Reese Witherspoon is certainly no stranger to dealing with the mass hysteria that Robert Pattinson — with his devoted "Twilight" fanbase — brings with him. While filming "Water for Elephants" in Tennessee last year, the Oscar-winning actress recalled to MTV News, "The women lining up outside the set — it was just unbelievable — till 5 o'clock in the morning waiting to just glimpse him."

So it must have felt a bit like déjà vu for Witherspoon at Sunday (April 17) night's world premiere of "Water for Elephants" in New York. Witherspoon and her sought-after co-star (as well as fellow castmembers like Christoph Waltz and Hal Holbrook and director Francis Lawrence) arrived at the famous Ziegfeld Theatre in Manhattan to throngs of eager, screaming RPattz fans. Before hitting the red carpet, both stars crossed the street to greet fans who had braved a major storm over the weekend just to get a peek at them.

After Witherspoon — who arrived without husband Jim Toth — met with fans, she and Pattinson stopped by for a quick chat with MTV News on the red carpet. "I was just signing autographs," said the actress, who wore an elegant white dress to the event.

Rather than begrudge the Pattinson faithful (whom Witherspoon has compared to Leonardo DiCaprio's fans during his "Titanic" heyday), the 35-year-old actress was impressed by those who have been showing their support for "Water for Elephants." "[It's] incredible. Their dedication to the movie, the book," she said, adding, "[and] Rob!"

Witherspoon, who joked that the excited fans "like me OK," realized that Pattinson was, by far, the main attraction at the "Water for Elephants" premiere. "I'm like a consolation prize," Witherspoon kidded about the fans — who, according to Pattinson, were "very nice" — that met her on the red carpet.

Witherspoon has the luxury of not doing as many premieres and public events as her handsome co-star. "I do it once a year," the actress estimated, but added that "it's nice" to interact with fans face-to-face because filming is "so isolated."

"Water for Elephants" opens in theaters on Friday, April 22.

Taylor Lautner Is 'Close' With 'Breaking Dawn' Love Mackenzie Foy

'She's the cutest little girl, and she's so smart,' he tells MTV News of 10-year-old actress playing Renesmee.

Taylor Lautner is still pining away for Bella in "Breaking Dawn," but she's already made her decision to marry Edward instead of pursuing a life with Jacob.

But don't feel too bad for the werewolf. (Spoiler alert for those unfamiliar with the books!) He finds a new love in his own unique way when he imprints himself on Bella and Edward's infant vampire daughter, Renesmee. Lautner told MTV News during "MTV First: Taylor Lautner" last week that he and pre-teen Mackenzie Foy, who plays Renesmee in "Part 2," have become fast friends, despite the awkward circumstances.

"She's so awesome," he said of the 10-year-old. "She's the cutest little girl, and she's so smart, so on it and so talented. She's great. ... We're close."

The story not only touches on that romance, but also, finally, shows Bella and Edward on their romantic honeymoon (sexy photos of which were leaked earlier this month, much to the dismay of "Twilight" studio Summit Entertainment and Robert Pattinson). Lautner said he had some interesting inspiration when he was playing Jacob thinking about his former flame and rival married.

"It's like the story's always told from Bella, but when they're at the honeymoon, you'll be able to see me thinking about what they're doing on the honeymoon," he said. "Very awkward," he jokingly added.

"When we were filming that scene, I'm like, 'So, [director] Bill Condon, what am I thinking right now?' " he recalled of having on-set discussions about Jacob's story. "He's like, 'Just imagine what's going on in Brazil right now.' "

New West Artist Casey Veggies Is 'Dreaming Big'

We profile Sleeping in Class MC for New West Week.

Main Pick
Rap Scholar: Casey Veggies

Representing: Inglewood, California

Mixtape: Sleeping in Class

Real Spit: Casey Veggies is an MC who's looking to make sure you don't snooze on him or his talented peers, and MTV News is spotlighting the artist to start off New West Week.

After catching the rhyme bug and getting positive feedback from some tracks he posted on MySpace, Casey released the Customized Greatly, Vol. 1 mixtape in 2007. Steadily improving with each new song, Odd Future knew what was up early, with Tyler the Creator throwing a couple of beats on Casey's sophomore mixtape, Customized Greatly, Vol. 2 back in 2009. Last year, he dropped Sleeping in Class, an offering that further reveals the Inglewood, California native to be from the school of fresh beats and rhymes.

"I didn't really want Sleeping in Class ... for people to think, 'Oh he's sleeping in class.' That's ignorant," Casey told Mixtape Daily. "Really, it was like a sub-meaning and it meant that I was sleeping on everything that everyone else was telling me was the truth and what was right to do. That's class, that's the teacher talking to you. I was sleeping on that and I chose my own route. I chose to do what I wanted to do. So that means I'm sleeping, I'm dreaming big and I'm doing my thing."

