RICHMOND, VirginiaChris Brown first broke his silence about his February assault of Rihanna in a sit-down with Larry King, where he deflected specific questions about the incident, at times frustrating the CNN host. But throughout the interview, the embattled singer made an effort to apologize profusely for his actions.

Reaction to the interview, which took place in September, was mixed. Abuse experts slammed Brown, saying he didn't seem inclined to change his behavior. Fans were more forgiving and said the star deserved a second chance to redeem himself.

Brown told MTV News correspondent Sway that he wasn't sure exactly how he would come off during the interview with King. He admitted he was coached for media appearance and worried that his sincerity would get lost in translation after too much preparation.

"I was so nervous. I was super nervous. I didn't know what to think [going in]," Brown said during a one-on-one sit-down for the MTV News special "Chris Brown: The Interview," airing Friday (November 5) at 6 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. " 'Man, I'm going to get on here, and they're going to chew me up and everybody is just going to go in on me.' So I was more scared than anything.

"[There's] really not too much preparing you can do," he continued. "I did a lot of media training and a lot of stuff like that, and it kind of wasn't genuine to me. Everything I was saying was from my heart, but it was kind of controlled. 'Well, don't say it like this, because it will look like that.' "

Brown said he wanted to "just be personable," but the setting was uncomfortable for him. "It wasn't that kind of situation where I could be me," he said. "So I was just: 'I don't wanna say anything wrong.' "

Since his interview with King, where he appeared alongside his mother and attorney, Brown has had just one other conversation about the assault, with Hot 97's Angie Martinez last month. Brown opened up more with Martinez, discussing his therapy sessions, expressing more remorse and telling the DJ that young men should use his ordeal as an example. "I would say, point blank, definitely learn from my mistakes," he urged.

The singer opens up even more about Rihanna, the night in question and his future plans during "Chris Brown: The Interview."

"The point of how I felt and what I wanted to get across came out [in the CNN interview], but I think at the end of the day, with any interview, even with this interview, I'm going to get public scrutiny or criticism regardless of what I say," Brown said. "So I just didn't know what was going to be said. I just wanted to let people know how I felt, at the end of the day."

Chris Brown opens up about the February assault and its aftermath in "Chris Brown: The Interview," airing tonight at 6 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.

The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive

Not so fast. After Beanie Sigel and 50 Cent sat down for a joint interview with Philadelphia radio station Power 99 earlier this week, the streets thought Sigs signing with G-Unit was already a done deal. According to 50, they did talk about it, but still have a long way to go.

"I had a meeting with him today," 50 said Thursday. "First we gotta start with the music — where's the music? Then we have to get into what it would take to bring him over to G-Unit as a record company. You can't sign a deal in a conversation — it's a process. We'll see what happens."

Fif did note that he thinks Beanie is capable lyrically and looks forward to hearing what he has in his vaults.

"I would listen to what he has," Fif explained. "His skills haven't diminished. Nine times out of 10, he'll have something workable already on deck. When you're dealing with artists who have been established longer than you, it's a process. You have to figure out exactly where they are at before you commit to being a part of those projects, because they have habits and they've been conditioned for something different. You have to figure out exactly what that is before you dive in."

The Broad Street Bully isn't the only established MC Fif is thinking about extending an invitation to.

"I got artists who I'm looking at," he said. "A few of them aren't actively available for me to do different things with them. But I'm looking to sign new artists into the actual company."

Lady Gaga Plans To Battle Her 'Monsters' During Monster Ball Tour

Lady Gaga has been describing her forthcoming Monster Ball Tour as an electro-pop opera. The singer said her fans won't just be getting a concert, but her take on Broadway. Imagine her bloody VMA performance taken to the next level.

"The basic philosophy of the show is theatrical," she said. "And that's what opera is — it's an ostentatious, over-the-top interpretation of a story. So that's what pretty much my whole life is, but that's what the show is [also]."

She said the tour's theme is evolution, in a very literal sense. "I begin as a cell and I grow and change throughout the show," she said. "And it's also done in what now is becoming my aesthetic, which is, you know, it's part pop, part performance art, part fashion installation — so all of those things are present."

The show, like her album re-release The Fame Monster, out November 23, is all about battling demons. "It's a story," she explained. "It's me battling all my monsters along the way. I'm playing all the music from The Fame, all the music from The Fame Monster. And the stage that I designed with the Haus [of Gaga] is a giant cube that sits. Imagine you were to hollow out a TV and just break the fourth wall on a TV screen. It forces you to look at the center of the TV. It's my way of saying, 'My music is art.' "

Rihanna Fans Speak Out About Her 'Good Morning America' Appearance

'I'm glad that she finally took the time to address it,' one fan says of Rihanna's comments on Chris Brown assault.

NEW YORK — After months of silence, Rihanna spoke out about Chris Brown's assault on her earlier this year in an interview that aired Thursday (November 5) on "Good Morning America." and will continue on "20/20" Friday night. In it, a visibly emotional Rihanna explains to Diane Sawyer her thoughts and feelings about the assault, saying that she is "embarrassed" to have loved someone like Chris Brown.

