Chris Brown's manager, Tina Davis, who was identified by TMZ on Tuesday as the person who sent Chris Brown the text message that sparked the alleged altercation with Rihanna, has reportedly denied suggestions that the text was of an intimate nature.

TMZ posted the following statement, reportedly issued through Davis' lawyer, Marshall B. Grossman:

"The relationship between Ms. Davis and Mr. Brown is that of manager and client. There has never been any other relationship. The rumors in circulation are false. There are no e-mails between Ms. Davis and Mr. Brown of the type which have been described in media reports.

"If the source of the false rumors is identified, legal action will be taken. Given the nature of the legal issues affecting Mr. Brown, Ms. Davis will not be making any further statements."

Davis' father denied reports of romance between his daughter and Brown earlier on Wednesday (March 11), telling E! News that they were "old rumors."

On Tuesday, the site reported that Davis, 39, sent Brown a late-night message the night before the Grammy Awards. Davis has guided Brown's career since his debut. There had been speculation in the past that Davis and Brown were romantically linked (though it has never been confirmed), and the police report indicated that the text came "from a woman who Brown had a previous sexual relationship with."

Last month, before a police report provided more details, TMZ reported that a text message was at the center of Brown and Rihanna's alleged fight. Some media outlets reported that singer Keshia Chante was the one who sent a text about "hooking up later," as TMZ reported the message said. Chante's manager, however, denied that her client was the sender.

Just last week, new information emerged regarding the matter as police documents were made available. In a police statement, Rihanna told officers she found a three-page text message on Brown's phone from a woman he was involved with in the past, who is now believed to be Davis. Brown allegedly became enraged at Rihanna after she discovered the message. After allegedly attempting to kick her out of his car and pushing her face against the window, he then allegedly began pummeling and biting her.

Tony Knight, a representative for Brown, had no comment when contacted by MTV News. MTV News' requests for comment have not been answered by Davis as of press time. On Tuesday, a spokeswoman with the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office would not confirm whether Davis sent the text, telling MTV News, "Brown has not been arraigned yet, so we will not be commenting on the matter."

Brown recently appeared in court, but he didn't enter a plea on the two felony charges. The singer — who reportedly has reconciled with Rihanna — is due back in court April 6 to be arraigned on two felony counts of assault and making criminal threats stemming from the February 8 incident.

Thanks to a couple of hours in the makeup chair, Kanye West became a dirty old man. Recently in Los Angeles, West and one of his best friends, producer 88-Keys (West, Musiq Soulchild, Mos Def), wore prosthetics to look like senior citizens while shooting the video for "Stay Up (Viagra)." The two — aged about 35 years — took to the streets of Hollywood with a couple of young beauties on their arms.

Early in the evening, the duo pulled up to the historic Grauman's Chinese Theatre in a stretch Cadillac Escalade limousine, with a crowd of around 100 tourists waiting for them to emerge. With everyone positioned for photo-ops, the two stepped out of the vehicle with their honeys and walked across the famous cement handprints, with the gaggle of fans clicking away.

'Ye and Keys simply walked up to the front of the theater and back to the limo — the whole scene lasted only a couple of minutes.

"Stay Up (Viagra)" is a single off of Keys' debut LP, The Death of Adam, executive-produced by Kanye. And if you're wondering what the song is about, it's exactly what you think.

"What she got is so Niagara," Kanye raps on the record. "Make a young n---a straight need Viagra/ Make an old n---a give keys to Jaguar/ Just to keep from all the the 'tee-hees' and laughter/ Her telling her homegirls that he couldn't stay up."

Kanye will also be in L.A. for the filming of his next video off of 808s & Heartbreak, "Amazing," with Young Jeezy in a co-starring role.

Will 'American Idol' Phone-Number Snafu Sink Alexis Grace?

