Lady Gaga's Grammy Performance: How Will She Top Herself?

MTV News takes a guess at what Lady Gaga will do Sunday during her 'Born This Way' performance.

On Sunday, days after debuting "Born This Way," a splashy dance track about accepting who you are, Lady Gaga is set to take the stage and perform the song for the first time at the Grammys (if you don't count the time she sang part of the chorus at the VMAs back in September).

Gaga's live performances are typically gory, over-the-top spectacles. She died a bloody death onstage during the 2009 VMAs, she played with fire that same year at the American Music Awards and paid tribute to her late pal, Alexander McQueen, at the Brit Awards in 2010.

Last year at the Grammy Awards, the singer didn't miss a beat. She appeared, donning a sparkly getup by Armani Privé from a toxic waste container, singing her "Poker Face." Soon, she was discarded by one of her dancers, leaving the audience completely unsure as to what was happening next.

Then she was back, completely covered in ashes, this time joined by Elton John, who had been Gaga-fied (thanks to ashes, Gaga's sparkly sunglasses and a glittering, galactic earring). The two sat, facing one another, at pianos, playing her piano ballad "Speechless" and his iconic track "Your Song."

With nothing known about what Gaga will do at this year's broadcast, she has been vocal about why she chooses to go dark and usually die during her live shows, versus keeping it light and fun.

"That's what everyone wants to know, right? What is she going to look like when she dies ... when she's overdosed on whatever they think I'm overdosing on?" Gaga said of the choice to get gory onstage. "Everybody wants to see the decay of the superstar. ... They want to see me fail. They want to see me fall onstage. They want to see me vomiting out of a nightclub. ... Isn't that the age we live in? That we want to see people who have it all lose it all?"

What are you expecting from Gaga's performance? Let us know in the comments!

The Grammys are going down Sunday night, but in the days beforehand, many of the stars up for hardware have been tweeting about their antics. Some missives were related to the big show, others were just in good, clean superstar fun.

Cee Lo, who is up for four mini gramophones — including Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Urban/Alternative Performance and Best Short Form Music Video — tweeted on Friday about getting a luxurious lift from one of his megastar pals in order to arrive at his destination in timely fashion.

"Yo yall might not believe me but steven Spielberg is letting my use his private jet to get to san diego on time!" the Lady Killer wrote. "Its nice to have friends."

Grammy newbie Justin Bieber, who is in the running for two awards, including the coveted Best New Artist trophy, is also spending the weekend celebrating the release of his documentary, "Justin Bieber: Never Say Never." The teen sensation also decided to add the element of surprise to his 3-D flick by dropping in on some lucky moviegoers.

"About to surprise another theatre with the crew!!" he wrote. "U support us so we support u. Thank U! Let's shock the world #NSN3D."

Indie darlings Arcade Fire also unleashed a surprise on their fans Friday night by playing a last-minute, 500-ticket secret show. The collective, which is up for trophies like Album of the Year and Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocals, worked well-worn hits and insta-classics and even got a legendary street artist to helm the wheels of steel, tweeting on Friday afternoon, "Shepard Fairey will be DJ'ing before set tonight in LA."

Rihanna, on the other hand, apparently spent her Saturday helming her own low-key shindig. The songstress, who will hit the stage and whose Eminem collabo "Love the Way You Lie" is vying for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration and Best Rap Song, replied to a fan who asked her what's up, saying that she's "just shakin my ass in the mirror." The singer also conceded to some pre-show jitters.

"I CAN'T STOP thinking about tomorrow!!!" she replied to another fan. "#AnxietyF--------!!!!!!!"

LOS ANGELES — With the 53rd annual Grammy Awards less than a day away, glossy industry parties have been underway as some of music's biggest names take over Los Angeles. And there's no better way to kick off the weekend than to sip on some mimosas and enjoy an early brunch with entertainment's biggest entrepreneur alongside fashion's leading luxury brand.

Held at the Soho House in West Hollywood, Roc Nation founder Jay-Z along with Gucci's creative director, Frida Giannini, joined forces Saturday afternoon (February 12) to host this year's pre-Grammy brunch, celebrating the art of music and the special-edition collection of Gucci Grammy watches and jewelry items.

"I was looking for a partner, a very strong one, the day before the Grammys," Giannini explained of her decision to pair up with this year's six-time Grammy nominee. "I think Jay-Z is the boss of this industry. He is a very iconic person, and I think he is the best. So as a designer, I always say I find an incredible inspiration coming from musicians who are in the music industry. Fashion and music, they have always been together because I think we are looking to musicians and musicians are looking to fashion."

