Check Out Eminem's Top Five Awards-Show Performances

Before Em hits the 2009 MTV Movie Awards stage, we look back at his best appearances.

Whether he's confronting his critics, slamming celebrities, getting sublimely silly or seriously spitting, it seems Eminem is always at his best on the big stage. And that's convenient, especially since he's just been announced as a performer at the 2009 MTV Movie Awards, airing live Sunday, May 31, at 9 p.m. ET.

We don't know what to expect from Em on Movie Awards night, but if his previous performances are any indication, we could be in for a wild one. So, in celebration of the big announcement, here's a look back at Eminem's best awards-show performances.

5. 2005 MTV Movie Awards
Em got schizophrenic at the '05 Movie Awards, kicking off his performance by interviewing Lindsay Lohan as Triumph the Insult Comic Dog ("You like remaking movies ... what are you going to remake next? 'Glitter?' "), then bounding onstage to perform "Ass Like That," backed up by life-size, gluteus-ly enhanced "Crank Yankers" characters. He then shifted gears, launching into a somber performance of "Mockingbird," a song about his relationship with daughter Hailie. It was a turn so shockingly abrupt, it could've left everyone with whiplash, but Em pulled it off and managed to showcase the silly and the serious in a single performance.

4. 2002 MTV Movie Awards
Eminem flies in, dressed as the superhero from the "Without Me" video (perhaps an homage to Howard Stern's "Fartman" appearance at the '92 Video Music Awards), pulls a quick change in a phone booth, then emerges and positively tears through a version of the song. Actress Brittany Murphy is shown several times, rapping along from the audience (perhaps she thought she was still in "8 Mile"). She is just about as fired up as Em is. Bizarre.

3. 1999 MTV Video Music Awards
A baby-faced Em dons a blue hoodie (with "Role Model" spelled out on the front in blinking lights), spits his way through versions of "My Name Is" and "Guilty Conscience" (with Dr. Dre). Snoop Dogg — who is deep in his "No Limit is the label that pays me" period here — appears, and he and Dre send the crowd into hysterics by launching into "Nuthin' but a 'G' Thang." Eminem joins them to sing the hook. And the baton is officially passed.

2. 2000 MTV Video Music Awards
At this point, Eminem was arguably the biggest star in the music industry (either him or Britney Spears, who would stage a coming-out party of her own at the '00 VMAs), and he delivered on the hype with a performance that has since gone down in VMA history. He stormed New York's Radio City Music Hall with an army of Slim Shady look-alikes, and — looking lean and mean — strutted his way through a medley of "The Real Slim Shady" and a downright angry "The Way I Am." It doesn't get much better than this.

1. The 43rd Annual Grammy Awards
For most of 2000, Eminem weathered the protests of groups like GLAAD, who found the content of his The Marshall Mathers LP to be "hate-filled" and "homophobic." And when it was announced in early 2001 that Em would be joined by Elton John for a duet of "Stan," at the 43rd Grammy Awards, they boycotted outside the Staples Center, where the show took place. What they missed was perhaps the most fiery, revelatory performance of the rapper's career. It was six minutes of emotion and vitriol that earned Em a standing ovation. And at performance's end, he embraced John, raised his hands in the air, and extended a middle finger to his critics. The message was clear: You can't say anything about me anymore. If anyone ever says rappers can't perform live, feel free to direct them to this clip.

'Hills' Recap: Stephanie Pratt Follows In Spencer's Footsteps

Steph manipulates Heidi's love life and invades Lauren's workplace on Monday's episode.

Watch your back, Spencer Pratt: There's a new sh-- stirrer in town, and it's no surprise that you share DNA. On "The Hills" Monday night (April 13), Stephanie Pratt emerged as the Queen of Drama.

It all started when Stephanie and her train-captain hat took the Polar Express over to Chez Spencer to give him some words of advice while lady love Heidi was out of town. "You should just be on your best behavior right now," Steph offered. Granted, this advice was warranted, considering in last week's season-five premiere, Spencer hung out (and possibly hooked up) with a trampy bartender and got in a fistfight with Stephanie's ex-boyfriend, Cameron. But Stephanie took it one step further, going out of her way to let Spencer know that Heidi met up with her bible-study ex while in Colorado. Stephanie's been taking notes in Reality TV 101: How to Make Sure You're the Center of Attention Even if the Story Line Has Nothing to Do With You (taught by Aminat from this cycle of "America's Next Top Model").

