Exclusive: Shia LaBeouf Reveals 'Transformers' Villain The Fallen

'He's a badass,' actor says of the previously top-secret bad guy. 'He has to be.'

BEVERLY HILLS, California — On Sunday, at the MTV Movie Awards, invited guests include Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox and director Michael Bay. But even those high-wattage talents might not be the most exciting "Transformers" star you'll see this weekend.

"He is the king bee," LaBeouf told us recently as he discussed the Fallen, unveiling him to "Transformers" fans for the first time anywhere. "He's the patriarchal figure, he's the main dude. He's what all of this came from."

Feast your eyes on the previously top-secret villain of "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," as the evil Transformer will be dominating screens everywhere when the film opens June 20. "Basically, the Fallen is to them what cavemen, Neanderthals were to us," LaBeouf revealed. "He's the ancestor, the first version of this exoskeleton. He's the first version of this sentient being. That's what he is. He's the origins of what they came from."

(Check out our "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" gallery for the exclusive Fallen picture and more shots from the movie!)

As you can see, the Fallen looks quite different than the other robots in disguise. "It's the design of the Transformer you see in the symbol, almost — at least, that's where the jump-off point of the idea was spawned from," LaBeouf said of the inspiration for Michael Bay and his team of robot designers. "That was the initial spark of his look, the actual Decepticon logo — which is cool."

Some fans might remember that Megatron was the top Decepticon in the first flick and that things didn't look too good for him at the end of the movie. Asked what the Fallen's relationship to Megatron is, the series star offered an intriguing explanation.

"It's the Emperor and Darth Vader — it's that kind of situation," LaBeouf said. "He's the main villain, so two and two makes four. He's a badass. He has to be.

"The Fallen, his transportation method is really unlike any other robot's transportation method," he added. "The way he fights is also very different. It's spectacular, visually stunning, really incredible."

The Fallen features prominently in a big fight at the end of the blockbuster film, and LaBeouf said the character's size and scope were a necessity after the first "Transformers" movie. "A big part of the reason the first one was successful was because nobody expected the CGI to look the way it looked like. Nobody expected our explosions to be as insane as it was, our action to be outrageous or our jokes to be funny," he explained of the pressure in shooting the sequel to 2007's biggest film. "Now that there's a high expectation — and everybody involved has an enormous sense of pride — those factors make successful films.

"I think this is a darker one," he said of "Revenge of the Fallen." "The dark moments are darker. ... There's more at stake. You've got more humans getting injured, and there's more death."

As for the Fallen himself, LaBeouf is eager to see the villain's finished scenes and get an idea of where he'll rank among such cinematic icons of evil as Darth Vader, Jason Voorhees, Megatron and the rest. "I can't judge him yet, because he's not completely done," he said of the finished effects work, which Bay is currently slaving away at. "I'll be as surprised as you guys will be. I'll be seeing it at the premiere."

Are you the type of person who likes to open your Christmas presents early? Do you always read the last page of a novel first?

For Twilighters, the time has finally come to get a first peek at "New Moon." Well, OK, it won't really come until Sunday night. But since "Twilight" fans have been so good — and this weekend is shaping up to be a memorable one for the Cullens — they're being rewarded with a quick peek at what's to come.

As everyone knows by now, MTV will premiere the first trailer from the "Twilight" sequel this weekend during the MTV Movie Awards, with Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart delivering the clip. First, however, we're going to show you a 15-second preview that gives us a peek into the continuing romance between Edward and Bella.

(Check out our shot-by-shot photo gallery from the "New Moon" trailer preview!)

"It's my birthday," says Bella (Best Actress nominee Kristen Stewart) as she pulls up in her iconic truck. "Can I ask for something?"

Considering her words carefully, Edward (Breakthrough Male Performance nominee Robert Pattinson) looks at his true love.

As the music swells, a close-up on KStew reveals her big line: "Kiss me."

To the delight of a million Twilighters, Edward Cullen obliges her with a deep smooch that could very well be nominated for next year's Best Kiss award. And then, Bella punctuates the point by taking their forbidden relationship to the next level.

