While details have been largely kept under wraps, some information has emerged about Beyoncé's forthcoming, still-untitled third solo LP, which is slated for release on November 18 on Music World Music/ Columbia.

Justin Timberlake will appear on the LP, although further details on his involvement were not available at press time. The two sang together on a cover of the 1968 Marvin Gaye/ Tammi Terrell hit "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing" at the Fashion Rocks concert in New York last weekend.

Timberlake told reporters outside the show, "I'll be in the studio this week with Beyoncé. Who knows what will come out of that?" according to MTV News U.K.

Beyoncé co-wrote or co-produced all the material on the album, which the label says comprises "her most personal, reflective and revelatory collection to-date."

Songwriter/ producer Sean Garrett (Mary J. Blige, Usher, Fergie) revealed to MTV News on the VMA red carpet that he's been Beyoncé's album. "I got to get a big secret out: Beyoncé!" he said. "I just finished some incredible records with her. She's probably going to be mad at me for telling you all — sorry, B!"

Producer Jim Jonsin (Lil Wayne's "Lollipop," T.I., Danity Kane) reportedly worked with the singer on the song the track "Beautiful Nightmare," which leaked earlier this year, although it was unclear at press time whether the song will appear on the LP.

Two tracks from the album, "If I Were a Boy" and "Single Ladies," will be released in advance of the LP on October 7, according to the label. Beyoncé filmed a video for an undisclosed song in New York on Thursday.

Beyoncé also has two films in the works: She appears as legendary singer Etta James in "Cadillac Records," which does not yet have a release date, and the wife of a man being stalked in "Obsessed," due early next year.

Kanye West and his road manager, Don Crowley, were released Thursday afternoon (September 11) from the Los Angeles Police Department's Pacific Division on $20,000 bail following their arrests Thursday morning by Los Angeles International Airport police near the American Airlines terminal. Both men were charged with felony vandalism stemming from an incident at LAX that involved members of the paparazzi, according to a spokesperson for the airport's public-relations office.

According to police, West and Crowley were waiting for a flight to Honolulu, when they were met by a photographer and videographer, who started taking their photos. An altercation ensued, and the cameras of both paparazzi were damaged by West and Crowley.

On Thursday, TMZ.com reported that West was arrested after grabbing a camera — valued at more than $10,000 — that belonged to a member of the paparazzi and throwing it to the ground, smashing it. When the photographer approached the rapper and began taking pictures of him, West confronted him, grabbed his camera and hurled it to the ground.

Another paparazzo began videotaping the incident, which prompted the rapper's manager to grab that camera. A struggle followed, and Crowley threw that camera against the ground, damaging it.

When West and Crowley tried to leave the scene to make their plane, police stopped them both. When police asked the second paparazzo if he'd caught the incident on tape, he told them he had. West allegedly lunged for the tape, instructing the cameraman to "gimme that f---ing tape." But police restrained West and took him into custody.

Initial reports suggested that Crowley was additionally charged with battery. However, police determined that no battery had occurred, following their initial investigation.

At press time, representatives for West had not yet commented on the incident.

Britney Spears' Collaborators Promise New Album Will Be Her Real Comeback

Sean Garrett and Keri Hilson say they're pushing the pop star, musically and lyrically.

If Britney Spears' performance at last year's VMAs was a bad omen for her subsequent release of Blackout, it stands to reason that Brit's new album may be as promising as her successful appearance at the 2008 VMAs. And the producers of her new work in progress assure us that's the case.

"You always want to give her something she can feel intrigued by, because she's done so much," songwriter and producer Sean Garrett told MTV News. "She's had some incredible albums. She's been through so much, so you want to do things that will raise her eyebrows as well as her fans', so we're going to work really hard to give her something exceptionally special."

The singer has been popping in and out of recording sessions in Los Angeles and Las Vegas all summer, and she's been lining up a steady stream of collaborators for the new album, including Rodney Jerkins, Nate "Danjahandz" Hills, Keri Hilson and even Lil Jon.

