Justin Bieber Stuffs A Bus For Sick Kids In Atlanta Posted: 23 Dec 2010 04:35 AM PST 'I have such a big platform, it would be silly if I didn't do something positive with it,' teen megastar says.
ATLANTA — Justin Bieber is using the power of Bieber Fever to cheer up sick kids this Christmas. The teen sensation wrapped up his current tour on Thursday night (December 23) in his beloved adopted city of Atlanta, and instead of going out with a bang, he decided to go out with a bus — a bus full of toys for kids at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, that is.
Bieber teamed up with local radio station Q100 for "Stuff Bieber's Bus," a campaign that urged concertgoers to drop off toys and games in a tricked-out bus stationed outside the city's Philips Arena. The gifts will then be handed out to ailing children who have to spend Christmas morning resting up in the hospital instead of barreling down the stairs to a tree harboring stacks of presents. The bus, which was only parked in front of the stadium for one day, was one-third full by 3:30 p.m., with a boatload of gifts expected to pour in by the 9 p.m. deadline. Q100 DJ and Bieber buddy Bert Weiss, who helped spearhead the project, said the 16-year-old's storied Web clout instantly pumped up awareness about the initiative. "I've been talking about it on the air for three or four weeks and I've got a trickle of a tweet and an email. Justin tweeted about it yesterday and all of a sudden there were a surge of targets, I got tweets and emails. So the bus is filling up really, really quickly," Weiss told reporters at a press conference in the arena. Since Georgia's Own Credit Union plans to match every donation, Weiss emphasized that "every single child at a children's hospital will have a present now because of Justin Bieber." Bieber was amped to lend his Internet influence to the cause, as he has been chopping it up with the radio personality ever since the Canadian superstar first began to rack up hits online with his smash covers of R&B and pop jams. "I got contacted by their radio station and Bert himself, and he asked us if we wanted to be involved ... and it was just something I thought would be really cool," Bieber told MTV News. As for switching up the typical toy drive by packing a bus full of gifts, Bieber explained that the type of charity you choose isn't as important as actually giving back. "I think that it doesn't really matter what you do," he said. "As long as you're helping other people, why not do it?" In addition to soliciting donations from Atlanta-area Beliebers, the pop megastar also dropped in on some sick children, and recounted meeting a superfan who didn't let her ailment hold her back from showing she's got tons of love for the "Baby" singer. "One girl even had a prosthetic leg and it had my face on it. ... It was so cool to meet her," Bieber smiled. "It was amazing." The star, who largely batted away reporters' questions that weren't related to the bus-stuffing campaign, gave a simple reason for continuing to give back: "I have such a big platform, it would be silly if I didn't do something positive with it." Justin Bieber Calls Selena Gomez 'An Amazing Person' Posted: 23 Dec 2010 04:52 AM PST 'She's really cool,' teen sensation says about his rumored girlfriend.
ATLANTA — As the debate among teen girls rages on about whether Justin Bieber is dating his tourmate, Disney princess Selena Gomez, the megastar teen is confident about one thing: Gomez's awesomeness.
MTV News caught up with the 16-year-old sensation as he got the word out about his holiday toy-collecting campaign, "Stuff Bieber's Bus," in Atlanta on Thursday (December 23), and while he didn't suggest that the two were more than friends, he did gush a little bit about the "Wizards of Waverly Place" actress. "She's really cool," Bieber said. "She's an amazing person." The "Baby" singer also commented about the nonstop fan frenzy and media mania that accompany any rumors about who the Biebs is or is not dating, and said that despite his outsize fame, he plans to keep his private life private. "I think that people are always gonna be interested in my personal life ... but I gotta keep some things to myself," he said of the constant buzz surrounding his relationship with Gomez. "I'm just having fun being a teenager." Speculation that the fresh-faced duo are more than friends has ramped up ever since the two were spotted hanging out and getting pancakes arm-in-arm. However, Gomez has batted away rumors that she and the "Somebody to Love" crooner are anything more than buddies who occasionally enjoy getting a bite to eat. "It was pancakes. Who doesn't like pancakes?" Gomez told MTV News earlier this month. Gomez has also talked about her "brotherly" relationship with Bieber, saying that she tries to keep an eye out for him as he continues to skyrocket toward megastardom. "I love Justin. When he first started to come over from Canada, his manager contacted me and he just said that he would like to meet me and he was just such a good kid," she told MTV News in February. "And I feel like a big sister now, 'cause I want to protect him. So I'm always very cautious with him, but he is so talented and he's so sweet, so that just started us wanting to work together. Now he's just become one of my good friends." What do you think of Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez's relationship? Let us know in the comments! Related Photos Related Artists |
'Jersey Shore' Star DJ Pauly D Working On Spin-Off Posted: 23 Dec 2010 08:46 AM PST MTV pilot was shot in September.