Posted: 10 Mar 2009 11:28 PM PDT

Final performer was saddled with a brand-new number after producers learned IDOLS-13 led to a sex line.
By James Montgomery

Photo: M Becker/American Idol 2009/Getty Images for Fox

It began on Saturday, when Jim Hellriegel, the owner of DialIdol.com, was testing the numbers for the opening round of the "American Idol" top 13. It quickly spread to various "Idol" fan sites, gathered steam when Ryan Seacrest Twittered about it on Tuesday morning, then came to a head on Tuesday night's "Idol" broadcast.

It's the great Alexis Grace phone controversy. And it could be very bad.

If you're not quite sure what we're talking about, here's a quick breakdown: On Saturday, Hellriegel — who makes it a point of checking the phone numbers of each "Idol" contestant weekly — noticed that one number, (866) IDOLS-13, wasn't giving him the usual busy signal (as is the case if the numbers are dialed when the show's voting window is closed). Rather, it was very much live ... and owned by a company called Intimate Encounters, which offered callers decidedly un-"Idol" entertainment. At $3.99 per minute.

Obviously, this would pose a problem for whichever contestant drew the unlucky 13th spot on Tuesday night's show, as producers would have to find a suitable replacement phone number for him or her. As it turns out, that honor fell to Grace, the pint-sized powerhouse who wowed judges with her performance of Aretha Franklin's "I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You)" a few weeks back.

And though Seacrest made ample mentions of Grace's new number — (866) IDOLS-36 — throughout the telecast, the snafu has brought to light two very real issues. First, Grace could be bounced from the competition due to confused fans dialing the incorrect number. And second, why didn't "Idol" producers realize they didn't own IDOLS-13 until the day of the show?

"I thought they should've ordered a whole new set of numbers to even the playing field," said MJ, who runs noted "Idol" fan site MJsBigBlog.com. "There's no doubt that people dialed the wrong number last night ... and it seems to me that ['Idol' producers] should've known that they didn't own the number. But if you look at this whole season — the wild-card round, the rule changes — it sort of seems like everyone is flying by the seat of their pants."

So when exactly did "Idol" producers realize there was a problem with the IDOLS-13 phone number, and what — if any — plans do they have in place if Grace is eliminated and chooses to make a case out of the phone-number change?

Well, when MTV News reached out to 19 Entertainment, the company that produces "Idol," for clarification, a spokesperson would only say that "we have no comments on the phone-number issue." And luckily, it doesn't appear that it will have much impact on Wednesday night's (March 11) results show, either. As of this afternoon, Grace is currently sitting in fourth place, based on Dial Idol's predictions, meaning she'll avoid elimination this week.

"It looks like she's going to be safe this week, but this could've been a huge problem, and Alexis would totally have had a reason to be upset," MJ said. "Especially given that she had the 'pimp spot' [the nickname given to the final performance of the night], if she would've gotten voted off, there probably wouldn't have been any other reason besides the phone number. It would've been very out of the ordinary."

Amid the controversy surrounding Chris Brown's two Kids' Choice Awards nominations, on Wednesday (March 11) the singer withdrew his name from the ballot. Brown had been up for Favorite Male Singer and Favorite Song (for "Kiss Kiss").

According to a statement released Wednesday, Brown made the decision to withdraw his name from the ballot. A statement from the singer's rep reads: "Chris very much appreciates the support of his fans and the honor they have paid him in the way of nominations for Favorite Male Singer and Favorite Song.

"Unfortunately, the controversy surrounding the incident last month has shifted the focus from the music to whether he should be allowed to be among those nominated. While Chris would like to speak to his fans directly about this and other issues, pending legal proceedings preclude his doing so at this time. Once the matter before him has been resolved, he intends to do so."

Nickelodeon confirmed the news via a statement released Wednesday. "We are confirming that Chris Brown has decided to withdraw his nominations from the Kids' Choice Awards," the statement reads. "We agree with and respect his decision, and are looking forward to presenting a great event for our audience."

Brown is due in court on April 6 to face charges of assault and making criminal threats, stemming from his alleged altercation with Rihanna on February 8.

T.I. Says He Has '18, 19' New Songs -- But Still Won't Talk Detox

Tip still will not confirm his work on Dr. Dre's forthcoming LP, despite leaked tracks.