"I love you," she says, closing out the clip.

Tune in Sunday night to see the rest of it, and get your first real glimpse at the "New Moon" trailer in all its glory. And don't forget to keep voting for "Twilight" in all the MTV Movie Awards categories, because we're expecting the results to be every bit as close as a shared moment between Edward and Bella.

Kanye West's 'Paranoid' Video Director Talks Leak, Casting Rihanna

'Who wouldn't want to look at Rihanna?' Nabil Elderkin asks of clip's guest star.

If anyone knows just how much Kanye West cares about his music videos, it's Nabil Elderkin. The photographer and director has been working on 'Ye's "Paranoid" video around the clock since a rough version of the clip leaked online recently.

"That wasn't even an old version," a sleep-deprived Elderkin told MTV News. "That wasn't even the video. It was just a bunch of footage, like a timeline type of thing to show the idea. That was pre-rough cut."

Elderkin said he just submitted the final version to West on Friday afternoon (May 29). The version that appeared online featured an opening with West, then guest star Rihanna appeared in a bedroom scene. Later, the singing beauty was posing onscreen with the camera centered on her, then she appeared in a car-chase type of scene. West, as one can imagine, was upset that an unfinished version leaked and took to his blog to clear things up.

"It hurts me to see the old and very wrong version of the 'Paranoid' video get leaked over the Net while I was on an 11-hour flight and couldn't do anything about it," he wrote in his characteristic all-caps style.

Elderkin has worked with West in the past, on the "Champions" video and "Welcome to Heartbreak." For this effort, the director said he initially wanted a "Clockwork Orange"-style aesthetic, but later he and 'Ye settled on an abstract, art-noir style.

"It's fantasy meets paranoid, when you get into that frame of mind and get trapped into your thoughts," Elderkin said of the video's premise. "It starts out subtle, but then it just builds. So I wanted to get that into the video, to build that into her dream sequence and get her into that paranoid state of mind."

Rihanna was cast as the lead in the video by West, Elderkin said. "That wasn't too much of a decision," he said of West's recommendation. "That was somewhere between 'hell yeah' and 'yeah.' Who wouldn't want to look at Rihanna?"

The final version of the video will be more of a narrative compared to the original idea Elderkin had. Once he began filming, some elements didn't allow for the sequencing and projections he had hoped for, so 'Ye recommended tweaks. Elderkin said West's behavior will be wolf-like in the final version, and Rihanna will be in more car scenes. West posted stills from the video on his Web site Thursday.

As of press time, it's unclear when the "Paranoid" video will debut.

Elderkin is also finishing up West's coffee-table book based on the Def Jam star's Glow in the Dark Tour last year.

'Twilight' Director Thinks Robert Pattinson Deserves Breakthrough Male Award

'I can't wait to see what he does next,' Catherine Hardwicke says of the Movie Award-nominated actor's future roles.

VENICE, California — Catherine Hardwicke celebrated the seven nominations of "Twilight" at Sunday's MTV Movie Awards by inviting us into the home where she auditioned her no-names-turned-superstars, and showing us the bedroom where Robert and Kristen shared the smooch that would eventually become a Best Kiss front-runner.

Next up, Catherine led us into the living room where she keeps a magazine rack. And, after spinning around the rack to reveal dozens of covers featuring her lead actor, she was eager to discuss Robert Pattinson's nomination for Breakthrough Male Performance.

"I remember when we first cast him. We put it on the Internet, and people were sending e-mails [saying], 'He's revolting! He's disgusting! He can't be Edward!' And of course, the fans, after we started putting out some photographs of him looking like Edward, they turned around," Hardwicke grinned. "Now he's pretty much on the cover of every magazine! It's pretty crazy."

Walk into any supermarket and you're bound to find a few RPattzes staring at you while you're in the checkout line. But while every year brings with it a few new Hollywood beefcakes, Hardwicke said she's most proud of Rob because his breakthrough might be building a career to be proud of for decades.