Last November, Gucci Timepieces and Jewelry announced a three-year partnership with The Recording Academy inspired by the Grammy Awards. This new partnership is part of a celebration of Gucci's 90 -year history of the brand's commitment to the arts as well as to their most loyal clients — some of whom include artists and producers in the Roc Nation family.

"You can't put a real value on [fashion]," said hitmaker The-Dream, who is already a two-time Grammy winner. "It's so infused in our culture...you know, big ups to Gucci for supporting Roc Nation and Roc-A-Fella and the whole movement, because we used to have to fight for these things. We used to [not be able to] get sponsors, and now it's like almost automatic, you know, [that] it's gonna appear. So I'm pretty impressed."

As were all the other A-list celebrities invited, which included Grammy nominees, performers and presenters such as Rihanna, Kings of Leon and Sean Garrett, as well as actors Ryan Phillippe, Adrien Brody and Ellen Pompeo. As the stars casually arrived to the three-hour event, they were treated to food, beverages and tunes provided by DJs Mark Ronson, Samantha Ronson, Solange and D-Nice. While some dodged the red carpet before entering the venue, others were happy to take a moment to have their pictures taken in their finest attire and speak out about the legacy of fashion and art.

"As a celebrity, as an artist, fashion plays a very, very important part in your imaging and who you are as a person," Ne-Yo explained. "Everyone wants to dress like the hottest celebrity, so for them to line up with Gucci, which is one of those brands which is very versatile, they can be street and they can be dinner-party. They have all of that in their brand. So I think it's very important."

America has come down with a severe case of Bieber Fever, and stars Adam Sandler, Jennifer Aniston and Channing Tatum, among others, are left looking for a cure. The 3-D concert pic, "Justin Bieber: Never Say Never," topped all comers at the Friday box-office, pulling in $12.35 million from 3,105 screens to start the Valentine's Day weekend.

The performance film continues the music-themed genre's revitalization in recent years, following strong February openings for the similarly styled "Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience" in 2009 and "Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both World's Concert Tour" in 2008.

The flick's success could also be due in part to Bieber's insistence that the concert film/documentary is not just for his teen-girl fans, but will also entertain their guy friends.

"If I could say anything [to guys who think the movie is only for girls], I would say, like, just give it a chance," he told MTV News recently. "It's just a good movie. It has a good story line."

As far as moviegoers who haven't contracted Bieber Fever just yet, the teen sensation advised, "Even if you don't like my music or anything, just go. And take your girl."

In second place, the Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston-starring "Just Go with It" pulled $9.7 million from 3,548 screens. The latest in a string of man-child-grows-up flicks from Sandler, "Just Go with It" could still win the weekend with a high Saturday bounce.

New releases "Gnomeo and Juliet," starring the voices of James McAvoy and Emily Blunt, and "The Eagle" featuring Channing Tatum and Jamie Bell, followed in third and fourth place, respectively, with the former pulling in $6.1 million and the latter just $2.75 million.

Rounding out the top five, last week's winner, "The Roommate," managed just $2.6 million on Friday. The Leighton Meester-starring roommate romp brought its total up to $20.3 million in its second week of release.

Last week's second-place film, the James Cameron-endorsed "Sanctum," fell all the way to eighth place, scaring up $1.4 million on 3-D and IMAX screens.

Among the rest of the top ten, Oscar frontrunners "The King's Speech" (sixth place) and "True Grit" (ninth place) continued their impressive runs.

Check out everything we've got on "Justin Bieber: Never Say Never," "Just Go with It" and "Gnomeo and Juliet."

Will.i.am Says Artists Should Be 'Scared' Of iTunes

'Believe me, I love Apple ... but iTunes shouldn't be the answer,' MC says at Grammy Foundation event.
By Mawuse Ziegbe

Will.i.am is clearly tech-savvy — the MC was just named director of innovation at Intel — but the Black Eyed Peas frontman thinks artists' interest in technology shouldn't end with just releasing their tracks via an online retailer.

The rapper/producer recently chatted it up with attorneys and music industry insiders at the Grammy Foundation's annual Entertainment Law Initiative Luncheon in Los Angeles, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, will urged his fellow recording artists not to think of mega-successful e-retailer iTunes as a panacea for moving units.

"Believe me, I love Apple ... but iTunes shouldn't be the answer," will said, adding, "[For artists], it should be the scariest thing in the world."

