With production on the two-part "Breaking Dawn" about to finish, the impending "Twilight" finale was an unavoidable topic during our exclusive sit-down with superstar heartthrob Taylor Lautner, a.k.a. werewolf Jacob Black.

Wednesday's 30-minute interview for "MTV First: Taylor Lautner" was pegged to Lautner's highly anticipated first non-"Twilight" leading role in "Abduction," but of course we had to bring up the fourth and fifth films in "The Twilight Saga" — specifically Lautner's feelings about finishing up filming the epic and hugely popular franchise.

"We have a couple more days and it's over — it's a crazy thought," Lautner said. "I think it's mixed emotions, for sure," he added, regarding his feelings on nearing the end of filming. "Half of me says, 'This will be a relief. I get some time off, I get to spend some time with family and friends and do other things,' but the other half says, 'This is going to be so weird.' I've been filming with these people for years, so it will definitely be a bummer. It will be sad on the last day," he admitted.

When asked whether he thinks he and his fellow castmates will shed any tears when production officially wraps, Lautner admitted, "I think there will. Nobody will admit it right now, but I guarantee you there will be tears."

Will Lautner be joining in on the waterworks or holding them back?

"I'll try and hold back," he laughed.

Adele Says Beyonce Helped Her Overcome Anxiety

British songstress talks stage fright and body image in Rolling Stone cover story.

While she was besting Britney Spears on the American album charts and helping to lead a new British invasion, U.K. soul pop diva Adele also landed the cover of the upcoming issue of Rolling Stone magazine.

And though the cover marks yet another milestone of her rising fame, Adele isn't immune to some of the same fears as the rest of us, say, stage fright. Despite her calm assurance in the studio and apparent ease at coping with her sudden success, the Grammy winner told the magazine that she still has nervous nights.

"I'm scared of audiences," she said. "One show in Amsterdam I was so nervous, I escaped out the fire exit. I've thrown up a couple of times. Once in Brussels, I projectile vomited on someone. I just gotta bear it. But I don't like touring. I have anxiety attacks a lot."

And it's not just audiences that freak her out, it's other celebrities. But the singer revealed that she has drawn some strength from an unlikely source: Beyoncé. "I was about to meet Beyoncé and I had a full-blown anxiety attack," Adele said. "Then she popped in looking gorgeous, and said, 'You're amazing! When I listen to you I feel like I'm listening to God.' "

When she later found herself on a balcony, crying hysterically, Adele asked herself, " 'What would [Beyoncé's alter ego] Sasha Fierce do?' That's when Sasha Carter was born." The composite of Sasha Fierce and late country icon June Carter is pulled out whenever Adele needs to give herself a shot of confidence.

The 22-year-old also said that in a world of size 0-2 pop divas, she has no problem being a bit more voluptuous than her peers. "My life is full of drama, and I won't have time to worry about something as petty as what I look like," she said. "I don't like going to the gym. I like eating fine foods and drinking nice wine."

That said, Adele noted that while she's not likely to do any nude photo shoots anytime soon, she can totally appreciate the sight of her fellow female pop stars' naughty bits.

"Even if I had a really good figure, I don't think I'd get my t--- and a-- out for no one," she said. "I love seeing Lady Gaga's boobs and bum. I love seeing Katy Perry's boobs and bum. Love it. But that's not what my music is about. I don't make music for eyes. I make music for ears."

Taylor Lautner Debuts 'Abduction' Trailer

'It's crazy for me to actually watch the trailer, because I've been envisioning this movie put together for so long,' Lautner tells MTV News.

We're not exaggerating when we say you've never seenTaylor Lautner like this — leading man, action hero, devoid of any supernatural powers. We say that because, until now, the trailer for the 19-year-old actor's upcoming thriller "Abduction" has been under wraps. But as part of "MTV First: Taylor Lautner," we're exclusively debuting the first-ever look at footage from the movie, which hits theaters September 23.

"It's crazy for me to actually watch the trailer, because I've been envisioning this movie put together for so long — ever since I read the script," Lautner told us at the start of a 30-minute chat. "Just to see it all together now is really exciting."

Lautner plays a teen named Nathan, who's always felt something wasn't quite right. As he puts it in the trailer, "Sometimes I feel different. I walk around like everybody else, but inside I just feel like I'm a stranger in my own life." He's right. After stumbling upon his baby picture on a missing-persons website and reaching out to his birth parents, Nathan finds himself caught up in a world of underground spies and death-defying stunts.

Those stunts are very much on display in the new trailer. He rides a motorcycle through the woods, gets into a fight on a moving train, scales scaffolding and slides down glass roofing. Oh, and he makes time for a steamy kiss with co-star Lily Collins. All the while, Nathan's on the run from a CIA agent (Alfred Molina) who intends to apprehend him.

"It's a great story, it's a great character, there are a lot of great characters, there's a lot of action, it's fun," Lautner said. "Also, I knew it was going to be challenging, so I was looking forward to that."