You may be seeing a lot more of "Jersey Shore" star Paul "DJ Pauly D" Delvecchio in 2011. MTV announced Wednesday (December 22) that the network has signed an option deal for a series starring the perfectly coiffed club kid that will look at the Providence, Rhode Island, native's life outside of the Shore. A pilot of the show was shot by 495 Productions, the company behind "Shore," in September. "At the heart of 'Jersey Shore' is the unique and genuine cast and Pauly D truly embodies both qualities," Chris Linn, executive vice president of programming and head of production for MTV, said in a statement. "He's distinguished himself onscreen as the fun-loving, well-coiffed and dependable guy you can't help but want to hang out with. We know viewers are curious about his life away from the shore and we look forward to exploring new possibilities around that." Along with pals Snooki, the Situation and the rest of the "Shore" gang, Pauly has helped turn the show into a cultural phenomenon. The third season of "Shore" will kick off January 6. Though he's the first "Shore" castmember to get a shot at a spin-off series, like his housemates, Pauly D has been keeping busy when not filming the MTV show. He dropped his first single, "Beat Dat Beat," last year and was nominated for the "America's Best DJ" competition for the second year in a row. He's also locked down a DJ residency in Las Vegas and will perform at "Disney's Grad Nite 2011" at Magic Kingdom Park. But first, he'll be on hand on New Year's Eve with the gang to help ring in 2011 on MTV. Don't miss "MTV New Year's Bash," starting at 10:30 p.m. ET on New Year's Eve! Related Videos Related Photos |
Diddy Thanks Fans, Twitter For <i>Last Train To Paris</i>' Top 10 Debut Posted: 23 Dec 2010 09:43 AM PST 'Y'all made this project a success,' he tells Dirty Money supporters.
In his latest video blog, Diddy credits the early success of Diddy-Dirty Money's long-delayed album Last Train to Paris to his fans and Twitter. The project, which had been expected to sell just 65,000 copies in its first week, nabbed the #7 spot on next week's Billboard albums chart with 101,000 copies sold. "Anybody that knows me, it's rare when I'm extra happy, but today ... this last two weeks, I've just been blown away by all the support that I've gotten from you guys," the rapper says in the YouTube clip. "You already know I deal with a lot of hate, and I talk about that. But it's also important to talk about when I'm dealing with a lot of love, and the love that y'all have shown me and the girls on this project ... y'all made this project a success, and I want to say thank you." While Diddy acknowledged the fact that the group didn't score any #1 singles with the project (so far), he revealed that the hits are on the way with "Coming Home" and "Ass on the Floor." The media mogul stressed, however, that he considered Paris to be one of the first albums where Twitter and viral hype trumped radio support. In addition to the Bad Boy CEO's video, the trio gushed about defying early estimates in a statement: "Well, they were wrong. With the help of our fans and the tremendous power of Twitter our debut album skyrocketed to #7 on The Billboard 200 chart scanning more than 100k units. Also this week, our new single, 'Coming Home' broke through to the top ten on iTunes. This is an amazing start for a brand new group and for a debut album. We are so thankful!" Earlier this month, MTV News spoke with Diddy about the LP's many delays. "The wait is over," Diddy said. "We pushed our album back a bunch of times because we felt, to be honest, we weren't ready. I think a lot of times artists make that mistake. They get locked into a date and they're like, 'Well, I told everybody my date was this.' " Did you pick up a copy of Last Train to Paris? Lady Gaga, Alicia Keys, Taylor Swift Top Charitable Celebs List Posted: 23 Dec 2010 01:28 AM PST DoSomething.org announces its 2010 'Celebs Gone Good' roundup.