MTV News went into Times Square to get fans' reactions to Rihanna's appearance. Most Rihanna fans supported her and even thought that the statements were empowering.

Rashada, 22, said, "I'm glad that she finally took the time to address it.  It was really heartfelt and I'm glad that she said what she needed to get across, because sometimes when you're that far in love those things happen and you can't get out of it."

Johanna, 21, agreed. "I think she's proved that she's a strong, independent woman by handling this very maturely, even though she's very young."

Alexis, 18, had some sympathy for Brown. "I truly feel that what happened with them was an honest mistake," she said.

Others questioned Rihanna's motives for choosing this time to speak out. DeAndrea, 26, was skeptical. "I think it's [Rihanna's] way of creating her own kind of controversy. Like, why would you let it go on for this long and then want to say something ... And even when [he talked about the assault in interviews], he never really disrespected her by telling the details of what happened."

Even more skeptical was Nancy, 25. "Her new album is coming out and she needs a little publicity, so she wants to go around and talk about it. I think everyone's over it," she said.

Others said they think people can benefit from Rihanna's comments. Joe, 25, said, "Personally I'm glad that she's speaking out because lots of girls her age — and girls younger than her — go through experiences like this."

Kate, 18, said, "We have to look inside our own lives and learn from what we see on TV, and not only pay attention to that but pay attention to our own lives. We have to use to it enhance ourselves and our relationships with the people around us."

Rihanna Calls Assault 'Humiliating' And 'Embarrassing' On 'Good Morning America'

'I even went back after he beat me, which was wrong,' singer tells Diana Sawyer.
By Jocelyn Vena

Rihanna spoke candidly about being assaulted by Chris Brown in her first televised interview since the February incident. She said the assault was "humiliating" and "traumatizing," and admitted that going back to Brown shortly after it happened was "wrong."

"That's embarrassing that that's the type of person that I fell in love with," Rihanna told Diane Sawyer in the interview that aired in part on "Good Morning America" on Thursday (November 5) and will air in full on "20/20" Friday night. "[I was] so far in love, so unconditional that I went back. It's humiliating to say this happened. To accept that? It's a traumatizing experience."

Rihanna told Sawyer that on February 8, Brown put her in a headlock twice and bit her ears and fingers. Soon after the incident, a police photo leaked, showing the singer to be badly bruised. But weeks later, she and Brown were spotted vacationing together in Miami.

"I stayed. I even went back after he beat me, which was wrong," she admitted. "But again ... I'm a human being, and people put me on a very unrealistic pedestal. And all these expectations, I'm not perfect. Also it's pretty natural for that to be the first reaction. ... It's completely normal to go back. You start lying to yourself. The minute the physical wounds go away you want this thing to go away. This is a memory you don't want to have ever again."

Sawyer cited the statistic that it takes a woman an average of seven incidences to leave an abusive relationship. "Eight or nine, actually," Rihanna said. "And I don't want that to happen. That's not what I want to teach people. ... I didn't cause this. I didn't do it. This happened to me, and it can happen to anybody. A lot of women experience what I did, but not in the public, so it made it really difficult. I just felt like, 'Here goes my little bit of privacy, exposed something that nobody wants anybody to know.' So, here I am with the whole world knowing."

Beyonce Wins Big, Jay-Z And U2 Shine At MTV Europe Music Awards

Katy Perry hosts Green Day, Shakira, Jonas Brothers and more at Berlin's O2 Arena.

Bowler caps, bow ties, corsets, crystals, "boobie thingies" — no, these are not the remnants of last weekend's Halloween rave but rather the accoutrements returning host Katy Perry flounced around in at this year's MTV Europe Music Awards. Together with the theme "Katy Kat Club," the Sally Bowles-inspired garb was only appropriate as the 16th annual EMAs returned to its inaugural location of Berlin, just days before the 20th anniversary of when the Berlin wall came tumbling down.

Jay-Z, Beyoncé, U2, Tokio Hotel, Leona Lewis, David Hasselhoff, Juliette Lewis, Shakira, the Jonas Brothers and Tokio Hotel were just some of the stars that turned up on the red carpet to commence the largest awards show in MTV Europe's history. A staggering 17,000 audience members congregated at Berlin's O2 Arena and Brandenburg Gate, while an estimated 2 billion people tuned in from home.

It was a night contrasted by both the old and new, bad jokes on the German language and crackling political overtones. Veteran act Green Day opened up the show with a blistering two-song performance that had lead singer Billie Joe pogoing his way through the crowd and ending in shooting flames and fireworks as "Minority" slowed to its last four-note chord. (Proving why the group was once synonymous with teenage angst, Joe later returned to the stage after winning for Best Rock with these wise words: "Great that we got the best co-- band — I mean, rock band. Pardon my German.")

A slithering and glittering Katy Perry then took the stage, bellowing out "Herzlich wilkommen meine damen und herren!" and performed a raw-vocal medley that included the Black Eyed Peas' "I Gotta Feeling" and Lady Gaga's "Poker Face." Curiously, Perry then ribbed Lady Gaga later during the show when she emerged from a set design involving a giant ruby-red shoe. "They say that if a guy has big shoes, then he has ... the funny thing is, I think this belongs to Lady Gaga!"