'American Idol' Recap: Lauren Alaina, James Durbin Shine On Movie Night

Casey Abrams delivers a jazzy Nat King Cole tune, while Stefano Langone hopes it isn't the end of the road for him on 'Idol.'
By Eric Ditzian

She's gone but not forgotten. The ghost of Pia Toscano was everywhere on Wednesday's (April 13) "American Idol," from an opening montage reminding viewers that "every vote counts," to a poster in the audience that read "I miss Pia" to the mentors' many invocations of the eliminated finalist's name.

But Pia, alas, is gone and the show, as they say in Hollywood, must go on — in this case to Tinseltown itself. The theme was songs of the cinema, and like last week, we got a show with no bombs and a few blockbusters.

Paul McDonald kicked things off with Bob Seger's "Old Time Rock and Roll" from "Risky Business." Unlike Tom Cruise in that classic '80s flick, however, Paul didn't perform the song in his underwear, a tactic that would likely have assured the guy a spot in the finals. Nonetheless, he kicked the show off in style, a high-energy performance in which he ditched his guitar and sashayed around the stage but didn't succumb to the silly dance moves we've seen from him in the past.

The judges loved his rose-embroidered suit, loved his sax player, but more than anything else, they loved his energy. "I love your crazy, wild abandon," said Steven Tyler, while Randy argued America had just witnessed the opening number at a forthcoming McDonald concert.

Next up was Lauren Alaina, whom mentor Jimmy Iovine dubbed not only a better singer than Miley Cyrus but one capable of burying the Disney starlet's own rendition of "The Climb." What's more, Jimmy delivered a message to all of the viewers at home: Lauren's the contestant who deserves to gobble up Pia's voting bloc. Her ballad would certainly appeal to fans of the departed singer, though Lauren's tune was hardly as pitch-perfect as previous Pia songs. What Lauren delivered was a performance that was, in terms of emotion and comfort level on the stage, far superior to anything Pia had delivered.

"I love the tear you have in your voice. It's a cry. It's something that really transmits," Jennifer Lopez said. "You sang it so beautifully, so beautifully. You don't need to steal anybody's votes. You're getting your own."

It remains to be seen just how many votes of his own Stefano Langone will be getting. But during his cover of Boyz II Men's "End of the Road," he made a serious bid to attract enough support to stay safe for another week. He started off weakly, his vocals seemingly not up to the task of nailing the song's high notes. Yet as the music built, Stefano stepped up, letting loose vocally and showing more artistry than we've perhaps ever seen from him.

Predicting what Boyz II Men would soon tell him, Jackson said, "Your man Stefano just slayed the song." The other judges agreed. "This is so not the end of the road for you," Tyler said. "This is the beginning."

The same could be said of Scotty McCreery, who can do no wrong in the judges' eyes nor, it appears, in those of the public. The 17-year-old suggested he was going back to his country roots with George Strait's "I Cross My Heart," as if he'd ever strayed far from them. Call it returning to his strengths or continuing to exploit them — whatever the case, Scotty once again busted out a mature performance that could become a hit on country radio tomorrow. He even took a few more vocal risks than usual, including a sustained note at the finale that was easily three times longer than any other he'd belted out all season.

"Everybody wants us to be tough with you guys, but the truth is y'all are so damn good," Lopez said. "All I really want to say is wow. That was really good." Jackson seconded that assessment, and raised her one. "Look at this guy right here," he said. "A star is born on this stage."

Casey Abrams, rocking an ascot and a severely trimmed beard, followed Scotty onto the stage. He was unsure if he should sing Phil Collins or Nat King Cole, but ultimately went with a slow and jazzy take on Cole's "Nature Boy" that allowed him to whisper and growl and scat and, of course, slap some on the bass.

The judges certainly thought Casey made the right choice. They praised his artistry and the educational value of his music, comparing him to Norah Jones, Michael Bublé and Sting. "There's a place for this and there's a place for you. I thought it was genius," Jackson said, adding that "the world cannot live by pop stars alone. We need art to have that balance."

Haley Reinhart entered the evening riding a serious hot streak, and she delivered an arrow-straight rock performance with Blondie's "Call Me." Gone were the musical spaces in which she could show off those soulful growls. Here again, however, was a confident stage presence rivaled only by that of McDonald.

It wasn't enough to impress the judges, however. Jackson uttered the dreaded "karaoke" criticism, suggesting the song "wasn't a showcase" for Haley's vocals. Lopez backed up that sentiment, though she hesitated to ding her too much, lest the show lose another female. But ding her, eventually she did. "It wasn't the best. After two killer performances, baby, you got to just keep taking it higher and higher," Lopez admitted. "Let's keep it at that level."

Jacob Lusk, meanwhile, wisely decided to drop the level of hubris he displayed last week by, as Iovine put it, preaching to America about his own greatness. He dropped, as well, an instinct to deliver a corny performance and instead gave us a restrained take on Simon & Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water." Jacob started off shaky and unsure but finished in a big way.

Or as Randy put it: "Perfect, perfect, perfect harmony." "What happens to me when you sing is I believe you," he explained. "I listen to every word. A great singer takes every word and it comes out so special." Lopez concurred. "Those last three notes and how you fit in with the choir is incredible," she said. "So god bless you and god bless your voice."