MTV News already recognized Lady Gaga as being the most important Woman of the Year (and our most fashionable), but we weren't the only ones taking notice: DoSomething.org listed their top 20 most charitable celebrities of 2010, and unsurprisingly, Gaga took the #1 spot. DoSomething helps young people develop causes they care about, and the organization said Gaga represented that spirit this year more than any other artist. From calling for an end to the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy (which was recently repealed) to hosting a "Hands Up for Marriage Equality" event, Gaga focused on helping others. Fellow pop star Alicia Keys was #2 on the "Celebs Gone Good" list. As the founder of Keep a Child Alive, Keys worked harder than ever to provide AIDS treatment worldwide and raised $1.1 million with her Digital Death Campaign, thanks to the help of celebrities such as Gaga, Kim Kardashian, Usher and Justin Timberlake. Coming after Keys on the list was America's newest sweetheart Taylor Swift, who earned her spot by donating $500,000 to relief efforts after Nashville flooded earlier this year, as well as by joining Scholastic's READ NOW program to promote literacy. Rounding out the top five were Ashton Kutcher and his wife, Demi Moore, who launched the DNA Foundation to help stop child sex trafficking and met with world leaders to end slavery worldwide, and Ellen DeGeneres, who teamed up with the Trevor Project to combat bullying and raised more than $150,000 for LGBT people struggling with mental-health issues. Nick Jonas came onto the list at #6 thanks to his becoming the National Chair for "Walk to Cure Diabetes" as well as his portion of the Jonas Brothers' Change for the Children Foundation. Matt Damon placed #7 for his Water.org organization, while Leonardo DiCaprio was #8 for donating $1 million to the tiger-preservation foundation Save Tigers Now. Oprah was #9, and Justin Bieber snuck into 10th place after dedicating a music video to children battling illness worldwide and donating $150,000 to a Buffalo, New York, hospital. He also worked with Pencils of Promise to build schools and increase education opportunities for less-fortunate children, and dedicated $1 of every concert ticket sold to the organization. Shakira, Betty White, Eva Longoria, Sophia Bush, Alyssa Milano, Sandra Bullock, Wyclef Jean, Prince William, Stephen Colbert and AnnaLynne McCord were the other 10 celebrities recognized for their charitable efforts this year. After debuting his recent buzz cut and his own charitable efforts, it looks like "Charlie St. Cloud" star Zac Efron might be making a run to place on next year's list. Who do you think was the most charitable celeb in 2010? Tell us in the comments below! Related Artists |
Paris Hilton Ex Doug Reinhardt Denies Sex Tape Posted: 23 Dec 2010 12:04 AM PST Rep tells TMZ rumored tape 'doesn't exist and never existed.'
With 2010 wrapping up, it appears Paris Hilton will end the year with just a little bit of controversy. Despite swirling online rumors that the socialite and her ex-boyfriend Doug Reinhardt filmed a sex tape, a rep for the former "Hills" star insisted it's just not true. Speaking with TMZ, Reinhardt's rep Amanda Ruisi said, "Doug says a sex tape with Paris and him doesn't exist and never existed." Reinhardt and Hilton began dating in early 2009 and had even contemplated marriage during their six-month relationship. In an interview with People magazine, the blonde bombshell appeared happy with her then-boyfriend. "He makes me feel like I've never felt before," she told the mag. "Everything he does is romantic. He's amazing, and we're really happy. He's beautiful, he's smart, he's well-educated, and he treats me like a princess. We're just very much alike." In June of '09, the couple called it quits. And while the duo reunited for multiple reconciliations, they eventually ended things for good. Rumors later surfaced that Hilton believed the "Hills" star was using her for her celebrity status. The alleged sex tape isn't the only ordeal the 29-year-old heiress has faced in the past year. In July, Hilton was detained in South Africa during the World Cup on suspicion of marijuana possession. Just a month later, the reality-TV starlet was arrested in Las Vegas on charges of cocaine possession. Hilton, who is celebrating the holidays with family in Hawaii, has yet to speak publicly about the rumored sex tape. Related Artists |
Posted: 22 Dec 2010 11:09 PM PST Actor gets a military 'do for 'The Lucky One' and urges film's crew to get in on the haircuts for charity.
