Last year, Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi had the opportunity to interview everyone from Katy Perry to Miley Cyrus, Fergie and Justin Bieber at the Grammy Awards, bringing her over-the-top personality to the red carpet. Well, this year she's back and ready to once again set the Grammys on fire.

The "Jersey Shore" star is set to return as one of MTV News' Grammy red-carpet correspondents, getting all the dish from some of the world's biggest names in music. And for the first time, she and co-host Sway will anchor "Snooki & Sway: Live From the Grammys" from the event. The show will be live-streamed on MTV.com for two hours (6-8 p.m. ET), with the pair talking to all the night's big attendees, presenters and performers.

So, who does Snooki want to meet this year? "I'm very excited to see Bruno Mars," she told MTV News. "Lady Gaga, Drake, Nicki Minaj, like all the top artists are my favorite, so hopefully I'll get to interview all of them."

With some experience under her belt, Snooki plans to use the skills she's acquired since last year to step up her interviewing game. "I did do the interviews with the Grammys last year, and I really had no idea what was going on," she admitted. "This was all new to me. So now, being in it for a year, I know what to expect. And I'm gonna study a little more [about] what people are up for and who they are. I'm not gonna be like, 'Yo, Kings of Leon, who are you?' That's what I did last year! So I'm definitely gonna study up more."

Are you looking forward to Snooki co-hosting the Grammy red-carpet show with Sway on Sunday? Tell us in the comments!

'American Idol' Hollywood Week Could Be End For Season 10 Early Faves

Will Chris Medina, Lauren Alaina and others make it past the grueling round starting Thursday night?

It always feels like the "American Idol" audition rounds go on forever. But, miraculously, they're already over, and Thursday night's (February 10) show will give us our first glimpse of the dreaded Hollywood Week.

We've already had some serious ups and downs so far this season, with the joy of new judge Steven Tyler's unpredictable, wacky personality and winning charm, the seeming bumper crop of stellar talent in Austin and New Jersey, the washout in Los Angeles and a few 15-year-olds who seemed to suggest the lowering of the age limit was a good idea after all.

We won't know until Thursday night which singers were able to keep it together in Los Angeles, but there are a number of promising candidates who seem like they may sail through the next round.

The first night in New Jersey introduced us to the hard-luck Bronx tale of Travis Orlando and Staten Island doo-wop girl Brielle Von Hugel. On the next night in New Orleans, we got jazzy Jordan Dorsey, J.Lo fanatic Jovany Barreto and lovable social outcast Brett Loewenstern. That show also gave us one of our first promising youngsters, 15-year-old Lafayette native Jaycee Badeaux, who killed it with an Otis Redding tune.

Milwaukee served up its share of corkers as well, from 16-year-old country crooner Scotty McCreery to soul sister Naima Adedapo, bar mitzvah singer Jerome Bell and Thia Megia, another stellar 15-year-old. It also yielded one of the season's most emotional stories in Chris Medina, who was trying out in honor of his fiancée, who had been horribly hurt in a car accident.

Producers found what some said was a potential winner in Nashville in the guise of yet another young'un, Lauren Alaina, 15, where they also spotted talented exes Rob Bolin and Chelsee Oaks and country crooner Matt Dillard.

Austin, Texas, was also good to "Idol," bringing out cowboy John Wayne Schulz, country pin-up Shauntel Campos and power couple Jacqueline Dunford and Nick Fink.

But things went a bit wobbly in Los Angeles last week, where the talent pool appeared to have been drained and the only potential top 40ers were brothers Mark and Aaron Gutierrez and MySpace auditioner Karen Rodriguez.

It all came to a dramatic conclusion in San Francisco on Wednesday night, where we met hard-luck 21-year-old dad James Durbin, who killed it with his Adam Lambert-esque wail, as well as comely Colombian expat Julie Zorrilla and car-crash survivor Stefano Langone. It was a fitting conclusion to an audition round that produced way more promising talent than we're used to — which is a good thing.

Now, we have no idea how anyone does in the Hollywood, but those pesky "Idol" spoiler sites have already posted the alleged top 40, which includes a number of the early favorites. Among the names that keep popping up as potential next rounders are: Loewenstern, Medina, Badeaux, Bell, Schulz, McCreery, Jackie Wilson, Seth Rogen lookalike Casey Abrams, Adedapo and Megia, as well as Alaina.

Who's going to make it and who will burn out? Will the pressure of Hollywood get to the younger contestants? Can the exes, couples and siblings move forward? We don't know yet, but we can't wait to find out.

Which contestant do you hope excels during Hollywood Week? Let us know in the comments!

Grammy Awards Fashion: The Best, Worst And Gaga

Posted: 10 Feb 2011 04:02 AM PST

We flip through some memorable looks before Sunday's show, from glamorous Katy Perry to Rasta-inspired Christina Aguilera.
By Jocelyn Vena

The Grammy Awards are nothing like the Oscars when it comes to fashion. The approach is less about what's trendy or appropriate and more about a star's own personal style. And that means there are always hits but many times there are misses and then, too, as we've learned, there's the Gaga, who can't be defined as good, bad or otherwise.

So with the Grammy red carpet set to kick off Sunday night, MTV News takes a look back on the best and worst of Grammy fashion.

The Best
Keri Hilson brought the glamour last year in a nude-colored fishtail Dolce & Gabbana gown that showed off the singer's feminine side — and her edgy one — thanks to a beaded belt around her waist.

In 2009, Katy Perry was equally ladylike in a baby pink Basil Soda gown. The strapless dress fit the star perfectly and the fan-like detail at the waist kicked the dress up about 10 notches.

Gwen Stefani was transitioning from punk queen to fashion icon in 2001. She hit the carpet that year in a red, '50s-inspired gown that was incredibly elegant with its saturated red color and simple hemline embellishment.

Pink donned a grey-and-black gown that added sophistication to Pink's edgy tats and hair, and certainly showed that Pink can be as soft as she is hard.