James Durbin then stepped up to finish the show. "Give metal a chance," he pleaded, after Iovine pretty much begged the kid to choose anything but Sammy Hagar's "Heavy Metal." What we learned during the performance is that Zakk Wylde (Ozzy Osbourne's guitarist) can wail on his instrument. What we didn't get a chance to review is Durbin's singing voice this week. To an even greater extent than Haley's song, "Heavy Metal" didn't give James much of an opportunity to show off vocal gifts beyond that familiar scream.

Not that the judges seemed to mind. "Outstanding, Durbin. You just had to get that out, didn't you?" Tyler told him. "I'm glad you went with your feelings." Jackson was equally pleased. "My god, you guys were just at a James Durbin concert," he said. "This is unbelievable, man. I'm glad you stuck to your guns. We always say to all of you kids, 'Do you.' Tonight you did you. Hopefully America will bring metal back."

Waka Flocka Flame Says Legal Issues Make Him A 'Stronger Man'

Waka Flocka Flame hit MTV News' "RapFix Live" on Wednesday and sat down for a candid interview with Sway Calloway that covered a range of topics, including his breakthrough success and troubles with the law.

The ATL trap star is still pushing his debut album, Flockaveli, premiered his new video for "Grove St. Party" on MTV Jams and just released a new mixtape called Benjamin Flocka. Hits like "Hard in Da Paint" and "No Hands" helped Waka gain mainstream recognition beyond the Southern states, but he said staying true to himself is the secret to his and labelmate Gucci Mane's success.

"Honestly, we stayed ourself," Waka told MTV News. "We wasn't scared to let people know our personality. Answered the questions with a real answer. We always say, 'Hey, bruh, just keep it official.' Our whole thing was to be 100 about the situation."

Despite their inroads in the music industry, legal issues have shadowed Waka Flocka and some of the company he keeps. Last December, Waka had his home raided by authorities before turning himself in the next month. Members of his entourage were involved in a shooting that involved his tour bus in February in North Carolina. Most recently, Gucci Mane was arrested for allegedly pushing a woman out of his SUV while it was still in motion.

Although some people think rappers are under extra scrutiny, Waka isn't subscribing to that school of thought when it comes to his entanglements.

"That's just another standpoint of view," Waka said. "I don't think we're being targeted. I think God do a lot of stuff to let you know. ... It always stop you in your tracks. That's just situations God put you through so you be a stronger man, 'cause it didn't kill us, it just made us stronger. It's just to let you know like, 'Boy, you doing good, why would you go over here and ... ,' you know what I'm saying?"

Waka admitted that it was his own actions that put him in some of his well-documented predicaments. "A lot of situations I probably put myself into," he said. "So you just learn from your mistakes."

New West Week Kicks Off With Odd Future, Casey Veggies, More

Posted: 13 Apr 2011 05:56 AM PDT

We take you inside the re-emerging L.A. hip-hop scene, including exclusive interviews with Dom Kennedy, Nipsey Hussle, Tyga and more.
By Steven Roberts

In recent years, Los Angeles hip-hop has lost its place at the top of the rap game. Dr. Dre's once ubiquitous G-Funk sound has largely disappeared thanks in part to the emergence of other super-producers, the growing dominance of southern hip-hop and the good doctor's own absence from the scene. As a result (with the exception of the likes of Game and Snoop Dogg), the region has been mostly dormant on a national scale — until now.

In recent years, a new wave of hip-hop acts has emerged, awakening a newfound interest in L.A. hip-hop culture. These artists have each individually carved their own lane without the help of their rap forefathers, creating a sound in contrast to the G-Funk/ gangsta rap sensibility. Beginning Monday, April 18, MTV News will be highlighting some of the best of L.A.'s talented and diverse acts with our weeklong coverage of the New West.

The week kicks off with a mixtape double-feature highlighting Nipsey Hussle's The Marathon and Casey Veggies' Sleeping in Class. The up-and-coming Casey Veggies has made a lot of noise in the last few months — all while trying to graduate high school. Our second piece is on rising star Nipsey Hussle, who many fans once hoped would singlehandedly bring back the West. Nips' momentum has slowed a bit in recent months, but the MC won't be deterred. Nipsey has since embarked on his own marathon, planning to take his career to the next level.

One crew that has been pegged as "the next big thing" is the much-hyped Odd Future. OF have made waves in recent months, though, the question remains whether the 10-man collective can take the next step to the mainstream. Then there's the four-man group known as Black Hippy, made up of Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock, Ab-Soul and School Boy Q. The foursome have made quite a bit of noise on the underground and it they seem to have already caught the attention of some important people in the industry.

But it's not just the MCs that have been making noise in L.A.; the city's party and dance scene has also been the focus of hip-hop fans and spawned nationwide trends. The Jerk, the Dougie and Cat Daddy (all dances, of course) have not only brought about new crazes, but they've helped to shed light on how L.A. youth are reviving the culture.

Finally, can Dom Kennedy, Pac Div and Young Money MC Tyga overcome their underdog status and make their mark outside of L.A.? Each act has been grinding for years, but can they defy the naysayers and prove they're the cream of the crop?