The message may appear to be a bit harsh toward Steve Jobs' empire, but "The Time (Dirty Bit)" star ultimately maintained that aspiring artists should actively embrace technology as a means of enhancing their creative expression.

"We need to inspire kids to take notice of how and why a computer works," he said. "It's the marriage of art and science."

The BEP lyricist is already doing his part to conflate the tech and music worlds at his new post at Intel. When his partnership with the processing giant was announced, the star explained that he was looking forward to tinkering on game-changing projects.

"Nearly everything I do involves processors and computers, and when I see an Intel chip I think of all the creative minds involved that help to amplify my own creativity," Will said in a statement. "Teaming up with the scientists, researchers and computer programmers at Intel to collaborate and co-develop new ways to communicate, create, inform and entertain is going to be amazing."

Lil Wayne Relaunches Bruno Mars' 'Grenade'

Lil Wayne is back on his remix grind, and has tackled an explosive smash for his latest feature.

After switching up Wiz Khalifa's "Black and Yellow" last week for the Green Bay Packers anthem "Green and Yellow," the New Orleans lyricist recently tacked a verse onto Bruno Mars' torch jam "Grenade," lacing his bars with the same crazy-in-love proclamations as the Doo-Wops & Hooligans crooner.

"And I don't mind when we fall out/ Long as we fall back into it/ I hope we never put an end to it/ Even though you not that into it/ Heaven, have you ever been it? 'Cause it looks like you never been/ You're more like a Hell's Angel/ And for you I'd rather sin/ Broken heart/ Love you with a broken heart/ For you I'll jump off Noah's Ark/ Love is blind and hope is dark/ Why does pain feel so good? Love is science/ Live for you, die for you/ And I'll die smiling," Wayne spits, restraining his typically freewheeling flow in favor of a more plaintive delivery.

Lately, the MC has been revamping tried-and-true hits like "Grenade" and "Black and Yellow," but he's also contributed rhymes to some of his friend's spankin' new tracks like Travis Barker's "Can a Drummer Get Some?" MTV News caught with the rocker just days before the 2011 Grammys, which is fitting because the two chopped it up about teaming up in the studio when they hit the stage at last year's trophy handout. Barker dished that the track, which also features Rick Ross, Game and Swizz Beatz, was the first record he dreamed up for his solo album Give the Drummer Some.

"I painted that one up in my head — that's the first song I wrote for my album. I pieced that one together, I knew exactly how I wanted it," he explained. "I [had] played on something for Young Money — they wanted me to do a remix, and I was like, 'Cool.' I had seen Wayne in L.A., and I had talked to him about a verse, so [we were like] 'let's just do [an] even trade.' So, like a month later, I got my verse from Wayne. Man, everything he said, he just killed it. I would get mixtapes and I'd be listening to it in the car, like blaring it, and I'd hear him say my name or something, and I'd be like, 'Lil Wayne just said my name, this is a trip!' Because I'm a fan."

Trey Songz, Lloyd Melt Hearts In NYC: Six Sexy Moments

Headliner Trigger Trey kicked off his Love Faces mini-tour at Madison Square Garden on Friday night.
By Rebecca Thomas

NEW YORKTrey Songz bowed his Love Faces Tour on Friday night with a steamy, sold-out show in the Theater at Madison Square Garden. Lloyd, playing for the first time with a live band, warmed things up with an uptempo opening set. Whether you were cuffed up or on the prowl, it's hard to imagine there was a better way to kick off a heart-racing Valentine's Day weekend. Here, we re-live the evening's six sexiest moments.

Trey Twirls A Tender 'Roni'
Back in 1989, Virginia-born Tremaine Neverson was a 5-year-old army brat, still years from ascending the Billboard charts under the nom de stage Trey Songz. Instead, another crooner known for flashing his granite-hard abs was ruling the airwaves: Bobby Brown.

The ex-New Edition singer dropped the now-vintage video for "Roni" that year and it featured live-show footage of Brown — shirtless in silky "Hammer" pants and a heavy gold chain — going waist-to-gyrating-waist with a swooning concertgoer. ("I guess this is why I got arrested, hunh?" he jokes to the audience.)

On Friday, a woman named Simone became the envy of about 5,000 panting women as Songz, channeling the onetime King of R&B, pulled her from the crowd for an onstage dance to "Love Faces." He removed her coat. He caressed her. His lips brushed her neck. Hearts exploded.

