-shirt, which was named after one of the record's highlights). Just a couple of weeks ago, he left his mark on the CMJ conference. Professionals and fans alike gave Donnis kudos for his rhymes and for keeping his composure after an onstage incident with an overzealous fan.

Donnis' poise is the reason he's making his way in hip-hop right now. The talented Atlanta MC almost hung up the mic before recording The Diary of an ATL Brave. He kept his cool and gained inspiration from the J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League production team.

I don't feel like people know, but in the track 'Here to Stay' With Marsha [Ambrosius], I was like, 'I thought I died but was revived by my allies,' " Donnis detailed. "That right there, that's the J.U.S.T.I.C.E League. Like, they really kind of resurrected me as far as wanting to do music, because it kind of died for me."

The League, who have produced tracks for Jay-Z, Rick Ross and Bun B, gave Don a big co-sign, telling him he was up next. "I just went in with them, and it was like a breath of fresh air for them to tell me, 'Yo, you got it.' "

In addition to "Here to Stay," the League produced "Sexy Time," "I Am Me" and "Ticket to the Moon."

It was Donnis' ticket to Tokyo that inspired him to pursue hip-hop seriously. It provided him an outlet to talk about all his new experiences while was overseas serving in the Air Force. One of Japan's biggest DJs, Master Key, took him under his wing.

"I was just doing shows close to the base, and then I spread it out and did it in the city," Donnis recalled. "[Master Key] got wind of it, and we kind of just took off. [I] opened for T.I. and anybody who would come out. Anybody who would come out to Tokyo, I was opening for them, and it kind of just got to the point where it was like, 'OK, you doing good out here, but you don't speak Japanese. What you going to do?' "

After serving close to three years in the Air Force, he returned to ATL to record the mixtape. Donnis is continuing to push his product. His record "Gone" is getting play on New York radio station Hot 97 as well as his local ATL stations.

Exclusive: Hear Travis Barker's Remix Of Drake's 'Forever'

'It was a tough one, man,' Blink-182 drummer says of crafting his remix of the track featuring Kanye West, Lil Wayne and Eminem.

Apparently, Travis Barker doesn't sleep. At all. Which is how he's able to keep cranking out remixes while simultaneously working on a new Blink-182 record, his own solo album, and rehearsing for an upcoming show with none other than Slash (a November 22 benefit for the Los Angeles Youth Network). And that's not even getting into his business ventures, or his role as a rock-and-roll dad.

"Yeah, I wake up at 6," he laughed. "I'm a busy man, I guess."

Seriously, the guy never rests. And as if you need further proof of this, check out his brand-new remix of Drake's "Forever" (with video of Travis drumming), which Barker emailed to MTV News Wednesday (November 11) morning. It's just the latest in a long line of hip hop tracks he's remixed (earlier this year, he took a stab at Eminem's gory "3 A.M." and his take on Soulja Boy's "Crank That" has already established itself as a YouTube staple), and it just proves that he can't leave a good beat alone.

"This song gets played so much — whether it be on TV or on the radio or XM — and I think songs like this that you can't escape, you start to get ideas in your head about how you'd want to flip it," Barker said. "And this song is awesome; every verse is crazy. Who could ask for a better lineup as far as rappers? And everyone's going in on their verse. So I was excited about it, I didn't have to think twice about getting on it."

Working strictly off an a cappella track, Barker crafted his "Forever" mix from the ground up, spending a week tinkering in the studio with his production partner, Sweatshop. The main goal, he said, was to build a drum line that matched the constantly shifting mood and tempo of the song, which famously features verses from Kanye West, Lil Wayne and Eminem, even if that meant showing a bit of restraint on the remix — something he's not used to doing.

"Remixes are hard, because some of my critics will be like, 'Trav, you shoulda gone bananas on it,' but going bananas on it will sometimes take away from how cool a song is — it's a happy medium," he laughed. "With this one, I see a gradual crescendo — it just gets bigger and bigger and bigger, all the way up until the last chorus, where I crash out and there's a big Phil Collins moment, with a drum-fill solo underneath Drake's chorus. It was a tough one, man."

So is Drake happy with the end result? Barker has no idea — seems Drizzy hasn't even heard the remix yet. No one has. Until now, that is.

"No one's heard this!" Barker said. "Actually, Marshall [Mathers, a.k.a. Eminem] heard it, and he loved it — but no one else has."

Shakira On She Wolf: 'I Like To Listen To My Instincts'

Shakira is about to release her latest English-language effort, the sexy, quirky She Wolf, on November 23. The first single, the title track, caught fans' attention with coos and howls about a woman finding and acting on her animal instincts.

Shakira realized that putting out the unique tune was a bit of a risk, but one she knew she had to take. "I had to do it. It was an impulse and I usually like to listen to my instincts," She explained to MTV News. "So 'She Wolf' was a surprise."

The song wasn't even planned, really — it just came about after a lousy day in the studio. "I was in the studio working on another track. I was in a terrible mood one day and we started working on this idea of a track that we had," she said, explaining that "She Wolf" soon arrived. "I knew it was a little bit risqué, but I was howling and we had the song."

Having the song come to her in such a "visceral way" meant that she couldn't just discard it. "I didn't take that for granted. I think every woman has a she wolf inside. I think every person in the world has an instinctive and primal aspect," she said. "We belong to the animal kingdom, don't we? The reality there is this irrational part within that always exists and can drive us to places."

So what takes Shakira to that animal place? "Music, wine — red wine. It does make me sleepy at first and then I'm like, 'Whoa. I'm good.' By the second glass, I'm drunk."

30 Seconds To Mars: 'We Killed Ourselves To Make This Album'

'It was a time to redefine, rediscover, reinvent, reinvest in each other,' Jared Leto says of This Is War.
By James Montgomery

By their own admission, 30 Seconds to Mars went to hell and back to make their new album, This Is War, so you can't blame them for being a little hesitant to talk about the process. Sometimes, words aren't enough.

"I don't know what to say. We spent two years of our lives working on that record, and it was us against the world. We didn't have outside influence or help, we didn't have a label, we had us, betting the farm, and pushing ourselves," frontman Jared Leto sighed. "There were times that it was overwhelming. Everything that was going on was brutal, but there were beautiful moments as well. There was so many outside influences that were in conflict that working on the record was actually quite peaceful. It was a case of survival, to tell the truth."

The two-year battle that surrounded War has been as well-documented as the album itself, and now, with the December 8 release date quickly approaching, 30 Seconds to Mars are ready to put the past behind them and start talking about the future.

"It's terrifying that the album is so close. There's so much going on in my head," Leto laughed. "One thing that I know is that this record is really the best that we can do. It's everything that we have inside of us. It's our complete commitment, it's our complete abandonment, our blood and our bones and our heart and our soul, and everything. Everything we have is in this record, so that's what we have to say. ... Regardless of what anyone thinks of the record, we made the record we set out to make. ... Who knows if anyone in the world will like it or not? That's to be determined."

And while there's plenty of time to talk about the somber, icy songs on War, the important thing to mention right now is that the record is done, there's a video due to premiere and 30 Seconds to Mars made it out alive. It's time to celebrate, really.

"We were literally having to kill ourselves at times. I had it written on the wall: 'Kill yourself to finish.' There were no other options," Leto said. "So we did that. It was a time to redefine, rediscover, reinvent, reinvest in each other. We thought about this record in a very deep way, and it means a lot to us. ... Music can just be fun, but it can also do more, mean more, and that's just what it is for us, I suppose."
