Recently, while filming a video, 50 Cent said it was he who gave Eminem the idea to release two albums this year. Fif is taking credit for that — you're welcome, America. The Queens MC also said he's going to do the same thing.

"What they don't know ... the new announcement is that I'm dropping two albums," Fif smiled. "I've had an opportunity to record since I thought I was releasing an album in December. But the portion of my record that I recorded with Dr. Dre was incomplete, because there was no opportunity to mix it. The only song that was mixed that I worked on with Dr. Dre is 'I Get It In' — that one is out now. It's cool, but I need the rest of them to be mixed before I can present my project to the public."

Fif projects Before I Self Destruct will drop in June, after Eminem's Relapse hits stores on May 19 — and 50's second album will come one month after Em's second album, according to the current game plan.

When asked to describe the concept of the upcoming "Crack a Bottle" video, 50 didn't say much. "The concept ... this video is very artistic. It's an idea that Em and [his manager] Paul [Rosenberg] agreed on. It's exciting."

And ...?

"So you want me to tell what it is?" 50 laughed. "I'm not telling you."

Fif is set to join Fall Out Boy on tour for five dates, starting with the Dallas stop on April 14.

Gucci Mane Says He Went Straight To The Studio After Leaving Jail

Newly free Atlanta rapper will shoot a video for 'Make the Trap Say Aye' remix with Cam'ron on Tuesday.

The Gucc is home. Gucci Mane was released from an Atlanta detention center Friday and went right back to entertaining.

"Straight to the studio and recorded four or five songs. Then I had a party later that night to get ready for, so that took up most of my day right there," he said Monday (March 16) via phone from Atlanta, describing his first day as a free man. Gucci had been in jail since September. He was sentenced to a year for failing to serve his court-ordered 600 hours of community service, which had been mandated in 2005.

Gucci said he was in the studio with producers Drumma Boy and Frank Nitti, as well as up-and-comers Fat Boy and Zaytoven.

"I got this one song called 'Weekend' — it's tight," he described. "It was produced by Fat Boy. I did songs for the 'hood, for the trap. I did a couple of songs for the clubs and one for the girls.

The rapper promises a new LP soon. "I'm working on it now," he said. "I don't know when it's coming out. I'm only 30 percent done. No title yet. I'm trying to see where the music takes me and base the title on the music. I'm just going through a lot of new material."

In September, when Gucci went away, he was at the height of his career. He parlayed a strong string of street records into major love around his city. He was one of the most popular artists in Atlanta when he went in and only got bigger while in jail. In the ATL, you can't escape songs like "Bricks" and "Make the Trap Say Aye," an OJ Da Juiceman song featuring Gucc.

"It was a challenge for me," he said of going to jail. "I'm just happy my team kept my music going strong for me. And I'm happy I recorded so many records so people could hear me."

He said the amount of songs he had before going behind bars last year was near 1,000. Gucci credits his pace of making six songs a day.

Gucci, who said prison has made him hungrier, has performed two shows since Friday. "I was surprised everybody knew every word of my songs I released before I went in," he said. "It was surprising they knew the words to all these mixtape songs like 'Stoopid,' 'Jewelry' and 'I Think I Love Here.' ... I did 'Photoshoot' and shook the whole club."

Gucci, OJ and Cam'ron shoot the video for an "Aye" remix on Tuesday in Atlanta.

"Cam killed that verse," he said. "He went in on that song. That was a great verse. Shout-out to Cam."

Is Kid Cudi Retiring From Music?

MC blogs, 'I am not making any more solo albums' after the release of his debut this summer.
By Steven Roberts

If what Kid Cudi wrote on his blog Monday morning (March 16) is true, it looks like he'll be making his exit from the game before he's even really started. Cudi — who was named one of our "MCs to Watch in 2009"posted on his blog Monday morning that he plans to stop releasing solo albums after his forthcoming debut drops this summer.

Under a post titled "I Am Sorry," he wrote in an all-caps missive (from which some misspellings and punctuation have been corrected for clarity):

"After the release of my first LP this summer, I am not making anymore solo albums. I am falling back on being an artist. The drama that comes with it is more overwhelming than I was dealing with when I was piss-poor broke.