When T.I. takes a vow of silence, he apparently rides it out to the end. Tip has evidently made a pledge not to divulge any information about his reported collaborations with Dr. Dre for the Doc's forthcoming Detox LP — even though an inside source confirmed the information to MTV News, and tracks have leaked (one of which was labeled "I Am Hip-Hop (Detox)," with Tip referencing verses for Dre. Still, T.I. will not open up about his work on the album.

"I heard about that," Tip said nonchalantly about the Detox tracks leaking on Monday in the New York City borough of the Bronx, where he spoke to kids at a Boys & Girls Club.

As questioning about Detox continued, T.I. replied, "Did I really reference vocals for Dr. Dre? Did Dr. Dre confirm I referenced vocals for Dr. Dre? I cannot confirm or deny my involvement with the Detox project, but if I had the chance to work with the great Dr. Dre, it would be an honor and a privilege, and definitely be a pivotal moment and highlight of my career."

T.I. had previously told MTV News that "a little birdie" told him Detox will be "phenomenal."

Tip is scheduled to face a federal judge at the end of this month on March 27, where he will learn the full details of his prison sentence. Many of Tip's peers have been reaching out for guest verses from him before he has to go away.

"I'm trying to do as much as I can," he said. "I can't make it to everybody, but I'm gonna do as much as I can."

T.I. has also been at work on a new album, but doesn't have a release date as of yet.

"As far as my own personal project, I am working and recording," he explained. "I got 18, 19 new songs."

Meet Dancehall Star And Jay-Z Collaborator Mavado

'I sing about my whole life,' Mavado says about his relatable music.
By Steven Roberts

If you live in New York City and listen to any urban radio stations, there are two songs that are always on — in fact, they are often played together, because they share the same beat, or riddim. The two songs are "No Games" and "So Special" by dancehall artists Serani and Mavado, respectively.

"No Games" is a love song in which Serani passionately questions whether or not the woman he loves feels the same. Listeners can't help but sing along and wonder woefully as well.

Mavado takes that same riddim, but transforms it with his gravelly voice, making "So Special" a celebration of overcoming adversity.

"I sing about my whole life," Mavado said. "I've been through so many things and I'm still here today, so I try to put message in my song within my life, because it's a reality."

He thinks that people relate to "So Special" because everyone experiences some kind of struggle.

"I'm not the only one that's been through struggle," he explained. "I know you must have been through some kind of struggle in your life. Everyone [has] struggled."

Mavado has been releasing music in the dancehall scene since 2004, reaching near-iconic status in Jamaica while his music also spread to cities like Toronto, London and Tokyo. He has collaborated with G-Unit on "Let It Go" and Jay-Z for the "On the Rock" remix — he also plans to work with Jigga on The Blueprint 3.

However, only a few dancehall artists have been able to achieve mainstream success. Most of the performers in the genre are criticized for their often homophobic and violent lyrics. In fact, the Broadcasting Commission of Jamaica recently banned the transmission of any songs with "daggering" lyrics, meaning those that incite violence, sexual activity or glorify guns.

Mavado insists his music only reflects the world around him.

"We're from a different culture, so we only speak of what we know about or we only speak of what we see," he explained. "If you have people that lash out against it, then that's just it — but we only speak of what we see, because I can't speak of something I can't see and something I don't know."

B.o.B Explains Why He Almost Quit The Music Biz

Posted: 11 Mar 2009 02:23 AM PDT

Rumors of the up-and-coming MC's early retirement were greatly exaggerated, he assures us.
By Shaheem Reid

ATLANTA — Earlier this year, MTV News tapped B.o.B as one of the new wave of MCs that will bust into the mainstream with major impact in 2009. How ironic was it then, when rumors of his rap retirement abounded a couple of weeks ago? A blue-chip artist quits before he even releases an album?

"I didn't quit; I didn't quit anything. I've always had music in my life, at the top of my priority list," B.o.B said Monday night at his home in Atlanta. In an exclusive sit down with MTV News, the multitalented up-and-comer said that the business of being in the rap game was so irritating, he hastily contemplated throwing his hands up at his career.