Christina Aguilera's dramatic red-carpet looks can sometimes appear a bit harsh on camera, but when she opted for a pink strapless gown in 2007, she emitted elegance and grace. She accessorized the dress with lots of bling and soft curls.

The Worst
Paula Abdul's bright yellow, pleated gown, complete with gladiator-like metal details in 2009 was over the top. Her stiff, beehive hairdo managed to make the already overdone look even worse.

Beyoncé channeled Cinderella for the 2008 Grammys but the dress overtook her. The baby blue color might have been a nice pick if not for the silver sequins and the heavy tulle skirt.

Jennifer Lopez made headlines in 2000 with a buzzed-about Versace dress that redefined red-carpet style, but 10 years later she looked like she was trying to reclaim that magic in her half-gown, half-mini dress. (Spoiler alert: The magic was not reclaimed.)

Between the Rasta-like braids and the plunging neckline, Christina Aguilera looked like she was ready for the beach and not the red carpet in 2001 in her hot pink gown. What was meant to be formal wear looked more like a beach cover-up.

Like Christina in 2001, Sheryl Crow also tried out a lace-up, plunging neckline the following year. Her romper (yes, romper) was accessorized with matching cowboy boots, a full-length suede jacket and sunglasses.

The Indefinable
Lady Gaga hit the 2010 Grammy red carpet in a lavender-and-nude Armani Privé design. It couldn't be defined as a piece of clothing; more like a walking art piece that had the superstar channeling some kind of space creature.

Share your favorite (and least favorite) Grammy red carpet looks with us in the comments below!

'American Idol' Finds Golden Girls In San Francisco

Final audition night has lots of strong female contestants and one standout male in James Durbin.
By Gil Kaufman

The "American Idol" train pulled into San Francisco on Wednesday night (February 9) for its final shot at discovering a diamond in the rough in the same city where the show found Adam Lambert two years ago. And, wouldn't you know it, they found the man who just might prove to be the straight-young-dad version of Lambert in James Durbin, along with a gang of really strong female contenders.

Ukrainian singer and sexy video vixen Inessa Lee, 22, was not one of them, though. She seemed more primed for next American, um, adult entertainer, with her belly dancing, yoga poses and an especially wobbly "All Out of Love" by Air Supply. Steven Tyler was charmed, but even her Betty Boop voice and their shared Eastern European ancestry wasn't enough to punch a ticket to Hollywood. "Cute, you get 110 percent; but singing ... eesh," Tyler said.

Duffy has been good to a number of auditioners this year, and a song by the Brit did the trick again for raven-haired Tucson, Arizona, dance-studio manager Brittany Mazur, 21, as well, who brought a smile to the panel's faces with her rich, soulful voice. There were also unanimous yeses for jazzy Lara Johnston and sensitive brawny belter Matthew Nuss, whom Tyler dubbed a "diamond in the rough."

Stefano Langone had one of those stories "Idol" cannot resist. The unemployed 21-year-old was told he'd never walk again after a horrible car crash, but he rallied and brought his positive energy to Marvin Gaye's "I Heard It Through the Grapevine," nailing his audition thanks to some powerful, if a bit nasally, vocals. "Nice voice, dude, got a little 'hood up in there ... I like that," Randy Jackson said, praising Langone's streetwise phrasing. Jennifer Lopez had props for his matinee-idol looks and star quality too.

Big round glasses and LBC attitude got karaoke host Clint Jun Gamboa some attention in the audition room, but it was his high-and-tight, gospel&B-flavored cover of Travie McCoy's "Billionaire" that put him through. "The notes and the way you sang that song was brilliant," Tyler said, with Jackson calling Gamboa one of the best auditions of the San Francisco trip.

The night's signature wackadoodle was unemployed El Paso, Texas, clown Kenneth Berba, who ran into the room wearing a homemade lion outfit that earned him an immediate no. That, of course, set up the obligatory horrible-singer montage, highlighted by a maniac in an incredibly detailed homemade Transformer costume that blew the judges away more than his silly try at "Born to be Wild."

Not easily impressed by other people's footwear, Lopez loved Julie Zorrilla's golden shoes. The 20-year-old student comes from a well-heeled family that left Colombia to escape shakedowns from the nation's guerrilla fighters in the 1990s, and her brilliant smile and upbeat attitude was almost as engaging as her emotionally rich cover of the "Idol" staple "Summertime." Breathy and leisurely, Zorrilla put plenty of attitude into her take on the "Porgy and Bess" classic.

"Fabulous, beautiful, great range," Tyler told the alluring beauty. "And great star quality." Lopez appreciated her confidence, and Jackson liked how she switched up the arrangement.

We've had precious few rockers so far this season, and it seemed like long and curly-haired blond belter Dave Combs, 25, might have the stuff. His rough-and-tumble attempt at the Beatles' "Oh! Darling" just didn't do it for Tyler (wearing a Beatles T-shirt, no less), who just seemed annoyed at how off the melodic mark Combs was. He was the first of a string of fellas who blew it and got harsh rebukes from the Aerosmith singer.

A week after her house burned down, strawberry-haired free-spirit barista Emily Anne Reed, 26, proved to be plenty cute and fun to look at, but her falsetto attempt at Harry Warren's jazz tune "You're Getting to Be a Habit With Me" split the judges. Lopez loved her unique, high and squeaky tone, but Tyler thought the melody left a lot to be desired. Randy disagreed and complimented the unusual tone, which left it up to Lopez, who agreed to give Reed one more shot.

The producers saved a doozy for the final audition spot. The hard-knock story told by James Durbin, 21, was almost too much to believe. He grew up barely knowing his bass-playing dad, who was always on the road, and was raised by his mom after his father died of a drug overdose. Later diagnosed with both Tourette syndrome and Asperger's syndrome, a high-functioning form of autism, Durbin turned to music to help calm his sometimes-rattled nerves.