Before the New West Week kicks off, MTV News will be gearing up by talking to a few heavy hitters about the scene. The Doggfather Snoop Dogg talks to us about how the New West MCs have made a name for themselves without a co-sign from the old guard and also shares a little bit about his new artist, Pilot. And Renaissance man Chris Brown opens up to us on Friday about how he got inspiration from L.A.'s party and dance scene while rejuvenating his career.

All week, we'll be bringing you interviews with these artists to watch, breaking it down into four categories: the Black Hippy, the Future, Up and Coming, the Party and the Underdog. Each day, MTV News' Sway and our hip-hop beat team will focus on a theme and recap the following day.

Starting Monday, stick with us all week as MTV News turns the spotlight on the New West, the next wave of hip-hop acts helping to restore faith in the L.A. rap scene. From groups like Odd Future to rising MCs like Dom Kennedy, we'll bring you up close and personal to these artists as they carve their own lanes in the post-gangsta rap era. Keep it locked here for the next week for more on the West Coast up-and-comers!-

The Taylor Lautner interview goods keep on coming! Thanks to our exclusive 30-minute sit-down with Lautner during Wednesday's (April 13) "MTV First: Taylor Lautner," we were able to chat with the "Twilight" heartthrob about a wide variety of hard-hitting subjects. Most important, we got the scoop on — and a sneak peek at the trailer of — his upcoming action thriller "Abduction," co-starring Lily Collins.

Also, thanks to a few very fun questions sent in via Twitter by the most devoted Lautner and MTV fans, we learned that the 19-year-old isn't at all opposed to dating a fan, and that he's a big admirer of Britney Spears.

The Twitter question read: "Would you date a fan?" and Lautner's response likely pleased a lot of people.

"That is a loaded question," he said. "I mean, nobody is excluded in my book," he added with a smile.

Next up, another tweet: "If you guest-starred on 'Glee,' which song would you sing?"

"I'm sure none of my fans would want to hear me sing a song," Lautner responded self-deprecatingly. "But if I had to choose, it would either be 'Oops! ... I Did It Again,' " he revealed. "I don't know why I would just randomly break into that song."

MTV News' Josh Horowitz then mentioned that Britney's having something of a comeback, what with the release of her new Femme Fatale album and all of the buzz about her new music videos, etc., which makes that song choice totally appropriate.

"Yeah, for sure," Lautner agreed. "I love her new album. Yeah, it's cool," he said, adding that he is a fan. "I haven't seen the videos, I have to see the videos, but the songs are great."

Third time's a charm! Back in March, MTV News sat down for a 30-minute live chat with Robert Pattinson after the star introduced an exclusive "Water for Elephants" clip. Then we met up with the 24-year-old star again at the "WFE" press day for another extended conversation about everything from "Breaking Dawn" to his favorite TV shows. Now, for the third time in less than a month, we'll once again be talking to Pattinson — and we'll be bringing the interview to you live on MTV.com.

At this Sunday's "Water for Elephants" red-carpet premiere at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York City on Sunday, at 5 p.m. ET, host Josh Horowitz will not only be chatting with Pattinson but with Reese Witherspoon, Christoph Waltz, Hal Holbrook, Ken Foree, Donna Scott, director Francis Lawrence, best-selling author Sara Gruen, and other celebrity guests.

And you'll have a chance to submit questions for Pattinson and his co-stars. Questions can be submitted on MTV.com or via Twitter, using @MTVNews and the hashtag #AskWFE.

Based on Gruen's acclaimed novel, the film follows a veterinary school student named Jacob (Pattinson), who joins a circus around the time of the Great Depression and falls in love with star performer Marlena (Reese Witherspoon). Marlena, however, is married to a charismatic but cruel animal trainer named August (Christoph Waltz), a man who stands dangerously in the way of Jacob and Marlena's pursuit of lasting love.

"It felt like it was kind of magical in many ways, because we were out in the desert shooting," Pattinson said of the production. "There was nothing from the modern world around. It was a different experience for me. It wasn't in a studio or anything."

James Durbin Wails On 'American Idol' Movie Night

Posted: 13 Apr 2011 07:40 AM PDT

Rocker was joined by legendary guitarist Zakk Wylde for heavy metal performance judges called 'outstanding.'
By Kara Warner

The buzz surrounding this week's episode of "American Idol" was especially high, given the major elimination shocker of assumed front-runner Pia Toscano last week. And while the contestants are always dealing with the looming pressure of elimination, there seemed to be an extra sense of anxiety coming from the eight remaining "Idol" hopefuls.

Nevertheless, there were a few standout performers who sang their hearts out during the always-interesting Songs of Cinema theme week. One in particular was heavy metal enthusiast and all-around rocker James Durbin.

Durbin made "Idol" history earlier this season when he sang the first Judas Priest track "You've Got Another Thing Comin'," marking the first time Priest was ever performed on the main stage. On Wednesday night (April 13), he went raw rocker again and, against the recommendations of mentors Jimmy Iovine and wil.i.am, performed Sammy Hagar's "Heavy Metal," from the '80s movie of the same name. "Give metal a chance!" Durbin said to the camera in the preview package that aired before his performance.