We weren't kidding about Casey being a student of the game, literally. While making a name for himself as an artist to watch from the West side of the map, the Inglewood High School senior made the honor roll with a 3.5 GPA. Commend the man.

Joints to Check For
» "Ridin' Roun' Town" - "The first song is 'Ridin' Roun' Town.' It was influenced by Los Angeles," Casey said. "I just heard the beat, the violins was real live, I just thought about the city and I just thought of everything that has to do with the city, like what goes on. Everything that I was speaking on in the song was real-life situations that I went through while living out here. The girls, trying to grind, stay focused; everything that really this city has to do with, I touched on it in my own way."

» "Euphoria II" - "That was a song that was on Customized Greatly, Vol. 2, and I just wanted to make sure that I captured the feeling from the first one just to really give it that part-two feel," Casey said. "It's called 'Euphoria II' and that indicates a natural high — I felt high off life. The music and what I'm saying, it's real stuff that's close to my heart, close to my life, and it's just real straight to the point, natural high."

Stick with us all week as MTV News turns the spotlight on the New West, the next wave of hip-hop acts helping to restore faith in the L.A. rap scene. From groups like Odd Future to rising MCs like Dom Kennedy, we'll bring you up close and personal to these artists as they carve their own lanes in the post-gangsta rap era. Keep it locked here for more on the West Coast up-and-comers!

'Lemonade Mouth' Stars Talk Possible Tour Plans

Posted: 18 Apr 2011 03:52 AM PDT

'It's up to the people,' Disney co-star Blake Michael tells MTV News about the fictional TV band.
By Jocelyn Vena

The cast of "Lemonade Mouth"

The Disney Channel's latest movie, "Lemonade Mouth" debuted over the weekend. The feel-good flick about a ragtag group of teens who form a band named Lemonade Mouth is based on the book by Mark Peter Hughes, and last week we caught up with the gang who told us they'd be down to hit the road for a tour — if the fans want it.

"We have no idea," co-star Naomi Scott explained to MTV News about potential plans to take the TV band out on the road. Her co-star Blake Michael added, "It's up to the people."

The group has already performed on "Good Morning America," hitting the stage last week. And Hayley Kiyoko said if they were tapped to hit the road to perform tracks from the movie, they'd certainly have the skills to pay the bills.

"I think we all love performing and we're all very musically inclined and if we get a tour, that'd be awesome," she said. "We're just enjoying what's going on right now and performing and we're gonna keep doing it whether or not there's a tour or not."

Disney has a pretty impressive track record when it comes to launching the next big thing (Zac Efron, Miley Cyrus, the Jonas Brothers, to name a few), but regardless of what happens next with Lemonade Mouth, Scott said that they're just living in the moment.

"I don't think that we are trying to be anything; we're just who we are," Scott said. "We are who we are, like we're just ourselves and wherever that takes us; it's not sort of a planned route. We'll see."

Robert Pattinson Describes Wrapping 'Breaking Dawn' At 'Water For Elephants' Premiere

'It was a mad rush to get here,' actor tells MTV News.

The stage was set on Sunday (April 17) on a beautiful spring evening in New York for the world premiere of "Water for Elephants." The stars of director Francis Lawrence's highly anticipated period drama, adapted from Sara Gruen's best-selling book of the same name, arrived at the famed Ziegfeld Theatre to debut their film and greet hundreds of excited fans.

Early to arrive at the premiere of "Water for Elephants" — which streamed live on MTV.com — were castmembers such as Christoph Waltz and Hal Holbrook. Of course, no one was a bigger draw than the film's leading man, Robert Pattinson. Though, truth be told, many on the red carpet were hoping to get a glimpse of his larger-than-life co-star, Tai the elephant.

No stranger to the mass hysteria he brings everywhere, Pattinson, looking dapper in a suit and tie, signed autographs and posed for pictures with the fans lined up across the even-busier-than-usual Manhattan street, many of whom had waited outside in rainy weather the day before.

After RPattz spent ample time with frenzied fans, he — alongside leading lady (and newlywed) Reese Witherspoon — found a moment to chat with MTV News on the red carpet. When asked if this premiere felt different from the "Twilight" series premieres, the actor said with a laugh, "Well, not that different."

But despite their enthusiasm for the 24-year-old star, it seems the "Water for Elephants" groupies have been much more subdued than the Twi-hards throughout the whole process. While many fans waited near the set throughout filming, hoping to catch a glimpse of him, Pattinson told us, "They weren't very scream-y," adding, "They were very nice fans."

The cries of the very vocal "Twilight" fans will no doubt be heard now that the franchise has completed wrapping. The actor — who also told us that glitzy red-carpet premieres like these can feel like work but still be "kinda fun" — revealed he was whisked away from the last day of filming "Breaking Dawn, Part 2" to make it to New York for his new film's big night.

