It's Pop Week here at MTV News, and that means we're catching up with and getting to know everyone who's going to make a splash in pop music and culture over the next 12 months. Whether they're just arriving on the scene or are already the name on everyone's lips, these are the artists we expect big things from in 2009.

They make girls swoon and hearts beat faster. They're the guys that girls hang posters of on their bedroom walls. Whether they star in movies, make music or do a little bit of both, these guys aren't going anywhere in 2009. In fact, girls wouldn't know what to do with themselves if they did. Quite frankly, they are as nice to look at as they are talented in their various jobs. These are MTV News' Pop Week Male MVPs, and here's what 2009 will bring for them.

Robert Pattinson
After making millions of girls want to have a vampire love affair in "Twilight," English heartthrob Robert Pattinson will reprise his role as Edward Cullen in this year's "New Moon." But he also hopes to wow audiences as the young surrealist painter Salvador Dalí in the film "Little Ashes," which chronicles the early life of the brilliant artist and explores his romantic relationship with poet Federico García Lorca, played by Javier Beltran.

Chris Brown
In 2008, Chris Brown solidified his reputation as an R&B star, but in 2009 the singer and dancer will focus his efforts on his acting career. He has several films lined up, including "Phenom" and the T.I.-produced film "The Heist." "I'm playing a killer. I'm not going to give anything else away!" he told MTV News about the role. "It's a bank-robbing movie, so it's one of those action-packed films. You get a little different side of me in that movie. It will be very entertaining."

Zac Efron
He may not be playing 17 in anymore "High School Musical" movies, but the 21-year-old will be playing the 17-year-old version of Matthew Perry's character Mike O'Donnell in "17 Again." He also recently worked on "Me and Orson Welles" and is confirmed to tackle the "Footloose" remake. "It's great," he said. "I couldn't be more excited [to have Kevin Bacon's blessing]. He's the man."

Jonas Brothers
Is there anything these guys can't do? Last year, they starred in "Camp Rock," released A Little Bit Longer and just generally made girls scream in delight. This year they are taking it up a notch or two by starring in their own TV show, "J.O.N.A.S.," starring in their own 3-D concert movie, starring in their own feature film and once again making girls swoon. According to their MySpace page, the boys will also embark on a tour and release a new single for "Tonight." Did we mention they're also up for a Grammy? Phew!

Shia LaBeouf
He has quickly transformed himself from "Even Stevens" to action stud. Last year, LaBeouf starred alongside Harrison Ford in "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," and this year he'll be reprising his role as Sam Witwicky in the "Transformers" sequel "Revenge of the Fallen." On top of that, LaBeouf will star in the smaller film "New York, I Love You," the sequel to "Paris, Je T'aime." The film follows relationships in New York.

Aubrey O'Day Wants A 'Positive Perez Hilton' To Emerge In 2009

'There is so much negativity out there, and it's doing no one any good,' ex-Danity Kane member insists.

It's Pop Week here at MTV News, and that means we're catching up with and getting to know everyone who's going to make a splash in pop music and culture over the next 12 months. Whether they're just arriving on the scene or are already the name on everyone's lips, these are the artists we expect big things from in 2009.

Aubrey O'Day doesn't have a problem with most blogs — which isn't surprising, given how often the former Danity Kane member finds herself on them. But she does have some criticism for people who might be compelled to dis her online.

"I think that we have become obsessed with Internet blogging," the Female Pop MVP told MTV News. "And I think that there is so much negativity out there, and it's doing no one any good. It's not doing the people that sit there and think of the nasty thoughts and spend the 10 to 20 hours of their day typing them up [any good].

"It's not doing the people that read them any good [either], because it's just consistently putting negativity in the air," she added.

So she's proposing a new plan for 2009, and it involves her biggest critic: Perez Hilton.

"Let's put something good out there in the world, and if we can have Obama as our president, we can get the new Perez Hilton," she said. "The positive Perez Hilton. I'd like to see that in 2009."