Lloyd Lays it Down
"New York is the most magic city in the world, and ain't no girl like a New York girl," Lloyd told the crowd before launching into his smash "Lay It Down," the lead single from his March 22 LP, King of Hearts. The Polow Da Don-produced track may be one of the most flawlessly crafted pieces of bedroom music to be committed to MP3.

Just hours before Friday's show, MTV News asked Lloyd about the ecstatic, yodel-like vocal ad libs that form the song's collision. The Atlanta-based crooner joked that he'd tapped his inner Scotsman and recorded that section while wearing a kilt. Whether Scottish, Swiss, Alps or ATL in origin, the vocal trick sent his lady fans (already on their feet and singing every lyric) into fits.

Trey Covers '90s Boy Band Burners
Yes, fans were there to here Songz deliver catalog hits like "I Invented Sex" and "Neighbors Know My Name," but his covers of Boyz II Men's saccharine "I'll Make Love to You" and Jodeci's syrupy "Freek'N You" should be show staples.

Hometown MC Cameos
One of the perks of catching concerts at the World's Most Famous Arena is that artists who make their nests in one of New York's five boroughs occasionally pop up for surprise cameos. The inaugural show on the Love Faces mini-jaunt didn't disappoint as Lloyd Banks joined Lloyd mid-set and Fabolous hit the stage for the homey Trey Songz.

The G-Unit soldier trotted out his bouncy, Lloyd-featuring "Any Girl" before the New Orleans crooner fell back to play hype man as Banks ignited the crowd with the still-blazing "Beamer, Benz, or Bentley." Loso, in a complementary smoking jacket ("I see your swag is right," Trey smiled when the Brooklyn MC emerged onstage), ripped his "Say Aah" verse in a boozy knockout that was preceded by a thunderous rendition of "Bottoms Up."

Smoking Grooves
For the second half of his show, the man with the velvety vibrato donned a dark, velvet smoking jacket, after opening up in a white ensemble that recalled Sinatra in his heyday. Simply put, Trey Songz knows how to suit up. (They don't call him "Mr. Steal Your Girl" for nothing.)

Make 'Em Sweat
Any girl who's been on the receiving end of a stale Whitman's Sampler or a wilted delicatessen bouquet knows that real romance is about the details. And Trey Songz, the performer, has honed his eye for detail. "There's so much love right now everywhere I go," he told MTV News during an interview a day before the show. If it comes across at times that he's calculated the best moment to dab the perspiration from his forehead with a towel before tossing it into a squealing crowd, it's no less effective. And when he asks for the house lights to be turned up so he can shout out a few beaming fans individually. ("I see you baby in the pink T-shirt"), the cost of admission seems priceless.

'Die Hard 5' To Be Directed By Noam Murro

Commercial director slated to helm popular sequel, according to Deadline.
By Shawn Adler

Movement on "Die Hard 5" has just gotten another shot in the arm with news that commercial director Noam Murro will helm the popular series' fourth follow-up, according to Deadline. The announcement comes less than a day after it was revealed star Bruce Willis was personally vetting potential candidates.

The Israeli-born Murro, who counts the 2008 indie flick "Smart People" as his only feature credit, has been nominated five times by the Directors' Guild of America for his commercial work, and reportedly impressed Fox execs with his recent ads for the video game "Halo."

Although not yet officially signed on, Willis has been enthusiastically talking up the possibility of returning as the perpetually beleaguered, often hungover, sometimes foulmouthed John McClane since "Live Free or Die Hard" opened in 2007. After going from trapped in a building to trapped in an airport in the first two "Die Hard" installments, Willis told MTV News he's eager to continue the recent trend of expanding the series' canvas.

"Well it's got to go worldwide," Willis said. "That would be my contribution to [the next movie]."

Tentatively titled "Die Hard 24/7," the sequel was written by Skip Woods, who previously penned big budget actioners "The A-Team" and "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." According to a statement Willis made in October, the flick is expected to begin filming sometime in 2011.

Although Willis has starred in four "Die Hard" flicks, the Hollywood vet has said that bringing the laughs is much more important than lighting up the big screen.

"But I like so much more making fun of it, taking the piss out of it and not making it a big deal. Not making the fact that I've acted in a lot of movies a big deal," he said. " It's all illusion and it's all bulls--t and it's a great job for me to have, but everything else you can set on fire. Making people laugh is the real deal."

Britney Spears Is Ready To Work It In 'Hold It Against Me' Teaser

Britney Spears continues to tease fans with seconds-long previews of her forthcoming video "Hold It Against Me," and the offering on Saturday (February 12) was another lightning-quick snapshot of the vampy visual.