The unemployed young father with the faux-hawk had everything to prove to the panel, and he immediately grabbed their ears with a wailing, Lambert-esque moon-shot take on Led Zeppelin's "You Shook Me." And, in what will likely be another boost to Aerosmith catalog sales, he asked if he could give "Dream On" a shot as well.

Tyler dug it, shaking his head along, his eyes closed as he took in Durbin's booming, emotion-laden voice. "I like you, I like your voice, my god, what a range," Randy said. "Wow, that was over the top, wow, that was so, so good," Tyler added. "You sing from where you're supposed to sing from, from feeling, from heart, from our soul, from the need to feel and make others feel," Lopez gushed.

And so it goes. Next stop, Hollywood Week, which kicks off Thursday night, promising much more elation, heartbreak and stress-induced meltdowns.

Lil Wayne's 'Green And Yellow' Is 'Wild,' Wiz Khalifa Says

'Just seeing that he even heard the song, A, and then knew how to rap to it,' the 'Black and Yellow' MC tells MTV News.

Super Bowl XLV might not have panned out quite like Pittsburgh MC Wiz Khalifa would have wanted, since his beloved Steelers get edged out by the Green Bay Packers. But still, there was an upside for Wiz — namely, hearing Lil Wayne take on his Steelers anthem "Black and Yellow" with his own remix, the aptly titled "Green and Yellow."

When MTV News caught up with Wiz on the set of his "Roll Up" music video in Venice, California, we had to ask what he thought about Weezy's remix.

"I actually thought it was real cool when he did his version," Wiz said. "Just seeing that he even heard the song, A, and then knew how to rap to it. Not saying that he wouldn't, but it was kind of wild, like, hearing Wayne flip how I rap, 'cause that's Lil Wayne. But it was cool."

It's a great compliment to the momentum Wiz has built in the last year. First, he was named MTV News' 2010 Hottest Breakthrough MC, then he signed to Atlantic Records and teamed up with Snoop Dogg for the official "Black and Yellow" remix, and now he's gearing up for the release of his debut, Rolling Papers, next month.

And even though the Steelers lost, Wiz was in characteristically good spirits about the whole situation.

"My reaction to Sunday is just like, we'll get 'em next time," the mellow MC said. "We've been to plenty of Super Bowls. It won't be the last one, and it was kind of a bummer just losing. But we had a great season and a lot of momentum just going into it, so I think that just had everybody boosted anyway. There was a lot of attention on Pittsburgh."

Florence and the Machine, Mumford & Sons and Esperanza Spalding are also in the running at Sunday's show.

Every year, a new crop of up-and-comers duke it out for the Best New Artist prize at the Grammys. Before the big show kicks off Sunday night, get to know each of the nominees in the coveted category.

Justin Bieber
In 2010, Bieber presented at the Grammy Awards, and now he returns this year as a two-time nominee and performer. He released two albums last year; hit the road, selling out venues at every stop; and managed to not only become the teenage dream, but also find creditability in the world of hip-hop, thanks to collabos with MCs like Ludacris and Kanye West.

Drake
Drake quickly emerged in 2010 as the go-to MC for hip-hop heads and teenyboppers. He asked fans to Thank Me Later on his debut album, on which he rapped about girls, fame and himself. Drake showed that he had some street cred and a lot of heart on the album.

Florence and the Machine
Florence Welch emerged as rock newcomer of the year with her inescapable hit "Dog Days Are Over." The flame-haired songstress belted out tunes that had fans worshipping at her musical temple, especially after her electric performance at the Video Music Awards. Her 2009 album, Lungs, proved to have some legs when "Dog Days Are Over" took Hollywood by storm and also top 40 stations.

Mumford & Sons
Their album Sigh No More (released in 2009) flew under the radar for some time, before their Grammy-nominated song "Little Lion Man" launched them into the mainstream last year. In addition to the Best New Artist nod, the tune is also up for Best Rock Song, thanks to the English group's sparse, folky approach to making music.

Esperanza Spalding
Like Mumford & Sons, Spalding has been releasing music for years. In 2010, Prince announced she'd be one of the many artists hitting the road with him for a leg of the Welcome 2 America Tour. Now, she's poised to reach even more audiences thanks to the Grammy nod.

Who do you think will win Best New Artist on Sunday? Tell us in the comments!

Lil Wayne's '6 Foot 7 Foot' Video Premiere Postponed

Finishing touches are still being put on the clip, which was set to debut Thursday on MTV.

Lil Wayne was set to premiere the video for "6 Foot 7 Foot" on MTV this Thursday at 8 p.m. ET during the special presentation "MTV First: Lil Wayne," but the highly anticipated debut has been postponed as the finishing touches are being put on the video. To tide you over until the premiere, however, here's a little more from Wayne about how the track came together.

The song is the lead single from Weezy's forthcoming album, Tha Carter IV, the Cash Money Records superstar's first project since his release from prison in November. The rollicking track was produced by Bangladesh, who helmed Wayne's "A Milli" and features the newest Young Money addition Cory Gunz.

The upstart rapper is the progeny of veteran New York rapper Peter Gunz ("Deja Vu") and an alumnus of XXL's noted Freshmen 10 cover in 2009. According to Wayne, he placed Gunz on "6 Foot 7 Foot" to introduce his recent signee since he knew how much attention would be given to his first track. He characterized the strategy as a similar path he took with Drake and Nicki Minaj.

"You know, I put Nicki on the right songs, I put Drake on the right songs; I picked the right song," Wayne told MTV News. "It makes people pay attention ... because I know that people were waiting to see what I'll say on my first record, my first Lil Wayne record [since getting out of prison]. 'Cause, of course, I've done a bunch of features, and I'm quite sure whoever I did a feature for [before], as soon as I came home they put it out 'cause it got Wayne on here. 'He just came home, let's put it out.' So, I knew people were going to look at my first record like, 'I want to know what he's talking about on his first record.' And, I gave you the jewel at the end. It's like I'm forcing it on you, you got to hear this. It made everybody who didn't know Cory Gunz [say], 'Who is that?' "

Gunz, for his part, said when he got the call to join the track, Weezy gave him one simple edict: Attack.