"It does get frustrating, trying to be as free as possible but at the same time working with people," he said about the art of dealing with such entities as record labels to get his music out. "At the end of the day, everything is relationships. I really had to understand that making music is great, but if you're music can't get anywhere and you can't cooperate with people, it'll just stay on your laptop. It'll stay on your computer. I'm really learning and growing as a person, aside from growing as an artist. They go hand in hand. Your talent doesn't hide your character and how you are. It always shows. That really was something I had to learn. In the process, I was applying a lot of pressure on myself to be something. To really live up to some type of hype."

B.o.B has a very healthy buzz. He's down with one of the hottest MCs in rap right now — T.I. — and has shown that he's able to stand on his own with mixtapes and the single "I'll Be in the Sky." The 20-year-old did come to a revelation about himself and his career.

"I don't have to live up to this hype," he determined. "I can just make music. The music is always what speaks. It's never anything else. At the end of the day, if you don't have talent, no one's gonna care. That's where my focus is, I'm back to the basics.

"It's the 'music business,' " he continued. "The two sides, they work together, it's a love/ hate relationship. They work together for full 360, to get the music to the people. I'm willing to go that far just for the sake of these notes that we put together."

Although B.o.B did not disclose many specifics about what triggered his now-tempered frustration with the business side of the industry, he did point out that he realizes he's not alone. Every performer goes through some type of dissatisfaction at one point or another.

"It's all the rights of passage," B.o.B said. "Every artist has been through it. Any artist who says they haven't been through it, they're lying."

B.o.B doesn't have a concrete date for his debut LP, but he is still recording and contemplating an iTunes EP soon. In the meantime, B.o.B is trying out a whole new vibe. As you'll see in his upcoming performances, like his set at the SXSW Festival, he'll be playing with a live band called the Eastsiders and introducing an alter ego named "Bobby Ray."

'American Idol' Recap: Adam Lambert, Lil Rounds, Danny Gokey Live Up To Hype

The top 13 try to put their stamp on Michael Jackson tunes.
By Gil Kaufman

There may have been a seizure-inducing new set with more flashing blue lights than a K-Mart on the first-ever top-13 performance show Tuesday on "American Idol," but one thing stayed exactly the same: Adam Lambert, Danny Gokey and Lil Rounds killed it.

The three top contenders for this year's "Idol" crown didn't disappoint, each delivering a unique, totally different take on the night's theme: the catalog of King of Pop Michael Jackson. You could tell some things were going to be a bit different, though, from the opening moments. For the first time, the four hosts were announced onto the stage and walked out shoulder-to-shoulder, with Paula Abdul doing her best hip-swiveling model walk down to the judges' pit.

Host Ryan Seacrest was next, bouncing down the long center staircase and teasing Simon Cowell, "You are loving that." Also different? At the top of the show, Cowell announced that because of the added contestant this year, two singers would be sent home on Wednesday night (March 11).

Then, at the end of the show, Ryan announced that there was going to be a surprise change unveiled on this week's results program. Simon said the public might not like this change, and Seacrest added that it "kind of changed the entire theme and concept of the show." Immediate speculation centered on the possibility that the two lowest vote-getters would have to sing for their survival, with one getting a lifeline from the judges.

But on to the performances ...

First up was Lil Rounds, who chose the slinky "The Way You Make Me Feel," putting her Aretha Franklin soul grit onto the lightweight pop tune. Randy Jackson liked her bluesy vibe. Kara DioGuardi warned the rest of the contestants to watch out and said she hoped to hear Rounds on the radio someday. The solid start was marred by Simon, who said he thought the song choice was a bit lazy and critiqued Rounds' white pants and ruffled, champagne-colored one-shoulder top.

Ryan reiterated several times that the 13th contestant would have a "special" phone number. That's because the IDOLS13 number "Idol" would have used for the first-ever 13th slot is otherwise occupied — by a phone sex line.