In the seven-second preview, a cache of professional studio lighting flashes on surrounding an empty, circular, milk-white platform. Suddenly, Britney appears on the platform amid the bevy of lights in red hot pants, heels and a white top, her blonde hair falling at her shoulders and her feet apart, looking ready to groove. A team of dancers in all-white ensembles flank the pop diva in a similar stance, and with a similar intensity, looking ready to rock it.

The entire video for Spears' Femme Fatale lead single will premiere on MTV on February 17 at 9:56 p.m. ET, just before a spankin' new episode of "Jersey Shore." The video will also simultaneously premiere on MTV.com. In addition to exciting fans with her quick video previews, the clip's choreographer, Brian Friedman, told MTV News that Spears is "definitely setting the bar" with "Hold It Against Me."

"She's showing that you have to push it as an artist: that you can't just settle, that you can't be calm with your choreography, that you have to make a statement," he explained. "There's so many people out there competing in this world to be the queen of pop, and she's definitely claiming her throne."

Friedman also added that even with a slew of memorable videos under her belt, the megastar is still trying to push the envelope with her latest visual.

"Artistically, this video I think surpasses a lot of her other videos," he teased. "So many of her videos are iconic, though. You look at 'Toxic' and you look at 'Slave,' even 'Oops ... I Did It Again': People are gonna remember those videos forever. [In] '... Baby One More Time,' she made school-girl outfits relevant and so popular. This video is artistically a masterpiece, and I don't think that Britney has pushed the envelope in this way ever in any of her videos."

What do you think the rest of Britney's video will look like? Sound off in the comments!

Arcade Fire Throw An Anti-Grammy Party At Secret Show

The Grammy-nominated indie rockers announced details of the Los Angeles theater show just 12 hours before taking the stage.

LOS ANGELES — It wasn't the Grammys, and it wasn't supposed to be.

On Friday night, far away from the machinations of the music industry and the glad-handling of golden gramophones, in a grand old theater that now doubles as the Ukrainian Culture Center of Greater Los Angeles, Arcade Fire — the indie band who, at Sunday's 53rd Grammy Awards, will face off against the likes of Eminem and Lady Gaga for Album of the Year — threw what will probably go down as the week's greatest un-official, anti-Grammy pre-party: a sweaty, exuberant, all-ages secret show that felt about a million miles removed from the award-show hysteria that has descended on much of the city.

Only 500 tickets were sold, in a first-come, first-serve basis at three locations (a pair of record stores and the venerable El Rey Theatre) on Friday afternoon. There was no red carpet outside or a VIP area inside, just the still-elaborate eaves of an 86-year-old building now crumbling away on a decidedly gritty stretch of Melrose Avenue. The band gave away "free drinks and cotton candy" before the show even began.

It was, in short, an anti-industry affair in all conceivable ways, and Arcade Fire savored every second of it.

As the strains of Julie Andrews' "Lusty Month of May" crackled over the speakers, the Canadian band's members took to the tiny stage, grinned and then, appropriately enough, blasted headlong into "Month of May," from their Grammy-nominated The Suburbs, with frontman Win Butler cocking his head and jutting his guitar out into the crowd — who, being so close, gladly reached out and grabbed it. Given that they were playing at full strength — eight in all, sawing and hammering away on a menagerie of violins and keyboards and drums and guitars — and that, for much of the past decade, they've been tailoring their sonics to massive festival crowds and cavernous indoor spaces, the sound they produced in this little theater was enormous; it washed over the audience, all the way to the back of the building, and then up to the arched ceilings. And that only added to the euphoria.

Because there truly is something to be said about seeing a band this big in a venue this small. Already-massive songs like "Rebellion (Lies)" and "Neighborhood #2 (Laika)" became even larger, the bass rumbled and the strings stabbed, the chanted vocals of Régine Chassagne and Richard Reed Parry broke through and grabbed at you. At one point, even Butler noticed, because he proudly proclaimed this to be the most out-of-control show ever," and then tore the roof off the place with a thunderous take on "No Cars Go," which saw the band going six-wide on vocal harmonies.