Joining Durbin onstage for his loud, energetic and guitar-solo-heavy performance was legendary Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Zakk Wylde, who said afterward that Durbin "sang his ass off."

"That felt really, really real!" a very excited Jennifer Lopez exclaimed. "I really loved that. I don't know what these are sounding like at home but here they are killing it dead," she said. "Who would have ever thought that on 'Idol' we would have heavy metal?"

Fellow judges Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler were equally impressed. "My God, you guys were just at a James Durbin concert, at a Zakk Wylde concert," Jackson told the audience. "I'm happy you stuck to your guns," he told Durbin of going against mentor Iovine's wishes. "We always tell contestants to 'do you' and tonight you did you. ... I can see you onstage with Ozzy at the next Ozzfest! Durbin rocks!"

"Outstanding, Durbin," Tyler said. "I'm glad you went with your feelings. ... Nice lip to Jimmy, man."

'Scream 4' Stars Were 'Paranoid' About Keeping Script Secret

'I had to read it at [director] Wes Craven's house,' Emma Roberts recalls of her first look.
By Kara Warner

With all the secretiveness surrounding the plot details of the "Scream" movies, it's natural to assume that the general public goes into the films with as little knowledge as the studio can prevent them from acquiring. (Even journalists are asked to refrain from reviewing or commenting on the film until it opens.) But what about the actors? How much are they privy to when they sign on?

MTV News recently caught up with the "Scream 4" cast to find out first, why we should believe their characters are not the killer and second, how much of the script they get to read before they sign on.

"[I got] the middle bit, the middle section," Hayden Panettiere told us. "I was in Germany and [the filmmakers] had somebody fly to Germany, meet me at home to watch me read the middle part of the script, so there was no beginning, no end, subject to change," she explained. "There's just something very funny about somebody sitting there watching you read it to make sure you don't sneak pictures or go sending it anywhere. You feel like your life may be in jeopardy if, God forbid, anything got out."

"When I first read the script, I had to read it at [director] Wes Craven's house," Emma Roberts revealed. "So I couldn't even have it sent to my house. When we got our scripts on set, they all had our names on them and I remember I was getting out of my car to go to work one day and I dropped my script and, literally, the pages were everywhere and I was in this parking lot chasing after all of my pages and, of course, the last few pages were floating away from me," she recalled. "I grabbed them and brought them to my trailer, [thinking], 'OK, I don't know what to do with all this paper, I'm so nervous to be carrying this around.' "

Franchise veteran David Arquette wasn't able to pull rank for extra information either.

"I didn't receive a full script, no," Arquette said. "It's always been a whirlwind when these films get going. You never really know what's happening, what's going to happen, and also how it works in the films ... when I go see these movies, there's a lot of, 'Oh, they kept that? Wow, that worked. Oooh, scary.' "

Jokesters Adam Brody and Anthony Anderson, who play buddy cops Hoff and Perkins in the film, claimed that they still don't know anything about the film.

"I'm still getting pages now," Anderson said.

"I got the whole thing, and then they took it back and then gave me another one," Brody bragged. "For as secret as it was — and I was really paranoid that I had it in my hotel room or backpack forever — it says your name on it and I thought, 'I'm going to blow this whole thing,' so surprisingly they gave it to me and let me keep it and I didn't want it," he said.

"Honestly, I don't think they gave us the actual script," Anderson continued. "I think they gave us some type of story with our name on it, to scare us," he claimed. "Because every time I got to work, the lines that were in the script that I had studied the night before were not the lines we were doing that day at work."

"But the killer stayed the same," protested Brody.

"I have no idea who the killer is!" Anderson exclaimed. "I really don't."

Taylor Lautner Calls Fighting Kristen Stewart 'Funny'

During 'MTV First,' 'Abduction' star reveals favorite 'Twilight' scene.
By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Despite talk inevitably turning to Taylor Lautner's upcoming action flick "Abduction" during his Wednesday (April 13), the questions we know everyone was dying to hear answered had to do with two other big movies he has on the horizon: "Breaking Dawn: Part 1" and "Part 2."

The "Twilight" gang has been filming the final two installments of "The Twilight Saga" since the fall, so we figured it was high time we ask Lautner which was the most exciting scene to film.

"It's really hard to choose because we're filming two movies so we've been filming for five months. There's been so much we filmed," he explained.

Still, Lautner admitted that there was one scene in particular that he shot not too long ago that he was a fan of because it was unlike any other that he's filmed with co-star Kristen Stewart.

"Recently we did a scene in the backyard of the Cullen house where Bella (Stewart) gets mad at me," he said. "She just learned that I imprinted on her daughter, and she is literally throwing me around the backyard. So it was pretty fun to see Kristen try and act all tough. She's a vampire; she's chucking me across the yard into trees and stuff. It was funny."

In a tease that we rolled out earlier Wednesday (April 13), Lautner told MTV News that he thinks that by the time "Breaking Dawn" ends filming, there will be plenty of waterworks across the set. "Nobody will admit it right now, but I guarantee you there will be tears," he said.