Fellow front-runner Danny Gokey gave "P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)" a shot, slowing down the intro to the song into a fireside ballad and then bursting out into a funk groove. He punched the air and stomped his way across the front of the stage as he gave the song a raucous gospel flair that got three of the four judges out of their seats dancing.

"The true mark of an artist is when you can hear somebody and know exactly who they are," Paula said, predicting Gokey was already on his way to the finals. Simon said the vocals were "brilliant," comparing his white-guy soul to Michael McDonald, but docking him some points for his "hideous" dancing.

Adam Lambert has emerged as the one to beat, and the Michael Jackson fan and musical-theater veteran leaned heavily on his falsetto for the funky "Black or White." His way-amped performance gave the song a "Rocky Horror Picture Show"-meets-'80s-hair-metal vibe that once again blew the judges away.

"Never in the history of 'American Idol,' have we ... seen someone so comfortable, seasoned on the stage. ... You've got the whole package," Paula said, bringing tears to Lambert's eyes.

"That was, to me, in a totally different league to everything else we've seen and heard tonight," Simon said, praising Lambert's ability to do an original take on Jackson and not be afraid to go over-the-top with it. Kara said it was so good she hoped MJ was watching the show.

As for the rest, Scott MacIntyre was back where he's most comfortable, behind a piano, for Jackson's inspirational but obscure ballad "Keep the Faith." He gave the song a Ben Folds-like bounce, and Kara was glad to see him back at a keyboard singing a song with a hopeful message that fits his inspirational story. Simon said he hated the song because nobody knows it and told Scott to be artistic, "but not on this show."

Texas roughneck oil-rigger Michael Sarver brought out his sensitive side with the big-screen weeper "You Are Not Alone," standing center stage and putting some soulful gospel fire into the tune. Simon said that despite not being the best singer in the competition, he made up for it with "passion, heart" and effort.

Jasmine Murray, 17, went with the Jackson 5 classic "I'll Be There," wowing the crowd with the strength and clarity of her voice. Randy couldn't help but notice that Murray did a nice job mixing the Jackson version and the Mariah Carey cover (did he mention that he worked on it?). Kara said Murray really sold it with her great stage presence. Simon called it a good attempt that was a bit robotic at times and once again urged her to lighten up and act her age, not "like a little girl acting like a grown-up."

The first and only guitar of the night was strapped to Kris Allen, who strummed his way through "Remember the Time," giving the sharp-edged song some softer, blue-eyed soul vibes à la Jason Mraz. "One thing's for sure, the girls love you," Kara said over the squeals of the ladies in the crowd. Paula called him "adorable sexy," while Simon thought the song didn't really suit the guitar, which made it clumsy.

This year's youngest contestant, 16-year-old Allison Iraheta, chose the fairly obscure "Give in to Me," rocking it up with her signature growl to give it a Pink-like edge. Paula called her a rock star, and Simon admired her confidence, saying it was clear she knows what kind of artist she wants to be. Randy predicted that Iraheta was the one to watch in the competition.

Anoop Desai took a major risk by choosing the iconic "Beat It," popping the collar on his gray jacket and rocking a bit of a sneer as he strutted defiantly across the stage. Paula uncharacteristically brought some bad news, calling the song "untouchable" and said anything else sounds karaoke. Simon said it was plain horrible, adding that "it was all very lightweight. It actually looked a bit stupid ... like someone trying to be Michael Jackson and failing."

Puerto Rico's Jorge Nuñez also went with the Jackson 5, dipping into the disco-ball smoothie "Never Can Say Goodbye." Sounding a bit like Diana Ross with a frog in her throat, he brought a smiling, sunny vibe to the melancholy song of yearning. Randy said it was a bit too old-fashioned, and Simon agreed.

Unlike so many of this year's performers, Megan Joy Corkrey said she'd never really sung in public before auditioning for the show. But you would have never guessed it from her throwback '50s, malt-shop take on the Jackson 5's "Rockin' Robin," during which she growled and squeaked adorably while adding a few more shakes and shimmies to her signature dance, as well as a crow call at the end. "You have a way of putting your signature on everything you touch," Kara said. Simon was not so kind, lashing her for her "stupid" song choice, tepid and "ridiculous" vocals, and an overall awkward performance.