They added extra oomph to songs both old ("In the Backseat," which slowly, gloriously hemorrhaged to a close; "Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)," which fell and then rose again on Butler's wiry guitar work) and new (an elastic take on "We Used To Wait," all handclaps and crescendos; a muscled, loose run through "Ready to Start") and played the rest with their trademarked madcap abandon which, given the size of the room, only appeared more madcap. And that intimacy was the key, whether it was when Butler waded out into the crowd during the encore or when he looked out into the outstretched hands, sighed, and said, "We can't tell you how good for the spirit it is to play a small show like this."

And he meant it. But it was equally beneficial to have witnessed it. This was the kind of show where dudes call up their friends and just hold the phone up in the air — a "You've got to be here! I can't believe you missed it!" type of thing. An outsider band somehow thrust into the mainstream, and rebelling against it the only way they know how: by playing long and loud, by shouting and sweating, and by wearing their hearts on their sleeves (this was, certainly, the only Grammy event in which the entertainment urged the Haitian government to sue the f---ing sh-- out of deposed dictator Jean-Claude Duvalier).

So perhaps it was only fitting that, during their final song — The Suburbs' "Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)" — Butler asked to have all the lights in the venue be turned off. After all, the Grammys are all about hogging the spotlight. Arcade Fire finished their set in the dark.

Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson Top Grammy Performer Poll

Posted: 12 Feb 2011 05:02 AM PST

Fans can't wait for their Aretha Franklin tribute, with Lady Gaga and Eminem's performances the next most anticipated.
By Kyle Anderson

The 53rd annual Grammy Awards are almost here, and while the hardware tends to be the main event, the roster of performers is one of the most star-studded and high-profile in the show's history. Eminem, Dr. Dre, Cee Lo Green, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Drake, Arcade Fire, Justin Bieber, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, Katy Perry, Muse, B.o.B, Usher, Bob Dylan and Bruno Mars are among the heavy hitters who will be taking the stage Sunday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

But which performance is creating the most buzz among fans tuning in to watch the show? Earlier this week, the MTV Newsroom blog posed just such a question, and the results are now in.

As soon as voting began, the competition became a war of attrition between supporters of Lady Gaga and hard-core devotees of Eminem. But once the producers announced that there would be a tribute to Aretha Franklin led by Christina Aguilera and Jennifer Hudson, the competition suddenly morphed into a three-way dance.

After hundreds of thousands of votes were cast, the Aretha Franklin tribute (also featuring Florence Welch, Martina McBride and Yolanda Adams) finished in first place with 45 percent of the total vote. It's a pretty impressive finish, especially considering that the performance wasn't announced until after voting began.

Lady Gaga ended up in second place with 23 percent, with Eminem just behind her with 20 percent. Perhaps fueled by the buzz over the release of "Never Say Never," Justin Bieber made a late run and managed to cobble together 9 percent. Katy Perry was the only other Grammy performer to pick up more than a single percentage point, and poor Miranda Lambert ended up bringing up the rear.

All of Sunday night's Grammy performances promise to be electric, but fans can barely contain themselves for Christina Aguilera, Lady Gaga and Eminem.

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, California — On Friday, with the 53rd Grammy Awards less than 48 hours away, Travis Barker invited MTV News up to his studio to play us a handful of tracks from his long-delayed though finally completed solo album, Give the Drummer Some, which hits stores on March 15. Judging from what we heard, there's no shortage of hard-hitting, genre-blurring jams on the record, though a standout is "Can a Drummer Get Some?" The track, which is the album's proper first single, features verses from Rick Ross, Game, Swizz Beatz and, of course, Lil Wayne.

The Blink-182 stickman let it slip that he's planning on filming a video for the song with all the talent present as early as next week. And it's fitting that, on practically the eve of the Grammys, he's talking about the song because, in a lot of ways, its roots stretch all the way back to last year's Grammy telecast, when Barker joined Weezy, Eminem and Drake onstage for a performance of "Forever"

"At the Grammys, we were at soundcheck, we were messing around before we even bust into the song," Barker recalled. "Freestyling, just busting beats, it's always a good time."

And that crackling, live energy is more than present on "Can a Drummer," a song that Barker is deeply attached to for a lot of reasons.

And as a fan, Barker is a lot like the rest of us. He's eternally marveling at how far Wayne has come — a voyage that started more than 10 years ago, continued though their 2010 Grammy performance and now is featured prominently on "Can a Drummer Get Some?"

"I love what Wayne's done, how he's progressed," Barker laughed. "I remember, it must've been 1999 or 2000, and we're in Las Vegas, at the Joint, and Cash Money is performing, and Blink's performing — so it's just a trip because I grew up on him too. I saw him go from that through his whole career, all his albums -- it's just crazy."