Zac Efron already ditched his token shaggy locks for a flipped-up 'do in "Charlie St. Cloud," but now he's made a radical hair change that could rival Watsongate. Efron traded his pretty head of hair for a military buzz cut while he was filming on the set of "The Lucky One," and a fan who snapped a photo with the former Disney star debuted Efron's new look via Twitter. Filming wrapped on "The Lucky One" on Tuesday, but Efron decided he wasn't going to be the only lucky member of the crew to walk away with a shorter haircut. Since everyone is feeling charitable for the holidays, Efron made a deal with the crew of "The Lucky One" last week. For every crewmember who shaved their heads like he did, Efron would donate cash to the local charity Kingsley House. The Louisiana-based organization lists its mission as educating children, strengthening families and building community. Thirty crewmembers took Efron up on his proposal, New Orleans' daily paper the Times-Picayune reported, including two who donated their hair to Locks of Love. The exact amount of money Efron has agreed to donate to Kingsley House hasn't been announced yet, but the Times-Picayune is reporting that it's thousands of dollars. "He likes doing things for charity -- two Make-A-Wish kids made a visit to the set while he was there -- and he felt like he wanted to do something for a New Orleans charity since he had such a nice time shooting there," Efron's publicist Gina Hoffman told the New Orleans newspaper. So for everyone out there hoping Efron's radical hair change was a result of his recent breakup with longtime girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens, your hopes have gone unanswered. When People recently caught up with Hudgens at her birthday party last week, she also confirmed that she and Efron are "good" after their split. |
'Twilight Saga' Star Jackson Rathbone Launching Record Label Posted: 23 Dec 2010 12:51 AM PST Rathbone's label may release the upcoming album from his own band, 100 Monkeys, in addition to other artists' music.
Because filming a blockbuster film, working on a new album and going on tour apparently aren't keeping him busy enough, Jackson Rathbone has decided to set up his own record label, too. In an interview with Zooey magazine, Rathbone revealed that he'll soon be known for the artists he helps develop, as well as for his acting and his own music. The multitasking star best known for portraying of Jasper Hale in "The Twilight Saga" is currently filming "Breaking Dawn" in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and also is working on finishing his next album with his rock group, 100 Monkeys. His fellow bandmates went with him to the movie set so that they could complete the album and kick off a 10-day tour starting after Christmas. 100 Monkeys member Jerad Anderson confirmed to MTV News that Rathbone would indeed be starting a record label, through which he'll release material by other artists. "We might be putting the [100 Monkeys] record out on this label," Anderson reported. "We haven't collectively decided as a band yet." The group also scored "Girlfriend," an indie flick featuring Rathbone and Anderson that made its premiere in September at the Toronto International Film Festival. They haven't received official confirmation whether the movie will play at the 2011 South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, but considering 100 Monkeys will be performing during that festival, Anderson said, "It's very likely." He added, "The movie has momentum coming from a successful debut [in] Toronto. " When the band embarks on their tour after the holiday, MTV cameras will be on the bus documenting the behind the scenes of 100 Monkeys' daily adventures. "Should be interesting..." Anderson said. MTV has already gotten an inside look into the life of the group thanks to some Web diaries that Rathbone recorded. Rathbone also has been hard at work on the set of McG's new Web series, "Aim High." And, of course, filming continues on "Breaking Dawn," as the final two installments of "The Twilight Saga" inch closer to completion. The first official picture from the film hit the Internet in November, and some paparazzi photos have been released of and the Volturi in costume. Jeff Bridges Heaps Praise On 'True Grit' Co-Star Hailee Steinfeld Posted: 23 Dec 2010 09:57 AM PST Bridges calls the 14-year-old actress' performance 'remarkable.'
With the Coen brothers' "True Grit" making its way into theaters this week, all eyes likely will be turning to newcomer Hailee Steinfeld, who plays the film's young leading lady, Mattie Ross. In her first major role, the 14-year-old actress ultimately has to carry the first portion of the movie, and her performance has been garnering some serious buzz during this awards season. When MTV News caught up with Steinfeld's co-star Jeff Bridges while he was promoting "True Grit," he said he was impressed by the intensity of her performance while they were filming on set.