She expanded on her plan a bit, challenging someone "to go out there and start a blog that just focuses on the positive things people are doing [and] create a positive place for people to go and feel good about themselves."

She thinks all the negativity on the Internet isn't helping anyone. "It's not really doing anyone any good, and, you know, we are all so addicted to it," she said. "And maybe sit back and ask yourself why."

Blink-182 Fans Skeptical Of Mark Hoppus' Reunion Talk

Others are upset about +44's demise: 'Wow, I just cried,' one commenter wrote.

Throughout the week, we've been posting segments of our interview with Mark Hoppus. In part one, he spoke about reconnecting with his estranged bandmate, Tom DeLonge, and the possibilities of a full-blown Blink-182 reunion. In part two, he revealed plans for a solo album and said his other band, +44, is pretty much finished.

And while Hoppus has done most of the talking, we've also been hearing plenty from you too. Seems you've had plenty to say — not just about a reunited Blink, but about the end of +44 and the prospects of a Hoppus solo album. So we've decided to collect some of your best comments here.

It seems that pretty much everyone is in agreement that a Blink reunion would be a good thing, but some aren't so positive that it's really a sure thing.

"Tom [DeLonge] has made it very clear that a Blink reunion will not be happening ... in a recent interview from The Electric New Paper, [he said,] 'I can understand if people in the audience want Blink-182 songs ... but I don't think we need to play any of them. [Angels & Airwaves] is already an established band,' " MTV.com user Skalor wrote. "I am very happy to see Tom become friends with Mark and Travis, but please give the Blink talk a rest."

Others maintained that if the money were right, then it would top any longstanding beefs, and a Blink reunion is a near certainty.

"If the money is there — and it will be — they'll tour again. They don't have to get along on an artistic level to tour. In fact, they don't even have to write any new music," MCarpo wrote. "Although it would be nice if they did. Blink's music really evolved over time, and based on their post-Blink bands, Mark and Tom really need to challenge each other. By the way, +44's record was really good. Not sure why Mark didn't do more with those guys."

Oh yeah, and about +44. Judging from the comments we got, perhaps Hoppus should think twice before putting the project to bed and focusing on his solo record.

"This is so sad! +44 was my favorite band. I can't believe it," Alfred44 wrote. "And what about [+44 members] Craig and Shane??? That's unfair. This ruined my day!"

"Wow, I just cried," Theconster17 added.

Still, others are optimistic. After all, any music from Hoppus would be a good thing. And, who knows: With +44 out of the way, anything could happen.

"I don't think a solo album is a good idea, not because it wouldn't be good, but because it would probably take forever to come out. I don't know if he's just not motivated, or if he's just not a prolific songwriter (which is fine, considering that the ones he does write are really good), but three years after +44, he has nothing else ready to go," MCarpo wrote. "Mark wants to dabble in too many areas to focus on music right now. That's cool, I wish him luck. BTW, can't wait to hear the record he produced for New Found Glory."

"That's only so Blink can get back together," Chaser182 added about +44's demise.

Hip-hop star Nas and his wife, singer Kelis, are expecting their first child together, Us Weekly reported Wednesday (January 14).

A source reportedly told Us that the "Milkshake" singer is in her first trimester. "It's all they are talking about," the source told the magazine. "She is carrying hip-hop royalty! They are so excited." The source said mother-to-be Kelis already has a baby bump.

Nas has a daughter, Destiny, from a previous relationship.

The couple wed in January 2005 after a two-year courtship. The New York natives were married in Atlanta, where they keep a home. Nas' brother, Braveheart member Jungle, served as the best man.

The pair raised eyebrows on the 2008 Grammy Awards red carpet. The rapper was in the midst of promoting his project, then titled N---er and later released as an untitled album, and his wife showed her support by wearing a jacket adorned with the racial epithet.