"We went straight to the studio and Tunes [told me], 'I have something for you to hear,' and it went from there," Cory told MTV News in December. "[Wayne said], 'We gon' have to attack this.' As soon as I heard it, it was like instant. Some beats you hear [or] certain songs you hear in a party ... and they hit you in a certain kind of way, and that's kinda what the beat did. So we sat and the record is now getting an amazing response. People been messing with the record, so it's dope. I'm happy to be here."

No timetable has been set for the release of the "6 Foot 7 Foot" video, but we will bring you that info as soon as it is available.

James Durbin's 'American Idol' Audition Recalls Adam Lambert

Posted: 09 Feb 2011 07:13 AM PST

While both singers can wail, Durbin is more gritty than glam.
By Adam Graham

James Durbin auditions on "American Idol"

"American Idol" loves it when contestants come to them with a backstory, and they got a whopper of one on Wednesday (February 9) with James Durbin.

The 21-year-old from Santa Cruz, California, explained that not only is he an unemployed father with a young child at home, but he was diagnosed with Tourette and Asperger's syndromes after his musician father died of a drug overdose when he was 9 years old. He was bullied and made fun of at school and described himself as "lost," until he met his wife, Heidi, whom he called an "angel" and who leaves him mini-messages of encouragement around the house ("I believe in my music," "I believe in my gift," etc.).

Durbin has a propensity for crying — he welled up several times when telling his story — and was worried about keeping his emotions in check when going in front of the judges at the San Francisco auditions. "I'm gonna have to keep calm and keep still and keep my mind on what I'm here to do," he said. "And what I'm here to do is to show America who James Durbin is."

He then managed to blow away the judges with a take on Muddy Waters' early '60s blues single "You Shook Me," which was later made famous by Led Zeppelin. The slender-framed Durbin's powerful, bombastic vocals and outstanding range immediately brought to mind season-eight belter Adam Lambert, though Durbin leaned toward gritty where Lambert was glam.

Durbin then asked Steven Tyler's permission to test drive "Dream On," which he performed in front of the Aerosmith frontman while wiping away tears. Tyler closed his eyes and took it in, audibly approving of Durbin a number of times and later exclaiming his "over-the-top" vocals were "so, so good."

Randy Jackson praised Durbin's range, describing it as "crazy" no less than three times. "And that's full voice, that's not falsetto or anything," he raved.

Jennifer Lopez was taken aback by the passion and raw emotion in Durbin's voice, noting, "You sing from a very different place than a lot of the people we see. You sing from where you're supposed to sing from: from feeling, from heart, from your soul. From the need to feel and make others feel."

"That's what my goal is; that's all I wanna do," Durbin said. And with three "yes" votes and a ticket to Hollywood, he's on his way.

Insiders say the couple have 'just grown apart.'

Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz's split may seem shocking to fans, but insiders close to the pair say there's little drama behind the scenes.

According to People, sources close to Simpson and Wentz have said the pop star and Fall Out Boy rocker aren't mixing any emotional theatrics into their impending divorce. One person connected to the situation said the pair are riding out the breakup peacefully.

Check out photos of the ex-couple throughout the years.

"It's very amicable. They're on very friendly terms and speaking — it's fine," an insider said. "They've just grown apart. They've been growing apart for quite some time."

The source added that parenting their toddler remains their top priority. "It's all about [their 2-year-old son] Bronx for them. They're fantastic parents — Pete says she's a great mom, and she says he's a great father," the insider said. "It's about Bronx's care and well-being and happiness for them."

Insiders have also echoed the "growing apart" reasoning to TMZ, adding that their respective careers — Simpson has largely eschewed the spotlight since 2008's Bittersweet World, while Wentz has dabbled in fashion and piloted other musical projects — wedged them apart.

"After Bronx was born, Ashlee made a conscious decision to get out of the business, but Pete's heart was in music so he kept touring and that became a big issue in their relationship."

While insiders have maintained the split is drama-free, TMZ reports that Simpson left due to Wentz's antics. "It's really all about Pete's erratic behavior," the source said. "She really wanted out."

Publicly, the couple have been big on e-affection, gushing about each other on Twitter as recently as two days ago. "Dont forget 2 notice-when i look into the lil dudes eyes & smile, the way he loves. i realize @ashsimpsonwentz is a good moma + so much more," Wentz tweeted Monday.

Just last month Simpson doled out a sweet missive to her husband. "@petewentz I already miss your handsome face!" she wrote on January 19.

Britney Spears' 'Hold It Against Me' Clips Earn Her A Spot In Promotional History

Kanye West, Radiohead, 'Iamamiwhoami' also used memorable promos.

Last week, Britney Spears sent fans into a tizzy when she began rolling out all-too-brief teaser clips for her upcoming "Hold It Against Me" video, which premieres February 17 at 9:56 p.m. on MTV. And while the snippets are certainly tantalizing — Britney onstage! Britney with some shirtless dudes! — they're also rather brilliant: the truest example to date of Britney and her team harnessing the promotional power of social media and riding it for all it's worth.

Though promo stunts have become rather commonplace in recent years — it seems like every new album comes pre-loaded with some sort of viral campaign or marketing tie-in — the good ones (like Spears') manage to rise above the clutter. In honor of Britney, here's a look back at some of the most memorable promotional efforts in recent music history.