'X Factor' Judge L.A. Reid Hints At Another Record Label Gig

'I'm nobody's fool, I didn't give up my day job,' former Universal exec tells Hot 97 of Sony rumors.

Could L.A. Reid have another music executive gig up his sleeve? The music mogul resigned from his chairman post at Island Def Jam to become a judge on Simon Cowell's "X Factor," but he's been dropping hints that he hasn't completely abandoned the record label boardroom.

When MTV News asked Reid whether the relationship "X Factor" has with Sony Music — the winner will get a recording contract from the label — means he may be taking on an executive role at the company in the near future, he didn't totally dismiss the notion.

"You're good, you are so good, you're good, let's have that conversation another time," Reid coyly told us. "Just hold that one for a little while; slow down, pal."

On Tuesday, during a phone interview with Hot 97's Angie Martinez, Reid dodged a similar question from the radio personality while also noting that his gig on "X Factor" is only one of his gigs and "just a little bit of a shift." "Listen, I'm nobody's fool, I didn't give up my day job," Reid told Martinez. "I had to leave Universal Music Group and try my hat on someplace else that we'll announce. We'll announce that one in a little while."

While at Def Jam Reid, reported to Doug Morris, who recently left his post as chairman of the Universal Music Group. Morris will formally assume the role of CEO of Sony Music on July 1.

Besides a recording contract from Sony Music, the eventual winner of "X Factor" will take home $5 million in cash. Cowell, Reid and the rest of the still-unannounced judges will be seeking artists with astronomical talents to match that windfall.

"I'm personally looking for artists that are along the lines of today's pop stars," Reid said. "Whether it be a Rihanna or a Justin Bieber or a Kanye West or a Beyoncé or a Lady Gaga, I'm looking for talent that's like that, that's what I love. I love pop stars; that's what I get off on. But not only in pop music, it can be Drake or it could be Jay-Z or it could be Lil Wayne. I'm just looking for a wide range of artists to come out who have the potential to become stars like that."

Taylor Momsen Calls Pretty Reckless' <i>Light Me Up</i> 'Honest'

Taylor Momsen has been teasing fans for quite some time now about her debut album. This week, she and the Pretty Reckless finally dropped Light Me Up, a searing rock album that features the "Gossip Girl" star growling over guitars.

Momsen said she's been talking about it so much that finally having it out is still kind of unbelievable.

"It doesn't exactly feel real yet. I've been talking about it for a long time," she told MTV News. "I'm very excited for people to hear it."

Momsen has had a big task as she pushes to get people to hear the album. She needs to somehow convince the world that she isn't just another starlet thinking it might be cool to release an album. For her, music is what it's really all about.

"It's still something I have to overcome," she explained. "I don't think it's fully transitioned. I would consider myself a musician that also acts. I've been writing songs since I was 5. It's the thing that I chose for myself. I wasn't put into it. I made the decision and couldn't live without it, and hopefully people will give the record a chance and they'll hear that. They'll hear that it's not some side vanity project [but] that I really, really worked on it for a long time, really my whole life."

While many of her peers in La La Land have opted to release more top 40-friendly tunes, Momsen has embraced grunge alt.

"I wouldn't have ever put out a dance record and probably never will," she said. "I think there's a place for all types of music, but it's not my cup of tea.

"I love classic rock," she continued. "What I love about music is I love playing. That's what I loved about music to begin with; that's what I fell in love with. It was the rawness and hearing the imperfections and having the imperfections be what makes it so unique and honest. I really wanted to make an honest record. That was the outlook that kept me sane and honest."

Out of the 11 tracks on the record, Momsen said she can't really nail down her favorite. "I think there's something for everyone on the record," she said. "There was no real formula to the way that we wrote. It's hard to define that, but 'Make Me Wanna Die' [is my favorite song] if I had to pick one. It was the first song written for the record, so it kind of defined the direction."

Diddy-Dirty Money Begin 'Intimate' Coming Home Tour

Shows will look 'as dynamic and as emotional' as Last Train to Paris sounds, Diddy tells MTV News.

Diddy-Dirty Money is making sure their Last Train to Paris album gets an extended shelf life. The Sean "Diddy" Combs-led trio is kicking off their Coming Home Tour on Wednesday (April 13) in Minneapolis. Over his almost 20-year recording career, the Bad Boy Records CEO has grown accustomed to rocking stadiums, but this tour will be hitting small venues during its month-long run.

"We wanted to do an intimate tour because it gives you a chance to play to the people that really love your music," Diddy told MTV News during a rehearsal break. "It's not as commercial as just going to an arena situation, which after this, we have different arena shows. The whole purpose of this was the reinvention, to do things that I haven't done before, for me to have new, different experiences and for me to really connect with people. ... I think there's no better way than to go and do an up close and personal tour."

While show locales might be smaller in scale, Diddy-Dirty Money will be backed by a band, and they plan on packing the same emotion and sonic passion found on the Last Train album into their shows.

"I just wanted it to look how it sounded," Diddy said. "As dynamic and as emotional as it sounds, that's the way it's going to look. I wanted to give people more than what they bargained for. Because in this viral age, I just wanted to imagine the first five dates and how every city, when people see the show, they'll be talking about it virally."