Meanwhile, at People's Revolution, another Reality TV 101 superstar — Kelly Cutrone — is freaking out that Whitney Port isn't on payroll anymore. Her staff is down a reality-show castmember, and Kelly needs more free publicity, dang it! So she approached Lauren and asked the Golden Child if she had any other friends who would be interested in "working" at the company, but in the same breath warned, "Be careful about who you refer, especially if they're your friends." Hey, lady, do you want Lauren's friends or not? So schizo! Later at lunch, LC casually mentioned to Stephanie that People's Rev was looking for new interns to exploit, and Steph pounced. "How does one apply to People's Revolution?" Forget Reality 101. She's already passed 201: How to Guarantee Screen Time by Inviting Yourself to Any and Everything (this class is taught by Alex and Simon from "The Real Housewives of New York").

Back at Spencer and Heidi's place, Heidi barely put her luggage down before Spencer picked a fight. Spencer was mad that Heidi (or, as he called her, "Miss Hypocrite") randomly bumped into an old flame while out to dinner with her parents, while Heidi was still mad that Spencer hung out with a trashy bartender. Heidi's best line: "Taking shots with a bartender is a little different than going out to dinner with your family." (Clearly, Heidi's never been out to dinner with the Lohan clan.) Spencer's best line: "You left for three days, and I was like, 'Wow, this is three days without fighting. How refreshing.' " It's a tough call, but I think Spencer won this battle, even though he ended the fight with a boldfaced lie by telling Heidi he didn't see the bartender while she was away. (Did he not think Heidi would see the footage?)

At People's Revolution, Stephanie showed up for her big interview. She offended Kelly by listing "designing handbags" as her objective on her résumé (which was inexplicably folded into an envelope?!); she lied about being fluent in French; and she stared blankly when Kelly asked if she knew how to print out labels. Bravo! Reality TV 301: Do a Task So Hilariously Awful That People Can't Stop Talking About You (taught by recent "American Idol" reject Scott MacIntyre).

Stephanie's ploy worked, because Kelly wants as many TV cameras in her office as possible. But Kelly revealed her "real" motivation for hiring Stephanie to LC later. "The interview was such a folly that she could be genius." And in just 11 words, Kelly Cutrone summed up the exact reason why George W. Bush got re-elected in 2004. She added to Lauren: "But if she f---s up, you're the one who has to fire her. ... You might want to kiss her on the cheek, but I'd put a gun to her back to make sure she stands up straight." Kinky!

Stephanie's "It's All About Me" world tour continued while she was out to dinner with Heidi. In about 25 seconds, Steph convinced Heidi that Spencer was out with his "bad influence" buddy Charlie (whose influence seems limited to ugly facial hair and jive talking) and that she and Heidi should track them down in a club to make sure Spencer's not canoodling with skanks.

You know where this is going ...

Obviously, Spencer was with the bartender, who is as obsessed with the Def Leppard song "Pour Some Sugar on Me" as Spencer is obsessed with Patrón tequila. Heidi flipped out on Spencer (and Charlie), Stephanie flipped out on the bartender ("Do you own pants in your closet?" Snap!), the bartender flipped out on Stephanie ("You look like a dog, you're wearing fur!" PETA snap!), Spencer flipped out on Stephanie, and ultimately, Heidi told Spencer she didn't want to see him again.

But Stephanie's manipulation was far from over. The next morning, she suggested Heidi give Spencer a dramatic ultimatum (go to therapy or lose Heidi forever) but disguised her bold maneuvering by surrounding it in clichés. "Love doesn't make sense and nobody ever said it was easy." I wouldn't be surprised if Stephanie releases a self-help book by the end of the season called "The Love Doctor." (Which brings up an interesting legal question: If she were to release such a book, could we file a class-action malpractice lawsuit against her?)

Easily manipulated Heidi acted like the puppet she is and followed through with Stephanie's plan. Spencer lashed out at the prospect of visiting a therapist (or, as he called it, "some random stranger who went to an extra year of school") and then used the worst excuse ever for hanging out with the bartender. "If I was nearly as bad as all my other friends, I would be bonking this bartender much more frequently than I am! Give me some credit, woman!" (I'm paraphrasing there.) I hate to compare any "Hills" castmember to an animal, but that was the straw that broke the camel's back. Heidi delivered a kiss-off worthy of a Razzie. "I don't wanna look at you, I don't wanna talk to you, I don't wanna be near you."

Could it be that Heidi and Spencer are officially over? (Ignore all the tabloid reports that they're getting married this month, OK?) And is it possible that Stephanie has emerged as the valedictorian of her reality-TV class, achieving Richard Hatch levels of manipulation? And how does Kelly Cutrone sleep at night?

I want to know what you think of the latest "Hills." Leave a comment below.