"What a tough, challenging role for a seasoned actor. All that dialogue, kind of tricky way of speaking. Thirteen-year-old girl, never been in a movie, and she comes up with that performance," Bridges gushed. "Isn't that remarkable?" Steinfeld found herself surrounded by a full cast and crew of cinema veterans. The Coen brothers won an Oscar for directing 2008's "No Country for Old Men" and have been nominated two other times, Bridges took home a Best Actor Oscar for his role in last year's "Crazy Heart," and Matt Damon and Josh Brolin both have received Academy Award nods in acting categories in the past. But Bridges said Steinfeld didn't need any acting tips from himself or any of the other castmembers. "I might have slipped out a tip once or twice, and I always regret when I would do that. It's almost like a reflex action — you can't help but put yourself into the other actor's position sometimes," he explained. "I always appreciate a tip from some guy, one of the other players, but no, I let her run free. The brothers directed her beautifully." With all the buzz Steinfeld has been getting for her "True Grit" performance, she now is one of the main actresses being looked at to play another strong female character: Katniss Everdeen in "The Hunger Games." When Steinfeld spoke with MTV recently while promoting "True Grit," she said it "would definitely be an honor" to even be considered for the Katniss role. "I didn't even realize that people were mentioning my name," she said. "It's every actor's dream to be recognized for something that they love to do, and to get recognized for that is pretty amazing. I thank the people out there who think that." Check out everything we've got on "True Grit." For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com. Lindsay Lohan Rehab Center Investigated After Alleged Assault Posted: 23 Dec 2010 07:23 AM PST Public Health officials won't say why they're conducting investigation into Betty Ford Center.
Police aren't the only ones conducting an investigation into Monday's alleged altercation between Lindsay Lohan and a staff member at the Betty Ford Center rehab clinic in Los Angeles. According to The Associated Press, the California Department of Public Health has also launched an investigation at the Ford clinic. Though they wouldn't comment on the nature of the probe or if it were directly related to that apparent scuffle between the "Mean Girls" actress and a Betty Ford staffer, the news comes just a day after the center fired the employee for giving an on-camera interview with gossip website TMZ. Experts believe the interview could violate state and federal medical privacy laws that prohibit medical personnel from discussing the treatment of patients. Lohan is still under investigation for misdemeanor battery in the case. Lohan's mother has also weighed in on the incident, denying reports that her daughter refused to take a breathalyzer test after confronted by now-former Ford staffer Dawn Holland. According to TMZ, Dina Lohan said Holland's claims that Dina was instructing her daughter to decline the breathalyzer during a phone conversation are false. Dina told the site that she was merely speaking to Lindsay in an attempt to comfort her after the alleged face-off with Holland, in which Lindsay claims the chemical-dependency tech "berated and grabbed" her. "I stand behind my daughter 100 percent," Dina Lohan told TMZ. "The whole thing with the woman is a little sketchy." Related Videos Related Photos Related Artists |
Michelle Williams Opens Up About Heath Ledger's Death Posted: 23 Dec 2010 05:41 AM PST Actress tells 'Nightline' she still struggles to 'find meaning' in the death of her 5-year-old daughter's father.
Almost three years after Heath Ledger's death from an accidental drug overdose, former girlfriend Michelle Williams is still trying to make sense of it. "I've found meanings around the circumstance, but the actual event itself still doesn't ... " she told ABC's "Nightline" about her search to come to terms with the death of the father of her 5-year-old daughter, Matilda. "I can't find a meaning for it. I can find meanings in things and people and relationships that have sprung up and friendships that have strengthened. I can find a lot of meaning in that, but not in why." It's the first time the "Blue Valentine" star has spoken about Ledger's passing. Ledger was found dead in his New York apartment on January 22, 2008, at age 28 from what police determined was an accidental overdose of a number of prescription medications. Williams said the year after Ledger's death is kind of a blank for her. "In a strange way, I miss that year, because all those possibilities that existed then are gone," Williams, 30, told the show about the 12 months after Ledger's death. One of the things she turned to in an attempt to cope with her feelings was Joan Didion's 2005 book "The Year of Magical Thinking," the author's account of the period after the death of her husband, John Gregory Dunne. Williams said the lauded, gripping exploration of grief brought her comfort as she sorted through her feelings. "It didn't seem unlikely to me that he could walk through a door or could appear behind a bush," Williams said. "It was a year of very magical thinking, and in some ways I'm sad to be moving further and further away from it. ... I know I got kind of obsessed with that for a while, the before and after. A lot of things died. ... There's a line from a book that gave me so much comfort and it said, 'When you've truly lost everything, then at least you can become rich in loss.' " Williams has been drawing rave reviews for her performance as one half of a disintegrating couple in "Blue Valentine." The film recently won a reprieve from the MPAA, which had originally given the movie a potentially box-office-killing NC-17 rating. Related Photos |
Stephen Dorff Says Filming 'Somewhere' Was 'Pretty Extreme' Posted: 23 Dec 2010 07:30 AM PST 'It's the most naked part you could ever play,' Dorff says of his role in the Sofia Coppola-directed film.