"I think he could do some really interesting roles, like Johnny Depp has chosen — such unique roles," she explained of the actor, who first auditioned (the biology scene) in her dining room, then went into the bedroom to try out that famous kiss. "He can transform himself into other characters, and I love that Rob will do things that we don't expect. He's going to do really unusual, unique things — and I'm looking forward to it."

What's even more remarkable is that, a mere 18 months ago, Twilighters were upset by Pattinson's casting. "People had posted their own opinions of who should be Robert online — pictures of male models that they'd put on the Internet and say, 'This has to be Edward!' and those guys probably couldn't act," Hardwicke remembered. "In fact, we looked at a lot of those guys — and they couldn't act."

Now Rob's amazing breakthrough has seen him go from "the guy in those 'Harry Potter' movies" to one of the most desired leading men in Hollywood. And along with the pleasures of his breakthrough has come a bit of pain — as best evidenced by Hardwicke's magazine collection that also includes such tabloid headlines as "Twilight in Trouble" and "Twilight Fight."

"Now everybody [knows about him], everybody is paying attention to every little thing Rob does," Hardwicke said of the new pressure on him as he's been working on the "New Moon" set. "At the time when we filmed the first movie we had a few fans [surrounding the set], like, 10 people would find us. Now it's like everywhere Rob goes it's a circus.

"People are dissecting everything," she sighed. "If he's looking [grumpy for a moment] it's like, 'Oh, Rob's upset!' It's a crazy time."

Although Hardwicke refuses to pick a favorite between RPattz and fellow Breakthrough Performance nominee Taylor Lautner, she told us that she'll be screaming louder than anyone if Rob walks onstage Sunday night to receive his trophy.

"Robert has that soul, that passion, that depth. He's a very interesting person in his heart and soul. The movies he watches are weird independent films and foreign films; the books he reads are these great, obscure things. He's a musician, an artist, and he's very special and unique," she explained, making his case as a true Hollywood breakthrough. "I can't wait to see what he does next."

Drake Working On A Video For 'Best I Ever Had'

'I want women to feel special when they watch the visual,' MC says of video ideas.
By Jayson Rodriguez

NEW YORK — Ladies love him, girls adore him. No, we're not talking about old-school rap legend Rob Base — we're talking about Heartbreak Drake. The Lil Wayne protégé has incredible buzz surrounding his breakout hit, "Best I Ever Had."

The song is from Drake's recent mixtape, So Far Gone, released in February of this year. The track is a favorite during his live shows, and it's also taken off on radio recently.

Drake told MTV News before his show at Manhattan's S.O.B.'s that he's in the process of putting together a video for the song.

"I been working with a couple people on some ideas," he explained. "I don't wanna say who yet, because everything isn't confirmed yet. It should be pretty solid in the next few days. The biggest thing about that song is that a lot of women come up to me and say, 'That's my song, because it really makes me feel special.' So I told the directors that were interested that I just want the visuals to coincide with that feeling. I want women to feel special when they watch the visual and say, 'I wish that was me,' or 'I know that feeling.' That's the goal with the video — to be genuine and not sappy. Be sexy and keep it together, but still make women smile."

The Toronto-based MC said he hopes to finish the clip by next month's BET Awards. In June, the currently unsigned artist will also begin working on his debut album. Drake is rumored to be working with Jay-Z, Kanye West and Lil Wayne, among others.

Check out Drake talking about his mentor Lil Wayne and becoming accepted as a peer in Mixtape Daily, coming up on Monday.

Phil Spector Sentenced To 19 Years To Life For Murder

Producer was found guilty in April of killing actress Lana Clarkson.

Famed "Wall of Sound" producer Phil Spectorwas sentenced to 19 years to life in prison on Friday (May 29) after being found guilty in April of second-degree murder in the shooting of actress Lana Clarkson.

Given his frail health and age, 69, the sentence was considered by many to be a life sentence for the once-prominent producer (Beatles, Ramones), whose sometimes-violent relationships with the women in his life have threatened to overshadow his pioneering musical accomplishments.