Korn fly the friendly skies: In 2005, to promote the release of See You on the Other Side, Korn rounded up a bunch of contest winners, boarded a private jet from London and performed a five-song set at 37,000 feet. The end result wasn't exactly pretty — the band were crowded together in the cabin and forced to use battery-powered amps ("Hey, everybody, don't expect too much," then-drummer David Silveria announced over the in-flight P.A. system, " 'Cause this sh--'s kinda f---ed up in here") — but it certainly was memorable. See You on the Other Side debuted at #3 on the Billboard albums chart and was certified as platinum.

Fall Out Boy go to Infinity and beyond: To celebrate the release of their 2007 album Infinity On High, Fall Out Boy decided to cross the continent aboard a private jet (dubbed Infinity Flight 206) and play free shows in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. Despite battling severe weather and some serious jet lag, the whole stunt went off without a hitch, climaxing with a gig atop a building in downtown LA. In the end, all their hard work paid off: Infinity bowed at #1 on the Billboard chart, giving the band its first chart-topping debut.

Nine Inch Nails go deep for Year Zero: At the time, it was simply an engrossing viral campaign for Trent Reznor's upcoming record. But now, nearly four years since Reznor foisted Year Zero upon us, it's not a stretch to call it the greatest viral campaign for an album: an expertly planned, deeply engrossing, downright-disturbing blitz that used Web sites, secret codes and "accidentally" lost flash drives to transport fans to a not-too-distant future. In the weeks leading up to the release of Year Zero, the game crossed over to the real world, as players were instructed to meet on a street corner in Los Angeles, where they were given "resistance kits" — some of which contained cell phones that would randomly ring with further instructions. Though the album didn't sell particularly well, Reznor was reportedly so enthralled with the Year Zero campaign that he's considering turning it into a TV series, with HBO and BBC both attached.

Prince really wants to give it to you: Ever since he changed his name to an unpronounceable symbol and began warring with his record label in the early '90s, Prince has sort of been the (very funky) grandfather of, uh, unique promotional stunts. In 2004, he gave away copies of his Musicology album to everyone who bought a concert ticket for his tour — a move which forced SoundScan to change the way it counted album sales — and then, in '07, he partnered with the U.K.'s Mail on Sunday newspaper to have a copy of his Planet Earth album included with the July 15 edition of the paper. That move angered his label, Sony BMG, who refused to distribute the album in the U.K. — though that most likely didn't bother the Purple One.

Radiohead give away In Rainbows for free: In October 2007, without so much as a warning, Radiohead announced that they were releasing a new album called In Rainbows, and that they'd allow fans to pay whatever they wanted to download it. They weren't the first band to do it — earlier that year, Canadian act Stars made their In Our Bedroom, After The War available for free download — and they certainly weren't the last, but Radiohead were definitely the biggest band to give away an album for free. Predictably, fans went nuts, but not so predictably, the physical version of In Rainbows also managed to sell well, going to #1 on the charts.

Iamamiwhoami mystifies, terrifies: It all started with one video — a spooky, ooky clip featuring plenty of trees and grisly footage of a goat being born — in December 2010, and things got progressively weirder from there. The videos kept coming, getting increasingly longer (and more terrifying), as the Internet paused and tried to figure out just who was behind the "Iamamiwhoami" campaign. Everyone from Lady Gaga to Christina Aguilera was suspected, but with each passing video — and mysterious package sent to the MTV newsroom — it became clear that neither Gaga or Xtina was behind the thing. In the end — or, at least, we think it's the end (since the campaign is still sort of happening) — it was revealed that Swedish singer Jonna Lee was responsible. We're still confused.

Josh Freese takes things to the next level — and then some: To promote the release of his solo album, Since 1972, Vandals/A Perfect Circle/Devo drummer/session dude to the stars Josh Freese got creative, unveiling a rather, uh, involved pricing scheme that started at $7 (for a download plus three videos) and going all the way to $75,000 (for a super-deluxe edition including dinner, drum lessons and foot massages, plus a five-song EP written about your life, a drinking session, a trip with Freese to Tijuana, a flying-trapeze lesson and a homemade lasagna). Here's one Freese fan's account of his experience, which included dinner, drinks, a Vandals show and a barbecue pool party — a total steal at just $1,000.

Kanye West launches G.O.O.D. Fridays: In the lead-up to his My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Kanye West was reportedly having a difficult time whittling down the list of potential songs ... so, he decided to just give some of them away for free. Beginning in August 2010, he launched his "G.O.O.D. Fridays" initiative, which gave fans a new song every week until Christmas. Some of the gems he cast aside even featured the likes of Jay-Z, Common, Mos Def, John Legend, Nicki Minaj and Keri Hilson — but Yeezy didn't seem to mind. So long as folks weren't leaking his tracks, that is.

Like mentor, like protégé.

Nicki Minaj joined her boss Lil Wayne as the only two artists in recent history to have their album land at #1 on the Billboard 200 after debuting lower on the chart; the project also crossed the 1 million-units-sold mark this week.

The Queens rapper's Pink Friday ascended to #1 on Wednesday (February 9) in its 11th week, besting debuts by Ricky Martin and rock outfit Red and a surge in sales for Rihanna's Loud.

"We finally did it! PINK FRIDAY is the #1 Album in the United States of America!!!!! *faints* thank u sooooo much for the continued support," Nicki tweeted.

The Young Money artist's feat is a rare achievement, according to Billboard.com. Last year, 30 albums topped the Billboard 200 chart, but only one — Lil Wayne's I Am Not a Human Being — scored the top position after debuting lower.

This isn't the first time Nicki Minaj has made history on the charts, either. Last summer, she notched four songs (through guest appearances) on the Hot 100 chart at the same time, becoming the first female artist to do so.

In November, when Pink Friday bowed at #2 on the chart, bested only by Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Nicki was overwhelmed by the album's success.

"I'm just so grateful and kind of still in shock. These numbers haven't been put up since 1998," she told MTV News, referring to Lauryn Hill's tally for a debuting solo female. "It just makes me feel proud of my team, proud of my fans, everyone who has had something to do with my dreams. Finally, we are seeing this dream come to fruition. It feels incredible."