Nas said their personal life isn't nearly as attention-grabbing. The two were set to appear in an MTV reality show about their life together, but the introverted rapper put the kibosh on the project before it could air. Nas cited privacy concerns, in addition to his marriage just being a normal relationship. He called their lives "boring" and said the only reality he was comfortable with was his music.

At press time, representatives for Nas and Kelis had no comment about the reported pregnancy.

'American Idol' Judge Kara DioGuardi Defends 'Bikini Girl' Attack

'We wouldn't be talking about the bikini if she killed the song,' singer/songwriter says of scantily clad contestant.

Kara DioGuardi wasn't afraid to get a little nasty on her premiere episode as the fourth "American Idol" judge Tuesday. And she has no regrets about her verbal scuffle with 20-year-old contestant Katrina "Bikini Girl" Darrell.

"I love pretty girls," DioGuardi told Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS-FM radio show Wednesday (January 14). "The thing with Bikini Girl — to be honest — I thought she had a better body than ... face."

When Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson let the bikini-clad Darrell through after a mediocre version of Mariah Carey's "Vision of Love," DioGuardi railed against the decision, saying she lacked "swing." To prove to Darrell how it should have been done, DioGuardi sang the song herself — to which Darrell replied, "Your demonstration wasn't any better."

Although she had no positive things to say about her singing talent, DioGuardi did have some kind words for Bikini Girl. "To her credit, she's gotten so much attention. It was probably a good call to wear the bikini at the end of the day," DioGuardi said. "But we wouldn't be talking about the bikini if she killed the song."

The new judge also said she's aware that looks matter when you're working on a TV talent show.

"Of course I want a pretty girl, but I'm not just looking for a pretty girl," DioGuardi said about her standards for female contestants. "I'm looking for an incredible voice, great stage presence. I'm a big champion of women. I'm not the kind of woman who's going to drag a woman down."

Rick Ross Promises 'A Lot Of Problems' From 'Scathing' Dis Track

'I had to address a few things, I had to address a few people,' MC says of song called 'Mafia Music.'

It is official: Rick Ross is off of Slip-N-Slide Records and will be putting out his next album on his own label, Maybach Music Group. The imprint's first release will be Ross' Deeper Than Rap and is slated for an April release. Within the next week or so we'll hear two songs off of the opus, one of which is called "I'm the Magnificent."

"That's what makes the record real special," Ross said Wednesday (January 14) via phone from Atlanta. "It just takes everybody a little deeper into my world. Everybody can just musically hear the growth. The content is something that's most definitely something real special. The track was produced by the J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League. I got John Legend himself on the chorus. It's something real big and creative. I haven't heard John on this type of vibe."

The second of Ross' two-fisted delivery isn't going to be so celebratory. He has to vent!

"I can't lie: I'm dropping the B-side. It's titled 'Mafia Music' and it's gonna cause a lot of problems," he explained. "It's a scathing four-and-half-minute nonstop flow, me being autobiographical about my life and my come-up and my triumph. Of course, I had to address a few things, I had to address a few people. I love it. The thing is, some people are gonna be — um — they're gonna be f---ed up. That's the best way I can put it."

Ross said the album is about 85 percent finished.

"I'm still doing huge records every day," the Miami king said. "Just putting it together. I ain't in no rush."

"As you continue to live, you can never predict how far it's gonna go," he added about his evolution on the LP. "We got a black president now. Most definitely that should affect everyone's thought process. It's time to really boss up."

Ross and his crew are headed to Washington, D.C., this weekend for Obama's inauguration — and MTV News will be there too.

Run-DMC, Metallica Headed To Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame

Metal and hip-hop acts will be inducted in April 4 ceremony.
By James Montgomery

Influential metal act Metallica and groundbreaking hip-hop group Run-DMC headline the 2009 class of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees, which were announced Wednesday (January 14) at a press conference in New York.