Spector's lawyer, Doron Weinberg, told The Associated Press on Friday that he plans to continue the appeals process. "He's doing fairly well," Weinberg said. "He's adjusting to the circumstances and settling down to wait out an appeal with high hopes. He feels he will win the appeal."

Superior Court Judge Larry Paul Fidler had little leeway in sentencing, according to the AP, as a 15-years-to-life sentence is mandated by law, and the only discretion available to him was whether to add three, four or 10 years to the sentence for personal use of a firearm. Spector must now spend at least 19 years in jail before being eligible for parole at age 88. If not granted parole, he will spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Though the jury deadlocked in the first trial in the case in 2007, using the same evidence, a jury convicted Spector in the retrial, which began last year. Spector did not testify at either trial.

Prosecutors contended that after meeting B-movie actress Clarkson, 40, at the House of Blues club in Los Angeles in 2003 — where she was working as a waitress — the producer took her home to his Alhambra, California "castle," where she was shot to death in the home's front foyer. Spector had claimed that Clarkson killed herself by putting the gun in her mouth, but his chauffeur said he witnessed Spector emerge from the home holding a gun and heard him say, "I think I killed somebody."

he testimonies that ultimately did Spector in were from five women who had relationships with the reclusive producer over the course of the past 30-plus years. They said he'd threatened them with guns when they tried to leave him in a manner very similar to what allegedly occurred the night of Clarkson's death. Weinberg said his appeal will hinge on his assertion that the judge should not have allowed the women to testify because they prejudiced the jury against Spector.

Spector has been in jail since his April 13 conviction. Clarkson's family has filed a wrongful-death civil suit against Spector that has not yet been heard. Before the sentencing, the Los Angeles Times reported that Clarkson's mother, Donna, told the judge that the murder had devastated her. "All our plans together are destroyed. Now I can only visit her in the cemetery," she said.

'American Idol' judge tells 'The View' that Lambert never hid his sexuality.

As if the pictures of Adam Lambert kissing other men and his not-so-veiled allusions about having nothing to hide weren't enough of a clue, it seems "American Idol" judge Kara DioGuardi has gone ahead and spilled the beans on the "Idol" runner-up's worst-kept "secret."

According to ABC News, while Lambert has been telling the world to "keep speculating" about his sexuality, in an interview that will air on Friday's "The View," DioGuardi seemed to say that no speculation is necessary.

Asked by host Barbara Walters if Lambert's "perceived sexuality" might have influenced voters, DioGuardi said, "Well, first of all, I hope not ... because we should be judging on talent and viability in the music industry, and [Lambert and Allen] both had that."

She then added the surprisingly frank comment, "I don't think that Adam was ever in [the closet]. I think he was always openly out."

Though Lambert has, in fact, never openly said whether he is gay and has deflected repeated questions from reporters about it by saying he knows who he is, Walters repeated the question to DioGuardi about whether she thought the 27-year-old musical theater vet was truly out.

"I think he was," DioGuardi said. "I mean from what I've seen ... I do. I never thought he wasn't."

Ben Stiller Left His Honeymoon For 2000 Movie Awards Skit With Tom Cruise

The pair's 'Tom Crooze' stuntman spoof almost didn't happen, in 'MTV Movie Awards Confidential.'

It was nearly a decade ago that Ben Stiller and Tom Cruise hooked up for one of the most memorable MTV Movie Awards short films of all time. In a new special airing airing Saturday at 8 p.m. ET, "Movie Awards Confidential," we take a look at some of the most memorable moments in the show's history — and one of those is the "Mission: Impossible II" stuntman film from 2000.

The short film stars Stiller as Tom Cruise's loyal and sometimes clueless stuntman, Tom Crooze. However, the funny clip almost didn't happen.

"I very much wanted Tom Cruise to be on the Movie Awards," Joel Gallen recalled. "But then he realized he had already committed to be at the ['Mission: Impossible II'] premiere in someplace in Korea, so there was no way he could be at our show that night."

Once they realized they could get Cruise for a short film to air that night, they knew they had to get Stiller onboard. But there was another problem — Stiller was on his honeymoon and wasn't around to shoot it during Cruise's minimal time frame. But Cruise wouldn't do it with anyone but him.