The first award of the night went to U2 for Best Live Act. Taking the stage, Bono introduced the Edge, who in an emotional speech expressed how the recording of "One" in Berlin — inspired by Germany's then-recent reunification and symbol as the new Europe — "brought the band together." More East/West references abounded. Upon winning the award for Best Urban, Jay-Z, donning sunglasses and a black leather jacket, succinctly said, "The will come a day when the only walls that come down are just music," then said something about the Jonas Brothers.

Both Lady Gaga (Best New Act) and Eminem (Best Male) accepted their awards remotely through televised acceptance speeches.

And what is an awards show in Germany without the Hoff? Clad in a dazzling chrome silver dinner jacket, David Hasselhoff returned the country's seemingly undying love for him by flashing his select knowledge of the native language. "Yo! Twenty years! Alles klar! I am not responsible for the wall falling down," the former "Baywatch" actor announced with an apparent slur. "Wie gehts? Alles klar! Gut!"

But it was three-time winner Beyoncé (Best Song, "Halo"; Best Female; Best Video, "Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)") who had the best line of the night. Having performed earlier in a silken red set straight out of a Daphne du Maurier novel, the visibly weary singer simply said upon receiving her final award: "There is one person I want to thank, and that is Jay — for putting a ring on it!" then shot her fist into the air to loud cheers. "You go, B!" Katy Perry shouted from the sidelines.

Despite other spirited performances from Jay-Z, Shakira and overwhelmingly popular local androgynoids Tokio Hotel, the true stage spectacle of the night came from Leona Lewis. What started off as a rather standard rendition of "Happy," set against a starry background, experienced a jaw-dropping special effect as a green vortex whirred around the singer then dramatically vanished into glittering stardust.

In the much-publicized highlight of the evening, Dublin rockers U2 performed a free 20-minute set in front of the historic Brandenburg Gate for the rabid 10,000 fans who had secured a spot online. Shot several hours earlier and beamed into the arena, the concert moved the audience even remotely as the giant pillars were emblazoned with the words "One Love" and "Freedom." "Happy birthday, Berlin!" frontman Bono crowed during a performance of "One," his voice both soaring and sage.

U2 returned to the big screen to close out the show, this time with Jay-Z freestyling over a performance of "Sunday Bloody Sunday." Jay-Z rapped in the lyrics from Bob Marley's "Get Up, Stand Up." The gates behind them lit up in the holiday colors of green and red, like an early present. Bono leaned in to hold to Jay-Z's hand as the duo raised them up triumphantly in the air.

Jay-Z and Alicia Keys couldn't contain their enthusiasm for New York to one song, so the pair have decided to team up again for a sequel to their hometown anthem. Keys will include "Empire State of Mind Part 2" on December's The Element of Freedom. The sequel will feature a new verse from Jay, a rep for Keys confirmed to MTV News.

The first version of the song was featured on Jay's Blueprint 3 album, and the duo performed the track at the Video Music Awards and before game two of the World Series.

Keys said she felt honored that Jay asked her to be on the track. "Obviously, I'm very grateful to him for reaching out to me and for that type of ability to represent my hometown, like, that was crazy," she told MTV News. "So we went to the studio. I went to the studio, and ... I fell in love from the jump."

The Hype Williams-directed video for "Empire State of Mind" debuted last week, and Keys described it as a masterpiece. "The way it's put together, it is so New York. You totally get it and understand it. It's artistic. It's hard. It's beautiful. It's, like, everything," she said. "And definitely getting to be in the middle of Times Square on my piano [with] Jay, representing our home city, is a triumph. It was unbelievable."

NEW YORK50 Cent got a chance to get up close and personal with the people, taking pictures with fans at Macy's in Herald Square on Thursday evening (November 5). His new cologne, Power by 50 Cent, is in stores now. Fif, dressed in a sports coat, addressed the crowd, telling them he always wanted to have his own fragrance.

"The fragrance Power was an idea I came up with," 50 said before the event started. "I wanted to offer confidence. I wanted to make something that smells like success. We went through a whole lot of different ideas. I created storyboards, things I felt was representation of power. It turned into the actual shape of the bottle, if you look at the top. The details on it might remind you of my favorite watches, Audemars Piguet or Hublot. I wanted it to be masculine, sexy, attractive. Prior to creating this actual fragrance, I had the opportunity to enjoy Creed; that was one of my favorite fragrances. That kinda inspired me."

Fif is coming out with a perfume for women soon, with Kim Kardashian as the spokeswoman. "I think she's amazing," he said with a smile. "She's done great things for herself and her brand. She's just someone who the public has taken an interest in. It's not gonna stop. It's kinda like what Paris Hilton has. [Kim] might not like that I make the comparison, but the two of them have an energy that it's difficult to describe where the interest is coming from, but it's amazing. And they're so far different from each other, it's interesting."

On Monday, the digital version of 50's Before I Self Destruct comes out, while the physical LP lands in stores November 16. Within the next week, the G-Unit General is shooting a video for his next single, "Do You Think About Me," while the clip for "Stretch" hits ThisIs50.com on Thursday night.