Guitar great Jeff Beck, singer/songwriter Bobby Womack, doo-wop heavyweights Little Anthony & the Imperials and pioneering country artist Wanda Jackson were also tapped to be enshrined at this year's ceremony, which will take place April 4 at the historic Public Hall in Cleveland.

Since being founded in 1983, the Rock Hall has been criticized for being slow to recognize some bands and genres, but the induction of Metallica and Run-DMC (plus that of acts like Black Sabbath and Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five in recent years) seems to indicate that is changing.

Formed in Los Angeles in 1981, Metallica rose from humble beginnings to become one of the (if not the) biggest and most influential heavy metal bands on the planet. Their 1983 debut, Kill 'Em All, is widely considered one of the first thrash-metal albums, thanks to it's blitzkrieg riffs and breakneck tempo. Their subsequent albums — 1984's Ride the Lightning, 1986's Master of Puppets and 1988's ... And Justice for All — saw the band expanding not just their sound, but their audience. Their self-titled 1991 album (also known as "the black album" for its iconic onyx cover) made them one of the biggest bands in the world, with a long run at #1 on the Billboard albums chart and selling a staggering 22 million copies worldwide. Last year, they released the return-to-form Death Magnetic, which also debuted atop the Billboard charts and was one of 2008's biggest-selling albums.

Ironically, Run-DMC's video for "King of Rock" shows them wrecking havoc in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The group famously formed in Hollis, Queens, in the early '80s and released their debut single, "It's Like That," in 1983. Their first three albums (1984's self-titled debut, 1985's King of Rock and 1986's Raising Hell) are considered to be among the most important hip-hop albums ever released. With their stylish dress, sample-heavy tracks and streetwise lingo, the group is often credited with bringing hip-hop to the mainstream. They gave the genre credibility when they teamed up with Aerosmith for the hit "Walk This Way," were the first rap group to be featured on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine and were one of the first hip-hop acts to have videos in constant rotation on MTV.

In 2002, Jam Master Jay — the bedrock of the group and the man responsible for their stark soundscapes — was murdered in his Queens studio, effectively bringing Run-DMC to an end. In 2007, MTV's Hip-Hop Brain Trust named them the Greatest Hip-Hop Group of All Time.

Nominees who weren't selected for induction in 2009 included proto-punks the Stooges, and a pair of influential funk acts, War and Chic. Artists are eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first record, and inductees are selected by a panel of 500 "rock experts" who evaluate each candidate.

Aubrey O'Day Confesses: She (And Her Dog) Are 'Obsessed With Miley Cyrus'

Ex-Danity Kane singer even dresses her dog in 'Hannah Montana' gear.

Aubrey O'Day

Not a lot of things are shocking when it comes to Aubrey O'Day. She isn't too shy to talk about her sexuality, pose for Playboy magazine, or dress provocatively. But O'Day has managed to shock with this latest revelation: She's a big Miley Cyrus fan!

"[My dog] Ginger and I are obsessed with Miley Cyrus!" she revealed to MTV News. "And we both sleep in her PJs!"

Her loyalty to the Miley brand doesn't end with just wearing Miley PJ's to bed. She also decided to personalize her dog's "Hannah Montana" gear.

"I bought a little Miley shirt from Target for her and I tied it up and put jewels, so that's her night wear," she added. "And I have my PJs, so we love Miley. Miley's amazing!"

Recently, O'Day opened up to MTV News about the rumors surrounding her sexuality that started to spread after she began hitting parties with girls on her arm. She told us that she doesn't care what people say, because she "just wants to be real."

"I think it's funny that so many people care," O'Day said. "I mean, half the time, I don't even know who I'm gonna love or what I'm gonna feel comfortable exposing myself to."

She added, "I think [the fact] that so many people are wondering along with me definitely puts pressure on my choices! ... But one thing that I have to say about me that's really always gonna be true, whether people like it or not, is I'm just gonna be me."