Getting Spears' music back in the clubs is a priority, Garrett said, but he's also working on giving her songs with a longer shelf life than your average dance track.

"This time, we're going to try some different sounds," he said. "We're really trying to push the sound limits. We're definitely going to make sure it's hot, you know, great songs that fans will go crazy over, but I'm not just [aiming to] 'stay in the clubs.' If it's a ballad, a midtempo, fusing techno with hip-hop or whatever it is, what matters is that it has some sounds we've never heard before."

While Garrett wants to push Spears sonically, Hilson said she wants to push the singer lyrically and get some more meaningful songs on the album.

"Of course, everybody's giving her party smashes, and I've heard some of them, and they're great," Hilson said. "But I think we can dig a little deeper this time. I want it to feel a little more real and organic. That's where I want to go with her."

Hilson is due to sit down with Spears in the next week to get on the same page. "We need to figure it out," she said. "Sit down, have a conversation, and see what she's feeling at the moment, and take a bird's-eye view of that."

Beyond that, Hilson doesn't want to overplan her writing sessions with Spears. "Songwriting is one of the most unorthodox things in the world," she said. "Songs come from all sorts of different ways, places and times."

Garrett, meanwhile, is going to play his cards close to his chest for this project. "What's smart to do is not to tell anybody too much about it while it's happening," he said. "Don't tell anybody. Everything is so predictable these days, because the information is right there and no one is keeping secrets anymore. Remember how Michael Jackson used to be mysterious? That's what superstars should do."

And though Brit's collaborators won't spill the details, they will express confidence that we'll like what we hear, once we hear it.

"I'm sure it'll be great," Hilson said. "She's very focused."

"It'll be her real comeback," Garrett said. "At the end of the day, it's about the music, and this is incredible music."

Into Eternity Tackle Incurable Tragedy; Plus Suffocation, Earth Crisis & More News That Rules, In Metal File

'It was very therapeutic for me,' guitarist Tim Roth says of writing the new LP's personal material.
By Chris Harris

For months, Tim Roth just couldn't sleep.

The guitarist for Canadian metal outfit Into Eternity would sit up at night — an acoustic guitar nestled in his arms — thinking about his two best friends, brothers Dave and Danny Stephenson. He'd sit there and conceive riffs. He'd write melodies and craft entire songs. It was his only release.

"It was very therapeutic for me," Roth said of the material he wrote for the band's fifth LP, The Incurable Tragedy, which was released last week. "For me, music is just an art form by which I can express myself. Looking back, I can see that it does seem kind of crazy, what I did."

Roth's whole world was upended by tragedy last year, when his two best friends — and roommates — both developed a rare form of stomach cancer. The disease claimed 36-year-old Dave's life on September 21, 2006, and claimed 34-year-old Danny's life little more than a month later.

"It was the worst time of my life, no question," Roth explained. "We're the type of band that always writes about real things. We don't write about demons or wizards but things that are happening in our lives, and that was obviously something we had to write about. I couldn't imagine writing about anything else."

The band decided that the riffs, melodies and material Roth had written in the wake of his friends' passing would be used to assemble The Incurable Tragedy and that the lyrics would be conceptual in nature. They'd focus on a man's struggle with cancer and, in essence, serve as a tribute to the Stephensons, who'd often join the band on tour and sell Into Eternity's merch.

"So I was writing the album, and my dad comes up to me and says, 'I have cancer now,' " Roth recalled. "Here we are, writing a concept record about cancer, and then, for that to happen while I'm writing it — for my dad to go through the exact same thing and die [nine days before Christmas] — was just unbelievable. Bad things happen in threes, I guess."

Surprisingly, The Incurable Tragedy isn't an angry album. If anything, it's a depressing one, and Roth admits as much. "There's one song about rage, specifically, but overall, it's more depressing," the guitarist said. "It's more about loss, but the melodies are still there. You can still sing along to them — you just may be in tears afterward."