Prepping for the shows has shown the group's other members, singers Dawn Richards and Kalenna Harper, the intense side of Diddy as he makes sure the tour's stage show is perfect.

"The crazy thing about working with Puff is that we've learned to work around him, focusing and understanding it's a learning process," Harper said. "We're with somebody who's been in the industry for 20-some-odd years. So, for him to be focused on what the lights look like, what it should sound like, like he said, 'Looking out for the bullsh--,' that's something for us to pay attention to, and we're in the group with him."

After numerous delays, Last Train was released in December and landed at #7 on the Billboard albums chart. Most projects start winding down a few months after their release, but this group doesn't plan to let up anytime soon.

"That's the great thing about this group that I'm really excited about: our work ethic. There's no such thing as sleep," Richards said. "For us, this is the fun part. We been locked in the studio for three years trying to figure out what this [album] was going to be like. To finally have it come to pass and then to be able to sit here with the band and hear it live like this is really [exciting] for us."

Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' Bollywood Remix Is 'Magical,' Producers Say

Composers Salim-Sulaiman says Gaga had a 'very positive response' to their version.

Shortly after dropping a country-fried version of "Born This Way," Indian composers Salim-Sulaiman were approached to do a Bollywood version of the song, breathing new life into the chart-topping track and putting their own Desi seal on it.

"It was kind of difficult to start with," Sulaiman Merchant told MTV News, crediting entertainment website Desi Hits! for helping to curate the collaboration. "It's been such a big track, it's been very popular, and when you consider the style, it's very aggressive. It's got all the stuff that's required to make it a nice clubby track, so for us, the most important thing was: How do you get it into a zone where it's palpable to the Indian flavor? And the first thing we did was bring in a sitar, and that changed the flavor a little bit. We kept the aggression but changed the style and made it a little more four on the floor, a little more house."

Salim Merchant added that "we wanted to bring in an Indian sound ... and give a Sufi touch as well." He explained that after getting over some initial nerves, "It's fantastic how it all turned out. There was this little pressure because the song was #1. I guess once we put that baggage behind ... it was magical. Once we started it, everything came into place. It became a celebration."

While Gaga is a global superstar, Sulaiman said she has yet to really permeate India's pop culture. "Lady Gaga hasn't been as popular as we would like it to be over here, so this track wasn't as big before," he said. "We finished the mix, and now it's getting into the zone where it's gaining popularity. It's a great way to get eyeballs and ears onto Lady Gaga."

Has Gaga given the guys any indication of how she feels about the track? "She has liked it," Salim said. "She did mention she really loves it. When we did send her the final version, we did get a big very, very positive response. She really loved it. That's what she mentioned. I'm really happy. Finally the artist is Gaga about the song."

'American Idol' Preview: What Happens Post-Pia Toscano?

'Idol' expert Jim Cantiello offers up suggestions for the top eight as they tackle songs of the cinema.
By Eric Ditzian

"American Idol" top 8

"American Idol" ended last week in a swirl of shock, anger and boo- hooing as Pia Toscano was sent home and Ryan Seacrest was reduced to begging viewers: "We need you! Stay with us this season!"

Where does the show go from here? Well, "Idol" will be relying on the bright lights of Hollywood to wash out memories of arguably the most shocking elimination in its history, as the remaining eight singers take on songs of the cinema. That's a familiar theme in "Idol" land, one last seen just last year (recall how Crystal Bowersox gave a killer country-rock makeover to Kenny Loggins' "I'm Alright"), but which stretches back all the way to season two.

What direction should the contestants take? Read on for what we'll be looking for them to deliver. And in a special addition to this week's preview, Jim Cantiello — whose "Idol Party Live" returns to MTV.com on Thursday at noon ET — will be adding in his own song picks.

Casey Abrams
We had long since tired of Casey's uncreative use of his growls and groans and other assorted throaty eruptions, when we realized something: The real growly whiz kid on the show is Haley Reinhart. So there's that. And there's this: Casey's now saddled with the judges' save curse, and it's only a matter of weeks before he's headed home. His best bet is to haul out the upright bass again — it helped him avoid the bottom three last week — and continue to do what he's been doing all along. It's almost always enjoyable to hear; it's just not enough to carry him into the final weeks of the competition.
Jim's Pick: Lindsey Buckingham's "Holiday Road" from "National Lampoon's Vacation"

Haley Reinhart
We can't overstate how important this week is for Haley. This performance will be the key to knowing if her comeback is for real or if her surge will be remembered as an all-too-brief interlude between her lost-puppyish early songs and elimination. We're hoping for the former, because it's been so satisfying to see her find her creative sweet spot after languishing in the bottom tier. So Haley, don't change a thing from what you started with "Bennie and the Jets" and continued with "Piece of My Heart."
Jim's Pick: The Cardigans' "Lovefool" from "Romeo + Juliet"