Chris Brown Reportedly Dating Hometown Ex Erica Jackson

Chris Brown is reportedly back together with an ex-girlfriend — but it's not Rihanna, who the 19-year-old singer has been charged with attacking in an alleged February 8 early-morning altercation that resulted in Brown pleading not guilty last week to felony counts of assault and making criminal threats.

According to New York's Daily News, Brown is back together with an ex-girlfriend from his home state of Virginia, Erica Jackson. The tabloid reported that the University of Mary Washington student recently started dating Brown again. "[Chris and Erica] met in Virginia, where he's from," an unidentified source close to the singer reportedly told the paper. "They dated back in the day and reconnected a few weeks ago when Chris was in town. They've been spending a lot of time together, but things only really heated up over the last two weeks."

Brown was recently photographed shooting hoops at Mary Washington and posing with the women's basketball team on a visit that coincided with the school's "White Ribbon Campaign" devoted to raising awareness about violence toward women.

Following an alleged brief reconciliation at a home owned by Diddy in Miami shortly after the alleged assault, Brown and Rihanna have not been spotted together in public for several weeks. The unnamed source told the Daily News that while Jackson is "no Rihanna," the general feeling among Brown's friends and family is that she is going to be good for him. "[Erica] has a good head on her shoulders; she's solid," the source reportedly said. "... At the very least, she's helping to ease Chris' pain over Rihanna. He was mad in love with that girl."

Brown and Jackson were reported to have been seen leaving a Sunset Boulevard tattoo parlor on Saturday afternoon. While a spokesperson for Brown did not return requests for comment at press time, an unnamed representative for the singer told the paper, "He did go to a tattoo parlor with someone from the studio named Dean. There was a woman there who was a friend of Dean. There is no truth to this at all. Chris does not know the woman nor does he know the name of the woman." A Chris Brown fan site has posted the alleged photos of Brown and Jackson.

Adding to the confusion, some sites have identified the woman spotted with Brown at the parlor not as Jackson, but former Girlicious member Natalie Mejia.

Another unnamed source, this one reportedly close to Rihanna, told the Daily News, "She is going to be pissed! ... Ri is going to be so hurt that Chris has moved on so quickly and is parading this new girl around town." Rihanna's lawyer has said that his client plans to cooperate with prosecutors on the Brown case by testifying if subpoenaed to do so. Brown is due in court again on April 29.

Kanye West Says 'South Park' Didn't Cause His 'Ego Epiphany'

'I've been working on myself for a while now,' Yeezy proclaims.

OK, so maybe we were wrong about Kanye West's ego. Seems he's been working on it since long before being depicted in last week's "South Park" episode. Or at least that's what he's telling us.

Confused? Well, here's the quick recap: Last Wednesday, "South Park" ran their now infamous "Fish Sticks" episode, which lambasted Yeezy as an egomaniacal jerk who just so happened to also be a closeted "gay fish." Hours after the episode aired, West took to his blog to announce — rather humbly, it should be noted — that not only did he find his portrayal on the show to be "pretty funny," but that "I actually have been working on my ego. ... I'm not actually a huge douche."

It seemed that the creators of "South Park" had awakened some sort of ego epiphany inside the notoriously self-assured rapper, and we were all fairly impressed. But late Friday, West posted another missive, this one letting us all know that the whole "gay fish" thing had nothing to do with a newfound quest for self-improvement. In fact, he has been working on his ego for a while now.

"The 'South Park' episode did not make me have this ego epiphany!" he wrote. "I actually only watched a piece of the episode, which was funny. I've been working on myself for a while now, which is hard to do in the public eye. I just used [this blog] as a platform to express where my head is at."

And then all was well and good ... until Saturday, when West posted a third "South Park"-inspired blog, this one seeming to hint that the show — and the whole "fish sticks" joke — may actually be ruining his life ... or at least his dining experiences at Cheesecake Factories across the country.

"I was at Cheesecake Factory yesterday, and the manager brought me a plate of fish sticks," the post read. "(In a sarcastic tone) Uuuuuum, GREAT!"

As of Monday (April 13), there have been no further "South Park" blog posts on West's site (there have been lots of posts about Nikes and architecture though), leaving many to wonder just what the next chapter in the ongoing "Fish Sticks" melodrama will be.

Phil Spector Found Guilty Of Murder

Producer faces a minimum of 15 years in prison and could serve a life sentence.

Legendary producer Phil Spector has been found guilty of second-degree murder for the 2003 shooting death of actress Lana Clarkson.

The verdict was read in a Los Angeles courtroom shortly after 5 p.m. ET on Monday (April 13). The jury in the case — six men and six women — began deliberations March 26, trying to decide if Spector, 69, was guilty of second-degree murder or a lesser charge of involuntary manslaughter. They opted for the former, and Spector now faces a minimum of 15 years in prison and could serve a life sentence.