Matt Giraud went the ballad route, sitting at a grand piano for the candlelight slow burner "Human Nature," once again channeling Justin Timberlake, down to the stubbly beard and silky-smooth falsetto runs. Randy praised his Thicke/Timberlake style. Simon said it was good, albeit "meat and potatoes" compared to Lambert's throwdown, which came just before him.

The night ended with Alexis Grace, the 21-year-old Memphis belle who stepped up to "Dirty Diana," initially rushing the lyrics, but then settling into a sandpaper-and-silk Tina Turner power vocal with a gospel edge. "You're back!" Kara said, adding, "You're a naughty girl, and I liked it." Paula warned her to watch the over-singing. Simon said it was a bit over-the-top and not as good as she might have thought. Of course, as the unlucky 13th contestant, Grace also faced the extra hurdle of the awkward IDOLS36 phone number. If she gets the boot on Wednesday, get ready for her supporters to blame it on a phone snafu.

Father Of Chris Brown's Manager Denies Romance Rumors

Dad denies claims that Tina Davis is the woman who sparked singer's alleged altercation with Rihanna.
By Gil Kaufman

On the same day that TMZ reported that Chris Brown's manager, Tina Davis, is reportedly the "other" woman whose text message triggered the alleged altercation between Brown and girlfriend Rihanna a month ago, Davis' father said the rumors are untrue.

TMZ reported that Davis, 39, who is rumored to have carried on a romantic relationship with the 19-year-old Brown when he was 16, is the person who texted the singer on the night of the incident, referred to in the police report as "a woman who Brown had a previous sexual relationship with."

The manager's father, George Davis, however, told E! News that the latest speculation surrounding his daughter is nothing more than the rehashing of "old rumors."

"They were saying that before. Those are old rumors," he reportedly told the site.

Brown's camp has long denied that that the singer and Davis were ever romantically involved, releasing a statement to Vibe magazine in November 2007 that said, "Chris Brown and his manager, Tina Davis, have a strictly professional relationship.

"Ms. Davis has been instrumental in helping Chris achieve success as a multi-talented singer/dancer/actor," the statement continued. "Rumors that the relationship goes beyond a working one, are not only patently false; they diminish her efforts and his undeniable talents."

Davis could not be reached for comment by MTV News on Tuesday. A spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office would not confirm whether Davis sent the text, telling MTV News, "Brown has not been arraigned yet, so we will not be commenting on the matter." Brown appeared in court last Thursday, hours after he was charged with two felony counts of assault and making criminal threats. He is due back in court April 6 to be arraigned and enter a plea in the case.

Mandy Moore and Ryan Adams are married, a rep for Moore confirmed to MTV News.

The report of their marriage originally appeared on PerezHilton.com. According to the gossip site, Moore and Adams got married Tuesday in an intimate ceremony in Savannah, Georgia. A source told the site, "She's very, very happy." The couple got engaged in February after dating on and off. Another source told Perez that Adams "is completely head-over-heels about her and a changed man."

The couple started dating in December 2007, according to E! News, but didn't make their relationship public until last March. Adams was quite vocal about why the couple broke up the following July, blaming the media's constant presence as a cause. "Unfortunately, I am allergic to paparazzi and have found the best antidote to that sort of nonsense is staying behind the guitar and typewriter," he said of the breakup. "[I'm] staying close to my support group of friends and bandmates and not engaging in activities that prevent me from taking care of myself or others."

Soon after the split, Moore was seen hanging out with former flame DJ AM after he survived a deadly plane crash, though the renewed relationship didn't last long. Before long, Adams and Moore had reunited and were soon after engaged.

"He's a good egg," Moore told the new issue of Marie Claire, reports Just Jared. "I'm in awe of him: his brain, his passion. He's truly one of a kind."