Into Eternity, who begin a U.S. tour with Iced Earth and Saviours on September 21 in Detroit, employed piano and acoustic guitar for the first time on The Incurable Tragedy, which may shock some of the band's longtime fans. Roth also thinks fans will be surprised by how blunt the lyrics are. But the album wasn't designed to convey a message — it was supposed to help Roth heal.

That plan backfired, because now, Roth said he's reminded of all the pain he'd endured on an almost-daily basis.

"I never thought, 'OK, now I'll have to play these songs every night, and I'll be doing press and talking about it,' " he said. "At the time, I wasn't thinking of anything. Looking back on it now, I probably should have kept things private."

The rest of the week's metal news:

During last weekend's Carcass reunion gig in New York, death-metal outfit Suffocation gave fans a preview of their forthcoming LP, Blood Oath. The band played a new song from the effort, called "Mental Hemorrhage," and if that track is any indication, Blood Oath is going to be a monster. ... The reunited Earth Crisis have inked a deal with Century Media, which will be releasing the band's forthcoming self-produced LP. The band will begin tracking that effort next month, with Tue Madsen (the Haunted, Sick of It All) behind the boards. ...

Abigail Williams, Neuraxis, the Faceless, Decrepit Birth and Veil of Maya will be hitting the road next month for an extensive North American tour. The trek kicks off in Anaheim, California, on October 17, and dates are booked through November 22 in San Diego. ... New York metallers the Red Death have called it quits, as their members pursue different projects and pursuits. But before they put the band to bed for good, they'll be playing a trio of New York gigs — the first is set for September 13 in Binghamton, another scheduled for September 27 in Watertown, and the last is slated for Halloween night in Bath. ...

Every Time I Die, the Bronx and Stick to Your Guns will be hitting the road together in November. That tour will commence November 1 in Quebec City, Quebec, and dates are scheduled through November 23 in Syracuse. ... Fear Before the March of Flames decided to change their name; What to, you wonder? Well, oddly, they've renamed themselves Fear Before and are planning to release a self-titled album October 28. Guitarist Adam Fisher said they've changed the name of the band because, "In so many ways, we're a new band." Fear Before, huh? Yeah, that's a much better name, guys. ...

Swedish melodic-death-metal act Scar Symmetry parted ways with vocalist Christian Älvestam. "The reasons are mainly the clichéd 'business and creative differences' and lack of interpersonal chemistry," the band said in a statement. "We came to a point where the band's existence was in jeopardy because of these differences, and the only way for us to continue with an inspired state of mind was to go through with this change in the lineup." The band plans to reveal the name of its new frontman soon. In the meantime, Älvestam had this to say about the move: "After discussions between us in the band, I'm sad to say we've decided to part ways — mainly, for reasons of different outlooks on musical production and touring." ...

Bone Gnawer have signed with Pulverised Records, which will issue the band's next album. The group is currently working on that effort. Those unfamiliar with the band can check out their MySpace page. ... Necrodeath have added guitarist Pier Gonella to their ranks. He's been touring with the band the last two years but was only recently made an official member. Meanwhile, the band is now down a bassist with the departure of John (apparently dude doesn't have a last name). John is said to have left for "personal reasons," and his replacement will be announced soon.

Still on a European promotional tour in support of "Camp Rock", the Jonas Brothers have opened up once again about the comments Russell Brand made about their purity rings at the VMAs on Sunday.

Speaking to MTV News in the U.K. in Wednesday, Nick Jonas, 15, said, "I don't know if there is really a positive" to come out of Brand's comments, adding, "He was kind of running out of material after a little while."

The boys, who said earlier that they had no hard feelings over the British comic's comments, expressed even more affection for him. "I'd give him a hug," Joe said. "I think he needs a hug!"

Also on Wednesday, Jordin Sparks talked about her comments at the VMAs in defense of the Brothers' promise rings.

(The flap over Brand's comments actually inspired an abstinence-group leader to send Sarah Palin's daughter a purity ring, which he said would be delivered by Republican presidential nominee John McCain's daughter Meghan.)

The boys also talked about how jazzed they were to meet first-time VMA winner Britney Spears.

"We met a lot of people there," Joe said. "We met Britney Spears and she was incredible!"