"My friends get mad at me, say I've changed," the post continues. "One of the only homies i got in this game, Wale, [also named an "MC to Watch in 2009"] is worried about me cuz of sh-- he hears. Like wtf? Who can say I'm bein' Hollywood? ... Does my music poke fun at others? Do I talk sh-- about people in my music? I already went to high school once, and got expelled cuz it wasnt for me. Ima drop out this sh-- before n---az try and crucify me.

"I don't look at it as quitting, for I have already accomplished my goal," he continued. "I have a solid fanbase who truly appreciates me and my messages thru song, I got multiple big records, I have received worldwide critical acclaim from the biggest tastemakers in the game, three fan-made best-of mixtapes without even releasing more than one mixtape and not even releasing a album, I can pay my mom's mortgage and help my sister with my niece and hold my brothers down with wutever they need. That's wut i got in this game for, to accomplish all these goals and I have. No regrets.

"I'm sorry to the fans, I'm so sorry y'all. I know u guys will all hate me, but remember, I'm just a regular dude who was given a amazing gift, and now with that amazing gift came more uncalled-for problems than the average human being should have to deal with. I will still do the collab album with [fellow Cleveland MC Chip Tha Ripper], and that will be my last studio recording.

"I am going to focus all my attention on the HBO show, which we start shooting in August, and my acting career in general ... I'll continue to do shows for the real Kid Cudi fans, and I'm planning a big concert this summer, just me, and I will perform my entire mixtape from beginning to end and new songs from my album. I'll keep u guys updated on that.

"Again, I am sorry, but it's the only way to keep me from going completely insane," he concluded. "I'm too real for this high school musical sh--. Bak to the moon I go."

Whether his announcement is serious, an impulsive action or a prank was unclear at press time — reps for Cudi had not responded to MTV News' requests for comment, although his conversations with MTV News' correspondent Kim Stolz last week certainly didn't seem to indicate what he announced on Monday.

However, he did air his frustrations in a recent interview with MTV News. "I'm a human being, you know what I'm saying?" he said. "Things stress me out. Like fame, this whole Kid Cudi thing. It's hard to make that transition, because I'm just a regular guy. I'm not into the whole fame of things, so I talk about the stuff I deal with internally in my world in hopes that people can relate to that, and it'll touch them."

The Wale reference Cudi blogged about is a video on Joe Budden's YouTube channel, where Wale says he loves Cudi and considers him a friend, but he has noticed a change.

"I did that record for him, before this whole thing was big," Wale said. "And I just feel like it's a different Cudi now, and I tell him that."

Last week, another "MC to Watch in 2009," B.o.B cleared the air about rumors of his retirement. B.o.B had been building a buzz thanks to his single, "I'll Be in the Sky," as well as his mixtapes, but rumors began to surface that he planned to quit.

"I didn't quit anything. I've always had music in my life, at the top of my priority list." Without going in to specifics, he said he had grown tired of dealing with the business side of it. "It does get frustrating, trying to be as free as possible."

Cudi was enjoying similar success. He had the chance to remake the video for his infectious first single, "Day 'N' Nite," with acclaimed French director So Me; and he was in talks to have his second single, "Sky Might Fall," officially featured in a trailer for "Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen."

MTV News will have more on this situation as it develops.

ATLANTAB.o.B's fans gave him more than an earful when they heard about his rumored retirement a few weeks ago.

"People hit me on Facebook, Twitter, on MySpace," he said with a smile in his home. "I don't know how it got to that. How it got twisted to 'I quit.' I didn't quit. Things got misunderstood."

Even though he's been frustrated with the business of making music in the past, B.o.B said one of his biggest supporters has been the guy he's signed to: T.I.

"We've been talking about the direction I've been going musically and really getting everybody on the same page," B.o.B explained. "As I'm learning what it means to be an artist in the music industry, I'm learning more. At the same time, I'm still learning how to keep that creativity for what I see. I manifest that that into my music and where it's taking me. It's taking me to places and venues and areas I never imagined before.

"Now that I know, I'm like, 'Let me take this a little more seriously,' " he added. "Not that I didn't before, but when you really see how impactful your music is ... now it's my focus to be as impactful as possible and reaching as many people as possible. I'm like, 'It's my life.' It's more than a hobby, it's more than a craft — it's my life. Maybe I'm crazy. ... I can't help but make music. It's all I feel like doing."