"I wrote Ben an e-mail: 'I know it's your honeymoon and everything but what if you came back two days early? What do you think?' " Gallen said. Stiller later agreed. "Then he goes, 'I really do want to do this film.' "

So Stiller and his wife Christine Taylor packed up and headed back to the States to make the short film happen. "We just left a day early," Stiller remembered. "We had to fly 15 hours to get there, which made it even better."

The best part came when Stiller finally got the chance to meet the man he had been parodying for so long. "I never had the experience of actually doing him to his face, and he was sitting at the monitor and he started cracking up watching and I knew it was OK," he said. "The part where we're both laughing is kinda real, because we're both laughing at the absurdity of the moment."

Will the vampires grab more trophies than the slumdog? What was the year's ultimate onscreen WTF moment? It's up to you to decide the winners of the 2009 MTV Movie Awards. Vote now, and tune in on May 31 at 9 p.m. ET, when the big show airs live from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California.

Lady Gaga Angry That Epic 'Paparazzi' Video Leaked

Eight-minute clip features photogs, fashion and murder.
By Gil Kaufman

First Kanye, now Gaga. The video-leak bug has apparently hit dance princess Lady Gaga, this time infecting the new clip for her latest single, "Paparazzi."

The nearly eight-minute mini-movie, featuring a murderous plotline that revolves around a doomed starlet who's hounded by photogs, oozed out online Thursday, seemingly before the fashion-forward diva was ready for it to debut.

How do we know Gaga didn't intend for the clip to get out yet? One clue is that she Tweeted, "Stop leaking my mother----ing videos," on Thursday while in Australia. The clip for the singer's new single was reportedly set to premiere on U.K. station Channel 4 on June 4.

Regardless, the video was hailed as an instant "masterpiece" by gushing fan Perez Hilton, who posted a link to the video on his site.

The 1940s romantic-epic-style video, directed by controversial video auteur Jonas Äkerlund (Madonna, Prodigy), proves once and for all that Gaga is a true original with a unique vision. It opens with the camera focusing on what appears to be an elegant seaside estate surrounded by roses and Greek statues. Seagulls cry in the background amid tinkling piano notes.

And then things get really weird.

Cut to Gaga in bed with Swedish actor Alexander Skarsgård, best known in this country for playing Meekus in Ben Stiller's 2001 classic "Zoolander" and creepy vampire Eric Northman on HBO's "True Blood." Rolling around in bed, whispering sweet nothings in Swedish, surrounded by $100 bills with her face on them, Gaga makes out with Skarsgård for a bit, before he carries her out to the balcony for more action.

She quickly realizes he's set her up to be photographed by hidden paparazzi, and smashes his face with a champagne bottle. As she struggles to get away, he tosses her over the balcony, leaving her in a crumpled heap on the ground below as the paps snap pictures of her bloody body.

The next time we see her, she's being carried around by male dancers, wearing a bejeweled neck brace and tooling around in a tricked-out wheelchair. As the dancers gyrate around her, the singer strips off her black body suit and hobbles down a carpet on a pair of crutches wearing a metallic bustier and matching helmet. All the while, images of dead models flash on the screen, including one whose face is wrapped in plastic, one who appears to be hanging from a noose and another who is oozing gold-colored blood from her mouth.

When Gaga hits the line "Loving you is cherry pie," she is seen eagerly making out with a trio of hair metal rockers — seemingly a reference to Warrant's classic anthem "Cherry Pie." The entire clip is, of course, filled with Gaga's signature outrageous fashions, including one getup that's comprised of a series of filmstrips covering her naughty bits and a towering feathered Mohawk headdress.

Gaga gets her revenge in the end, poisoning her eye-patch-wearing boyfriend with a white powder concealed in a ring and regaining her fame after her arrest for the apparent murder. Wearing a tall, blond, corkscrew wig and barely-there black bustier, Gaga is arrested and hounded by the paps once again as the papers scream, "She's Back!!!" The clip ends with Gaga posing for mug shots like a fashion model while wearing a metallic dress.