Pattinson, who said he left the "Breaking Dawn" set in Vancouver around 1 a.m. on Sunday, told MTV, "It was a mad rush to get here." It was so tight, in fact, that the superstar was still filming some of his very last scenes as Edward Cullen. Pattinson said that while he was being taken away to go to NYC, the "Breaking Dawn" crew was pleading, " 'Come on, we need, like, one more shot!' "

Still, despite wrapping up "Breaking Dawn" and premiering "Water for Elephants" within just a matter of hours, Pattinson called the whole whirlwind experience "very exciting."

"Water for Elephants" arrives in theaters on Friday, April 22.

Arcade Fire Shine On Coachella Festival's Day Two

Animal Collective surprise and the dance music hits hard on Saturday.

INDIO, California — Eschewing the big light shows of the weekend's earlier main-stage acts, Arcade Fire stripped down for Saturday night's Coachella crowd to let their sunny sing-alongs shine through.

They bookended their set with cuts from their Grammy-winning The Suburbs, starting with "Month of May" and closing out with "Sprawl II."

Through it all, the crowd kept bopping, belting out "Rebellion (Lies)," and both "Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)" and "Neighborhood 3 (Power Out)."

The recent surprise Album of the Year winners expressed their gratitude several times, admitting, "It's pretty intimidating to be up here in front of all you people," and later professing, "We don't take this for granted, even for a second."

Check out photos from the Coachella Festival.

This year, its 12th, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is presenting more than 100 bands over three days on the Empire Polo Club fields.

Anyone who let Animal Collective's reputation as a less-than-stellar live act convince them to stay away missed a wonderfully frantic set backed by stunning videography. The Baltimore experimentalists amply surpassed their duties and proved that, yes, they could bring it to the main stage. Their audience was thin, as positive word of mouth sent the masses to watch Empire of the Sun on the Outdoor stage. But the Empire experience is all about their theatrical stage show, which only the closest quarter or so of the crowd got to see.

Erykah Badu's late-afternoon set had her soul sisters and fan boys enthralled. After beginning with "20 Feet Tall," she told them "Didn't Cha Know" is her favorite song to sing and "If it starts feeling too good, don't hesitate to scream."

Those missing this year's lack of hard-rock acts had the chance to bang their heads to Rage Against the Machine spitter Zach De La Rocha and former Mars Volta drummer Jon Theodore's surprisingly standard One Day as a Lion.

Elsewhere, Swell Season soothed tired eardrums, and mad scientist Daedelus captivated. The Scissor Sisters gave a shout-out to earlier Mojave tent act Elbow, saying, "They don't get the recognition they deserve, here in this country — just like the Scissor Sisters!"

While Steve Angello brought house music to the masses in the Sahara tent, Andy C. and GQ reminded an intimate group of drum and bass fans in the Oasis dome of the late-'90s height of their rave days. Earlier, Laidback Luke had the Sahara pounding with an eclectic sunset performance that masterfully blended dance staples like "Better Off Alone" and new classic "When Love Takes Over" with Coldplay's "Clocks" — somehow managing to make detours into dubstep and Cypress Hill's "Insane in the Brain" blend seamlessly.

Coachella kicked off Friday with Kings of Leon, Interpol and the Chemical Brothers.

On tap for Sunday (April 17): Wiz Khalifa, the Strokes, Duck Sauce and Kanye West.

Taylor Kitsch Teases 'John Carter Of Mars' Trailer

Although the release date for the highly anticipated "John Carter of Mars" is still a ways away (March 9, 2012, to be exact), we might be close to seeing an official trailer very soon.

When MTV News caught up with star Taylor Kitsch yesterday during the press day for his upcoming drama "The Bang Bang Club," we were pleasantly surprised to learn he had just seen the trailer.

"We're doing some fun little pickups right now," Kitsch said. "I saw the official trailer hours ago. [I'm] over the moon," he revealed. "We are just ... it's a special film. It's going to be a good ride. I'm pumped!"

Although he couldn't go into specifics, Kitsch teased that when fans do see the trailer, they might have a hard time figuring out exactly what they're seeing.

"Man, I would love to get going and tell you everything about it," he said. "All I'll say is, good luck piecing it together. You're going to be like, 'How the f--- does this all fit together?' "

"And there's a lot of heart in it too, to say the least," he added. "Yeah, I'm excited about it."

The "Friday Night Lights" actor's comments about the unique look of the film mirrored those of director Andrew Stanton, who told us that his take on the story, which is based on a series of Edgar Rice Burroughs novels about a Civil War veteran who becomes a great hero on Mars, will not look like anything we've seen before.

"I didn't try to make it look like anything else," the Oscar winner told us back in January. "I really tried to make it its own thing. I tried to make a very historically accurate Martian film, if that makes sense," he said. "So I'll let you decipher that."