What do you think of Nicki's album topping the chart in its 11th week? Let us know in the comments!

Lindsay Lohan Charged With Felony Grand Theft

'Don't push your luck,' judge tells actress during arraignment for allegedly stealing a necklace.

Lindsay Lohan was arraigned Wednesday (February 9) on a felony charge related to her recent jewelry theft case, and the presiding judge made it clear that he wants the troubled starlet to stay straight.

Lohan arrived in court in a clingy white minidress, big black shades and hair in a blond ponytail with a necklace tucked into her collar. In the courtroom, the actress sat quietly next to her lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, who said Lohan's probation officer maintained she has been "a good probationer." Ultimately, the judge decided to revoke her probation in her previous misdemeanor case and set bail at $20,000. At the close of the minutes-long arraignment, Judge Keith Schwartz addressed Lohan directly and advised her that her current circumstance is more serious than her previous legal scrapes.

"You're in a different situation now that a felony has been filed against you," Schwartz said, later adding that, "If you violate the law, I will remand you and set no bail." The judge explained that Lohan wouldn't be able to dodge jail time and post bail as she did last year after she admittedly failed a court-mandated drug test, saying, "A felony is a different situation and you're not entitled to bail." The judge also firmly told the starlet, "You need to follow the laws just like everybody else," and added, "Please, don't push your luck. I'm telling you, things will be different."

Lohan allegedly lifted a $2,500 necklace from a Venice, California, jewelry store on January 22. The owner reported the theft to the Los Angeles Police Department, which later investigated the accusation and presented evidence to the District Attorney's office last week. The actress has been officially charged with one count of felony grand theft and faces up to three years in prison.

The case is unusual for a number of reasons, according to criminal defense lawyer Jacob Glucksman, who used to be a deputy district attorney in the Los Angeles County Prosecutors office. "It does seem odd to me," Glucksman told MTV News on Wednesday afternoon a short time before Lohan's arraignment. "Most theft cases are: You go into a store and hide something in your bag and leave or take it from a person. Something like this is fairly rare and begs the questions: Why didn't the store just go to Lindsay's people and not the cops?"

Glucksman said the case will come down to the issue of intent, which could be hard for the prosecutor's office to prove. One of the keys to the case will be prior acts, including similar incidents in the past in which Lohan has been accused (but never criminally charged) with keeping or taking something that didn't belong to her.

"There's an evidence code in California [section 1101 (b)] that relates to character evidence," he said. "It says that character evidence cannot be used to prove a person's propensity to commit a crime. That means they can't say that 'Lindsay Lohan is the type of person who would commit this crime because she's done XYZ in the past.' "

However, Glucksman, who is not involved in the Lohan case, added, you can use prior acts to show "motive, intent, opportunity, knowledge or modus operandi," in which case prosecutors could use the character evidence to show that she had intent to steal this time.

"You would say, 'In the past, someone has given her a coat, a watch, trinkets ... and they haven't asked for it back,' and because she had the knowledge and intent to keep it, that's what she did this time too." Lohan does not have to have been charged with crimes in the prior acts in order for them to be brought up in court, but a judge could seek to limit such evidence if he or she thought it would confuse or mislead jurors and possibly lead them to convict Lohan for a past crime rather than the one that led to her charging.

The necklace-nicking incident is the latest case in Lohan's extensive litany of legal run-ins. The starlet was recently released from rehab after failing a court-ordered drug test and spending 2010 in and out of courtrooms and in prison for continually failing to comply with the conditions of her probation stemming from a 2007 DUI bust.

Days after his glow-in-the-dark Super Bowl XLV halftime performance, will.i.am is already working on his next high-profile gig: a collaboration with Britney Spears. After the "Hold It Against Me" singer tweeted about the team-up Tuesday, the Black Eyed Peas' leading man opened up about his studio session with the pop princess.

"I just came from the studio right now," Will told The Associated Press. While hesitant to give away details, he did gush about the tune, emphasizing the song's place in today's music scene. "It's a monster," he said. "It's mean, pretty, edgy, next level. But the beat just ... It's that beat. She's singing fresh over it. It's something that today needs."

While many fans were pleased to hear about the pop partnership, some weren't so keen on a tweet will.i.am posted shortly after Spears' collabo announcement. It read, "I just found out some people don't tweet themselves they have teams of tweeters for them ... Wow."

After Team Britney went after the producer, he clarified his sentiments: "Britney tweets for herself I saw it with my own eyes when we recorded in the studio today," he wrote. "She's such a sweet heart she's a perfectionist. You guys read into things way to hard ... shame on who ever thought I was talkin about britney ... so sad people want to start things."

In the end, Will reverted the focus back to his tune with the pop star, tweeting, "The song I did with britney is ganna be crazy fresh. from the super bowl to the studio workin on a mega smasher. can't wait till its done."

As Britney continues her daily tease-a-thon for the "Hold It Against Me" video, which will premiere February 17 on MTV, her collaboration with will.i.am might be one of her final studio sessions in completing her new album, Femme Fatale. Scheduled to drop March 29, the LP is expected to include production credits from Dr. Luke, Max Martin, Rodney Jerkins, Stargate, Fraser T. Smith and Bloodshy & Avant.

One producer who might not be making the final cut, however, is William Orbit (Madonna's "Ray of Light"), according to one of his latest tweets. "did a song w Klas Ahlund, who wrote 'Piece of Me'. And is killa. But not on FF apparently. But a good song is a good song regardless," he wrote.

What do you think Britney and will.i.am's collabo will sound like? Tell us below!

Ashlee Simpson And Pete Wentz: A Timeline Of Their Love

Pop darling and Fall Out Boy bassist met at 2006 VMAs and juggled parenthood, music and their various professional projects.