Jacob Lusk
Please take those uncomfortable hip thrusts and bury them, Jacob, much like you buried the idea to sing "Let's Get it On." While you're at it, get rid of that unearned egotism that has crept into your persona as of late. And shoot, let's make it a trifecta of things to ditch: songs so suffused with teary-eyed emotion that it appears you're on the verge of a nervous breakdown rather than an all-important "moment." Replace all this stuff with the restraint you showed during Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell's "You're All I Need to Get By," your finest performance of the season.
Jim's Pick: Tevin Campbell's "Round and Round" from "Graffiti Bridge"

James Durbin
We were surprised — and grateful! — that James avoided reaching for stadium-rock godhood during rock week and instead embraced his sensitive side, because we've argued again and again that such stuff is his strength. We just don't think James agrees. We expect him to go uptempo again. No matter what he does, however, voters seem to dig it.
Jim's Pick: Kenny Loggins' "Danger Zone" from "Top Gun"

Lauren Alaina
Like James, though for far different reasons, Lauren is at her best during slower jams. But she also can't forget to add in a few dashes of country flavor, which often spice up her performances into piquant wowers. That was the problem with her competent take on "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" last week. Sure, it sounded great, but it didn't sound like Lauren. This week, we'd like to see her go slow and country/rock. Not that it matters: This fan favorite ain't going anywhere for a while.
Jim's Pick: Aimee Mann's "Wise Up" from "Magnolia"

Paul McDonald
Paul's most savvy move to date was making his guitar a staple of his live performances. Without the instrument slung across his shoulder, the guy feels compelled to lurch to and fro like a toddler after a margarita at Applebee's; it's unnecessary, not to mention kinda ridiculous. No one this season has more fun onstage, no one knows how to play to the crowd like he does and no one's a better showman. For these reasons, Jim's got the perfect song ...
Jim's Pick: Pixies' "Where Is My Mind' from "Fight Club"

Scotty McCreery
Last week, we outed ourselves — if not as fans, than as humble appreciators of what Scotty dishes out: über-professional country ditties that are impressive even before you consider the kid is just 17. We've stopped fighting it. We've stopped hoping Scotty shows us another side to his artistry (hey, look what happened to Pia when she tried something different). He could quit tomorrow and we'd know exactly what kind of record he'd make — and that it would move a ton of units. But Scotty, of course, isn't leaving the "Idol" stage for a long, long time.
Jim's Pick: The Proclaimers' "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" from "Benny & Joon"

Stefano Langone
Beware the backlash! No matter what Stefano does this week, he might find himself bearing the brunt of a Pia backlash, as voters target Stefano as the singer who should have gone home last week. They wouldn't be wrong. Week after week, he's shown he doesn't have the vocal power to nail the songs he's choosing. He'll have to pull off a stunner to avoid elimination. But, we should all remember, stranger things have happened this season, right Pia?
Jim's Pick: Rebekah Del Rio's "Llorando" from "Mulholland Drive"

"I think it's mixed emotions, for sure," Lautner said of his feelings on nearing the end of filming. "Half of me says, 'This will be a relief. I get some time off, I get to spend some time with family and friends and do other things,' but the other half says, 'This is going to be so weird.' "

When asked whether he thinks he and his fellow castmates will shed any tears, Lautner was man enough to admit that they'll all likely share in some waterworks.

"Nobody will admit it right now, but I guarantee you there will be tears," Lautner said.

In another sneak peek of our interview, Lautner addressed the inevitable comparisons between his character in "Abduction," Nathan Price, and Jason Bourne. Beyonce Waves Her 'B' Flag In New Video Set Photos

Leaked pictures show diva in an elaborate headdress, surrounded by female 'soldiers.'
By James Montgomery

On Tuesday, Beyoncé fans went batty when photos of the Queen B — reportedly taken on the set of her brand-new music video — began making the rounds. The blurry snaps show B rocking a fierce faux-hawk, white jumpsuit and sunglasses, reportedly Givenchy couture (like there was any doubt) and, according to fan sites like BeyonceDaily, are from the shoot for a song called "Girl."

Aside from that, details remained scarce ... until Wednesday (April 13) that is, when even more on-set pics hit the Net. In the new photos, Beyoncé stands in a smoky, post-apocalyptic war zone, wearing an elaborate headdress and holding a battle flag aloft (and it sure looks like said flag is emblazoned with a big "B"). She's surrounded by an army of dancers, each of whom is dressed in what could charitably be called "Les Misérables" chic, their fists thrust triumphantly in the air.

It's not exactly clear if the photos are taken from the set of "Girl" or, as some reports suggest, they're from another video shoot, supposedly for a song called "'Till the End of the World." Regardless, Beyoncé is clearly up to something, and her flurry of activity only lends credence to a report in Australia's The Daily Telegraph that she'll be releasing the follow-up to her massive I Am ... Sasha Fierce in late June.

When MTV News last spoke to Beyoncé, she told us she was aiming to bust barriers with the new album, proclaiming that she was drawing inspiration from "every type of genre."

"I'm not in a box," she said. "It's not R&B. It's not typically pop. It's not rock. It's just everything I love all mixed together in my own little gumbo of music."

What do you think of Beyoncé's video-set photos? Tell us in the comments!