For many moviegoers familiar with his work, Stephen Dorff is most recognized for playing dark, destructive and evil characters à la Deacon Frost in "Blade" — the role for which he took home an MTV Movie Award for Best Villain. His new movie "Somewhere," written and directed by Sofia Coppola, is a complete departure from much of his previous work, a role that required Dorff to step into new territories of both filmmaking and acting.
"This one was pretty extreme because [Coppola] wanted to experience some real-time acting on film," Dorff told MTV News of Coppola, whose unique directorial style involved getting lingering shots of his character just staring off in the distance or literally doing nothing. "So if I smoke a cigarette, that might be one line in the script but in the movie it might be five minutes, so it's very authentic," he added. Dorff said the role of Johnny Marco, a disenchanted movie star and absent father to 11-year-old Cleo (played by Elle Fanning), was the most challenging of his career thus far. "It's the most naked part you could ever play, really, because there's no plot driving the emotion," he said. "There's no explosions, nobody dying to trigger an emotional breakdown, there's no bank robbery. This is a film that's based on almost a portrait of a guy we open with, and we find the monotony in his life. Then when Elle comes into play, Cleo, it becomes really this movie about an adolescent father who needs a change in his life or he's headed for disaster." Dorff described Marco as broken, lost, confused and bored with his life, until his daughter comes along and he starts to realize how spending time with her, actually being a father, makes him happy. "While he's been going through that, he's missed probably three years of crucial time with his daughter and the fog starts to lift throughout the film," he explained. "He starts to see this beautiful girl and starts to get his act together." "Somewhere" began a limited run in theaters on Wednesday. Check out everything we've got on "Somewhere." 'Spider-Man' Musical To Resume With New Safety Measures Posted: 23 Dec 2010 05:31 AM PST Show was dark on Wednesday in the wake of actor's injury.
In the wake of serious injuries during a preview performance, producers of the troubled "Spider-Man" Broadway musical met with officials from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the New York State Department of Labor on Wednesday to put new safety measures in place for the ambitious $65 million production. Reuters reported that following the meetings, new safety procedures were put into place in an attempt to avoid the kind of accident that injured 31-year-old aerialist Christopher Tierney. The performer fell 20 feet after a safety cable malfunctioned during a show on Monday and was hospitalized in serious condition. Among the new rules enacted are a requirement to have a second stagehand and stage manager to back up all of the show's 38 stunts involving harnesses and ropes. "All of these accidents are a result of safety and health systems failures," said Maureen Cox, director of safety and health for the New York State Department of Labor. The performers union Actors Equity Association said the fall that injured Tierney was caused by human error, though it did not specify what that error was. The show's director, Julie Taymor, released a statement Tuesday reiterating the importance of safety on the stage of the show, which has been plagued by a series of missed opening dates and injuries to four performers. "I am so thankful that Chris is going to be all right and is in great spirits," Taymor said. "Nothing is more important than the safety of our Spider-Man family and we'll continue to do everything in our power to protect the cast and crew." Cox said the investigation into what caused Tierney to fall and whether there were any safety codes broken is ongoing. "At this point, we are satisfied that they have put in the appropriate controls," Cox said of the new safety measures. "If they are not comfortable and haven't got everything in place, we have agreed that they wouldn't go, and so apparently that is the position that they are in right now." As of now, "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" preview performances will proceed as planned on Thursday (December 23), and the official Broadway opening date has been pushed back from January 11 to February 7. Wednesday's matinee and evening shows were the only performances canceled due to Tierney's injury. Related Videos |
Keri Hilson Says 'The Way You Love Me Video' Is 'Not Just Sexual' Posted: 23 Dec 2010 03:52 AM PST Keri Hilson Says 'The Way You Love Me Video' Is 'Not Just Sexual'
Keri Hilson gets sexy in her new video for "The Way You Love Me." In the clip, Hilson plays B.B., a gun-slinging woman who sets out to bring her man into custody. The video also stars JoJo, Faith Evans and Diddy-Dirty-Money's Dawn Richard as her band of "bad bitches." The video's sex factor climbs quickly, as Hilson sheds more and more clothes, writhing around while singing all about her loving her man.