On Wednesday (February 9), news broke that after nearly three years of marriage, Ashlee Simpson had filed for divorce from Pete Wentz. But even in the early stages of their courtship, Simpson and Wentz were plagued by rumors about their relationship.

Check out photos of the ex-couple throughout the years.

Shortly after they started dating — after meeting at the MTV VMAs in 2006 — the gossip pages began speculating about the pair, who were often open about addressing the talk. In 2007 (months after they'd gone public), Simpson was preparing her next album when Wentz flatly denied he was working on new music with his girlfriend. "That's pretty much the silliest recent rumor I have read," he said. "Mostly [because] I want no part in selling a relationship. I mean, it is not true. She hasn't really played me any of [her album]. I heard part of a demo that I liked, though.

"I mean, reports getting out are a bummer when they are absolutely not true. But at the same time you have to understand that this is part of the territory."

Months later, the two were fighting off rumors that the tight-knit Simpson clan hadn't been very welcoming of Wentz. Despite the speculation, though, Wentz and Simpson seemed like a close couple, often appearing at events together showing support for each other's projects. And in April 2008, the duo became engaged. Just days later, Simpson denied rumors that she was pregnant, saying, "I just think it's an inappropriate question to ask any woman."

Wentz and Simpson were married only a month later, in May, but the rumor mill was in full swing insisting that Ashlee and Pete were indeed expecting a bundle of joy. An official baby confirmation finally came at the end of May.

"While many have speculated about this," the couple shared, "we wanted to wait until after the first trimester to officially confirm that we are expecting our first child. This is truly the most joyous time in our lives, and we are excited to share the happy news and start our family."

In November 2008, Ashlee and Pete had their son, Bronx Mowgli.

"Every time I see my son, it looks like he's landing on the moon and discovering new rocks and stuff," Wentz said at the time. "I mean, every time he looks at his hand, it's like he's Christopher Columbus making it across the ocean. It's pretty awesome."

"Motherhood is the most fantastic experience I have ever been through," Simpson wrote at the time. "Bronx makes me laugh and smile every day! ... I can't wait to spend [the holiday] with my new family. Christmas tree goes up tomorrow!"

However in March 2009, the couple were battling rumors of marital woes. Again, they denied there was anything to worry about, but by June of that year, gossip had Wentz's ex, Michelle Trachtenberg, coming between the pair.

After Simpson got into an argument with the "Gossip Girl" star at a party in Los Angeles, Simpson's publicist responded in a statement, "It was just a misunderstanding. Ashlee has since apologized to Michelle, and they remain on good terms."

Wentz and Simpson have kept busy the last couple of years, working on various projects. According to TMZ, Simpson cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split.

Last year, Bieber denied any aspirations for a rap career.

A year ago, almost to the day, MTV News ran an interview with Justin Bieber in which the teen star said he had no plans to do any rapping. Cut to a year later, and Bieber has really stepped up his rap game, between his verse on Sean Kingston's "Won't Stop" and his Shawty Mane MC alter ego.

When we caught up with the star on the bowling-alley video set for "Baby" last year, Bieber still seemed kind of green to the whole process but remained completely poised throughout the shoot. He opened up about his MC pals, sharing how he got Ludacris to join him on the song, which turned out to be his breakout hit.

"Well, [Ludacris and I] both live in Atlanta," Bieber said. "I met him a year prior to this, and we figured it was a perfect collaboration for him, so we invited him out to do it."

When asked if Luda offered him any advice, Bieber said, "No. I mean, he's a rapper; he doesn't sing." And he seemed adamantly opposed when we asked if he had any rapping plans: "No. Not at all. Nope."

These days, Bieber's MC rolodex has expanded even more, but back then, he was still flexing his swagga muscle by getting fellow Canadian Drake onboard to make a cameo in the video. "He's just one of my good buddies. He's here to hang out," Bieber said, noting that he couldn't confirm who else might appear on his not-yet-released My World 2.0. "You'll have to see when it comes out in March."

On Friday, Justin Bieber's 3-D documentary, "Never Say Never," opens. The film takes a look at how the teen star worked to hit it big. MTV News has been chatting with him along the way, from the time he first burst on the scene in 2009 until now, as he embarks on a huge 2011 that will include a tour and more new music.

Britney Spears' <i>Femme Fatale</i> Twitter Trend Keeps Rolling

Title of pop star's March 29 release is #10 longest-running trend on social-networking site.
By Nuzhat Naoreen

Britney Spears' upcoming album, Femme Fatale, doesn't hit shelves until March 29, but it's already breaking records.

The title, which has been trending worldwide on Twitter since Spears first announced it exactly a week ago, just nabbed the #10 spot on a list of the longest running Twitter trends gathered by Twend. It, a site that tracks topics on the social-networking site.

"Can't believe Femme Fatale has been trending 6 days. You guys are my motivation every single day. I love u all!" Spears wrote Tuesday on Twitter, where she has more than 6.8 million followers; she also included a link to the official announcement on her site.

The top 10 list uses Twitter's algorithms to tally the number of times a topic has trended since May 2010, when Twend. It was founded.

"It's culturally important," said Nick DiFilippo, co-founder of Twend.it, who added that the popularity of entertainment topics on Twitter validates the notion that social-networking is an effective advertising tool that allows artists to reach their fans more directly. "They are finding a way to connect with their fanbase."

The ranking puts Spears in good company: Femme Fatale, the only music-related Twitter trend to break the top 10, joins "Inception," which is holding strong at #1 after trending for a total of 39 days. "Inception" was one of 2010's biggest box-office hits, grossing nearly $292 million domestically.

Of course, success on Twitter doesn't always lead to great sales. Other pop culture strongholds on the list include the movies "Last Airbender" at #9, and "Scott Pilgrim," positioned at #5. Both films disappointed at the box office.

Also noticeably absent from the list are Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga, both of whom were among the top five most-tweeted-about people in 2010. So while Bieber and Gaga each have strong followings on Twitter, Twend.it's DiFilippo doesn't think Spears is in danger of being pushed out of the top 10. In fact, he predicts Femme Fatale will quickly move up on the list.