In 2003, Spector — known for his famed "Wall of Sound" production techniques and his work with acts like the Ronettes, the Beatles and the Ramones — was charged with the shooting death of Clarkson, 40, who was found dead in the foyer of the producer's Alhambra, California, home.

The case went to trial in 2007, with Spector's defense arguing that Clarkson was depressed after a recent breakup and shot herself, while prosecutors attempted to paint him as a gun-toting villain who had threatened several women in the past. They also had testimony from Spector's driver, who said he heard a loud noise inside the house and saw the producer leave the house, brandishing a pistol and saying, "I think I killed somebody."

After deliberating for 15 days, jurors told a Los Angeles superior court judge that they were unable to reach a verdict, and the case was declared a mistrial.

The retrial began late last year, and this time, the prosecution portrayed Spector as "a sadistic misogynist who had a three-decade history of playing Russian roulette with the lives of women when he was drunk," according to the Los Angeles Times. The producer's defense team maintained once again that Clarkson was depressed over her career and financial concerns and may have committed suicide after a night of heavy drinking with Spector.

At press time, it wasn't known when Spector will be sentenced, but moments after the verdict was read, Spector's attorney, Doron Weinberg, told reporters he plans to appeal the decision.

Heidi Montag promises that Lauren Conrad's final chapter of "The Hills" will be unlike any other. If you think there's been drama in the past, you'd better think again.

"I don't even think the best moments have begun," she told MTV News. "I think 'The Hills' is just heating up."

MTV News wanted to know Heidi's all-time favorite "Hills" moments, but she couldn't pick anything from the past four seasons because she thinks season five really has everything fans are looking for and will remember.

"I think the drama and my favorite moments are just happening. I think people are going to be surprised," she said. "You have no idea! This is going to be the craziest season in the history of TV."

Although Heidi is no stranger to drama — thanks to her relationship with Spencer Pratt and her tear-filled friendship with Lauren — she isn't planning to relive the ups and downs. "I don't even think I'm going to watch," she said, "because I'll get too angry."

And with Lauren exiting after this season, everyone is wondering if that means Heidi might get her own show in the near future. "I love 'The Hills,' and I definitely don't want to go anywhere anytime soon," she said. "That's my home, and I'm so grateful to be on it, so we'll see."

Lil Wayne Dis Site Surfaces In Wake Of Lawsuit

Lil Wayne is the object of scorn once again — Makin Moves Entertainment has set up a Web site titled Lil Wayne Gonna Sue You, striking out at the rapper for the second time in response to a recent lawsuit filed against the New York-based company by Cash Money Records.

The site, billed as a "Public Service Announcement," contains several slights against the popular lyricist. "I Want To Sue You" T-shirts featuring the rapper's image in Uncle Sam-like attire are for sale and YouTube clips with audio of Pimp C making disparaging (and out-of-context) remarks about rappers who file lawsuits have been posted in an attempt to disparage Wayne. A Makin Moves artist also composed a Wayne dis track.

The site is in response to a lawsuit that was amended in court earlier this month. Cash Money Records filed suit against Texas-based BCD Music Group in early 2009. The suit alleges BCD illegally sold Lil Wayne mixtapes in retail stores and online outlets for profit. The mixtapes were projects hosted by Makin Moves and DJ Drama — a lawyer for the label told MTV News that paperwork alleges the parties struck deals with BCD to sell the music and share revenues.

Candace Carponter clarified the nature of the lawsuits, saying they stem from an injunction submitted by Cash Money the label, not from Wayne personally. At the root of the litigation is BCD versus Cash Money.

"BCD claimed the right to sell the music," Carponter explained, noting the contracts the company said it signed with the parties, including Drama. "So we named them [all the parties] in complaints and they have 30 days to answer the charges, based on when they receive the papers."

Carponter said the parties were authorized to make the mixtapes and the projects were joint collaborations with Lil Wayne, but the act of profiting from Wayne's music and image were prohibited under the arraignments. Dedication 2 and 3 were among the mixtapes listed in the lawsuit — the projects were part of the series of mixtapes hosted by DJ Drama that helped catapult Wayne to superstardom.

In a previous statement, Drama distanced himself from the lawsuit, saying his relationship with Wayne is fine.

"This is not a case of Lil Wayne vs. DJ Drama. Me and Wayne are good," the DJ wrote. "I am confident that this matter will be resolved quickly without harming the relationships between myself, Wayne and Cash Money Records. However, due to the ongoing nature of this litigation I do not wish to make any further comments."