But when MTV News spoke to Hilson this week, she shrugged off any controversy but admitted she was a little bit surprised by the reaction she's been getting. "In that record I'm talking about one guy, I'm talking about one night and this is what I want on this one night, and I'm not afraid to say it," she explained. "Not just sexual, I just mean whatever — open your mouth. That's empowering to me. That's what the song is about." For his part, Rick Ross, who's featured on the track, chills in the club, while beautiful people drink and dance the night away. But it's Hilson's scantily clad popping and locking that has everyone buzzing. "The Way You Love Me" is off Hilson's latest release, No Boys Allowed, and she clarified the meaning behind the title, saying that while the boys aren't welcome to her party, real men are. "Yeah, men [are allowed]," Hilson said. "That's the point of the album. I feel like I give so much of the female perspective, and I really wanted to give guys a chance to sound off and give their perspective on certain things, so I had to bring in the men." Deadmau5 Brings Dance Music To The 'Masses,' Wolfgang Gartner Says Posted: 23 Dec 2010 06:53 AM PST 'He has a major role in the younger generation to this music,' producer/DJ tells MTV News of his collaborator.
It's no secret that 2010 was a pivotal year for electronic dance music here in the States. With deadmau5 and Swedish House Mafia becoming household names, the genre's momentum shows no signs of slowing down. Using a conduit of collaboration, artists such as deadmau5 (a.k.a. Joel Zimmerman) have paired up with various underground acts to further the rapid expansion of the genre.
Perhaps one of the most notable movers and shakers of the year is now-Grammy-Award-nominated producer and DJ Wolfgang Gartner, who recently sat down to chat with MTV News about deadmau5 and dance music's rise to the top. "He has a major role in the younger generation to this music," Gartner says, "but there have been certain artists that have been instrumental in helping it cross over and reach the mainstream — which I think is a good thing. I think rap artists using dance beats is a great thing. I think it just brings more people towards this music that we all love." Thanks to several key moments, such as deadmau5 taking the helm as house DJ (well, technically "House Artist") for the 2010 VMAs, dance music has been thrown into the forefront of America's youth, a key demographic for any genre. "Everybody knows who he is now and he's kind of exposing the masses to dance music. These little five-, six- and seven-year-old kids latch on to this 'mau5head' logo — they get into the music and he's bringing this tiny young generation into this music that probably wouldn't be exposed to it." Gartner certainly doesn't mind the exposure either. Unless you were living under a rock for the past six months, you probably heard one of this past summer's hottest anthems, "Animal Rights," a collaborative effort brought forth by deadmau5 and Gartner. "It was interesting because I kind of had a preconceived notion about how he would be to work [with]," said Gartner. "I think our sounds are really similar, so I figured he would work in a similar way to me, but the way that he writes music is actually completely different to me. But he achieves kind of the same sound through a completely different process." Recorded in deadmau5's favorite Los Angeles studio — that would be rocker Tommy Lee's House — "Animal Rights" is a thumping progressive house anthem that melds Wolfgang's unmistakable harmonics and funk riffs with the driving bass line and wobbly synths that make deadmau5 one of the unique forces in the dance music world. "[Deadmau5] writes these rich complex chord progressions and he does it by drawing these little bars on a grid, which is just amazing that you can do that and get that result," Gartner goes on to say. "It just proves you don't have to be able to play keyboards to write amazing music." The two sound pioneers never cease to stop pushing the limits on what they are able to produce. Using drastically difference production approaches, deadmau5 and Gartner had the ability to play off each other's strengths while recording the track. "I'd say the biggest thing is that I play everything in on a keyboard, like even my drums," says Gartner. "I play everything in live and he draws it in with notes on a mouse, which blew me away because his music is very musical." What do you think 2011 will hold for deadmau5 and Gartner?