B.o.B's new sound has involved a lot of instrumentation and a rock-and-roll edge.

"Now I go by the name 'Bobby Ray.' Make sure you put 'Bobby Ray,' " the MC revealed. "I'm really going into a new direction — more free and not trying to live up to any particular genre. I don't feel like I've been doing that. I don't feel like I've been trying to fit in, but I feel even more free-spirited. I have more willingness musically. That's all I'm about. I'm about guitars, chords and keyboards."

B.o.B is one of the main attractions this week at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas. He'll be performing with his band the Eastsiders.

Fabolous, More MCs Share Their Favorite March Madness Memories

Posted: 15 Mar 2009 10:36 PM PDT

Capone-N-Noreaga have the same fave -- and it wasn't pretty.

March Madness is now official. On Sunday, all the teams were picked for the yearly college-basketball mecca, the NCAA Tournament.

For basketball fans, the tournament is the highest of the high. It doesn't get any better than watching 64 teams play night after night until one team stands as the victor. Even non-fans get into March Madness, choosing which teams will make it the farthest in hopes of winning the office pool.

Just like everyone else, your favorite MCs will have their game faces on as they cheer their teams to victory or just enjoy a great game they have no vested interest in.

Bow Wow has been watching the college b-ball season closely, even while he's been on the road. He said he was blown away just days ago by the Big East Tournament game between the Orangemen and the Huskies.

"My favorite moment had to be Syracuse and UConn's six-overtime game," he said via e-mail. "I was on a promotional tour promoting my new album when I saw it."

Capone-N-Noreaga were on the same wavelength when thinking back to their favorite NCAA Tournament moments.

"When [University of Michigan player] Chris Webber called a timeout back in the '93 tournament finals and [his team] didn't have one [left]," Capone recalled. "He blew the game. I watched the game in my crib. It was funny as hell, 'cause I did the same thing when I was playing ball as a youngster. Years later, Chris became my homeboy. I always wanted to ask him what he was thinking."

"My most memorable moment was definitely back in 1993 when Chris Webber held the ball and called a timeout and there wasn't one," Capone's partner Nore said. "I was at home, pi--ed!"

Fabolous' favorite tournament moment is way fonder than his NYC peers'. Fab appreciated the high-scoring hit men from Nevada back during the 1989-90 season. Anchored by soon-to-be NBA great Larry Johnson and future pro star-turned-greater commentator Greg Anthony, the UNLV squad was amazing.

"My favorite moment was seeing the UNLV Runnin' Rebels win the title against Duke," Fab said. "They were my favorite team and had an all-star lineup. I loved their run-and-gun-style of play. You couldn't stop them."

The NCAA Tournament begins Thursday, and you can check back throughout the week for more of your favorite stars' memories of games past and picks for the 2009 tourney.

Lindsay Lohan Arrest Warrant Recalled

Actress had warrant out for her arrest over weekend; Lohan not in court Monday morning.

Despite a weekend that included an arrest warrant the public apparently knew about before she did, a reported dust-up with girlfriend Samantha Ronson that ended with a broken window at their house, and a reportedly last-minute late-Friday-night stop at Jack Nicholson's house, Lindsay Lohan did not have to be in court for her hearing on Monday (March 16) after all.

The actress, 22, was the subject of a warrant issued by a Los Angeles judge on Friday that carried a $50,000 bail tied to a pair of 2007 DUI incidents. But attorney Shawn Chapman Holley told The Associated Press on Sunday that she would appear in court on Lohan's behalf to clear up what she said was a "misunderstanding" that led to the issuance of the warrant.

According to TMZ, Holley did just that, showing up for a court appearance that took just a few minutes and resulted in the warrant for Lohan's arrest being recalled. Full details on the hearing were not available at press time.

Over the weekend, TMZ reported that the warrant stemmed from her absence from an alcohol-education program in which she'd been enrolled for more than a year following her guilty plea to two misdemeanor counts of being under the influence of cocaine, one count of reckless driving and two no-contest pleas to driving with a blood-alcohol level above .08 from the 2007 incidents.