"The way these trends go is once they hit momentum it gets hard to stop them," he said. "Something like an album releasing, especially by one of the biggest pop artists around, it's going to have some momentum, so I do predict it's going to go a bit higher. I could see it going up to the sixth, fifth place at least."

While the album doesn't come out until next month, Britney fans have plenty to look forward to: The pop star has been tweeting daily teasers to her upcoming video for "Hold It Against Me," which premieres on MTV on February 17 at 9:56 p.m. ET.

Eve will be one of many celebrities sauntering down the catwalk for the Heart Truth fashion show, kicking off this season's New York fashion week.

The Heart Truth aims to shed awareness on heart disease, which is a leading killer among women. This year's show will feature a number of celebrities, including Audrina Patridge, Camila Alves, Cat Deeley, Denise Richards, Dita Von Teese, Julianne Hough, Katrina Bowden and Natasha Bedingfield, to name a few.

When MTV News caught up with Eve recently, she opened up about prepping for the show. "It makes me feel like a lady," she said of her red David Meister dress. "Which is nice! I want to go to a ball in it! It's beautiful. I definitely will have to have good posture in this dress. It's a beautiful dress."

Eve is known for her tough, street-smart style, and she said she wanted to show a new side of herself in the show. "From what I know about David's dresses, they are very elegant. They are very pretty. I did want to wear something that would sway with me on the runway, just because I'm not a model and I'm not trying to do a crazy walk. I guess this will help me walk down the aisle the right way."

Sure, Eve has graced many a red carpet, but she admits that walking down the runway has her shaken.

"I'm ridiculously nervous! I just hope it's over quickly. You know, I want everyone to see the dress and I want to walk. I don't want to run down the runway, but I'm scared. I am. I'm stressed, but my mom will be there," she explained, hoping to not trip and fall like Carrie Bradshaw on "Sex and the City."

"No 'Sex and the City' moments, even though she did look fabulous and she got up and kept it moving," she added. "So if it did happen, then we'll see."

Adam Sandler, Jennifer Aniston Discuss Box-Office Showdown With Justin Bieber

Their 'Just Go With It' opens against 'Never Say Never' this weekend.

NEW YORK — The palm trees, tiki-themed decorations and ocean-blue carpet at the Tuesday-night premiere of Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston's "Just Go With It" didn't fool anyone: Despite a tent meant to keep the winter at bay, it was freezing outside the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York, a far cry from the sunny Hawaiian clime in which much of the romantic comedy takes place.

Yet Sandler, Aniston and their co-stars projected nothing but warm vibes as they made their way past a massive throng of photographers and toward an equally long line of TV and print journalists. Days from now, this new flick — a comedy of errors in which Sandler convinces Aniston to pretend to be his wife in a wild scheme to secure the affections of Brooklyn Decker — opens up against Justin Bieber's "Never Say Never." This weekend at the box office is setting up to be a compelling clash between teen heartthrob and established big-screen players, but Aniston is approaching the whole thing blissfully unaware — or so she liked to joke when MTV News asked her about the face-off.

"Who?" she asked when the topic of Bieber came up.

Sandler stepped in with a little intro to the "Never Say Never" star. "Nice little kid. He sings," he explained. "He grew up in front of our eyes. He's a handsome boy."

"Very handsome," Aniston added, suddenly finding herself with a case of Bieber Fever.

For moviegoers on the fence this weekend, Sandler suggested catching a double feature at the multiplex. "We don't start fights with people. You can go to both," he said. "We'll go to Justin's movie. We'll show some respect to that kid and his family — get him some more money."

"Yeah! I hear he's hurting," deadpanned Aniston.

Others in the cast were more forthcoming about the prospect of opening up against "Never Say Never." "It's hard. We're nervous," Decker admitted. "I love myself some Justin Bieber, so I'm not going to bash anyone who goes to see that movie. I will say I love our movie!"

Dave Matthews, who co-stars as Nicole Kidman's absurdly pretentious husband, was even more blunt. "That's going to blow everything out of the water. Justin Bieber is going to blow everything out of the water for a few years," he told us. "That's what I expect — and deservedly so. What better than Bieber to blow everything out of the water? I expect nothing but my daughter's devotion to him and I will support it absolutely."

Johnny Depp To Cameo In Adam Sandler's 'Jack And Jill'

Director Dennis Dugan confirms Depp's cameo to MTV News at 'Just Go With It' premiere.
By Eric Ditzian

On the absolutely frigid red carpet for Adam Sandler's "Just Go With It" on Tuesday night, MTV News got an answer to a burning question about another upcoming Sandler comedy, "Jack and Jill."

Last month, paparazzi photos surfaced showing Johnny Depp visiting the set of "Jack and Jill," in which Sandler plays both halves of a boy/girl set of twins, leading to speculation that the "Pirates of Caribbean" star will make a cameo in the flick. We put that question to director Dennis Dugan — who's helmed not only "Just Go With It" and "Jack and Jill," but five other Sandler films — and got a cameo confirmation.

"There's a secret guest star, but I can't say who it is," Dugan said, before admitting: "Johnny Depp."

We followed up to make sure Dugan wasn't just messing with us. "No!" he said.

So we can mark that rumor as official fact, though Dugan stopped short of letting us know the exact nature of Depp's cameo. But the mere fact that Depp has signed on for the appearance is not only kind of great, but gives us hope that he'll also pop up for a cameo in the big-screen adaptation of "21 Jump Street." Goodness knows MTV News has been doing everything we can to make that happen.

In non-Depp-related "Jack and Jill" news, we've got another scoop for you: the answer to the question of what Sandler looks like dressed up as a woman.

Said Dugan, "Not Brooklyn Decker in 'Just Go with It.' "

Check out everything we've got on "Just Go With It."