On Sunday, before the guys hit the VMAs, they told UsMagazine.com that their goal for the night was to meet Brit, who turned out to be the night's big winner. "We really hope we get to meet her," Kevin told the site following their rehearsal of their new single, "Lovebug." "That would be an honor," Kevin added. "I wanna meet her," Nick said. "She was the first CD I ever bought, so it would be cool," Joe revealed. "You want to pull for Britney and hope for the best," Kevin added.

Although the guys didn't win any awards, they were true to their word.

"It was an honor to lose to her, as well," Kevin told MTV News U.K.

At the "Camp Rock" London premiere, the brothers were joined on the red carpet by co-star Demi Lovato; they all performed live after the screening.

"We're so excited to be here in London to celebrate the European premiere of 'Camp Rock,' Joe told The Press Association. "The reaction from our U.K. fans has been incredible and we are so appreciative."

Daddy Yankee Defends His Decision To Back John McCain

Reggaetón artist won't accept Fat Joe's challenge to a political debate.

Daddy Yankee has gone on the defensive after his endorsement of Republican presidential nominee John McCain prompted Fat Joe to dub him "a sellout."

"A man does not sell out when he backs his ideals," the Latin Grammy-winning reggaetón artist told the New York Post from his home in Puerto Rico.

Yankee's unwavering support of the Arizona senator shocked several in the hip-hop community, but that doesn't mean Yankee is about to stop backing the man he feels is best suited for the gig.

"I don't care who I piss off," Yankee told the Post, while promoting the movie he produced and stars in, "Talento del Barrio." "This is about my ideals, not about making friends. Senator McCain is the kind of man whose promises you can actually believe in."

Yankee met McCain in 2006, when both were included in Time magazine's list of 100 People Who Shaped Our World. He said he hit it off with McCain and recently visited Washington, D.C., to meet with the senator.

"I like his stance on immigration reform, that he works across party lines to help immigrants, that he agreed to take a look and help the dire situation of aid to the veterans of Puerto Rico," Yankee said. "It's not fair that Boricua soldiers die and fight in wars and don't get the same benefits as those on the mainland. I like that el senador agreed to take a serious look and help those kinds of issues affecting us on the island."

When asked if he ever considered Democratic nominee Barack Obama for the nation's highest office, Yankee said "never — not for a minute." He also tiptoed around Fat Joe's challenge to a debate, saying, "Look, I'm not a politician. I am a man with ideals, and I think that el Senador McCain is the best candidate. I asked el senador point-blank about whether or not he will seriously help Puerto Rico and our veterans here, and he said, 'Yes. You endorse me, and I will do it.' I believe he will back up his word."

As a Puerto Rican resident, Daddy Yankee can't vote for president, but he urged other Latinos to participate in the election. "There are 18.1 million Latinos who are eligible," he said. "Let your voices be heard."

Katy Perry is ready to stop kissing girls. Last week in L.A., the singer was hard at work on the video for her latest single, "Hot n Cold." The pop star, who worked with director Alan Ferguson on the video, spoke to MTV News about the clip's treatment while on the set.

"Well, 'I Kissed a Girl' was a bit of that cutesy boop-boop-be-doop-boop," she said. "And I think 'Hot n Cold' has many different looks and situations.

"Whether I'm in a bridal gown, or I'm in a rejected bridal gown 'cause my groom is running away from me this whole time," she added. "Or there's a zebra. I don't want to give too much away. Think zebra."

Perry also revealed her post-VMA plans, which include spanning the globe to promote her album, One of the Boys. "I'm going to London and Paris," she said. "It's coming out soon in the rest of the world. I can't wait!"

Despite being a relatively new solo act, she'll have a whole posse to keep her company. "It's [just] promoting, but we're taking the whole crew," the singer said. "We got, like, 14 people with us."

Perry also said that she'll be too busy to even sleep: "There's no time for sleep. Sleep is so foreign for me, even in a foreign country. I'm just going to pop one of those, like, jet-lag things and be like, 'I'm ready to go.' "