The Associated Press also reported that Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Marsha N. Revel determined that Lohan has been complying with the terms of her probation but needs to give her treatment program the proper paperwork to avoid future problems with the court.

"As you saw in court, this was really much ado about nothing," Holley told reporters after the hearing.

While TMZ reported that Lohan had been in full compliance with her probation, unnamed sources said that she recently switched programs and was "either late or missed one of the classes at the new program," which led the program director to alert the court. The site said Lohan blamed her tardiness on the paparazzi, who prevented her from showing up on time. On Monday, TMZ clarified that Holley said Lohan had "personality conflicts" with the previous program and that she will now enroll in a new alcohol-education program and will be back in court on April 3 to provide proof.

Prior to Monday's appearance, Holley told the AP that since being given three years' probation in the two cases, Lohan has complied with all court orders, which included community service and drug rehabilitation. If Lohan violates her probation, she could face up to a year in jail on each drunk-driving and cocaine charge and 90 days on the reckless-driving count.

TMZ also reported that police were called to Lohan's girlfriend Samantha Ronson's house after a disturbance involving a broken window was reported on Saturday, but left without apprehending Lohan. The actress reportedly spent Friday evening with friends at the Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood, and then the group made a late-night visit to the house of Jack Nicholson.

Perez Hilton Says He's 'Disappointed' With Rihanna

Perez Hilton may be a huge Rihanna fan, but these days the self-proclaimed Queen of All Media is feeling a bit betrayed by the singer's reconciliation with Chris Brown, who allegedly attacked her last month during Grammy weekend.

"There are so many layers to this Chris Brown and RiRi story. Every day there's a new development," he told MTV News on Friday. "And it pains me to say this, but every day I'm getting more and more disappointed in Rihanna."

He added that he's been a fan of hers for years now, but he isn't sure he can condone her actions for much longer. "I was the biggest fan. I was her biggest cheerleader. For the last two-plus years she could do no wrong in my book. I nicknamed her Princess Rih Rih," he said. "But she's not acting very royal, in my opinion.

"The latest is that her attorney is in cahoots with Chris Brown's attorney to try and get her not to testify in court," the blogger added. His response to the rumors constantly floating around? "Boo! It makes me so frustrated."

Hilton seems particularly frustrated that the singer doesn't seem to be taking advice, even when it's offered by one of the world's most famous sages. "I'm finding it very difficult to continue loving and supporting [her]. 'Cause if she won't listen to Oprah, who will she listen to?" the blogger said, referencing the talk-show host's special episode devoted to abusive relationships. "Oprah is never wrong, except those times that she is, but they are far and few between."

Asher Roth Wants To 'Start A Revolution' At South By Southwest

'If you're going to change the world with anything, it's going to be music,' rapper says.

There will be a strong contingent of hip-hop artists performing at this year's South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas. Rap heavyweights like Big Boi, Bun B and Rick Ross are scheduled to make appearances, along with a fresh new crop of young MCs.

All of MTV News' MCs to Watch in '09 — B.o.B, Wale, Kid Cudi, Charles Hamilton and Asher Roth — hope to gain visibility in Austin during the week. Roth told MTV News last month that hitting the festival circuit was one of his goals.

"Something that really is a goal of mine is bringing back that celebration that is live music. Something that I want to do is ... I want to start a revolution. I really want to start a revolution, and I think you can do it with us, the kids."

Roth stressed that he wants to speak to the kids that are paying attention and cognizant of what's going on around them. "If you're going to change the world with anything, it's going to be music."

He also explained that his performance at the festival will showcase his entire album, not just the hits he's known for. "The mixtape was one thing where it was just rapping. With the album, what was really important for me was putting out music, putting out songs — not just verses with a hook, [but] a cohesive feel and a vibe to the album."

His debut album, Asleep in the Bread Aisle, will drop on Monday, April 20. Roth, a big Bob Marley fan, hopes to carry on the tradition of freedom and unity Marley expressed in his music and live performances.

"With live music I feel like, if I do it appropriately and do it genuinely, I'm hopefully going to garner the interest of people from all different walks of life, all over the world, and bring them together in one common interest — and that is good music."