Representatives for Lil Wayne did not respond to a request for comment as of press time.

For the first time in nearly 20 years, the Dave Matthews Band will kick off a tour without LeRoi Moore wailing on the sax.

Moore died in August due to complications from an ATV accident in late June. With LeRoi in their hearts and minds, the rockers will kick off their summer tour with a sold-out show at New York's Madison Square Garden on Tuesday. Joining them will be longtime Matthews collaborator Tim Reynolds, as well as Jeff Coffin of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones filling in for the late saxophonist.

The band hits the road nonstop until October 2, wrapping up in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Expect to get a good taste of old and new DMB as well as the band's signature cover songs. "It's always fun to do covers," drummer Carter Beauford said. "Not too many, but you know, just a couple to help change gears a little bit and then go back and do your thing to knock 'em dead."

Whether you catch them indoors or outdoors this summer, the Billboard-crowned Top Drawing American Band in the World won't stray too far from form.

"There is a lot of power that comes from playing inside," Matthews said. "But I like the outside venue too. That's fine. I don't care. I like playing, so I don't care really where we are."

Beauford couldn't agree more: "I think that's it right there — he nailed it. We all just love playing. ... It doesn't matter where, 'cause we are going to have fun regardless."

The band's seventh studio album, Big Whiskey and the Groogrux King, is set to drop June 2.

T.I. Says Next Album Will Be More Of A 'Celebration' Than Paper Trail

The uncertainty that followed T.I.'s 2007 arrest for attempting to illegally purchase firearms in Atlanta on the eve of the BET Hip-Hop Awards inspired most of his latest album, Paper Trail.

Songs like "Live Your Life," "No Matter What" and "My Life, Your Entertainment" recalled the rapper's emotions during the embattled period in his life, mostly from his arrest until he struck a plea deal last March. The project was both critically acclaimed and commercially successful. Paper Trail went gold its first week of release, scored Tip his first two #1 singles ("Whatever You Like" and "Life Your Life") and earned him accolades and praise within the music industry.

So what is he gonna do for an encore?

"The celebration, putting these things behind me and moving forward," Tip told MTV News about the direction of his next album, scheduled for a 2010 release, following a re-release of Paper Trail this year. "Showcasing a new resilience, you know? Laughing in these suckers' faces. I'm going to get back to some of the old elements that put me on people's minds."

Tip said he has upward of 20 songs for his next album, which is still untitled. T.I. has once again returned to writing down some of his rhymes, as he did for the first time since his debut on Paper Trail. He also said he intends to veer into some subject matter similar to the material on his first album, I'm Serious.

"I'm doing it half and half," he said of writing and freestyle composing. "It depends on the type of record I'm doing. I have records now I did and I just went and did it like I used to, and I got some where I wrote it down. I'm not committing myself to one way or another. It'd have to be an infusion, just depending on what sort of album I want to make."

Some of the songs T.I.'s recording now could make it on the re-release of Paper Trail. Tip said he's looking to add five more songs to the new version, along with other bonus content.

"Recording is never a problem for me," he said. "I'm able to record any time. Through the best of times and through the worst of times, I'm still able to record. It may change the sort of song you do, but you never can tell. You never know until that moment gets there."

Sure, Nick Jonas and Miley Cyrus will be teaming up for the charity single "Pass It On," but the teen stars and former flames also got together for lunch over the weekend in Los Angeles.

Jonas and Cyrus were seen leaving the Village Idiot restaurant in Hollywood, according to Hollywood.TV, which also has video footage of a little fender bender the onetime couple were involved in on their way out.

In the clip, the stars get into Jonas' Mustang Cobra in an alley. The car turns onto the street, scraping an SUV in the process. Despite apparently knocking off part of the other vehicle's bumper, Jonas keeps driving.

The pair dated a couple of years back, and Miley admitted last year that their breakup left her in a "weird funk." Still, she's never been shy to talk about how much she cared and still cares for Nick. In fact, she once said that even though their breakup left her devastated, she'd still be open for a reunion. "Maybe he'll be my best friend for the rest of my life," she told Seventeen magazine at the time, "or maybe I'll end up marrying Nick Jonas!" Currently, Miley, who also called Nick her "Prince Charming" in her book, "Miles to Go," is dating model/musician Justin Gaston.

Since his split with Miley, Nick has been romantically linked to both Selena Gomez and Jordan Pruitt, although he has never confirmed relationships with either of the Disney stars. He did tell Barbara Walters, however, that much like Miley, he hasn't closed the door on a romantic reunion: "I think it really comes down to a good friendship and whatever that has in the future."
